Another perceptive video, Andy. I never was a fan, but there is something undeniably compelling about the combination of Noel's hooks and Liam's snarky caterwauling. That's rock & roll!
That’s why they call the drummer, the battery or engine room. If you don’t have a good drum, your band will probably not last. From personal experience, 35 years+. 🎶
This is good news for a change. Liam and Noel know how to stay relevant and in the public eye that's for sure. There's a great quote from the re-make of the movie A Star is Born where the character Jack states that "music is essentially twelve notes between any octave. Twelve notes and the octave repeats. It's the same story told over and over, forever. All any artist can offer the world is how they see those twelve notes". Liam and Noel offered the world many many wonderful takes on those 12 notes that resonant deeply for a lot of us.
Slade is the band I always felt they were closer to - got the common touch. I remember seeing a teacher leading her school kids, all about 9 or 10 years old, across a zebra crossing back in '95 and they all spontaneously started singing 'Wonderwall'.
I wasnt a fan in the 90s but then did become a fan in the early 2000s ..I actually enjoyed their latter albums a lot,not every song but most. But later on i appreciated them much more. For me ,they have the most songs i can listen to day in day out apart from the Beatles. There are at least 50 songs i enjoy. More than Queen or Zep but im not saying i prefer them to those legends neccassarily. One of the biggest musical reunions and a huge rock event.
I'm not a big fan of Robbie (do love Angels tho!) and certainly not at all keen on Take That, but i have to say Robbie was a brilliant live performer at his peak. That Knebworth gig was showmanship of the highest order! Also really enjoyed his Albert Hall gig where he sang lots of the classic Sinatra and swing songs. Way better than boring Oasis as a live act!

I remember bumping into Noel, on Oxford Rd in Manchester, and he was telling me that he was now in a band and they had just been signed to Creation Records. I asked him what they were called and when he answered “Oasis” I thought it was a crap, unoriginal name and they would never make it. Shows how much I knew. At least I didn’t tell him what I thought.
Thanks for your thoughts about this band. Oasis never moved, even in the days when I was buying lots of music every single week…I liked Blur, Ride, Suede, House of Love, even The Chills, and certainly The Wedding Present, among UK acts in the first few years of the ‘90’s, not to forget My Bloody Valentine
Definitely a band that goes over and under the heads of snobs. You get it or you don't, and it does crack me up how musos get worked up over them being simple. They are the best interview in the business, Noel specifically and Liam can make a lad not feel soft singing along to a love song, which is actually a pretty impressive feat.
If thinking Oasis are crap makes me a snob, I'm very happy to be. I couldn't stand them and Liam's awful whiny voice back then, and being subjected to it again recently with this reunion hype has confirmed to me that I have not changed my opinion one iota over the last 30 years. Probably the most overrated band in the history of British music.

Finally a take on the reunion that actually mentions the other members. If they're set to make a killing, then they could afford to invite them all back and play on the songs they originally played on swapping around the line-up mid show. Probably a logistical nightmare, so it'll just be Noel and the High Flying Birds plus Liam. Tony McCarrol (not Carruthers) got a lot of flack but his drumming on Definitely Maybe was all that was required and suits the songs perfectly. I always felt with Oasis that their drums were always too low in the mix. On some tracks, you can hardly hear them. I've always had a 'take it or leave it' view of Oasis so not overly excited. As you said Andy, a positive could be that people get into music that uses actual instruments again but I'm not getting my hopes up too much.
I think the Queen analogy is spot on with the musical hooks and the easy sing-ability. These feuds, whether family related or not, are all over the place in music. It would be an interesting video to go over some of the more higher profile ones. Hint.
Great overview Andy. Fan since 94, so pleased firstly that Liam & Noel would be brothers once more. Drummer wise; the final drummer (and still Noel's drummer) Chris Sharrock will likely be the drummer, but Alan White was awesome. Maybe we'll see somewhat of a composite with a guest drummer each night, who knows.
