    Lyrics below:
As the rain, keeps pouring down on me
And the sky is the only thing I see
And my troubles are gone with the wind
It's just me, and the ground beneath my feet.
    I feel so alive
    Oh I feel so alive
    Oh I feel so alive
    Oh I feel so alive
As the rain, keeps falling down on me
And my shadow is the only thing I see
All my troubles are gone with the wind
It's just me, and the ground beneath my feet.
    I feel so alive
    Oh I feel so alive
    Bones to bones,
    they can bring their guns
I'm at, war with the world
There is, no where to run no
    Chest to chest,
You can, run if you want
I've come too far, oh I'm not gonna lose
    I feel so alive.
    I feel so alive
Oh I feel so alive (I feel so alive)
Oh I feel so alive (I feel so alive)
    Oh I feel so alive
    Oh I feel so alive
    Bones to bones,
    They can bring their guns
I'm at, war with the world
There is, no where to run no
    Chest to chest,
You can, run if you want
I've come too far, oh I'm not gonna lose
    I feel so alive.

It was a pleasure to work on this video, in large part because of the director, Josh Cole, who was deeply interested in authenticity - and this interest allowed for the voices of the Blackfeet people from there (including myself) to be heard in a way that adds so much to the video. Plus the song is just so damn good. Big props to everyone involved.

As a Native American, non natives don't know what life is like on the Reservations. It is hard! I loved this video! I loved everything about it. From him being on crack and getting in trouble to robbing a video renting store to his girlfriend overdosing and dying, he turned it all around and made it right by going to the Creator for helping his change his life around! Being one with the Creator and the Spirit inside him. Seeing him in the end, he was okay, because he was one with his religion. Loved the Blackfeet exposure. NATIVE AMERICANS ARE STILL HERE!! Life is hard but we get by the best way we can!

I really think that most of these people are missing the whole point of the video and song... Those of you bashing and saying that it's disrespecting and degrading our people, you're wrong. It's putting us out there. People are seeing us! Now they know. It's opening eyes to everyone! Why must you be so negative and close minded. I'm a young Native American, living on the Rez, wishing that this would open the eyes of your young people. Do you think it will? Our people need to be a little more open minded and see that this is a positive video, there is nothing wrong with it at all.

Navajo Indian signing in, and I have to give most massive respect to British artists Chase and Status for making this tune and this video. It's a big tune.
I am fortunate in that my family has been so far untouched by the scourge that is meth crossing the border, yet substances have had a role in my family and a role in me. I am fortunate in that, every day, I can join with others who are recovering from the disease of alcoholism and celebrate the fact I haven't drank that day.
As a graduate student of economics, I can accurately tell you that the long-term solution to the heroin epidemic plaguing our country right now is not imprisonment but rehabilitation.
To keep a potentially overall good person good you offer them a human hand, a hand of help and empathy, not a hand of punishment and scourge.
We know that the prison system in America doesn't work, that it creates mental illness and madness in addition to storing it.
Joe Biden and Ronald Reagan propagate these kinds of evil systems.
History will judge how you chose to help these people.
Addicts are people, too. Never go with a Strict Prohibitionist.

Okay, for everyone who has said "What does this video have anything to do with the song?" Well coming from someone who lives on this reservation (Blackfeet Rez in Browning, MT which is where this video is filmed) it's the sad truth. This reservation is crumbling before our eyes. And as shown in the video of a couple of young people smoking meth in an abandoned house, that is considered "the usual". Which it shouldn't be. No one wants to see their loved ones or friends have their lives taken over by drugs. There are a lot more drugs here than meth. But when the young man wakes up to find his girl dead beside him, that is when he feels more ALIVE than ever. He knows he has to change for the better. Turning his life around and looking for guidance. And he finally finds what his looking for, which is a way out of that kind of lifestyle.
People can learn ALOT from this video, especially people who knows what it's like to be physically dependent on such a cruel and ugly substance. To go from living on the streets, stealing from random houses to get their fix, and then all of a sudden realizing that they have more to life than that. There is a strong message in this video, a message in which we should live by! From my own personal experiences with this reservation, I believe the message is simply telling us to LIVE! To push aside all the negative and live your life to the fullest. No matter what people push upon you, you still have the ability to live your life the way it should be.

