It's a lovely pen. Enjoy! My only gripe is their warning of taking the pen apart and voiding its warranty. Vacuum fillers whose sections that can't be removed are a real pain in the butt to clean and being able to remove the section makes cleaning them a very easy and. fast experience. With that said I love the pen and I love Pilot in general as I do the other Japanese pen manufacturers as their penchant for quality control and the fact that they manufacture their own nibs makes them sort of outliers today.
Obviously you enjoy that model, so congratulations. I really don't like transparent or translucent bodies and wish more manufacturers used ebonite in all sorts of patterns, but that's just my preference. Wishing you all the best for Christmas and the coming year. BTW, the 'waffle' weave of your jumper looks cool. Cheers from 'Terror' Australis.
I quite agree about the use of ebonite. It would be so much nicer if more brands decided to put out more pens in ebonite instead of what they’re doing now. And ebonite pens need not necessarily be pricey. However, a lot of ebonite pens seem to charge a premium price, sadly.
Nice! I only wish Pilot would sell/make their nibs available, separately. But, they don't. So, I also own more than one Custom 823. Matter of fact, two are in my current rotation; an amber and a clear ... love em! Cheers!
This is the same complaint I have about Sailor and Platinum, too. It’s so annoying and inexcusable not to offer separate gold nib units in different size points to purchase for these often premium priced models from these Japanese brands.
Pilot and Sailor nibs can be purchased separately. A lot of small pen makers are now offering them as options to the standard Jowo nibs. I just got a commissioned pen from Skogsy Pens that has a 14K Pilot nib. Just Turnings in Australia is offering Pens with Sailor nibs
I still haven’t replaced my broken amber 823. If I ever do, I might go for this clear demo pen with a different nib, if available. But then, I already have all the Pilot pens I like best: Silvern Tsumugi, Custom Urushi vermillion, Custom 845, Justus 95, Falcon and a pair of E95s. It’s all the Pilot I need. For identically priced pens, I much prefer the Justus 95 to the 823. Right now, I’m only looking to buy myself another Taccia or two. I already own three Taccia pens. It a brand I’m extremely fond of.
@ So I’m told Signature nibs are essentially a well tuned double broad. I have a broad nib on my 2000 steel. I find that more than enough in terms of anything I need.
@@MrAndrew1953 gosh, Andrew, you can say that again about the Lamy 2k broad. It’s really a double broad by the nib size width standards of every other pen brand (save Pelikan, presumably). I love it. The 2k broad is one of my trio of favorite broad nibs ever. I have the double broad on my steel 2k. Imagine that! 😀
There is no more chaste fountain pen purchase than a Pilot Custom 823. Especially the clear material. I in fact bought this identical pen a few months ago (without the ink bottle, smaller box), and was disappointed in the nib, it's just too broad/bold for my handwriting on the paper I use. it probably is good for signatures, but I wasn't intending to buy a pen just for signatures. Oh well.
I've been wanting this exact pen and nib since it came out. I was hoping you would say you didn't love it so I could save some money. Seriously, though, I'm glad you're happy with your purchase. (My one Custom 823 has a medium cursive nib and it is a lovely writer.)
This pen is on my wish list. I wish Pilot would release it in more colors. I would have chosen the same pen you did, as everyone has the amber version.
Enjoy the pen -again. Sigh,I guess I need to get around to buying one of these, probably the brown, hopefully it won’t look so much like a demonstrator.
My 823 has a B nib that Gena ground to a stub for me. Great pens! I do find them to be a little longer than I prefer. Most of my shirt pockets leave an awful lot of pen sticking out of the top with the 823.
Glad you’re enjoying your new pen. If you like a certain model, it doesn’t hurt to have more than one, especially if you have lots of pretty inks!
I agree! It’s what I did with the modern Aurora 88. I once owned eight of them. I’ve since pared it down to the four I’ll always keep.
This makes three, and I'm probably done there.
Hi. This is one
of the greatest pens on the market.😍
I agree with that! The 823 is wonderful with any nib.

They built everything to really tight tolerances. I can see issues on both sides of that. But, as you say, their focus on quality is important.
Obviously you enjoy that model, so congratulations. I really don't like transparent or translucent bodies and wish more manufacturers used ebonite in all sorts of patterns, but that's just my preference.

Ebonite is a beautiful material. But for a filling mechanism like this pen, I think some kind of demonstrator is best.
I'm so happy that you pulled the trigger in this one. I did it as well and I don't regret it. I enjoyed it 🎉a lot.
It has been a really fun pen!
Thanks and congratulations! Enjoy.
I'm enjoying it very much!
Nice! On packaging, I’d happily trade in all the boxes for single pen sleeves in fabric or even plastic..
I like the plain cardboard sleeves. The packaging doesn't matter.

I agree that having certain nibs available would be a huge help! I've found Platinum 3776 nibs occasionally, but never Pilot.
You can always just buy a medium nib unit to make any of the pens write medium!
Good point. With some searching, nibs can be found.
Congrats on the beautiful new pen! I am lusting after the demonstrator version of the Pilot Custom 823 but maybe next year! Thanks for sharing!
It's a beauty!
good for you! Happy Christmas to yourself!
Thank you! Enjoying it a lot, and it may make an appearance in your mailbox soon.

The Pilot Justus 95 is a great pen. Now I'm going to have to ink mine up!
Pilot Custom 823, always a winner !!
Absolutely! Love that pen!
nice looking pen!! congrats :)
I agree! Pilot has a great pen here.
That’s the most dangerous, exciting part of filling vacuum fillers the whole 9 yards.
What’s another name for a Signature nib?
In essence, the Signature nib is nothing unique - only a well-tuned double broad. Nothing better or worse than that.
Signature nibs aren't as special as I hoped. They're just a double broad with a stubby nature.

I enjoy it for showing off a beautiful ink. But you're right: a signature nib is nothing special.

I am happy with this nib. It's well made and the brand is managed well.
I love my 823 in fine. It’s so great. I do prefer cartridges over vac fill, so I will try the 743 next.
If you prefer cartridges, the 743 is athe better option. Either way, the nib is amazing!
This pen is on my wish list. I wish Pilot would release it in more colors. I would have chosen the same pen you did, as everyone has the amber version.
I now have one of each. When I bought my Amber, that's all I could buy in the US. Great to see the variety now!
Enjoy the pen -again. Sigh,I guess I need to get around to buying one of these, probably the brown, hopefully it won’t look so much like a demonstrator.
The 823 is a great pen. And I'm loving this nib on it!
And I'll just add that the Amber finish is a great compromise between demonstrator and solid.
@ Good to know about the finish. Thanks.

I had to read that about 4 times before I realized Geha (vintage pen brand) didn't grind the pen.
Yes, the 823 is a long pen!
Noooo..... not washable blue! Maybe try the blueblack once its an interesting color.;)
I can’t stand this Parker washable blue either. The Pilot blue that comes in the box with the 823 isn’t a lot better.
Pilot Blue-Black is a gorgeous ink! It is the ink that opened me up to blue inks and what helped me make my peace with Parker Washable Blue.
@@WaskiSquirrel The standard Sailor blue-black is arguably even a lot nicer.
Meh, very expensive for me!😢
I agree. I have to carefully budget for a pen like this.
The ONLY reason i don't already own an 823 is because they are all GT! 😂 The moment a CT version drops, I'm robbing a bank fo afford one 😉
They really could and should have offered a CT version for this clear demo.
@sajjadhusain4146 indeed. It would be awesome.
I prefer the JP version!