I like Oasis, I have from the beginning though they were never my favorite. Definitely a solid band, can't recall any bad tracks. I'd be annoyed if it's just the brothers plus random musicians.
Well I’m here almost despite the prog. I’m a music fan and find you quite amusing. So when you touch on other music it’s always welcome. I happen to have seen both Oasis and PWEI and my relation to Prog is slight. I have one Yes album, the one with Owner Of A Lonely Heart on it….and I’d imagine that doesn’t count and the one Prog track I love is The Four Horsemen by Aphrodite’s Child and apparently you don’t like it ! :)) Anyway Oasis, I’m intrigued to see how it pans out and who’s in the band. If it is the High Flying Bird’s drummer, Chris Sharrock 19:40 wasn’t it?….or was that Beady Eye? ….well he’s no slouch either. Keep up the good work.
"You're the outcast You're the underclass But you don't care Because you're living fast You're the uninvited guest who stays till the end I know you've got a problem that the Devil sends You think they're talking 'bout you, but you don't know who I'll be scraping their lives from the sole of my shoe toniiiiiiiiiiight!" Their first album was really great. After that no. But many people dont realise how good they briefly were
I remember I got a free Sampler CD with one of the music mags (Q?) back in the 90s. I was in my mid 30s and getting a bit jaded with music. Slide Away by Oasis came on and it was one of those rare songs that I liked from the very first moment I heard it. I hope their tour goes well but I can see a clash of egos after a couple of gigs unfortunately.
Really Free in November 1994. Also had Round Here by Counting Crows, The Day I Tried to Live by Soundgarden, Daffodils Lament by The Cranberries, Dead Skin Cells by FSOL, Rocks by Primal Scream, 4st 7lbs by Manic Street Preachers, Daddy's Speeding by Suede, Better Things by Massive Attack, Lady Godiva by Grant Lee Buffalo. Not bad for a free CD
I remember seeing Oasis in a fairly small room within the Brighton Centre in June 1994. It was the night Ireland beat Italy in the World Cup so the band came on stage late because they were watching the game and were in very good spirits. They were excellent, very tight and of course loads of (sweary) attitude from Liam and Noel. The PA wasn't the best and at the end Liam already playing to type early on said "Thanks for coming to see us and ask for your money back....this PA is fookin shite!" 😊. I doubt there were more than 150 people in the crowd and the normal room lights were on (odd!), but it was a great gig nonetheless. I was already aware of the band and had some pre-release single promos as I had done some music writing for the magazine of the college I had recently graduated from as a mature student (North London Poly in Kentish Town). Creation Records was round the corner having moved from Hackney and the PR for them became quite a good friend. Roll on two years and I'm at Knebworth with my same girlfriend who came to Brighton......we both didn't enjoy it at all. The performance came across as a coked-up , self-regarding load of pomp, capped by Jon Squire coming on at the end for an overblown 'Champagne Supernova'. I do remember Ocean Colour Scene being excellent and of course The Prodigy absolutely killed it with the late, great Keith Flint. I'm not anti big gigs, ten years before I watched Van Halen give a masterclass of a live performance at Donington and had already attended some outstanding Reading and Glastonburys in the 80's and early 90's, the Knebworth just didn't do anything for me. On your point of former band members on the upcoming tour, it certainly won't be original drummer Tony Carroll! Most likely is Zak Starkey and I reckon Guigsy and Bonehead because for them it's a "Pay OffThe Mortgage Tour". Personally, I would like to see Gem Archer and Andy Bell as they're far more accomplished and able musicians who played on some of Oasis' finest work 'Dig Out Your Soul' and the much underrated 'Heathen Chemistry'. Can't beat 'Definitely Maybe' for pure nostalgia though........I won't be attending 😊.