No matter the negative things are said about this video, I thank Chase & Status for wanting their music to be represented by such a story. I think this is a story that many in Native American and First Nation communities are deeply familiar with. It's a sad story that usually doesn't have a good ending. Through the inclusion of tribal spiritual practices, it shows that personal redemption is always something to strive for. The man committed many wrong in his life, and some of those wrongs weren't ready to forgive him, but he did the best he could. Thank you Chase & Status, you're music really brought this story to life.

I really resonated with those lyrics too. "I'm at war with the world, there is nowhere to run" Is how a lot of us Indigenous people feel. We feel isolated, stuck in a western society or stuck on reserves that don't have adequate support & resources in place. I feel isolation is something many indigenous folks face from the conversations I've had. I do a lot of public speaking on two spirit & indigenous culture & the conversations that arise after are powerful. I do my very best to walk this red path, to not give up on myself & my culture. I definitely cried a lot during this video lol it all hit me hard.

I would never have thought this UK group would have ended up on the Rez. But this video is very powerful in its meaning, and wish the younger generations would keep practicing traditions our tribes handed down. Keeping those stories alive and preserving your language is important in who we are as a Native people. Prosperity.

This video is so awesome. Its very rare to see Native Americans in a music video and these issues are real for us. These things are really happening on our reservations. Thank you so much Chase & Status for this beautiful song and for the touching video to go with it. I cried from the start. I feel so alive Hoka Hey!!!

Everytime I watch this video I cry. Its so moving, the parts when they show our ceremonies does not offend me. We are beautiful people with beautiful ceremonies. Its a new day and age, I believe that we were not meant to hide our ceremonies we only picked that up because there was a time our way of life was outlawed and our ceremonies not to be practiced. We don't have to hide anymore.

Damn. Just now seeing this in 2017. I'm part Native American from the Cree tribe. I have battled addiction myself. I have been clean for over two years now. Didn't allow myself to go to rehab. I defeated my addiction on my own. I had too much pride to have others help me crawl out of the hole I dug myself into. I doubt anyone will read this. But if by chance you are reading this, and are battling addiction yourself or have someone close to you that is, just know it will all be ok one day. Our creator has a plan for each and every one of us. Stay strong my fellow natives. Tomorrow is a new day :)

Coming from a person that loves music and music videos and to not have liked and loved a music video in a very long time, this music video is very heartfelt. I am from Browning, lived here all my life, I moved away a few times but came back home because home is always home. I am a Blackfeet full blood and to have this video be seen by the world is awesome because this is my community and yes there is people out here in my town doing this but who can say their town is perfect? People do not like it because of the ceremonies but it's in cinema already, there is a movie called the return of a man called horse, into the west shows a lot more than this. That movie was done with the help of native elders and so was this video, with the blessings of a society at that. So Mr. Josh Cole, Thank You for shooting the video on the Blackfeet Rez. A Rez that is one of many in Indian country. Thank you to the cast and crew, elders for showing the Blackfeet Nation to the eyes of thousands maybe millions so hit that share and like button for all Native Americans!

This is one of the best uses of short film I've seen in a long time. The dignity and the sadness is palpable. And the song and singer are perfect. Most people in America don't know what is going on many reservations. Suicide is twice that of the national average. And most of the suicides are teenagers. I hope this video causes some conversation and curiosity. The song of Passing Over into the Spirit World at the end with the one drum is chilling. Awesome work by everybody!

