I have been able to use the USB-C connection on the Media Mod for Hero9 to transfer files. You simply have to set the connection to MTP.... it is exactly like using the standard GoPro9 USB-C connection
Just got the 9 plus media mod kit. This was helpful showing the Rode Wirelss Go kit. I think that is exactly the ticket I need! Finally a built in mic jack! Also, the comment below about the MTP setting fixed the problem I had of not being able to see the camera when I plugged it into my pc. The one thig I dislike is not being able to use both front and back mics at the same time!
ya not being able to switch between mics is annoying, hopefully GoPro sees this and will fix it in a firmware update. but you are right the MTP setting did fix it. I still hate how annoying the base plate, this should have been their opportunity to put the screw thread at the bottom lol
I don't like removing/replacing the door. There's a metal spring running most of the length of one side of the plastic C shaped connection. This spring is intended to relieve the expansion pressure on the plastic, but I believe not all pressure is relieved. The plastic _may_ wear out or break from it being expanded each time door is removed/replaced. Kinda like when you bend metal back & forth until it fails. I could be wrong about this, but I still hate removing/replacing the door. I wonder if Go Pro would send a new door @ no charge?
I use a shorty Phillips head screw driver to tighten or loosen the thumb screws. They are just bolts with a Phillips head. That’s my GoPro hack of the day.

Hi Virginia Wolf! soooo you can charge but unfortunately it stops the charging (from all the testing Ive done) when it is recording. Great video. I just bought the Hero 9 and I’m not a huge fan of the audio quality coming out of the media mod mic. I have a Rode external mic, but the damn thing bobs into the shot all the time. I think the onboard mic is actually pretty good, I just purchased some adhesive dead cat material to paste on there, which I think may be the best option overall for a run-and-gun camera.
i want a power/video/audio cable that does what the media mod does without the useless onboard mic and thermally insulating plastic cage. i want to use an aluminum cage to dissipate heat and i want an external mic input with a video output for an external confidence monitor while filming. i would buy the cable from Gopro for the same price as the media mod. is there some proprietary chip inside the media mod that makes it so no one can make what im looking for? any solutions?
@@MrBlackReviews you're a superstar. Not found my niche on here yet with this one. I have a soccer related channel and found myself uploading content on there that was relevant, so I figured start up a second channel and enjoy the stuff that goes on it. Looking forward to watching you grow dude 👍
Hi i am having problem with gopro brand media mod, I have removed side cover before inserting to gopro media mod, I have gopro 9 and 10, my gopro media mod fits with with gopro9 but doesn't fit with gopro10...Can't be two different media mod between 9 and 10? It's so weird.
Purchased the media mod to connect to my ATEM Mini via HDMI. Don’t care about the audio since I’m using a separate XLR mic / mixer anyway. Thanks for this review! Your last video about the GoPro Hero 9 USB-C / HDMI comparison was all I needed to convince me of my next purchase. :) Very helpful. Wish GoPro would sponsor your videos.
thanks George! would be nice if GoPro recognized me lol... some day !!!! :) but yea you should check out my video where I show what I believe to be the best HDMI settings for the gopro to make it look the best it can. ruclips.net/video/UIMYZrhBeOw/видео.html
i tried it without the mod - with and with the wind filter and a rode mic and the best was mod with the wind filter. with the rode mic the audio dropped down to about 25% of the mod mic. the c port allows external battery power so i am happy with this setup. gopro just came out with a water resistant side door that has a small opening for the c port and the 4 ft cable that comes with it is supposed to help with the water resistance. i ordered it 5 days ago and it still has not shipped and now that i have this mod i am not sure if i will need that door.
Hi bro Facing issue with GoPro 8 black..many times voice is not getting recorded in videos..just all sounds vipes out..this problem happens when I use it with mic adapter and external mic.. otherwise no such issue.. checked mic and mic adapter with GoPro 7 and 6..it was fine..means hero 8 is the issue..how to fix pls suggest
Thanks really helpful video. I'm terrible and can't stop buying these! This was really helpful to decide. Great channel too will be checking out you other videos :)
When I go to MODS in the gopro while I'm connecting my media mod on, I can't change the standard mic and it's faded !! Can you please tell me why or maybe my media mod is not working ?
Hi bro, love your video.. One question.. did anyone experience the gopro turn on/off itself after connect to media mod? It happens to me and quite disturbing. Appreciate any feedback
might be my headphones but you got buzzing in what ever mic you use at home, might have gain too high bad ground or something causing interference. Usually make a recording of silence for about 4 seconds and then listen at max volume to see what the base sound is.
thanks Brian. yea I could have had that buzz.. I think I have it figured out now but back then I was trying to find the best way for mics, thanks for the tip and reaching out. sometimes in my office in play back its hard to hear it too because I have some fans going or something!!
