Good grief! In an hour, Andy's spoken more words than i have in 55 years. Im exhausted.
He’s like my wife, she never stops, but hey, it’s entertaining.
😂😂😂
Andy you're becoming my favourite grumpy old man.
Very Rick Wakeman
Good point
I think Andy should make a video in which he plays a character called Rick Wokeman.
Is this something you could do for us @AndyEdwardsDrummer ?
We know why Rankin' Andy rocks in that chair now. He should've called this one 'Rockin' with the Chalfonts'
I wouldn't use the word old for him, I'm older than him. He's hilarious!👍😂😂😂
Existential Dread - Sartre's long-deleted reggae album
LOLOLOL!!!! good one!
@davehall8584 Too kind! Send money.
Gold
@SrinjayBanerjee cardboard!
No no no it's a west coast U.S. reggae band that does Cure, Joy Division etc songs.
Andy Edwards - International Crank of Mystery.
The demand for racism far outweighs the supply of racism.
It's wild to hear you say art is the cure to an existential crisis. I've often claimed that art is what stops me from being an existential nihilist
Andy, once again, I belive you've outdone yourself. This has got to be one of the most important (and enjoyable) videos in all of the YT's existence. So many important topics and points that really require a lot of attention and understanding. Although it was all very funny and crazy, some of the points here were so important and so well communicated that I just thought I had to tell you!! Excellent!! Loved it all the way through.
I love your rants and I agree with everything. Orwell's 1984 was supposed to be a warning, not an instruction manual ... In solidarity with the fighters for peace, love, justice & truth we express our feelings with music on our channel. Greetings from Germany, CLUB OF THE UNCENSORED POETS
Whenever I’m feeling low, I dial up your videos and leave the planet for a few minutes.
This is the best video I’ve watched this year. Perhaps even - best video I’ve watched in a year.
Totally agree!👍 I laugh and really enjoy Andy's views, I feel the same way he does 95-99%!😂😂
Your take on managers/politicians is very accurate, especially in the UK!
The Crooked House was a great pub, getting the marble to roll up the window sill was bizarre.
There was a Carnegie library just down the road from me which was protected by a covenant. The council hated the cost of having to staff that library. And then it mysteriously burned down, just like those buildings in Andy's town. What a coincidence.
Can't we just have Xmas every four years? Like the Olympics or the World Cup
I would vote for that
The other 3 can be upgrade years!
Christmas exists for the capitalist retail market to profit.
I heard somebody say that years ago, it would certainly make it more special,
but all the religious people would never go for it,
they'd probably say something like, you wouldn't want one birthday every 4 years would you,
then don't expect Jesus to have that!!
This concept definitely needs to be expanded on , how about a four mini Christmas November where the Horrible and Unwanted can be weeded out?
I thought it would be impossible to beat the biscuits and crisps rants. I was wrong! Brilliant.
Andy, top 10 British Football moments. Love your channel!
You can easily make some nice art out of those:
You organise a live YT session on Christmas Eve with your friends musicians. You all put on some terrible wigs. You decorate the space in red like that scene from "The Rise of Skywalker". You all play standing because you call yourselves "The Chalfonts". You invite a small audience of local politicians you especially don't like or the ones you suspect have chalfonts. And you improvise for them (and us) a prog saga called "The Ten Worst Things", in six parts:
I. Modern Architecture
II. Spiders
III. Nazis
IV. Existential Dread
V. Woke People
VI. Spiders (Reprise)
Brilliant!
This has to happen!
Great Video, I love your rants because we all feel the same.
I despise Christmas. It should be like The World Cup; celebrated once every four years.
Totally agree.
Couldn't agree more 😊
The sound quality of your videos is brilliant. I could hear you wandering about behind me.
My greatest regret is not doing more for my parents when they were alive. That bothers me more than Nazis or "woke" people.
You need to do your own list. I don't think t will be as funny as mine though
@@masudashizue777
You are far from being the only one who feels that, so don't worry mate.
@AndyEdwardsDrummer I had my own Room 101 list once.
Imagine if your parents had been woke Nazis
Nazis and the woke are much closer in their beliefs than they would like to think. Take a woke person and swap everytime they say white supremacy with Jewish supremacy and they sound pretty similar
100 percent agree on the architecture degradation !