This is a reserve not far from mine. I pass through here every now and then. This video really shows what its like being a First nations person living on reserve. It shows the struggles we face, and despite the stereotypes and the racism we must face everyday, we still manage to hold on to the traditions and values that our ancestors thousands of years ago believed in. Despite all that we've gone through in the past centuries we still manage to strive.

Our people need something to feel pride in and relate to that give us a positive Idenity for everyone, mostly ourselves. These events are occouring on reservations across Canada, So many women go missing and so many men are addicted to things. We are struggling if someone doesnt take a chance and try something that meets the old school with the new school nothing will ever get done. An elder told me the kids arent paying attention to their cutlure and who they are as First Nations any more. Saying "The old way isnt working we need to find a new way". I stand by any decision or movement that encourages Native People to better their lives. This video probably touched alot of people.

Drum & bass is my favourite music, and a great modern music to expose human and musical themes through. As an American Indian I think this to be a beautiful video and a beautiful way to tell a story.
As far as showing the Sun Dance goes, unfortunately the cat is out of the bag and it's been shown on video before, but people who watch this video are getting a positive spiritual message out of it instead of a merely commercial one like the products of, say, a mister Dan Snyder...
I think natives agree that the point of dance is to raise the spirit. Drum & bass fans certainly dance by that ethic. I know I do.

I have been using this video in my high school Ethnic Studies courses for the past 8 years, and it has probably saved many lives. I connect it to the Nahui Ollín that is taught by the XITO educators of Tucson, who had their Mexican American Studies Program banned for about 8 years and are now rebuilding it after years in court. I see the connection between our U.S. Indigenous sisters and brothers and my people to the South who are fleeing the disaster this country has created in Mexico and Central America for the purpose of spreading drugs across the Americas in an effort to keep us all under their control. I get chills each time I watch it, and I've seen it well over a thousand times. As an educator, I see the absolute power in this and other efforts to uplift our Indigeneity across the Americas. We must all stand strong and become united if we are to rise above the horrors of the past 500+ years and confront the next 7 generations.

I am 12 years old, and I may not seem like a proud BlackFeet, but in this time of age our people and many other tribes have lost their ways. We have lost in touch with our culture but many try to survive these dark times, with meth and many horrible drugs. But I'm proud my aunt and my uncles are in this. The ranch is my uncle Larrie's ranch, Larry Ground. and the woman getting robbed my aunt An Meran. And the rest is my uncles.

  • @MsDemonism

I know that sundance is very sacred. My family used to run the sundance in my native community a couple generations ago. There is a lot of ignorance of the plight of Native people. I like the fact that there is a more modern interpretation of nativev people. Our communities need healing and recognition. I like seeing real native people as the actors. We need to embrace all people and to welcome them into the lives we live. To crush ignorance. To bring ourselves alive again. So I support chase and status coming into the community and shooting the music video. It represents the struggle and healing and beauty of First Nations people.

There is a way of bringing attention to the many ills suffered by those unfortunate enough to have to try and survive on the reservations, but this is not it.
To me, this is nothing more than low grade exploitation. For a tribal leader to supposedly have given their stamp of approval shows why the reservations are in such miserable conditions they are in.

    • @MsDemonism
      @MsDemonism 10 лет назад +1

I disagree. This is one way of many ways to do it.

    • @NESalMonella
      @NESalMonella 10 лет назад

Many ways to do what? Exploit our culture and heritage?
I think the weak and ineffective leaders we have in place now today are contributing to our demise that is obvious by them giving permission to shoot this poorly communicative video.

    • @MsDemonism
      @MsDemonism 10 лет назад +1

I don't see how it is "exploiting" our culture. I say we were exploited when We had all of our land taken through treaties. Or when we were given blankets full of smnallpox. Or given alcohol when we were trading and negotiating. That is exploiting. But creating a story and sharing a story I do not feel is exploitation. Esp when there is consent. No one was forced into the creation of the story. smh. Crabs in the bucket syndrome.