As an old-school Metal head, the only Oasis song to really grab me is Acquiesce. Now that has a great riff and hook! There was also an Oasis cover band doing the rounds in Dublin. They were called Ojasis.
All aboard the Noel Gallagher divorce cash grab, where YOU TOO (*not U2) can get to see Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds with Liam on vocals by taking out a small bank loan or emptying your life savings, in the hope it will reignite those warm memories of 1995 even if you didn't live through it! All proceeds go to a worthy cause (Noel is down to his last £20m)
Meh, Rolling Stones did the same , Mick had loads of kids from different women and “divorces” . Huge fan from the first album, saw them 8 times (only 3, 4 max were fantastic ) …don’t feel the need to see them again . I have up even bothering to listen or buy Noel’s solo stuff after his second LP. Never bought or sat down to listen to Liam’s solo stuff. Can’t stand his voice now (Wall of Glass, good god ) won’t even listen to the into of any of his tunes
love the reminiscing and stories, as Mark said, "never let the truth stand in the way of a good story, unless you can't think of anything better." anyway, isn't it interesting that the 'animosity', as it were, between The Beatles, and especially john & Paul, never produced a need to compromise their integrity for $. It was funny though, that they sat together in NYC at Lennon's place, watching SNL and chuckling that maybe they should show up and take them up on their offer to play for the $50K or whatever the 'enormous' sum was. very funny. saying all that I will try and grab a pair of Oasis tickets, if they don't break the bank.
Divorce is expensive, gigging makes money, oasis is the spirit to make your way in life nowadays. I want that, im garn 4 it. 19th july 2025 my 18yr old wants tickets to go and i AM taking her. Biggest tour ever this gonna be
I knew a lot of people who had a music collection that consisted of a ton of rave tapes, Pink Floyd "Wish You Were Here", Bob Marley "Legend" and Oasis "Definitely Maybe" and that was it. Noel and Liam will probably fall out with each other before anything happens but hopefully not.
It's depressing but predictable reading some of these comments. I'm a bit older than you Andy, my teenage years in the 70's. I was never really tribal though in my music tastes, loved rock, prog, soul and later got swept up in punk, how couldn't I being 16 in 77. By the time the 90's rolled around though I'd largely abandoned guitar based music and was listening to a lot of trip hop, dance etc. I remember my younger brother bought Definitely Maybe. Even though I was in my mid 30's it just sounded so exiciting. Yes they were'nt grest musicians but they had that swagger that all the best bands do, I always thought they sounded like souped up T Rex to be honest rather than the Beatles. I got What's The Story and was frankly underwhelmed compared to the first one. Yes it had some huge hits, but seened too polished. The rawness that had made the first one sound so thrilling was gone. Blur eventually went on to do more interesting stuff. It's ironic though that the famous 'battle for no 1 was contested with two of the weakest singles either band had released. Admittedly the feud over recent years has become tiresome but as you say it makes great copy. Noel can come out with some zingers though. He described Liam as "A man with a fork, in a world of soup'. When he heard Keane's singer had gone into rehab, 'What's he addicted to , Port?', and my favourite Jack White, 'Zorro on doughnuts '😂
Mad for it, man. Mad for it. BTW, you can't get a bucket hat for love nor money now anywhere online. Noel looks like a slightly startled Dec from Ant & Dec.
The Who was the first band that had marketed internal conflict. I think they had to take a pause in the band when the internal conflicts were real. More power to them.
According to an article I read in the Guardian, Liam and Noel should end up with about £50 million each. The brothers got an offer they couldn't refuse!
Didn't expect my home town of Stourbridge to get a call out! I saw Oasis at Knebworth for one of their famous concerts but I also saw Genesis at Knebworth in 1992. Genesis are still one of my favourite bands but haven't listened to Oasis on purpose this millennium.
