The timeless appeal of Pink Floyd’s “Time”

- The Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd stands alone in many ways. By dealing with the uncomfortable concepts of life, death, greed, and mental illness, this body of work chimes with the human experience on a real level, which is remarkable considering that Roger Waters wrote the lyrics when he was just in his late 20’s. The content resonates so completely that The Dark Side Of The Moon holds the record on the Billboard 200 chart for being the longest-charting album in the chart’s history - over a thousand weeks and counting. It is one of the best-selling albums in the world, one of the most important in the entire rock genre. And when it comes to “Time,” track four on side one, we have a song that confronts us with our very path of existence. It traces the whole pattern of life, from youth to death and the great beyond, in six minutes and 53 seconds of pure poetry and amazingly creative audio imagery - ticking clocks and all. Get into it in this episode of the Behind The Song podcast.

my english teacher handed out a poem for us to analyze, it was a beautiful poem about time
that poem was actually the lyrics for this song, and when he played the actual song after it was the first time i heard pink floyd
now a few years later they are my favorite band of all time, and this is my favorite song of all time
I haven't left a comment in a while! I had to chime in because you did a beyond amazing job on this one, as you always do! You make us think and feel very deeply about everything, and that makes life more meaningful and ominous, along with other things that are too numerous to mention!
The last thing I'd like to suggest is if you can do an episode on Time Waits For No One by The Rolling Stones! Another introspective and humbling song! Keep up the great work! Take care!
Thank you so much!! Great suggestion on the Stones song.
I really enjoyed this one, Janda! Your passion and knowledge of these classic rock songs is truly amazing. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to your next episode.
Thanks, Janda. Your the best!
You are!
Back in the groove again with the clear vinyl version, it's an album that will forever be timeless ❤
Great dive into a classic song. Your voice really draws the listener in. Thank you!
What a fantastic episode Janda!! Please keep up the great work!!
This was my second Pink Floyd album I had already own pipers at the Gates of Dawn but this album when I first heard it blew me away
For years I had no clue of what I was hearing. Thank you for your excellent job of explaining this beautiful song. Keep On Rocking Janda🤘🤘🤘 And a special thanks to Christian fir his amazing work👍👍👍
Thanks so much!
I was one of a fairly small size universe that discovered Pink Floyd before Dark Side of the Moon!!! I was at a friend's house overnight and there was a record on a record player I didn't recognize. My friend and four of his friends were playing poker and I wasn't into playing poker so I asked if I could just start this record. I had no idea who Pink Floyd was but it was some song called "ECHOES"!!! That song blew me out of the universe. Obscured by clouds came out and I was really excited. There were some incredible songs on that album and I was hoping another album would come out by them soon and I'd be happy with anything!! That album just happened to be "Dark Side of The Moon" yeah I was blown back into the universe with that one.
Last thing when Dark Side of the Moon came out Rodger Waters had his wife at the time listen to it. When she was done listening all she could do was CRY! Rodger said he thought that might be a good sign.....
I’m glad this took you back!
Storm Thorgerson album art for Pink Floyd: Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, Atom Heart Mother and Wish You Were Here.
Always found it amazing the way this band was always able to not only write lyrics and accompanying them with skilled instrumentation, but also construct solid thematic, conceptual frameworks that tied everything together. Artistic perfection. 💯
every morning I put on Pink Floyd and by the end of the day I listen to pretty much every album but this is one of the best songs of their career
Another brilliant thesis. Great song. You did it great justice.
I listened "Time" for the first time when I was arround 18 but it wasnt until I was 28 that the lyrics hit me like a fucking train.
One of the songs of my life
We hear ya!
Great song explanation, thank you so much. Also thanks to Pink Floyd for creating such a masterpiece.
Thank you very much. For me PF is the best band ever and their music i can say is classical music...Pls can you make more videos about Pink Floyd and especially their lyrics at the early years of the band? I mean Psychedelic songs like Set the controls for the heart of the sun or Echoes. Thank you once again.
Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you for watching.

Thank you for watching!
Sid: Besides painting and gardening of which I’m unsure where those details came from, it is well known and documented that he fried his mind on LSD while secluding himself in his mothers’ home.
AWESOME
Thanks 🤗
Waters is a f...... GENIUS!!😎😎
This morning.
mmm….that voice🥰
Nice vid.
The older I get, the more poignant Rog's words become. Just a poem without Dave, Rick & Nick. The sum, greater than their parts!
Please can I have a few more years?
✌️😌💜
this woman is brilliant , not to mention HOT!
Roger Waters is a raging asshole but these lyrics on this album are supreme.
So much said in such few words.
"All you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be."
Think hard about that.
Hey Janda! Very nice to see and hear you again. I trust you, your husband and kitty are doing well. Thank you for sharing your endless knowledge about music with us. Its as enjoyable as the music itself... Take care.