I agree Andy. Let's all please pray for peace.
You're worth my subscription fee.
Laughed for an hour. Thanks Andy.
I forgot to tell you something. When I lived in Pennsylvania, I lived close to Falling Waters ..Such a beautiful place to see..An architectural marvel for sure..
You've outdone yourself yet again, Andy. Thanks for the laughs!
One of the best endings to any video. Ever
One of the best things ever is RUclips.
It's also one of the worst.
I just said that to family just last night!!! Xmas every two years.
Love you videos, I'm here for the arty creative ones and now I'm hooked, I don't even like prog rock 😆 love your humour, thanks ❤
Modern architecture is not ugly, developers thinks they can get away with cheap and ugly buildings by calling them modern. If they put thought and quality into the building (i.e. expensive) modern architecture can be very beautiful.
No, the expensive stuff is shit too, because it's always in the service of a "concept" or ideology (i.e. academic fashion), rather than being useable and relatable on a human level.
@ThreadBomb 'Always" begs to be unpicked by someone.
@@ThreadBomb Nope, Harpa in Reykjavik is stunning as is the Opera in Oslo, for example.
Just so you know, I grew up in a brownstone in Brooklyn that was built in 1820. There are parts of America, where we do indeed take care of our old buildings. No, they aren’t as old as the buildings in Europe, but some of them are quite old.
It's thumbnails like this that make me love this channel.
Blooming marvelous! Made me smile and laugh out loud. Thank you for making a grey cold day, marching rapidly toward Christmas, just a little bit more tolerable. Time to start a comedy club tour going! 🤣
Great list...I applauded your #1!
My list would include boy bands, indestructable plastic packaging, tattoos and dogs that bark at everything. ✌️
I agree, especially with the plastic packaging. Those bubble packs need to be replaced with small cardboard boxes.
Most tattoos are ugly, especially neck and face tattoos. They are permanent and only fade to an even worse splodge. At one time women didn't have them other than fishwives and the men who had them done when young regretted them years later. They leave scarring when removed. In years to come the trend will end and people with them will regret them. Nobody is obsessed with the same things all their life so why display your obsessions on your skin instead if a badge or t-shirt as people used to. Band related tattoos especially are horrible. Such as lyrics, symbols, the name of the band and even worse the faces of band members.
I’m with you on spiders. When I was a kid, had several traumatic experiences with very large spiders. They’ve freaked me out ever since
what a Ranker you are, Andy
Yeah, I’ve thought that for years, parliament like jury duty. Enjoyed this immensely, on nightshift, you gave me a smile. Thanks 🙏🏽
My pleasure!
I would rather Royal Duty until we can get rid of them. Members of the public would be selected at random from the electoral register to hang out with them at Royal funerals and weddings and at Balmoral and Sandringham. It would be funny if some of those were republicans.
Imagine Robert Smith of the Cure being selected to spend a few days at Balmoral in August so he turns up with his shaggy hair and deliberately badly applied make-up. Then he is briefed on Royal protocol and is told that in the Royal Family they never explain and never complain. The Cure's lyrics are all about explaining and complaining.
Roaches. Spiders are your friend. And spiders can't scale that large.
Oh yes, arachnids are misunderstood. They'll only bite you if you're hassling them. It's a bit unsettling seeing a big one skurrying across the floor and fearing it'll crawl over your face in the dark while you sleep though..eek!
@@PaIaeoCIive1684 Leave them alone and they leave you alone. A roach is more likely to crawl on your face, I think.

Spiders are wonderful creatures.
Crowd are on another level of wonderful and amazing.
@@thepagecollective You're correct. The spiders in your house likely to bother you are travelling around the place in search of other domestic invertebrates to devour, often other spiders. The cockroaches are scavengers in search of any organic matter and moisture so they'll be attracted by your body odours, sweat and other secretions. In the absence of anything better they'll be on your face to dine. In a Morocco hotel once, I had to stay awake with the light on as the things emerged in the dark to crawl on me. Ewww!

This is excellent! Rick Beato just had Rick Wakeman on which was very good; but us Brit’s know that Beato is the Des O’Connor of music interviewers! Give me The Edward’s cell of misery any day of the week!
