Just this old woman's suggestion It looks like the trees were oak if so you may want to sell some for firewood to get some of your money back... Y'all probably have already thought of this however just thought I would mention it... Glad y'all are being safe... 🙏🙏🙏💖💖💖
God helps those who help themselves. Insurance companies don't mind taking your payments - for years without a claim - but they HATE paying out when you make a claim! And they STILL make you pay in higher premiums - even if you've never made a claim. I'm glad you were able to get those trees taken down. That's one less thing to worry about during hurricane season. Stay blessed.
You are so right! Was talking to my husband early this morning about the same thing. It's infuriating. Along with many other infuriating things going on.
@@donnalovintexas8760God helps those who are dependent on him! The phrase God helps those who help themselves is not in the Bible. But I am happy the trees are removed.
A few years ago I had a huge maple tree that stood about 10 ft away from my house. It had to be 100 ft tall. It was beautiful and a great source of shade in the heat of the summer. But everytime there was a storm or a windy day branches would break off of it. Everytime there was a thunderstorm I was afraid of sleeping in the upstairs of the house, thinking the tree might fall. I decided the tree had to go, but around here the cost of cutting a tree that size would have been astronomical. So I called the electric company and since the tree was also close to electric lines and if it fell across the road it would take out the power in the whole neighborhood, so they came and cut it down and ground the stump for FREE! I miss the shade, but so glad it's gone.
Our power company told me they won't take a tree down unless it falls and takes down the wires...which of course happened and our neighborhood lost power for 2 days when that happened less than a week after I called and warned them.
I definitely feel ya! We downed 7 trees back in July. A week before Helene hit, a tornado struck our property. We live in Indiana. Luckily no real damage, but had the trees still been here, we would have had a lot of damage to our house. Prayers for y'all & stay safe!
I hear ya on dangerous trees. The neighbor’s tree split off twice once landing on roof of my bedroom in middle of night. Second time it split off, I begged the neighbor to cut it down. He couldn’t due to $. I finally convinced him to let me pay for its removal. He finally agreed. Best $ I’ve ever spent as “life insurance.” So glad you got yours cut down. Holding my breath on how bad Milton will be. Praying you are spared any effect of it. ❤
The neighbor had no business living there if he could not take proper care of his property. So many people should not be living in a big house with a big yard. The whole neighborhood suffers.
Bless you for not only being proactive but posting which sets an example for others! Preparation is priceless. You can plant trees in strategic places and keep them to a certain height. God bless and keep you safe! 💜🤗🤗💜🤠👩🏽🌾
About 5 months ago I got 2 quotes on having a cedar tree right beside my house taken down. The quotes were $1,100 & $1,250 with the stump ground. I was having it taken down because not only was it right beside the house but the roots were growing into my septic line so the roots had to be ground. But God sent me the company with the 2nd quote because the owner wanted the cedar wood for something he was building. And he took down 6 cedar trees total for that price! I paid the stump grinding company $200 more to grind all those stumps(cheap because he was already there). And the tree company cut limbs that hang near my house from a HUGE bull pine tree right in front of my house. I worry every storm that huge pine tree will come right thru my bedroom but I couldn't afford to have it taken down also. That will be my next big expense.
when I was 11, Hurricane frederick downed 32 trees in our yard. 8 on our house, with three having limbs hanging down into the interior. One came through my brother's window and was laying on his bed. When the direction of wind changed after the eye came over, it shucked it back out. We had wooded property. We sat in the hall feeling walls sway and be sucked. The sounds are with me today as they sucked trying to lift the roof. And we would hear crack, and then trees and limbs fall all night.
I'm glad the trees didn't fall on your house. I live in western NC, but no trees fell on my house. Thank God for both of us. I'm happy you were able to take those trees down. Peace of mind is worth a lot!
We removed all of the trees around our house. It took us about 5 years to get it done. It’s expensive. We had a few walnut trees we cut into lumber. We made a 7’ dining room table with one of the trees
I am glad you and your family are ok. Hi, from SE GA, I was lucky that I cut my trees down a few years ago. I did suffer some roofing and fencing damage from Hurricane Helene. However, my woes are less than others who lost much more to include their lives. At least I was prepped for a nearly 5-day power loss and preservation of refrigerated foods. Well, SHTF scenarios come in all forms these days. After Hurricane Milton blows over, I want to set up my raised beds. Another thing, the mosquitos are terrible right now.
I am glad you took those trees down. I hate to see trees chopped down, but it's better to be safe than sorry. I live in New Hampshire. The storm we had back in April took out 24 trees just around my house. My nephew has been cutting down the trees since that storm hit. One barely missed the house by 8 inches. That was a very old pine tree. If it had hit the house, we would have not only lost the house but also our lives. The storms we are experiencing throughout the US are devastating for that matter throughout the whole world. We can pray and prepare.
Amen Sister, you said it absolutely right. By God's grace and mercy. You made the right decision on having the trees removed, we are told to be good stewards of what God has given us and you ARE being good stewards.
You always seem to find the blessing in everything.Thank you so much for that. And a suggestion for that bare space? Fruit trees! They may not grow as tall, depending, and can still provide a wind break and some shade.
Don't forget to save the wood from the trees for firewood. There will be a time when we all will have NO electricity. Your wood stove will be cooking and heat.
Smart thinking on your part. I'm late to comment speaking of insurance companies...the day you posted this is the same day my husband was in a car accident. A long time ago fell on my house and you're right about the insurance company man I was never so mad at farmers I I want to hurt you now I can laugh about it but at the time it wasn't funny at all I love my trees because they give a shade and it stays cool and in the winter time it was real pretty I don't live there anymore and I miss it I'm thinking about that house of yours what you've gone through with the insurance company you're right they don't pay but they want you to pay y'all say safe love you both God bless you
If you have good insulation in your attic you won’t miss the trees. You can get some medium size shade trees and plant them so they don’t hit the house or wires.
Believe me, I understand. We live half of a mile off of a gravel road. The power co. Came this year and cut most of the trees down. We have cut 6 trees next to the house. Neighbor is using the logs, we will be cutting firewood this winter.
Plant dwarf fruit trees. Dwarf trees don't grow over 8-10 feet, and they stay compact. You can have a pretty grove of trees with other species underneath, like classic food forests have.

Sorry for the need to cut all those trees, but better safe than sorry. I have one huge tree right on the corner of my house,it needs to come down for sure.

Are those trees good for firewood? Will be praying that no hurricane storm rain or winds from Milton touches your farm and the surrounding area. Amen
& if not firewood, the mulch is gardening gold too.
Fire wood for the tops and branches, but the logs were def Timber grade. I just hope they got paid for those logs.
You have to let firewood dry and age for a year or 2
If used for firewood, let it dry out (sit) for 2 years to dry out the moisture in the wood.