I was so excited about using this to do art streams, but all I get is black when I try to plugin to my HD60 S+ with HDMI on my mac :(. Tried the MTP USB setting and all kinds of different settings for hours at this point.
So I’ll make a video about this soon.. a lot of people have this problem (well everyone does ) it’s actually black but still on.. so you need to use your computer monitor to see it and you swipe on the black screen to control it
So there will be a future update for GoPro to support the regular audio adapter? or third party ones? I wish I could record my church audio mix into it
You can record the audio mic into the gopro with the media mod ... the old adapter is supposed to work on the next firmware. Hopefully soon, I’ll make a video out of it asap
Hey Danny- decided to do some videos for my business, and I ran across your channel when researching webcams - extremely helpful. I went with a GoPro HERO9, and initially connected with USB-C - it works beautifully - then after seeing your video with Jay Boston, I ordered the Media Mod; a micro HDMI to HDMI cable; CAM LINK 4K; and I connected the CAM LINK 4K to my MacBook Pro with a USB 3 to USB-C adapter. Zoom can't see the camera when it's cabled this way (error message is "No Camera Connected"). The Media Mod works fine with USB-C. Did I cable the HDMI setup incorrectly? How did you cable to your Mac? I want to do this because HDMI vs USB-C is a dramatic difference. Thank you!
hey, great videos Danny, I am willing to shoot hyperlapse while using a gopro 9 rig with smallHD monitor, so does the HDMI connection over the Media Mod have any delay or latency? if yes, what you suggest please to solve it.
I haven’t seen any latency with it. It seems really smooth coming out of the hdmi of the media mod! Now if it’s 1 ms and your eyes are faster than mine you can’t get mad at me hahah
Cool review Danny..very informative, detailed and not boring 👌.. Hope to see your channel to grow to million of subscribers soon.. ..because of your video I'll buy the gopro 9 and the media mod..👌
Thanks jumper jay. Wow I couldn’t even imagine having 1 million subscribers lol would be awesome but maybe a bit overwhelming . But thanks, and hey, I am still very happy with that purchase! It’s worth it
can you still use the build in mic while having the media mod installed? indoors the build in mic is much cleaner and better overall. and will it get hotter inside the mod? even in 1080p 30fps its getting really warm. and is it possible in webcam mode to use the camera without the battery while its connected via usb?
if you dont need to use the hdmi out, you can just get the adapter, but then probably need a ulanzi case to hold that adapter... I would probably get the media mod and the wireless go can connect right to it easy
Nice one, you did mention sth many YTbers don't mention, I though that the usbc port can still be usable when connecting to the computer but I was wrong....
I had one person tell me that they are able to input video with it on. I’ve tried still and get nothing. So it must be an update or something I don’t have
Hi Danny, Thumbs up for video (y) I am still confused about whether I should buy the MIC adapter + Ulanzi case for GoPro hero 9 or I should buy Media Mod? I want good crystal audio to be recorded from an external mic and want to invest once in either of them.
I would get the media mod. Mainly because they haven’t yet updated for the 3.5 mm adapter yet. However, for the price it’s about the same either way, plus you also get a semi decent mic on the media mod plus the option to output hdmi.
So, it's nearly a year into the future. Has Go Pro made an update to make that mic accessory compatible with the 9, and have you done a comparison of that with the media mod?
I tried to cheap out and go the mic adapter route but at the end there is so much bulk I have to deal with. The mod seems easier. Also the ulanzi plastic case does not allow the max mod either. Total PITA.
Ya, there are other cages from ulanzi that would work with the Max lens, but I agree that sometimes the media mod just works easier... but that’s bottom part irritates me lol
@@MrBlackReviews I literally like to flip the camera from front to back in one shot as I’m vlogging to save having to wait for it to switch off and back on again in quick capture mode or fiddle around with it, mid flow, cos there’s always a bit of a lag. I cut the shot up later. I’m pretty disappointed with the inbuilt mic and feel they must have made it a bit substandard on purpose to get people to buy the media mod. Thanks for the video. It was very enlightening. Hopefully I can use my Rode Wireless with it once that firmware update happens. I already have that chunky adapter you showed that I used with the Hero 5.
Nice video. Great editing. Whisky is the real star of the show. I just picked up the hero 10 and have been considering this mod. Looks like you have a different lense on your camera.
Great content. Love your vids. :) Just want to share my current experience though. My brand new Media Mod just damaged my GoPro 10. GoPro Online Authorized reseller said that the port is not designed to charge nor be connected to an external power source - which is my sole purpose for buying it. Also, while recording with Mod, GoPro will shut down and will not turn on at all. Now, my GoPro also had trouble charging, not an issue before. It obviously fried the circuits. Should not have bought the GoPro Media Mod. Either the it is not fully compatible with GoPro 10 yet or my item is damaged... but I believe it's the latter. Now I am stuck. Though I got an approval for refund, there is no offical service center here in the Philippines. So much money invested on an accessory I could not use and damaged my unit.