    • @NESalMonella
      @NESalMonella 10 лет назад

Not sure what your final sentence is referring to but I will address the remainder of your comment.
First I feel it is highly exploitative to not have had the permission of ALL tribal leaders from tribes who perform the Sundance as you can see it's relevance and importance is different to each tribe. For one set of tribal elders or representatives to give permission and none other are given an opportunity to speak their minds might have been premature.
I say this as I just was made aware of a statement that was released in 2002 by the present keeper of our sacred Buffalo Calf Pipe in which he named himself and each individual involved in the possession of all that is involved with this pipe as well as the location of said pipe bundle. What this person did is certainly NOT permitted in any situation whatsoever and it goes against all that is sacred within our tribe. This information has NEVER before been released to the general public and goes against all that is sacred to our tribe.
So perhaps we are now living under a different set of circumstances and all of this private information is now supposed to be made public. When my Unci was alive (she was one of the last traditional Sioux women) things were the total opposite of what is happening today. To me and many other people, when you change things like this that are sacred and have significance to the existence and survival of our people, you place in motion a set of events that signal a time of great upheaval in the world. One might even say that this would be a signal of the end of the world.
Perhaps I am living in a time when traditions truly were sacred and significant and were necessary for our survival. Now with the arrival of a new generation of Lakota people, these practices and ceremonies seem to be placed aside in favor of a more public spectacle instead of a highly spiritual ceremony. Even the release of Sundance songs was forbidden and no one would ever dare to go against these centuries old traditions and beliefs. To do so years ago was to bring certain and severe tragedy onto that persons life.
Why these things would change so drastically within a course of 50 years is really not acceptable. I question the motives of the keeper of the pipe and wonder what is behind his actions. I know that my family is in line to be a part of pipe keepers so it would only seem to be within reason that if things were to have been changed so drastically that my family would have been notified or would even have been party to these changes.
I don't know any more. In looking at other cultures, when things like this changed so drastically it meant a total breakdown and disappearance of that culture. In looking at how our people are behaving and what is important to them today, this is what seems to be happening to the Lakota culture. The time seems to have come where the white man has finally been successful at removing all that was sacred to us. Once they took control of our lands it was only a matter of time before the demise of our way of life.
Look at what is happening to our younger people today. Our language is disappearing, our traditions are being torn apart and our spirituality is slowly being erased as well. In under a hundred years, there will be no more full blooded Lakotans. The land which was once ours will be sold to the highest bidder and our distinction according to the white man will no longer be around. In other words, assimilation into the white mans world will be complete and what was began years ago with the arrival of the blonde hair blue eyed people first arrived on the plains. When first advised of their arrival, a chief looked around at the then empty beautiful plains and said this is the beginning of the end.
And that is where we are today.

I use this video to educate my high school students as an Indigenous Support Worker who helps teachers , this video speaks to so much one the struggle of our youth, two the power of ceremony, three the need for elders in our lives and four individual strength it takes to be able to heal one's self , this is all apart of who we are as people and I give the most respect to Chase and Status for going out and seeking that knowledge to be able to make this song and video possible, sincerely Nimkii Kwe ( Thunder Woman) from the Anishnawbek Nation in Kanata

Dear Chase and Status , I admire the time it took to work with the people to show the world the truths of what the people are faced with I have read the controversy and I am proud that you have shown the realities of life, I am an Anishnawbe kwe ( FIRST NATIONS WOMAN)from Ontario my nation is Ojibway , life for some is exactly what you have shown and there will always be critics where there is demonstration of ceremony , the teaching I have is, TO KEEP IT SHORT, cermonies, is the path that will heal people from the paths of violence and substance abuse and self destruction, anyone who can not see the true felt intent of why you have created this may not ever understand , but the people of the Anishnawbek nation some will feel honoured you have created this , Miigwetch, Thank You, Merci THERE IS HOPE, IF YOUR INTENTIONS ARE GOOD THAT ALL THAT MATTERS
