- Since the 2016 model year, every Tundra equipped with the 5.7liter V8 engine has also included an integrated trailer brake system as standard equipment. This system allows the customer to sync electric brakes on a trailer with the Tundra’s brake system. By sharing the braking signal with the trailer, the Tundra is not only able to tow greater weight, but can do so more securely.
This video describes the system functionality and how to use the Integrated Trailer Brake Controller.

I love my Tundra!
We love that you're loving every mile, Rob! What's your favorite feature on the #Tundra so far?
So I took my Tundra to the Travel Trailer dealer to complain about the breaks. They told me that Tundra has a progressive braking system that also depends on the speed of the truck. They also told me to apply the brakes faster. After applying the brakes faster pedal velocity wise at 20mph it seemd that the brakes started to work better. This is a new trailer I'll add so I think the brakes on the trailer were not adjusting. After hitting the pedal faster the trailer brakes began to react more. In fact I lowered my gain to 5 from 10, and the brakes seem to be working fine qith normal braking. I have some other test to run stay tuned. The dealer said the Ford and GM brakes are programmed differently and can easily lock up the brakes. Good luck.
Any update. Not impressed with my 16 brake controller abilities.
Thank You Almighty God I will buy one for myself
2021 tundra here. I set my gain to max and notice no difference in braking with my travel trailer
Bought a 2016 for this feature and it didn’t work. Apparently lots of people have issues with the factory system. My buddy’s 2017 didn’t work either. Had to go aftermarket on both trucks.
Yep,,my 2016 brake controller only puts out flickering 3-4 volts at the 7 pin.
But Toyota says no problem .
Buts its all over the Internet.
Tundra strong💪
🙌
Nice video! Thank you!
I traded my 2015 Tundra, after market brake controller, for a 2021 TRD Tundra. The 2021 has the factory controller. What is the best way to set it up?
I’m doing research to make my 08 to have this trailer break
Curious, what you found out? as I have that model as well.
I keep looking with no answer yet, towing my trailer down hill, ok if I am in tow haul mode then what? I don't want to burn up my breaks so what do I do? 2016 Trundra 5.7L SR5???????
You apply trailer brakes using the brake controller at the same time as your braking.
You can put it in shift mode, then drop down to first gear slowly
@@HackMasterBlaster You can, but if you are adjusted properly then simply applying your truck brakes should be enough. Kyle nailed it with shifting down. My brakes truly are used only to come to a complete stop.
Signed a professional driver.
it really is a goddamn shame that many 2016+ tundra owners had to get an aftermarket brake controller system to bypass yours because it sucks that bad.
mine failed
2018+ can't even wire in a new one, so they're limited to wireless
Yep,,,I went and bought new self adjusting brakes. I've tightened them up so tight you'd think I'd be locking them at a gain of 4,,,but nope. Feels like they hardly work at 10.
I'll be going aftermarket soon.
Toyota brags my tundra can haul 10 K,,,it might but I wouldn't count on it stopping 10 K.
Toyota can put skirt come down when you open a door
Just purchased a 2019 Toyota tundra, when connected to the RV it gives me an error message trailer disconnected /brakes/… can someone please shed some light on this.. I’m a 66yr old single female retired, learning as I go.. 🧐
Hello Lenora, we regret to learn of the condition you are experiencing with your 2019 Tundra. We recommend taking your vehicle to your local Toyota dealership for a proper diagnosis. Please visit Toyota.com/dealers to locate the dealership nearest you. ^CB
@@toyotausa thank you for the quick response.. I spoke to the dealership and the technician said he’s never heard of such. I will keep searching
time enough for Toyota tundra come with their long outstanding v8 diesel engine from Cummins not a 5.0 as previously mentioned but a 5.7 v8/7.5v8 diesel or a i6 7.5/7.0 all Cummins engines.
What for?
I grew up on a Ranch and we hauled everything under the Sun with straight six and later a mind blowing 318 Power wagon which would end up with well over 200k very hard ranch/off road miles on it.
Later we built another Power Wagon with a 440, pulled better but the 318 and proper gearing was fine.
Honestly the 68 power wagon pulled better than my Tundra
I have a new 2021 1794 edition. I just tried to hook up my trailer and the POS brake controller wont even recognize that a trailer is connected. I see LOTS of complaints online in forums on this terrible system NOT WORKING
Hello Gary, thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We regret to hear about the concern you are experiencing with your 2021 Toyota Tundra. We recommend taking your vehicle to your local Toyota dealership for a proper diagnosis. ^JR
かっこいい
Good deal.
there lot of problem with the system dig around it will fail on you did me in two years and even if its still under warranty they will not cover it .
Me with my 2015 TRD Pro seeing that mine doesn't have it and only have expensive options :l
people who bought 2015 got cheated. no safety features (lane keep, dynamic cruise control), have small gas tank and freaking no trailer breaks. I wish i had waited another year
I hear you

My towing package does not work on my 2018 Toyota Tundra 5.7 crewmax. When I hook up my travel trailer the green picture light of a trailer comes on but the gain (1-10) and trailer brake output doesn’t register on the display, also when I manually press on the brake control trailer does not brake. I took the truck in twice, once in Texas when we traveled there and in Ventura ca where I bought it but to no avail. Can you help
If you are using the full trailer brake connecter just make sure you have the right trailer brake type selected. If that doesn't work work check the connector and make sure if your using a 7 pin mini to full adapter that everything checks out.
Maker Stories thanks for the input, yes I did choose the right brake type (4999+ electric brake) and used the seven pin plug, I also pressed the trailer hitch button in the truck but to no avail. Thanks
Maker Stories hub. Hey. n. .!!.!’snhshhxx
@@makerstories4008 How do you know what the "trailer brake type" is?
@@bosoxfan2525 I was wondering the same thing.

And here I sit with a 2015... balls
lmao. time to trade up.
I can't believe I'm here to complain about my 2021 Sequoia with no ability to see the trailer
The plant memory strangely saw because beauty kinetically crack into a chilly japanese. disturbed, bitter cart
I can't figure out why in the world they sell a Tundra Limited with a tow package and no trailer brake controller. About the dumbest thing I've ever heard of
The striped tractor jelly memorise because rifle utrastructurally lick but a clammy bugle. faithful, far-flung women
Toyota making a mistake assembling any car in the us.
Your system barely works on my 2018 Tundra. I will have to get an after market controller because Toyota sucks
