Scotty Kilmer's SHOCKING Rotary Misinformation

- Watch a Scotty Kilmer video wtih me and actually learn something! It is SHOCKING what a mechanic of 56 years doesn't know about the rotary engine, and you should be SHOCKED to learn nearly everything he says is wrong!
From the comments:
1. The "weird engine" is a LiquidPiston rotary engine. Had never seen one until it was pointed out to me. Still dumb to show it in a Mazda Rotary video.
2. The airplane "rotary" refers to the style of radial piston engine where the pistons and crankshaft are stationary and the crankcase rotates. I've always heard those referred to as "radial" engines but terms and vocabulary can vary.
The mention of piston rotary is actually correct, the first rotary engines had a fixed crank & rotating cylinders/crankcase with the propeller mounted to it. It was done to give it maximum inertia (flywheel effect) to compensate the total lack of torque. Prime example is the ''Le Rhône'' french rotary used in ww1.
It is such a common mistake I just assumed he made it, because I've personally not heard of those engines referred to as "rotary", only "radial". But I will give him one point on that one, and subtract one from myself.
@@aaroncake Never though I would concede a point to coked out granpa scotty...
@@BeaverLakeMotorsports Haha! I just updated the description with this info, and the LiquidPiston mention as well.
A radial engine has the cylinders mounted radially like an original rotary engine but the cylinders don't move. So the two are different.@@aaroncake
I learned something!
Scotty Kilmer's just an old man that yells at clouds.
And people actually listen to him, for some reason.
Old Man Yells At Cloud! Brilliant.
Tend to agree with that comment, just can you can shout doesn't mean you're correct!
When it comes to things like car maintenance he's usually pretty good even if very old school
But on these videos I have no idea what got into his head
@@JVChesterWell, it tends to work for politicians.
@@aaroncake Yep, very true both sides of the pond.
57 minute roasting! I get so tired of hearing the typical rotary misinformation. Glad you made this video
I generally don't watch rotary RUclips videos for this reason. Except I took the bait on this one.
Thank you for calling this guy out, I’m getting tired of him. He is shade tree shady. I have been following you for like a decade!
Haha! Thanks! I might do some more of these as long as they don't just become repeats.
Wow an entire decade? Must feel cool to have witnessed @Aaroncake upload his last four videos 😂
@@magnuswf are you sharing your 100% restoration project online while working. It may not be what most want but his videos of restoring his car are really good and helpful.
Do yourself a favor and just set Scotty to do not recommend.
Hope you've been well Aaron.
I've actually been ignoring his videos for a while. Then I took the bait because I saw "Mazda rotary". 30 seconds into it I was thinking "This is a parody, right?".
facts
Why? when you can every once in a while know what crazy looks like.
Scotty Kilmer is the National Inquirer of automotive information.
Kilmer = clickbait
It's worse than that. He's on multiple occasions recommended extremely dangerous stuff. He's bound to get people hurt or killed at some point.
More of a clown..
God I hate Scotty Kilmer.
With a passion
I don't hate anyone I hope Scotty does a video admitting all the things he got wrong and why
Never did like Scotty, dude has been shady af and full of misinformation since day one.
I never heard such a great, in your face, sober, real as it can get review of Scottys video on rotary engines. Mis-information is definitely one of his attributes. Great video!!!
Thank you!
Rob Dahm has the 12 rotor now.
Found your channel through Dirty Garage Guy (Matt from the Workshop). He has done a few videos on Scotty Kilmers rubbish. Kilmer even did a video on using DIY compression fittings to make brake lines even though the packets for the fittings say on the front "Not for use in brake systems"
That's just irresponsible and clearly shows that he is simply not ignorant, but actively malicious. I enjoy Matts HDS videos, which kind of inspired me to make this one. Matt does it better, though.
@@aaroncake Matt has got the knack for it. I mean, he is the trollmeister general. As a side note I really like what you are doing with the Mazda, I am by no means a car guy but I always did like the Look of those cars. I keep toying with the idea of messing with the Dash on my Bike I am trying to restore, however I fear I do not have the same abilities as you and would therefore wreck it.
WOW, I have watched Scotty Kilmer videos before and had a few WTF????? moments myself and I am NOT a car tech guy by any means but this one takes the cake. He must have been hitting the Tenn Moonshine when he made that video.
Scotty is almost a joke in the automotive tech youtube sphere (you probably already knew that). I set him to do not recommend years ago. He games the algorithm by doing stuff like this. Just look at his description and you'll get an idea of what i mean.
Also, hitting left or right arrow keys when on YT will skip forward/backward 5 seconds. Really useful for re-watching a part of the video.
Can't wait to see the Cosmo finished! :D
The left-right arrow trick has changed my life.
I love everything to do with cars, so it's impossible for me to listen to a video by old grandpa Scotty. Thanks for showing exactly what crap he can say in these videos. keep up the good work. can't wait to see the next stage of your project! Shake and Bake !!
Wasn’t Rob Dahm putting together a 12 rotor recently? Great vid, Aaron!
Yup. The one in SK's video. Tyson Garvin's boat engine.
@@aserta ohhhh… cool! I didn’t realise
funny enough scotty mentions the 12 rotor was "new" it was actually completed way back in 07 or 08.
yes he took it over to improve it
More accurately Rob purchased a custom 12 Rotor engine built by another man, designed for Tractor Pull applications. Rob is to make some improvements or something and get it running again.