Posting later because I actually loved this installment and I had a feeling we hadn't seen the full extent of Andy versus Boris the Spider yet. Personally, I've been bitten by a few evil arachnids in the past, but I tend to leave the "innocent" looking ones alone because they're natural carnivores that consume other nasty bugs.
Also, the architecture rant made me think. I live in an area with many Frank Lloyd Wright homes, including his actual home in Wisconsin. These structures are aesthetically inspiring and built to last. The Post-Modern period followed with its sleek and sterile look and it was all downhill from there.
Hooray a worst things video
the "most worst" no less.
Interesting list.
Spiders remind me of robots.
Learned today that the turkey is native to the American continent. I know I've learned that before. No one calls it Guinea fowl anymore?
The bird within a bird within other animals has been depicted by both Picasso and Dali.
I’d wondered about John Paul Jones’ hair in “Song Remains The Same”. David Sylvian also had a pageboy haircut circa 2004.
I like spiders - they destroy cockroaches and flies, which are more terrible 🙂 creatures. In Latvia, a spider brings happiness to the house.

I love your content my friend
There's a fundamental flaw in this list. To wit, where's bloody EastEnders? An unremitting slab of misery foisted on us four times every sodding week. Characters stumbling around in the dark, women continually bawling their eyes out, and diamond geezer types whispering in hoarse, raspy Oliver Reed voices: "Whassgahinon?" or "gotta go," at one another. It's the very embodiment of the worst thing ever.
*and breathe*
I wasn't expecting the ASMR at the end. You can really do it all! Now back to my existential dread.
I refuse to hear anything negative said about Frank Lloyd Wright's art deco architecture.
I love Art Deco but I think Andy did give that a pass; it’s more the brutalist stuff and the modern cheap crappy blocks of flats that are the worst. That said, there is a housing crisis, as there was after WW2, I don’t know where he thinks everyone should live while they build these mansions with gargoyles 😂
Most concise analysis of disney SW on RUclips. Perfect.
So called modern boxes replaced urban slums, plagued with rising damp, families sharing a single room with no central heating or indoor toilets. Talk of filigree, rococo architectural embellishments is way off the mark. The problem with post 60's social housing in the UK was that it was poorly maintained by cost cutting local authorities, with a lack of security. I lived in a high rise that was plagued by crime and vandalism in the 80's. The simple addition of a 24 hour concierge changed everything. It's in central London so privately owned two bed flats there now go for close to a million.
That way of living isn't for everyone, but as a young broke musician starting out it was just what I needed at the time. The views were spectacular.
Lighten up, you are bringing us all down!
I agree. It is not great though if profiteering developers and cheese paring local authorities stick flammable cladding on the exterior of the block. Waiting for folk to go to prison for what happened to a recent block. Being the UK I think it will be a long wait.
That's right. They were an improvement on what was there before but the walls were too thin so residents complained that they could hear neighbours flushing their toilets and their TV sets in even if on a normal volume. Then they weren't maintained properly. The old council houses built in the 1930s were built better.
Some of these tower blocks now have remote concierges in a council office building who are alerted over the phone when someone presses the traders' button on the door entry system to gain entry to the building.
All blocks of flats need door entry systems so people can't walk into the building at any time and have to press on a button which is linked to a buzzer in a flat. The resident picks up the intercom to speak to a visitor when the buzzer goes.

I don’t like having to listen to the worst music of all time whenever I go into a supermarket. I don’t like tacky ‘Christmas markets’ taking over my town for two goddam months, selling nothing but imported cheap tat made in sweatshops by slave labour. Speaking of which, the food stall workers all look like they’ve been trafficked. No, I don’t like ‘Christmas jumpers’, again very wasteful, we shouldn’t be buying something to wear one day of the year, especially for children who literally won’t wear it again. No, I don’t like going out for a meal and nowhere is serving anything but some lame version of a Christmas dinner from the middle of November. No, I don’t like every single advert on children’s television pushing some godawful lump of plastic that they will never play with again. Every single year. Brilliant. Spot on about Nazis and woke. Recently, I was a member of a Paul Simon music discussion group on Facebook. The American woman who ran it suddenly declared that if any Nazis were members of the group, they must leave immediately. Of course, this was the day after Trump won the election.