I use the media mod as a case to hold the rode go wireless and the light as the small rig case is alot less waterproof lol. Not that the media mod is waterproof but it protects it alot more than the small rig kit. I used it once and now im selling it lol
The big problem with this Media Mod is that we have to remove it to put a new battery.. there is no door on the side to change a battery, why did they do this ?
I want to buy this thing for Moto vlogging , but after seeing the position of 3.5 mm port at the back, I am confused about connecting an external mic without touching the helmet , help me out , thanks in advance ❤️
I always wonder why not just shoot the footage and the just record a voice over with the gopro after . However if you are concerned and want the audio to work while you are on the Moto you can get a ulanzi case and 3.5 mm audio adapter
That’s super awesome! You will love it. I would suggest creating a custom preset.. and then connecting it to the phone app and playing with different iso and shutter speeds. 4K with a wide angle will look awesome. But you will love it, and just on the 5k setting it will look awesome already :)
Yup. It sounds great too. I did a video recently reviewing some wireless headphones for playing music... and had it hooked straight into the gopro media mod

@@TheWannabeGeek i am a E scooter fan and saw you have a few of those videos... although i just started getting into Eskate and its more fun than i was expecting
ya I think it would be so much better to just have it built in... (playing devils advocate) I can see why they would do it. They made an action camera and not everyone will need to plug in an external mic, so they made it as small and compact and then people can buy up the things they need instead of putting it all in one and paying for features you won't use ...
i like the adapter and case over the media mod as far as convenience... but the media mod is probably more reliable ( i havent had any problems with the adapter) but the media mod also shows the audio meters which can be helpful.
I have another vid coming out later today where I got the hdmi out settings looking great as a webcam. I didn’t want to like the media mod and was wanting the ulanzi thing to work better, but the sad fact is that, 1) no hdmi out without media mod. 2) even though the media mod mic isn’t top level, it’s still nice to have a decent one on there built in. That’s my justification 😊
If you are having trouble connecting your media mod via hdmi this video with most likely work for you !!

Thanks Danny. Really helped me out as I am just about to buy the hero 10 and knew sod all about the media mod. Very well edited. Subbed Cheers Gerry 👍
Do you have the rode micro???
@@MrBlackReviews Yes.
i want a power/video/audio cable that does what the media mod does without the useless onboard mic and thermally insulating plastic cage. i want to use an aluminum cage to dissipate heat and i want an external mic input with a video output for an external confidence monitor while filming. i would buy the cable from Gopro for the same price as the media mod.
is there some proprietary chip inside the media mod that makes it so no one can make what im looking for? any solutions?
I love Whisky he added a little je ne sais quoi to the review. My mod will be here soon so good to see this . Keep up the good work
Thanks MC. Ya whiskey is a delight but I gave up on him trying to do tricks for videos, sometimes I get lucky though lol
Thank you! Am loving your videos!
Thanks gail! I appreciate it :)
I forget where in the settings but somewhere in the settings you have to change it to MTP for the computer to download files
Ya I think you are right... it’s in the connections section
Just found your Video got a hero 9 last month for my birthday got lost of accessories bought and returned is this worth having in 2023
Yes Danny. I've just come across you channel through this vid. You deserve more views and subs dude, keeping working hard and you'll smash it on here.

I bought the media mod because GoPro wouldn’t let me connect certain accessory’s without it
Bro im confused...bw media mode n adaptor... please tell me which will be best for moto bloging n normal blogging...tell me one setup for both
Purchased the media mod to connect to my ATEM Mini via HDMI.
The image stabilization is amazing!
Very fast PACED video man, KEEP up the LEGENDARY WORK BROTHER
Hey thanks so much for the kind words kpg!! I appreciate it
i tried it without the mod - with and with the wind filter and a rode mic and the best was mod with the wind filter. with the rode mic the audio dropped down to about 25% of the mod mic. the c port allows external battery power so i am happy with this setup. gopro just came out with a water resistant side door that has a small opening for the c port and the 4 ft cable that comes with it is supposed to help with the water resistance. i ordered it 5 days ago and it still has not shipped and now that i have this mod i am not sure if i will need that door.
How do you safely remove the windscreen from the mic
Thanks man! I just bought mine today.. It's on sale in NZ 🤙
Oh nice!! It is a worthwhile investment !!!! Thanks for the comment and much love to the kiwis
Hi bro
Facing issue with GoPro 8 black..many times voice is not getting recorded in videos..just all sounds vipes out..this problem happens when I use it with mic adapter and external mic.. otherwise no such issue.. checked mic and mic adapter with GoPro 7 and 6..it was fine..means hero 8 is the issue..how to fix pls suggest
I like the Ulamzi case because of the ability to use 52mm filters. I know there are other options for this but this works well for me.
