Fantastic topic! Collecting brings personal joy. I accept that when I am gone, the chances are small that someone will buy my collections with the same passion and appreciation as I had. Therefore, I automatically assume the best likely price is spot for my semi-numismatic and collectables, and melt price for my circulated coins. I hope that when my family or I sell, that spot price is higher than the original premium price I paid. @Austrian Stacker; please send your new Austrian Collector sticker when they arrive.🤣

Hello. New stacker, here. Thank you for sharing some of your collection, and for the interesting question about potential sale of such lovely and relatively pricey pieces. Who would buy it? I am just at 2 years of stacking and recently found myself gravitating towards vintage silver bars, mostly 1toz each but WOW it adds up fast--the stack and the premiums. There is one coin shop about 30min from me who appears to buy and sell a lot of vintage and art, high premium bars, rounds, coins. If I ever needed to sell, they seem like a viable place. I say buy and trade within your means especially if it makes you happy and would continue to bring some kind of happiness for a long time, unless you like selling, flipping bullion too. Trading is fun, too. As for generational differences in collecting and stacking, general numismatic interests, I can speak only about what I know in the USA particularly in the Midwest. The Costo phenomenon is still kind of new and interesting to me, as I am not a Costco member but have considered it recently, simply for the bullion deals they have. My gut tells me that there will always be collectors and stackers. I will have a lot more to share about collecting and selling after this year's ANA World Fair of Money conference in Rosemont, IL, USA, August 6-10. Anyone else going? Stack on!

Hello "New Stacker"! Thanks for watching my video. I am glad you liked it. One of the most interesting things is how different the precious metal, coin and bullion markets are. One example: We don't have silver rounds (I wish we would because I love US silver rounds). We just have coins with a face value because silver with a weight of 1oz and more would have to be hallmarked. We collect totally different coins than you in the US. Sorry to say but nobody cares about superhero coins here. You would never ever get more than spot for high premium superhero coins. Also we have VAT on silver. That makes silver even less attractive for a lot of people. I imported most of my silver from Estonia which was the last EU country without VAT on silver but that's also over. I wish you all the best for your stacking journey. Please keep me and the community posted. :) Greetings from AUSTRIA!

This is a concern for those who actually do want to sell and realize a return one day. Selling collectibles is difficult even when you buy the right coins but almost a guaranteed loss if you choose poorly, and there’s a lot of crap out that that won’t hold its value. I’ve already started liquidating the coins I don’t want from my collection and that’s working out pretty well for me, I’d say don’t wait, turn and burn as quickly as possible and put that money back to something you can feel confident about! Maybe I’ll do a little follow up on this topic in my next video if I ever get around to making more content lol I know the struggle well. Thanks AS!

@AustrianStacker I completely understand regarding wanting to sell some of your collection.
As a collector and as a Stacker, sometimes we get tired of certain things we have, or we're simply are over the excitement and the joy of a particular part of our collection initially gave us and we feel it's time to move on in a different direction so we sell something and put that money towards something new and shiny.
The coin show was great, I always look forward to them.

I don't have the resources most have as I am on disability and a fixed income. I started stacking about 2 years ago now. Since then I have found myself not buying a tube of this or multiples of that, but rather one or two of these and one or two of those, simply because I don't have that particular round or bar. Admitting we have a problem is supposedly the first step to the cure, but I'm fine with having this affliction. LMAO! Ultimately, you do what makes you happy my friend. Hello. Interesting topic. I have the same opinion about it. Collecting and Investing are different disciplines, and the market price is determined a lot by the popularity of the focus, which can change significantly over the decades. High prices for collectibles already at the time of acquisition are, in my opinion, an investment risk. I think that profit is made when buying - expecting a high appreciation in the future smacks of speculation. Take my comment with a grain of salt, I'm a big fan of yours. Have a great day.

Most collector silver is speculation and even those coins which present a return on inwestment, mostly present that return in the medium term, whilst the item is hot. Look at queen's beasts prices now, the yield is inexorably falling towards spot. Anyway, so what are numismatics? A fun diversion that you can justify as cost of living. Same can be said for the premiums I'm paying on BU products like Czech like n 'investment' gold and silver. Or backdating my Lunar gold and platinum. I know it's silly, but I don't have any other lifestyle expenses, so whatever, at least my stack is pleasing to the eye. And who knows, maybe the focus on series three Lunars and Czech lions, will pay off thanks to limited mintages and continued collector value.

I also don't see the point in 1 Oz collectible coins. If their value drops back to spot, they just an expensive box and an object too small to display. So when I get numismatics, I prefer larger pieces or at least items that are beautiful objects. Like I stopped getting the high premium 2 ounce Czech luon n and have opted to collect the five ounce instead. At least you could display that on your mantelpiece one day you know, because it's a larger object, you can see the design better and its size gives it more presence. Where as a miniscule thing with a train on it, it's superfluous to that dual purpose, it's only appeal us as a collector coin. So I'm getting bugger sizes and always opt for beautiful things above the nerdy and niche. I didn't even continue collecting the Perth Mint one ounce gilded and rotating charm this year, such is my commitment to this reevaluatuon of what I purchase.

@@AustrianStacker My spreadsheets have a built in conversion of my costs to today's dollars using a table of CPI data, which is updated annually. For example, in 1973 I bought a $10 Olympic coin containing 1.44 ounces of silver at the bank for the face value of CDN$10. Today that 1.44 ounces is worth CDN$57.95. Many would say they made CDN$47.95, (the government would say that). But when that $10 is converted to today's devalued currency, it is CDN$57.10. The real profit is CDN$0.85 if you can get spot. Bullion dealers here currently pay about 97% of spot and coin dealers even less. My silver coin collection evaluated as bullion silver has risen 58.43% over what I paid but when inflation is considered, the increase is only 14.80%. At least it has kept up with inflation. On the other hand, my gold coin collection evaluated the same way has increased 80.38%, raw profit and 53.95% actual profit. Beating inflation enough to be considered an investment, though my motivation has been the fun of collecting.

@@CarPhotos Sorry but that’s a market for a generation that just exists to create social media content. I will definitely not follow that trend. 😆

I think Gen Z still collects, but different things. I think moving into precious metals happens later in life for most people. I reckon the same thing will happen with the next generation too. I’ll probably sell back to a bullion dealer in 20 years, who will turn on sell to the next generation of collectors.