I asked jokingly if she was having a woke meltdown and was immediately blocked from the group. 😂
My mother was born in 1924 in Russia, at the age of 18 in 1942 the Nazis came and forcibly took her back to Germany where she was to do slave labor, she was raped, beaten, starved and mentally abused. My father then a Captain( eventually a Colonel) in the US Army who served with Patton and helped liberate the concentration camps met my mother after Germany was defeated as she was freed and was walking aimlessly with nowhere to go, He put her on a truck with other DP's displaced persons and was taken and processed. My oldest brother was born in 1946 in Germany....... Yeah those fucking Nazi's are hilarious.
Yes, there's a total moral equivalence between the Nazis who who caused a cataclysmic world war, exterminated millions, and enslaved millions more and some annoying wokist pricks who think women should be able to go to work without being molested and that we should make an effort not to use racist language because it offends minorities. As far as I see it, it's simply an acknowledgment of the injustices and exploitation of people, and historically that has happened to some demographics more than others.
That does ripple through generations and impacts those same demographics now. In the same way that the best way to get rich is to be born into a rich family. That does not mean that all white people are directly responsible for past injustices, but we do benefit from it.

What you’re describing is diluted “capitalism”. Big business colluding with centralized governments to regulate small businesses out of existence is NOT free-market capitalism. Free-market capitalism, to the extent that it once existed, is the thing that made the US an economic powerhouse, and helped raise the standard of living for everyone. Even the poor were better off than the poor elsewhere.

I hear you on the architecture thing. Here in Boston, MA, so many generic box apartments/condos are going up everywhere. Lots of ridiculous looking steel/glass skyscrapers are being built up too. The city had a fairly modest and historic look just a couple of decades ago. It’s just becoming another over built up city. I was in London and the UK several years ago. I’m afraid to visit now because I will be confronted with all the American styled modern architectural nonsense. I guess I am overly romantic. I love older buildings, country pubs, small villages, etc. I guess it’s just time I am just shuffled off.
This thumbnail has me hovering over the 'unsubscribe' button, but I will give the benefit of the doubt.
I wonder if it will be the usual fixation on ‘identity ideology’ whilst simultaneously and subtly (sic) promoting yet another identity ideology as an alternative? Proving to a degree that identity ideology as a thing, regardless of its political compass is problematic. It’s common for people rail against something that subconsciously they recognise in themselves but haven’t yet consciously come to terms with. It’s a human trait that I would call sub-cognitive dissonance. Recognising that is an important step in liberating your thoughts. I’m still working on it and it’s not easy.
Yes, you have got it in one. Identity ideology is a very specific set of beliefs rooted in the cultural Marxism of the critical theorists. the concept of subjective truth of the phenomenologists and the social constructionism of the post modernists. These ideas have had a huge influence on and and music. And I am critiquing those philosophies in the hope it will free creative people to express themselves fully. I am not denying the idea if identity, or am I aware of another identity ideology I am promoting. It would be easier to describe the identity ideology I am signed up to? Drummer? RUclipsr? of course these are identities, but they are not arbitarily assigned essential moral traits are they? These videos are comedy videos but I have a serious reason for doing them, and it is in the name of free expression.
@@AndyEdwardsDrummer I think ‘cultural Marxism’ is merely a memetic portmanteau which has been reified over the last 20 years. I can’t find anything closely resembling it in his writings apart from reaching abstractions. Happy for them to be pointed out.
So identify ideology in my view is absent of a political driver at its core but attaches to an ideology whether that be left, right, religious. It’s covered Le Bon’s theory crowd quite well.
One of the most pernicious forms of identity is one imposed on someone or a group of people from the outside. This can be done with positive or negative intent but the results are generally negative.
The Frankfurt School were the philosophers that applied Marxism to culture. Marx was not a cultural Marxist of course. The identity groups he arranged privilege on were class. Marcuse is possibly a good place to start for this. My definition of prejudice is quite simple, assigning an individual with traits you have assigned to their identity group, and acting on this. This is what identity politics does all the time.
