Maybe could try find and contact the person who made these DJ mixtapes back in the day if he's anywhere still out there, Its not much but it'd be our best chance of trying to find any smidge of extra info
*Edit: Song is found, Song title is 'vital sines - mandalay', Great job lads, Always great to have these songs found... now if only we could find the band or person that made 'like the wind' but i doubt that'll happen ever at this point*
@foxymoron7337 It’s definitely some kind of Italo Disco song. I’ve checked in Italo Disco playlists and still nothing.
It's from DJ Lance Wise who played this song at L.A. gay bar "The Probe" in the early 80s.
I already tried to track down Lance Wise but didn't have any luck. He may not even be alive now.
The organisation that archived the mixtape is the San Francisco Disco Preservation Society. I contacted them about the first half of the song and they don't know either. I'm starting to suspect it's from a radio/tv ad, snippet from a show, or even made by the DJ himself.
@@zakman246 What do you mean by a documentary?
@@ryancannon4110 lol wtf, no idea why I wrote documentary hahaha. I think I mean to write the "nightclub/DJ themselves".
There's a gap of silence before the music starts back up, maybe the DJ played this homemade track to introduce the "second half" of the DJ set. An intro sound after having a break from the turntables maybe?
It might even be from a tv show/movie, radio/tv advertisement or made by the DJ himself...

It sounds kinda 80’s new-wave. Maybe one of those kindsa bands that never took off?

what is new wave
i came here to say this. it really does sound like an old oingo boingo demo but i doubt it's them
@@niffuM4205 if you're not familiar with the 80's music scene at the time in the west, New Wave was a genre of music that grew in the late 70s until the late 80s when it died out. The genre was pioneered by other bands such as blondie, devo, david bowie, talking heads, and other post punk bands mainly used to refer to pop like sounding post punk.
The genre fell into misuse to sometimes refer to anything that had any relation to synthpop, italo disco, or any 80s edm at the time.
Although I'm not to known of the genre but that mainly comes from shared knowledge.
It is certainly similar. Oingo Boingo had a ton of rare unreleased tracks too. However, the fanbase for Oingo Boingo is pretty dedicated, their unreleased tracks are fairly well documented online.

Now... as for the first part of the song. I actually managed to contact the uploader of the full recording and I got this response:
"Hello!
Sorry, I don't recognize that one and have never heard it in my 42 years of DJIng."
So I now suspect.... Maybe this was from a radio/tv ad or the theme song to a show? It may have inadvertently slipped into the recording or been included as a joke. Or maybe it was even made as a "theme" for the nightclub by the DJ himself.
@zakman246 When I found that link, I thought it was gonna be the full song. I wonder where the full song is. I have a feeling it’s a rare demo of Oingo Boingo.
@@ryancannon4110 The uploader responded and it would seem that first song is incredibly obscure!
I'm wondering if it's from an advertisement or TV episode. The original DJ mix has heaps of songs in it, but when this plays there's a noticeable and intentional gap - I suspect something happens before this recording starts (DJs are taking a break, radio is playing, an intermission was finishing etc)

Ok listening to this again, sounds like end credits, as the tune phases in and out of new tunes like end credits often do, so maybe its from a movie, or tv show from the 80s.

Let's go this got foud!
sounda like a cover of a oldie, seems very low budget, synthesizers way too loud and sound kinda out of tune + they dont fit at all to the rest of the song. I guess someone just put synthesizers above an oldie, perhaps someone in the 80s
All you hear after 10 seconds is ""Europa - Yummy Yummy" song put over the top of the unknown song. DJ's choice to blend it together
@@Kurty94I love how we casually helped alot but litterally no one cares. Lets me suspect that this "DJ" did not mix that in the 80s but in like 2020 or sth to get attention.
Are we sure it’s that the synthesizers are poorly tuned, and it’s not just potential aging or loss of quality due to how it’s been archived/shared online?
@@IdioticNeon No the synthesizers are exactly the same as in the other song. And they don't fit to the song. So yes, we are sure. Europa used synthesizers and the song put over the oldie is definetly with synthesizer.
@@tom_wuba original uploader is sharing authentic 80s recordings of DJ sets so I don't doubt it's from 1985. There is full show with that song.

How ironic
it sounds like a oingo boingo demo-
The first part definitely does, yeah!
dang thast crazy
We gays love disco, so while I suspect the 2nd song is clearly from the 80s, "One Chance" might've been made way earlier. No later than 1979. Disco demolition night etc etc. Notice the lack of reverbed drums and plastic synths in the first one. Even "Bad Girls" from Donna Summer from '79 sounds more modern than this. Literally disco.
@leovrsz The second one is called “Yummy Yummy” by Europa and is from 1986. I was thinking the song “One Chance” was from the 70’s. No earlier than 1975 and no later than 1979. It kinda sounds like a really good knockoff of Oingo Boingo.
@@ryancannon4110 Precisely my thoughts, though I'm world's #1 Bingo Oinkgo hater, so I have no opinion on the last statement
@@ryancannon4110I agree, it sounds somewhat like a demo from their transition from a theatrical group to a band

Gives me flash and the pan vibes. It might also be a bit slowed down, that could either be the DJ slowing it so it fits or a bit of tape warping. Either way, it sounds a bit like an art rock band...
The pitch sounds a bit off, perhaps it’s playing slower than it should be?
Edit: Turns out I was kinda right in a way
People upload these tunes at such low bitrates, and the upper sonic frequencies are completely distorted. It's so hard to hear what the song is when it's not correctly equalized.
genuinely frustrated that i can't find not even one member of this band anywhere. the members are listed on discogs, though who knows if its accurate but maybe my copy will mention the personell(e?). my point is, i can't find a trace of any of them not even if i go with the unshorted first names. when i finally heard this whole record i came to the conclusion the mystery ain't over yet. that voice is so damn good, and the synthwork can be wonky sure i guess but it sounds great, these are great songs. work the heck ARE these guys?! especially mandalay and i am the city. great production. gonna look imto another record i just found credited by a band of the same name that is also canadian. maybe this will lead me further, the voice will tell me if its the same band, i know that much.

It’s very Oingo Boingo sounding and while it could absolutely be any random new-wave band, I would not be surprised if they were inspired by or are actually Oingo Boingo. The quality of this is akin to their demos from the Mystic Knights era (recorded 1979) and sounds like something they would have made at that time in terms of melody and the singer’s voice. But I also believe that if this is a different band, which is very likely since I don’t know of any OB lost media and bc these lyrics aren’t very OB, it would be a little later than that and perhaps have similar audio quality.
