    Bonneville brougham 1979 301 2barrel, started everyday I had it paid 300$ back in 2007. Miss the car police impounded and auctioned it after a fraudulent domestic violence charge. I miss very much!

    Very cool 301 project! Love this build. I have a naturally aspirated aluminum headed 301 you might want to check out.

    Long ago had a '65 Vair with a '70 Eldo complete powertrain in the back seat.
    This was the late 80's an a guy showed me to put the trick 4-6-8 valve covers and rockers on my 500. With just a toggle switch it would go from 8 to 4 cylinders on demand. I only used it on the highway except for one time caught in L.A. traffic I used 4-mode to inch along.
    The Turbo 425 didn't shift right in 4 cylinder mode - it was highway only except for pulling it down into low + 4mode to keep from overheating.(long radiator hoses!)

    All these years later, and the Pontiac 301 peeks the interest to experiment. I wonder if Joe at TTA performance has seen this, he has been the only one to embrace this motor. Can you send this to him? I am so glad I found this video, but I would love to hear it run.

      the 301 is a great engine, it was just a little underwhelming in the big cars like the Grand Prix

    I wonder if the Buick superchargers from the 90's would also work for these builds, that might be another cheap source for parts since aftermarket units tend to be fairly expensive.

    Ray, you're making wish I kept my 80 Regal (first car!) with the small bore 265 variant of the short deck pontiac v8s. I always wanted a turbo t/a setup on there but for sure a blower is more appropriate.
    Are you using the 4 barrel 301 intake to mount the blower?

    I had an ‘81 with 301 Turbo, it was a boat anchor of a motor but I’m anxious to see what a supercharger would do! I did love that car, wish I’d never have sold it.
    By now it would have a supercharged 350 TPI, Borg-Warner T10, warmed over 700R4 and a full custom 3rd Gen interior.
    I know this because I had it all to put in my ‘91 Camaro, had to part that out which almost got me emotional. That car was so close, all I had left was brake lines, exhaust, paint & wiring.
    Looking forward to see the next phase of this motor, wanna see it run!

    • @number3665
      @number3665 4 месяца назад

      Honestly, I doubt it would be much better. He said the supercharger would be giving 8psi and well the stock turbo put out 9psi. SO it should have way better low end and no lag. But at the top it would similar I'd think.

    • @ryandubyah2345
      @ryandubyah2345 4 месяца назад

      @@number3665solid points you make here. I never actually checked the specs on the turbo so I figured it good for 5-6psi at most. I recognized the motor for what it was, did some research and I’d have been better to go with building a 305 TB motor than sticking with the 301 turbo.
      To me that says a lot, because those 305’s built are still boat anchors. Ultimately I’d have either gone with the 350TPI I bought for my ‘91 Camaro or I’d have tracked down a decent LS. I had access to a 454 at the time but it was in a bus rotting in a farm field. Either way I went would have been a better route than the 301.

      @@ryandubyah2345 Don't get me wrong. I know guys running in the 11s with the 301T engine. But they put some real time and money into working everything out. But if you don't have that know how and you don't have a bunch of money then you are better going with something different. My idea was taking the whole turbo setup off of a 301 and putting it on a 400 to see what it would do. Never got around to it though.

    Interesting video and now subscribed, what drive ratio and boost pressure is the 260?
    Asking as I have a Jag M112 s/c on a Rover 3.9l injection (bigger bore Buick 215) with a 1.5:1 drive ratio and make 5.5lb through a front mount intercooler.
    Its mounted on the side of the engine on its side, the car is a Triumph TR7 ( I know lol ) and it goes very well.
    Based on that little island called the United Kingdom and had a 78 301 Pontiac Grand prix SJ many years ago with a 4 bbl Qjet, still got the Qjet and had it fitted to the 4.0 with an adapter and it ran pretty good.

      @@raysoto1969 Thanks for the quick reply. I'm keeping an eye out for one of the Weiands. On the Eatons, you wouldn't happen to know if the snouts and if necessary, the impellers could be "flipped" over to put the snout on the other side would you? Thanks.

    • @raysoto1969
      @raysoto1969  Месяц назад

      @petlovergirll Physically, the snout and rotors can be flipped in the supercharger, but then the rotors will be spinning the wrong way, and the inlet & outlet will be incorrectly positioned for reverse rotation. The only practical solution would be to flip the entire supercharger upside-down, in which the outlet of the supercharger is facing up, which you would then need to route the intake runners up and over the supercharger.