That elephant in the room is the cow that is going to be milked dry, and you have highlighted this. Let's not forget that Oasis were the not the only band to be at the pinnacle of the resurgence of the 90's Britpop era - and there were far better bands in my opinion that didn't get the limelight - especially during the Oasis vs Blur shite!. Also, let us not forget that all this was probably kickstarted by the likes of John Leckie and XTC under the guise of The Dukes Of Stratosphear... that's one discussion Andy that you should be having!😉
I was never into Oasis, as you say, the songs made no sense, there was so much Beatles ripping off and I thought Liam was a twat. Then I watched Noel on Glastonbury a couple of years ago, and I suddenly got it. As you say, he writes songs with great hooks, songs an audience can sing along to on the chorus, and that's why they're loved so much. Personally, all I can hear when the song is over is the hook, I cannot remember anything else of the song and Blur were a much more intelligent band and continues to make very strong albums every time they reconvene (last year bring the prime example), however , I fully get what Oasis are about.
Money a factor, but not the only factor. A bigger one is Noel's divorce. Brothers fall outs in British music is common, and the anger runs deep, the Davies brothers, the Campbell brothers, Knopfler brothers etc etc
I love the Noel interview where he discussed Liam's weight gain. He said "Our big tits came waddling through the gates". Noel is an extremely funny guy IMO.
@@HibeeMcbee Yes, you are right. Although it is difficult to get away from the Oasis reunion at the moment. It was at the top of the Sky news agenda both today and yesterday. But then again, there's not much going on in the world at the moment, just a couple of wars.
Apparently Noel's divorce cost him upwards of £20mil, there's your reason. As for the drummer, White left in 2004. I'm pretty sure it will be Chris Sharrock, who was in the last Oasis line-up and has been playing with Noel since about 2015. As for Bonehead, I think he might at least make an appearence, as he's been playing with Liam and seems to be back to good health after his battle with the big c. But I'm also prettty sure that Gem Archer will be there as well (again, which Noel for years and both brothers always seemed to get on with him well). As for the bass player, I'm not sure. Maybe Andy Bell will return, but we might see someone different on that position.
My favourite Oasis memory was being in Australia when Liam dissed a fan on a flight by refusing to give an autograph. Anyway the guy punched him. The newsreader said “first time a fan hit a sh*t”, and went on to the next story. 😂
To be fair the band always changed throughout their original run. by their 4th album Liam and Noel were the only original members. think they had 4 drummers overall.
Noel's divorce probably is the reason they got back and as for who's gonna be back in the band?I imagine it would be Chris Sharrock who was Oasis last drummer, played with beady eye and HFB and Gem Archer who was their guitarist from the 2000s. The real question is who's coming back as their bass player?
Beady Eye were Oasis without Noel. And 2 of them went on to play in High Flying Birds. I imagine the reformed Oasis will feature those musicians rather than the orginal line-up.
I was also the drummer in Definitely Might Be! I wonder if that was before or after you. I mainly played in Ian's Police tribute band (The Police Force) as Stuart Copeland, but did a few shows with his Oasis tribute too. This would have been 24 years ago.
I also was in the Police tribute band too! This would have been between 2001 and 2004...Jeff the guitarist was also on my Facebook but I think he blocked me after an discussion about politics...
@@richyalexander9206 Tony was booted after the first album and can't really play the White drums parts that came later anyways. But Gallagher itself is an Irish surname (half of Manchester and Liverpool probably have Irish surnames).
Oasis for me and many others a soundtrack to my youth, I was and am a fan but as I've gotten older I realise that they weren't really a great band musically or lyrically, but they captured a mood and woke up a very stale music scene in the early 90s (for that reason alone they are a great band ) and as you quite rightly state, gave a voice to the working classes (of which I am one). I have gone on to love and appreciate better bands than Oasis in the intervening years, but welcome this news and still hold an affection for their music (even if they did turn out utter dross like Little by Little) hope they record some new material as opposed to just doing the greatest hits tour
Going for the new drummer being Animal from the Muppets...... Mad for it! It will be interesting to see who the rest of the band members will be...... And more interesting if there will be new material..... Interesting times...
