📃📄📃📄📃INSTRUCTIONS 📃📄📃📄📃📄
1. In a large bowl add 8 oz of softened cream cheese, 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, 1 large egg yolk, 1/4 tsp of vanilla extract and the zest of 1 lemon. Make sure to only use the yellow part and avoid the white rind since its very bitter.
2. Alright now that you have all your filling ingredients in the bowl, beat it on high speed using an electric hand mixer until the filling is smooth and creamy.
3. Now set that aside and lightly flour your work surface. Then unfold 1 lb package of thawed puff pastry and begin rolling out each sheet of puff pastry lengthwise about 2 inches. so that they measure (9x11 inches).
4. Now cut off the top 2 corners of the puff pastry. And set them aside. Don’t toss them. Bake those along with the danish and eat them with some jam or Nutella.
5. Take your kitchen shears and begin making slits into the dough along both sides. You’ll want to make about 9-10 slits per side. See where the puff pastry is was folded into 3rds, make sure not to cut past that line.
6. Once you get to the last strip at the bottom you’ll be left with 2 flaps, just cut those off and set them aside to bake with the other corner scraps.
Add the cheese filling
7. Now split your cream cheese filling among both danishes, keeping the filling contained in the middle third of the puff pastry.
8. Now fold over the top flap and begin crossing over the strips for the braid. So you’ll want to just switch from right to left until you get to the last 2 strips. Fold the bottom flap up and cross the last 2 strips over.
9. Now you want to gently transfer the danishes over to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
10. Then make your egg wash by combing 1 egg with 1 tsp of water. Give a good thorough swish then brush it over the danishes using a pastry brush.
11. Now place the danishes in the oven and bake them at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for about 20 to 25 minutes or until they’re golden brown. Remove the cheese danishes from the oven and let them cool to room temperature.
12. In a small bowl combine 1/2 cup of powdered sugar with 2 tbsp of heavy cream. Once the pastry has cooled to almost room temperature you can begin drizzling the glaze on top.

Off topic but I love your shirt ❤ very cute
Thank you Carmella! 🥰
Which puff pastry sheets do you use? Love your videos!
Thank you! I use Pepperidge farm puff pastry sheets. I hope you love this cream cheese danish recipe :)
You deserve so much more subs
Thank you! I wish I had more as well :)
Does it taste the same when you use croissant dough? Just asking because I want to make it for my family and by the way thank you so much ❤
Hi, it is pretty similar so yes you can use it to make this cream cheese danish :) I hope you really love this recipe :)
Hi would I be able to do the same recipe with out the lemon zest and it still taste good?😮
Yes you can! I hope you love this cream cheese danish recipe :)
I’m guessing these can be frozen?
I would love to make quite a bit that way later on when I want one I can just pop it into the oven! ☺️
Would I freeze it after I cook it or before?
Hi :) Yes these can be frozen! I have never tried freezing this particular recipe since we always devour them :) It would be better to freeze them before you bake them. When you are ready to enjoy this cream cheese danish let it thaw out then bake it :) Hope that helps :)
I may try something like this...the store bought cheese Danish, in my location, are not very good & they're too expensive.
I’d love to hear how it works out for you when you give it a try!
How did you make the dough
CN you make these the night before and keep them refrigerated until next morning to bake ?
Hi Angela, I have never tried this. I am afraid that the dough might get soggy over time.
@@SimplyHomeCooked
I’m trying it tonight - let you know tomorrow!
Hi everyone.
I was Soooooo excited to make this Cheese Danish.
I have 2 comments that I'd like to share
1- the Puff Pastry needs to be DEFROSTED. I guess I should have know this but it just put me back 40min or so. All other prep was done. Even my oven.
2- The cooking time of 20 minutes was wrong at least for me. On top and below the Cream Cheese was not cooked at all. So either I did something wrong or it simply needed more time in oven. So I wrapped in aluminum foil and baked on 325° to rewarm it then the 400 for another 30 min.
It's very crispy but YUMMY
How do I check the interior?
I can't really see in there.
Any ideas for me?
I'm going to remake today I love Cheese Danish.
Txs for listening
Hi Susan :) thank you for giving this recipe a try and for your feedback!
Yes you want the puff pastries to be thawed for this recipe. If they are not fully thawed that could make them underbaked inside. I have actually used other ovens to make these cream cheese danishes and I also had to bake them a little bit longer. Every oven is slightly different so that also has to be taken into account.
Also depends if you are using conventional or convectional baking.
The danish should be done once your egg wash on the danish is golden brown.
I hope that helps clarify :)
Was that dough you started with just plain bread dough? Or was it a specialty dough? Available pre made or is dough from scratch?
No its not bread dough. This is puff pastry dough.
When purchasing the pastry what names does it run under like “puff pastry “... and is it found in freezer section of grocery store , and how many packages do I need to buy to make 2?pastry
Thankyou
Hi Cathy, the package should say "puff pastry" on it and it is usually found next to the frozen pies and frozen fruit. You will need 1 package, which contains 2 separate sheets.
