This video left out one VERY important feature: Should the battery in remote fail, or vehicle will not recognize it, briefly hold the remote in front of the START button on dash. This will allow the vehicle to recognize the security feature in the remote and allow car to start, even when the remote is not being recognized from distance.

One of the things I was NOT told at dealer when I bought my 2011 used 2 years ago; There is a hidden key in fob and how the battery change works, but here in this video its perfectly explained. Take a star away from the dealer for telling me its $500 for a new fob and no way to change battery for $8. Thankful to O'Rielly for help here... Anyways I still don't know how to use the key in emergency use. Guy at parts store said I could start the car with key as well... under the button he says but no clue on that. Thanks in advance.
They leave a lot of useful info out, like how you can take it to dealer for auto window opening, and the eco mode to temporarily disable the smart key functions. Really good for when you’re in a shady situation

What works for 2021 tacoma is push down lock button 3 times, on third push hold button down until front and rear tail lights flash. Auto start should work. Dealer said I had to pay for a subscription service but found out this hack on you tube.
You can also quickly tap the lock button 2 times and hold it the 3rd time and the car will flash it’s lights and turn on. Just a little Easter egg. Found out after spending 600$ on an aftermarket remote start when the car already had it with the smart key 🙃
Only some models have this feature.
My 17 Corolla XSE fully loaded doesn’t have it
well that $600 is about to start saving you $8/mo on a Toyota subscription if your car is new enough
Also...you can quickly tap the UNLOCK button 2 times and hold the 3rd time to turn the vehicle off. :)

Toyota. Outstanding, that's why I've had 4 New Toyotas 😊. I'm not bragging. When I bought a New Camaro Z28 water pump, it went out in 6 months. I purchased a New Dodge Van conversion, the top front radiator hose, and burst. In the middle of San Diego.

I have leased Corollas for years and the technology has really changed. I"m sure my car can do things of which I am totally unaware. It goes into "eco mode' , for instance, when I accelerate and exceed the speed limit, how is that? . And, there are so many displays from which to choose. There is one option that can be life-saving, that is "Turbo Mode". I feel like Danica Patrick when I deploy that button! I have become the proverbial Little Old Lady Who Drives To Church and Back. I have had the car since 2017 and have 4K miles on it. And now with the pandemic going on, it may stay that number for a long while. My hubby just went out to start the car. For the second time since I leased it, the battery is completely dead. The last time this happened, the car had to be towed to the dealership in order to replace the battery, something about a dead cell. One question for all of you autophiles out there: Does the turbo engine use more gas? And one observation, something I have always complained re: Corollas: the buttons to operate the heat and A/C can cause one's eyes to be diverted. They should use dials or knobs or, the dashboard should be elevated or SOMETHING. I would like to hear from other Corolla drivers on this matter please.

If I have the smart key, power off the car and walk away will the car detect that the key fob in no long in the vacinity and automatically lock the car? I'm not sure if I have the touch lock spot on the handle like in the video.

If the driver is sitting in the driver's seat with the car locked from the inside, and the key fob in their pocket, does this system allow someone on the outside of the car to open the driver's side door and gain access to the inside of the car against the driver's will?

@@Cleigne143 I have now tested this feature in a 2017 Toyota Camry, and it does not allow access from the outside when the fob is in the car! I would definitely test it in any vehicle you might buy though, lock your doors and safety first :)
No. It also will not allow you to lock the fob in the car if you press lock on the handle with keys left inside the car.
No, I have actually tested this. The person outside can't open the door if the car is locked from inside. That'd be unsafe I think.
what happens when you use smart key to lock the doors but one of the windows is half open or a door is not correctly closed?

I wish more people can see this how to video on how to properly use the remote. It irks me when I hear people pushing the unlock button 5 times just to unlock the car or pressing the lock button 8 times when you just have to press it once.
Panasonic's batteries are really the best solution. I've tested it and I am pretty sure that it is the truth!!!

On Chevrolet cars, the mechanical key slot is underneath an end cap on the drivers door. We have to pry off the cap with the mechanical key in order to use it.

I still prefer a mechanical key. If your battery is dead you can use the mechanical key to get inside, how do you then start the car then, or can you with that mechanical key?

You’d intuitively think about the mechanical key when the battery is dead. But i turn it to the right and its not clicking or unlocking my vehicle. Which is my problem right now -________-

The car and remote are communicating, to allow you to grab the door handle and open door. When you break distance, this should stop.

@@keningilbert There's a very good reason for that my friend. If your Toyota is started remotely, it prevents theft because someone else close by can jump in and take off with your vehicle! When the engine shuts off when the door is opened, he no can do!
2023 rav4 limited has a secret remote start feature 😮 dealer didn’t tell me this and it’s not obvious when looking at the remote.

With your windows down, lock your doors. After a few minutes reach your hand in (simulated broken window entry) and unlock door from the inside. The alarm will trip. To turn off the alarm, use your fob lock/unlock to reset the alarm.

I was looking for how to start car using remote its not on this site.
Remote starter is not included in any car.. you have to install it after buying the car.
My 2018 Camry TSX has an app you can download on your phone to start and stop your car, track vehicle and set parameters for other people driving your car. I had to get the premium plus audio system. The car turns off after 10 min (meant as a means to warm up car and in case you get busy and forget cars running) and will turn off if someone tries to open door, theft prevention.
Unfortunately, these 500.00 remotes do not have that feature. If your vehicle has Entune 3.0 Plus, then you can use your smartphone to start car remotely on the associated REMOTE CONNECT service for 8.00 or so a month.

yes, will open and let won't let you lock it so that way you have to search for the key you have in side of your car perhaps if you leave it inside off the car in front or any where it sense it and let you open the door, look for your key and get it lock with out the key inside of the car.
Clark Wayne no you do not. I actually tried it with 2014 Toyota Avalon hybrid, I literally put it in the trunk and shut the trunk. It would not lock.
If you let the battery in remote run down, it will stay locked. STRONG recommendation to have spare remotes. See your friendly dealership or Locksmith BEFORE this happens.

The most important thing they have left out is how to prevent the thieves stealing your car. You press and hold lock, and tap twice on the unlock. That way your smart key stops communicating with your car back and forth, and this way "digital" thieves can't copy the key signal to a empty key and drive away with your car.
I bet I could add this system to my 1999 camry.
