Ahh ok! That makes sense. A few cases in and Will has already almost lost his mind 😭
Spoiler alert there isn’t Clarice Starling. There is a bit of “silence of the Lambs” but the show takes inperasion from ’man hunter’ which is the original movie of ‘red dragon’ and ‘Hannibal’. The show does it own thing and use the books to create the show and characters.
There was a plan for Clarice and Silence of the Lambs in Season 5, I believe. But alas, the show got cancelled + they never got the rights.

Also, Abigail DID INDEED gut Nicholas Boyle like a deer. It doesn't appear like she did all that clearly in that scene, but she stabs him, twists and moves the knife up his stomach, so Hannibal wasn't exaggerating just to manipulate her. To anybody else, his injuries would look excessive for a self- defense claim.
Fun Fact:
In a deleted scene that you can see in the script, Hannibal was actually trying to replace the memories of Abigail's parents of that day with him and Will near the end of the ep, not Alana. Hannibal wanted her to see them as her new fathers/guardians.

So excited to find new reactors to my favorite show of all time! Especially since you guys seem to really "get it" and aren't as confused as some reactors seem to be at first. You seem to really be enjoying it, and it only gets better and better as the show goes on. You have so much to look forward to. This show is so layered and complex the further you get into it. Enjoy!

I'm pretty sure the book Red Dragon takes place years, possibly even a decade, before Silence of the Lambs. Will Graham is the main character in that book. This show is more or less about the period referenced in the book when they worked together before Hannibal was arrested. Bryan Fuller decided to write Will and Hannibal building a relationship, and working together. He took elements from all of the books and mixed them up, so it's not really a one to one translation of book to screen, there are characters and events that are from the books but they got expanded or shuffled around, or they happen/appear in a different context etc.
The boys always bothered me, how they get treated in the show, like, they are kidnapped by this lady who clearly is cool with killing them if they don't obey her every word, and they're kids. They are not responsible for being forced to kill. Even the oldest kid was young when he was taken.
Oh yeah, I forgot there were books too! That makes total sense. And yeah this episode was kinda sad when you think about it, along with episode 5
This show takes place years before Silence of the Lambs, remember Hannibal was in prison in that movie so he hasnt even been caught yet, he's just out causing mischief and doing his thing and no one even knows how bad he is

Ep4 is Oeuf, literally just the French word for egg. For course meal, this is just what they call the dishes made from egg.
The only ep in season 1 i know how to pronounce😅 It's pronounced like "love" w/o the "L".
On an almost unrelated note, the reason they call the score 0 "love" in tennis is because 0 looks like an egg and l'oeuf (pronounced the same as love) means "the egg" in French. It's how I know the pronounciation for this ep😂

I'm pretty sure that was because the theme was kids killing kids, and there had just been a shooting in real life. It wasn't banned, they just decided it wasn't really tasteful at that moment.
4 & 5 are the worst episodes of the show, so im glad your enjoying it.
5 was more sad than anything. But it was a cool change of pace. We're watching 6 today 🔥