Not my cup of tea but for fans this must be a godsend. I will say, though, being a working class man I don't like to be told they represent me they don't and never have For me it's the music and of its posh knows or working class I don't care.
They deffo have some kind of street appeal which a whole bunch of others somehow don't have ... I always thought they had the odd catchy tune ... 2 years ago I had to catch a train from Carlisle to Newcastle on a Saturday at 7pm ... Everyone in my carriage ( except me ) was piss blind mortal drunk so inevitable "sing-songs" ensued . 80% of the featured tunes were Oasis hits and the rat arsed choir knew all of the words to each and every one of them . Popular songs by other artists would usually falter by the 2nd verse . This scenario persisted all the way to Newcastle . This is how I realised how big they actually are .
I love em in spite of my musical elitist friends opinions. A lot of people just disregard them because they were popular. Me, I like their tunes. Not a bad album from them.
Oasis, Pulp and Cast were working class bands. Oasis were a great rock band, not original but like Quo, they had great songs. Their post Morning Glory albums are better than many realise and Beady Eye were pretty cool too.
Ned’s Atomic Dustbin! Absolute legends in skateboarding due to “Grey Cell Green” providing the soundtrack to Rick Howard’s section in the seminal Plan B video Questionable.

Hilarious story at the end, you got 100s of those? That's plenty of content go for it!
Oasisbros, we're so back that we went there and came back again. twice.
"You're the outcast
You're the underclass
But you don't care
Because you're living fast
You're the uninvited guest who stays till the end
I know you've got a problem that the Devil sends
You think they're talking 'bout you, but you don't know who
I'll be scraping their lives from the sole of my shoe toniiiiiiiiiiight!"
Their first album was really great.
"N O T televised"?
It'll be BootLegged
ALL over the 'net!
Thunderbirds are GO!!!
Holy shit that's funny! Live action remake of Thunderbirds. This was national news this morning in Canada. sigh
@theasphaltworld849 said the same. You put it much better mate 👍
@gavintuesday4959 are you agreeing or is it the reason the stones and jagger are still touring is because of alamone
love the reminiscing and stories, as Mark said, "never let the truth stand in the way of a good story, unless you can't think of anything better." anyway, isn't it interesting that the 'animosity', as it were, between The Beatles, and especially john & Paul, never produced a need to compromise their integrity for $.
Liam and Noel = Kain and Abel, but drama is good for the bizniz.
Divorce is expensive, gigging makes money, oasis is the spirit to make your way in life nowadays. I want that, im garn 4 it. 19th july 2025 my 18yr old wants tickets to go and i AM taking her. Biggest tour ever this gonna be
Live action remake of Thunderbirds!!!! Love it.
The appeal is in the sentimentality of the melodies; and I mean that in a good way.
Funny coincidence hearing you mention the Poppies. I'd just played my girlfriend, who'd never even heard of them before, Defcon 1 on a road trip.
It’s really very simple. Tunes. People like tunes.
I feel a 'Top Ten Band Re-unions' coming on, headed by Van Der Graaf Generator in 2005 and Magazine in 2009 and Soft Cell in 2000.
The kinks too
Followed by Fleetwood Mac and their MOR divorce rock.
According to an article I read in the Guardian, Liam and Noel should end up with about £50 million each. The brothers got an offer they couldn't refuse!
East Meon was very happy last year - if you know you know
Oasis - bruh! Only way to get me bye tickets is Andy in drums
What a year. First Soul Coughing now this.
Didn't expect my home town of Stourbridge to get a call out! I saw Oasis at Knebworth for one of their famous concerts but I also saw Genesis at Knebworth in 1992. Genesis are still one of my favourite bands but haven't listened to Oasis on purpose this millennium.