@ I think the Frankfurt School notion is widely considered to be antisemitic conspiracy theory. Identity politics exist but its origins are far more prosaic and to me, more insidious in nature.
The problems we see today with attachment to identity were largely born out of the 60s counter culture. It wasn’t the fault of that cultural movement (after all it was beautiful thing in art and music) though many in that movement went on to embrace identity ideology.
How what happened is clear & you can see it in the explosion of individual expression (which was amazing). Think Beatles in ‘64 then look at them in ‘67 just in their dress code alone. Look at pictures of large groups of people in the early 60s all with same hair cuts regardless of age and compare that to the late 70s…
So what happened?
1. Popularisation through capitalism which saw the power of individual expression and monetised it, selling it back to masses through diversification of cyclical consumption habits which ‘supported’ individual identity. Look at what happened to Bobby Seal or Jerry Rubin both completely inculcated by it.
2. Humans being social mammals and susceptible to memetic behaviours formed social groups based on consumption adaptations, the sexual proclivity and liberation etc. The diversity of those groups got more complex with successive subdivisions largely driven by point 1.
3. Early neoconservatives thinkers such as Leo Strauss saw the move from the relative stability of nationalism (which is deeply flawed in my opinion) to liberalism as a threat to societal stability. Strauss literally reinvented the theory of the threat from outside (another race, religion or ideology) creating nightmarish visions (largely fictional) and introducing them to society as way of stabilising what he saw as the deterioration and nihilism of liberalism. This was difficult to do in ‘peace’ time but he built on the precepts of McCarthyite paranoia which lead to PNAC and all of the wars in the Middle East. This became the basis for a new right wing identity ideology, which loosely bands together people have largely been abandoned by the social outcomes built into modern capitalistic outcomes (which are quite Malthusian in nature.
Any way I could go on and on, and you’re probably asleep by now (I don’t blame you!😂). Love your channel Andy (sincerely do!) And I look forward to your take on things.
We love Andy ❤
Calling out “Nazis”, as so many do, is myopic and utterly wrong. They are simply a sub-set of a larger group of Authoritarians, many of whom people don’t seem to be able to recognize, let alone call out.
Almost everyone these days pointing out people whom they disagree with as so-called Nazis are indistinguishable, in practice, from Nazis. At least where it counts most.
If you’re putting individuals into categories, and judging them by that criteria alone, and finding them “lesser” than you, and using language that dehumanizes them, then you’re a Nazi by any other name.
Espousing communism, as many of them do, with its flowery language that somehow promises a utopia of true equality, changes nothing. It’s an evil mindset that leads to evil actions, and horrifying outcomes.
Ok, so the takeaway is that chalfonts are more tolerable than politicians. Sounds about right.
Dogs and their loving owners .
I heard about that fire. I went there a few times. Nice local beer. Can't remember what it was called now. There are some great modern buildings.
Modern architecture: I studied Physics at Leeds University in the early 80s... The Physics/Astronomy department was (still is) in a relatively new building at the time... Called The 'Stoner Building' (Named after Physicist E.C. Stoner) built late 60s, maybe early 70s.
I remember it came across as very modern at the time... I think it's now a listed building.
Fast forward to a visit I made in 2022 - With 2020s hindsight it's a dystopian nightmare, the thing looks like something from an Orwell novel... would look right at home in 'Clockwork Orange'...
I didn't understand the world nor politics 'till Andy was blowing air into that drum
That was the best laugh I've had in way too long! It started on the Christmas rant and culminated waking my wife up at the other end of the house when the finger went into the air...."I'm not gonna explain what the investigation involves..." 😂😂😂
Ace rant! ... you are a man after my own heart ... subscribed to your channel!
Christmas was a disappointment when I was a kid too. Later as a single Mum I over compensated so My kid had everything possible. She still loves Christmas but I reckon she should get over it she is over 40. Now my christmas decoration at my desk is a bah humbug bauble so folk know to avoid me. I could not work in retail as it would worsen my homicidal thoughts about Noddy Holder and Roy Wood.
I dread it.
For what it's worth, I'm seeing Andy Scott and The Sweet on Thursday evening in Sydney.
Brilliant material, Andy-