Is the filling for 2 or 1 danish?
Yes, this filling is for both danishes.
Is it ok to eat the cheese filling with a raw egg in it.?
Will it turn out ok if you can’t use lemon
Hi Debbie, yes you can still make it without lemon :)
Do you have the dough recipe?
Hi :) Yes I do, but it is a rather large portion. Here is a link to the recipe from my website: simplyhomecooked.com/danish-pastry-dough/
Do I need to add the lemons zest thing because i don’t have any of those tools
You don't need the lemon zest but it definitely adds a lot of amazing flavor :)
@@SimplyHomeCooked oh yeah i don’t like lemon tho it’s so sour but thanks for responding
You are very welcome :)
@@SimplyHomeCooked u know what im gonna sub because of u thanks
You are very welcome and thank you! :)
I like how you say Nutella instead of Nootella lol
Haha thank you :)
@@SimplyHomeCooked oh & I made the danish it was sooo good! Thank you!
Yay! So happy you loved this danish! Thank you so much for letting me know :) I hope you find many more delicious recipes on my food blog and this YT channel :)
Maybe these comments will help her in the future.
Is lemon zest absolutely necessary? I started making but I don't have a lemon. 😆can I use an orange?
Hi Diane :) Yes you can replace the lemon with orange or just omit it. It will just have an orange flavor versus a lemon flavor to the danish. The lemon also adds a bit of tartness to balance the sweetness. Hope that helps :)
@@SimplyHomeCooked I just used an Orange and my family loved it. I used a very large Mandarin Orange that has a nipple on it. 😆 It was so good. It was amazing how little of zest I had to use too for the orange flavor to come out. About a 1/2 a Tsp. Thanks for sharing your resipes. ❤️
@@deedee72399 You are very welcome! Happy to hear that the orange worked and you and your family loved this recipe! Thank you for following up and leaving your feedback! If you ever get a chance I would really appreciate your feedback on my blog, it really helps me a lot! Thank you :)
@@SimplyHomeCooked I would be happy to help, but I don't know what a blog is. I'm terrible with technology. Maybe you could explain to me what a blog is. 😁
@@deedee72399 no worries! It’s just my website where I have all of my food recipes. I only have a small percent of my recipes on RUclips with videos. I have a lot more recipes on my website. When people leave feedback on my website it helps me. Here is the link- simplyhomecooked.com/cheese-danish-pastry/
At the top you will see two buttons. One is to jump to the full recipe and the other is to print out the recipe. Most of the writing is more explanation and answering questions people may have. Under the full recipe ‘recipe card’ is a section for comments and star ratings. I hope that helps explain a little bit and thank you so much for your support! :)
Also some comments on RUclips get buried and I don’t see them (mostly replies since I don’t get notifications). So I may not reply as well. On my blog I reply to all the comments :)
I didn't want to say it.😮
Why can you show how to make the pastry dough from scratch
for d-said. can’t anyone do honemade? you needed an apron for this video?
Use a pizza cutter to cut the pastry
Great tip!
And you are so cute. 🤗
Thank you 🥰
Cutting the strips with a pizza cutter would be easier.
Great tip, thank you :)
👋👅🐲👅
But the bitter part is so healthy: like many other bitter foods (as leafy greens, grapefruit etc.): it helps detox our liver, which helps us lose weight, & cleanses our blood!!
Hopefully you washed your hands after licking your fingers before handling the pastry…. Or just you alone will be eating the danish!
No need to worry, I was not planning on sharing with you :)
Oh, please!!!
I don't like to see people cooking with their bare hands n licking their fingers 😔
So don't watch! Geez
Please don’t suck on your fingers while you teaching people to cook 🤦🏻♀️ I know we all do that but don’t do it here!
Lighten-up!
sorry but that is not a danish ,we dont put cheese in it ,a danish is a sweet pastry with fruit in it , if you ever came to denmark and went in to a baker and did ask for a cheese danish they would laugh at you and tell you there is not some thing calld a cheese danish
Nobody cares
That may be the case but, this is her take on a danish. It looks delicious!
The beauty of being a home cook is that you can make every recipe to your liking. You are more than welcome to make any adjustments to your liking :)
why the hell would anybody go to Denmark to get one when this is a recipe on how to make it yourself 😌
This is an american danish and it has and always will have cheese in it. Different lands, different cultures. One adapts to where one is.
She keeps locking her fingers and then handling the dough...I hope she is the only one eating it.
It all got baked so…
Exactly.
Who are you, the baking police?!
@@rhesas5476 So you wouldn't mind if you were eating at a restaurant & the chef did this?
Nice, easy and delicious. But when doing your videos, maybe don’t lick your fingers and then the food. Even if it’s just for your family, good hygiene please