Epitome of rock n roll stars
Great story
What a great Union Jack story 🙂
I love the Noel interview where he discussed Liam's weight gain. He said "Our big tits came waddling through the gates". Noel is an extremely funny guy IMO.
No Bonehead & Guigsy = Noasis.
I think that Bonehead will be in the band according to what was reported earlier today in The Sun newspaper.
Oasis reunion. My thoughts... I wonder what I'll have for dinner tonight?
Yet here you are.
@@HibeeMcbee So every opinion has to be "i cant wait" then?
@@HibeeMcbee Yes, you are right. Although it is difficult to get away from the Oasis reunion at the moment. It was at the top of the Sky news agenda both today and yesterday. But then again, there's not much going on in the world at the moment, just a couple of wars.
@@davehoward22 Nah. It's just interesting. Commenting on something that supposedly isn't interesting
sounds like something a Coldplay fan would say
Andy on the phone to his former cover bandmates "Oasis is back on the menu boys!"
He's worth $70 million. I don't think he needs to do it for the $$, even if he did just lose $20 mill.
I loved Sandkings and Wonder Stuff.
Noel did T-Rex stuff too.Slade he covered loads.
Everybody knows IQ or RAIN are the most important bands in the last 40 years, Andy!
I can't believe Andy doesn't know those bands! 🤔
Wait a minute.....I DON'T KNOW THOSE BANDS! 🤪
My favourite Oasis memory was being in Australia when Liam dissed a fan on a flight by refusing to give an autograph. Anyway the guy punched him. The newsreader said “first time a fan hit a sh*t”, and went on to the next story. 😂
Epic 😂
To be fair the band always changed throughout their original run. by their 4th album Liam and Noel were the only original members. think they had 4 drummers overall.
It made the 5pm news in Australia, East coast, 5 hours ago.
I'd only go to a concert if they promised to have a fight on stage, that would be interesting ;-)
This did happen when I went to see Ian Brown. You never know.
Paul Weller as guest performer and a fight erupts with Liam? Lol..
There would be no Oasis without The Real People, whom I prefer.
Tony McCarroll's the original drummer. Good Irish name like the Gallaghers. Think he won't be back. Burnt his bridges with Noel.
"F**ing in the Bushes" is quite good, because it's ripping off Zeppelin, "Cigarettes and Alcohol" too, however, that's T. Rex. But ........ Dad Rock.
That's funny! You were probably my replacement then 🤣🤣
Have you had a controversial conversation about politics? You of all people? 🤣
Sounds like I was your replacement. I got the gig through Alex Thomas...
He had it before me, and then I think he went off to Bolt Thrower.
He then sat in for a bit again after me so that sounds about right.
Oasis' original drummer was Tony McCarroll, a good working class Irish name🤣🤣🤣
Anthony McCarroll. Carroll and McCarroll are common Irish names
That would explain the planned shows in Ireland in '25
@@richyalexander9206 Tony was booted after the first album and can't really play the White drums parts that came later anyways.
I will say, though, being a working class man I don't like to be told they represent me they don't and never have
For me it's the music and of its posh knows or working class I don't care.
Must have been a challenging gig that, Andy. Oasis employed some very tricky polyrhythms in their early material, very obscure jazz time signatures.
They need the money apparently, good luck to them.
Primal Scream were the best UK rock and roll band of this era.
Idlewild!
They were great during that "Vanishing point", "XTRMNTR" period. Never liked them prior to or after that; "Evil Heat" was very disappointing over all.
@@MisAnnThorpe that was their peak for sure.
If the tickets were £40 and they weren't playing massive areas I wouldn't mind going to see them.
Ned’s Atomic Dustbin! Absolute legends in skateboarding due to “Grey Cell Green” providing the soundtrack to Rick Howard’s section in the seminal Plan B video Questionable.
Shall I get my mate Jonn Penney on then?
@@AndyEdwardsDrummer That would be cool. I remember liking them back in the day.,I really liked the way they used two bass players.