Ya that’s a great idea. I have yet to get a 52mm filter but I did get a ulanzi case that supports them
@@MrBlackReviews they really help in certain situations. Have a great day and be safe out there!
While in the Media Mod, can the whole thing be set on a tripod?
So just to clarify....you can just plug an external mic into the media mod without using the mic adaptor???
can you use the usb type c of the media mod to charge the gor pro 9 using powerbanks?
might be my headphones but you got buzzing in what ever mic you use at home, might have gain too high bad ground or something causing interference.
Great info. Thanks!
@@MrBlackReviews got it maybe I will hold on , it could be months or years for the firmware update right ?
Thank you!
sorry TED... i didnt realize you commented on here first... it was in the held for review section for some stupid reason!
hey, great videos Danny, I am willing to shoot hyperlapse while using a gopro 9 rig with smallHD monitor, so does the HDMI connection over the Media Mod have any delay or latency? if yes, what you suggest please to solve it.
I haven’t seen any latency with it. It seems really smooth coming out of the hdmi of the media mod! Now if it’s 1 ms and your eyes are faster than mine you can’t get mad at me hahah
@@MrBlackReviews sure will not get mad man. you are doing great videos and thank you for answering
What we need to buy, adapter or media mode ,
I am buying, GoPro 9 & wireless go
if you dont need to use the hdmi out, you can just get the adapter, but then probably need a ulanzi case to hold that adapter...
So it must be an update or something I don’t have
Hi Danny,
Thumbs up for video (y)
I am still confused about whether I should buy the MIC adapter + Ulanzi case for GoPro hero 9 or I should buy Media Mod? I want good crystal audio to be recorded from an external mic and want to invest once in either of them.
I would get the media mod. Mainly because they haven’t yet updated for the 3.5 mm adapter yet. However, for the price it’s about the same either way, plus you also get a semi decent mic on the media mod plus the option to output hdmi.
The media mod is all you ever need if close to the GoPro when recording.
So, it's nearly a year into the future. Has Go Pro made an update to make that mic accessory compatible with the 9, and have you done a comparison of that with the media mod?
hi Philaw... yes I actually did a video of media mod vs 3.5mm adapter ruclips.net/video/ysYfiIvgjhc/видео.html
I use the Media Mod with a 10. It drains the battery super fast.
Oh wow! I would definitely want to swap, hassle-free, between rear and front mic.
Right!? Maybe that can be a fix. There is a short cut you can add to the front screen I believe . But you still need to stop recording to change it
@@MrBlackReviews I literally like to flip the camera from front to back in one shot as I’m vlogging to save having to wait for it to switch off and back on again in quick capture mode or fiddle around with it, mid flow, cos there’s always a bit of a lag.
Just want to share my current experience though.
Sorry to hear about your unit, so this means that the media mod cannot be used plugged in?
Does this work with the Lens Mod????
Hey man I just got a GoPro hero 9 for Christmas and I’m into mountain biking what are some good settings to use when there is snow on the ground
That’s super awesome! You will love it. I would suggest creating a custom preset.. and then connecting it to the phone app and playing with different iso and shutter speeds. 4K with a wide angle will look awesome. But you will love it, and just on the 5k setting it will look awesome already :)
Can I do line in to Gopro using media mod and Line in cable ?
Yup. It sounds great too. I did a video recently reviewing some wireless headphones for playing music... and had it hooked straight into the gopro media mod
I see... It’s kinda good, but we need to wait for some software updates 🤔
So if I purchase the media mod, I should be able to use this with the ATEM MINI PRO?!? 🤔
yes it would go hdmi out and into the ATEM MINI
I literally thought the same thing when it came to the mount on the bottom I got protection just because of them
Ah ya, it’s so weird they could have just put a screw thread at the bottom . I keep forgetting when I’m taking it out and it drives me crazy
What light is that? I don’t think I saw a link
It’s. Manfrotto however it’s not that great. I have some new ones from ulanzi that are amazing

Have a great week
why arent there any universal microphone adapters yet? I dont like that big block for the Hero9, and neither the media mod.
ya I think it would be so much better to just have it built in... (playing devils advocate) I can see why they would do it. They made an action camera and not everyone will need to plug in an external mic, so they made it as small and compact and then people can buy up the things they need instead of putting it all in one and paying for features you won't use ...
Which one is best for vlogging, adaptor or Media, GoPro 9
if you are using the wireless go, i would say yes to the media mod.
Road wireless go with media mode or adapter, which is the best
i like the adapter and case over the media mod as far as convenience... but the media mod is probably more reliable ( i havent had any problems with the adapter) but the media mod also shows the audio meters which can be helpful.
Nice video. Thanks! I love my new 9. Still considering the Media Mod. I have all the Ulanzi stuff for my 7, so might just wait for the update.