I stopped watching him years ago when he was not only wrong about details about a GM engine I was very familiar with but the info would actually damage the engine. Not could damage it WOULD damage the engine. I don't know how anyone that's certified hasn't called out his misinformation.
That's the worst part about this stuff. It could actually lead to someone damaging their engine or hurting themselves. I mean seriously, recommending someone mix 20W50 with E85 and dumping it into their fuel tank?!? I mean, he must know what he is saying is wrong, he just doesn't care and has no concern for the people who follow his "advice". It is entirely possible people have called him out yet he simply deleted the comments. I watch a bike building channel for entertainment, and he deletes any comments that point out his mistakes or disagree.
@@aaroncakei guess he deleted you comment as well by now.
I really hate that. I can count on one hand the number of comments I've deleted over the lift of my channel and those only because they were obvious scams or spam. There were corrections to this video people posted. Deleting them is cowardly and means no one learns.
Scotty clickbait aka scotty celica? I get tired of his videos. He was entertaining in the beginning but he gets old
Old man scotty is 95% times wrong. Knows his corollas from 90's and thats it.
I shouldn’t worry, no one who actually knows about cars watches Kilmer’s channel. It’s just comedy that’s worn a bit thin.
Comedy that has worn thin...like this video! ;-)
I used to LOVE Scotty’s videos back when he used to do step by step videos like “how to diagnose an overheating car” that video is pure chefs kiss.
But years ago someone in the comments mentioned how as soon as Scotty got to 1 million subscribers he got real lazy, and started making nothing but clickbait. It’s 100% true. And it’s soooo sad to see. I try and comment on his vids every now and then when I get there early to try and tell him to knock it off and get back to the good ol days
That's too bad. I've seen that with other channels I used to watch. As soon as they are big enough to game the algorithm, they start pumping out crap because they know they will get the views and revenue regardless. Meanwhile the quality content is buried.
@@aaroncakedude every video he does has 1 of 3 or 4 different titles, most of the time it’s pure clickbait. The other times he talks about the thumbnail for 20 seconds and then answers random questions for the other 9 minutes and 40 seconds because he know RUclips promotes 10 minute clips. Seriously go check out his videos, most are 10:01, it’s hilarious.
Also, if you do hear something you like or want to bookmark it’s impossible to remember the specific video because of the classification he uses
How many times has he said “this is the last video” or “I’m retiring”. FFS I wish he would actually do what he clickbaits us with. What applies to a 25 year old Lexus does not apply to the majority of the audience’s cars……
I did notice that! Almost all of his videos are right around 10 minutes!
i deleted scotty kilmer a long time ago he talked to much crap about hondas and used paid advertisement on youtube to get his channel out there.
Scotty Kilmer is a total knob. Nobody who has ever turned a wrench for a living gives that guy a second thought, but sadly he mostly appeals to folks who don't know any better. He sucks them in with clickbait, and spews out garbage mixed in with *just* enough truth to make him sound credible.
Thanks for calling him out, Aaron. Hope you're doing well. Be safe, man!
And that's the problem. People believe him because it sounds like he knows what he's talking about. Then build brake lines with compression fittings (as other comments have pointed out) or dump 20W50 into their fuel tanks.
Ugh, I know...so much horsesh*t that Biff Tannen would be terrified of the guy. 😂
Another unfortunate fact is that even though we all know it's garbage information, views are views, comments tickle the algorithm (whether good or bad), and he's making money just the same...and he knows it. I almost think he enjoys putting out this crap just to make people rage comment on his videos since he knows it will inevitably make him more money from ad revenue.
Me hoping for updadtes on the COSMO. Love your work! Cant wait to see the next cosmo video!
I was sick most of January with COVID-19 and recovering for a good chunk of February so unfortunately not much work has been done on the Cosmo lately. Only really got back to it last weekend.
Speaking of youtuber interaction, it would be fun to see you do an episode with Rob dahm
I don't know if that would work. We live in two different worlds.
My god Aaron, i don't know how i I missed this video. Pure gold!
The strange engine shown in the 3D animations is the liquidpiston rotary engine.
came here to help clarify. The LP rotary style engine is a reverse geometry version of the Wankel, making the rotor the epitrochoid shape and the housing the triangular shape.
Yeah, I hadn't seen that until someone else pointed it out. Weird that he kept showing it in a video about Mazda rotarys.
@@aaroncake Right! because Scotty is just a tool, and not even a useful one 🤦🏻♂️😆
Don't worry, he's off base about a plethora of vehicles.

Hello,
Thanks for the video.
That man is full of lies and do bad press to a lot of brand and tech…

Greetings from France :)
You should change the description, it's shocking what a mechanic of 56 years doesn't know about most anything, most of his videos are trash and are full of falsehoods and inaccuracies.
Probably only thing he is exceptionally good at is getting views on youtube.
You missed the part that he doesn’t have 5 million subs because he’s a genius, it’s more for the WTF factor.
9:00 Scotty's talking about a so-called "radial rotary" - a radial engine, but where the entire engine rotates while the crankshaft is held stationary, rather than the more common format of stationary cylinders and a spinning crank protruding from the centre. I believe there was a FWD motorcycle at one point using this layout, with the engine securely bolted to the front wheel - the axle/crankshaft was bolted solidly to the forks, and the entire engine spun with the wheel. And yes, that means the engine had to be shut down if you stopped.
PS: Note - that original rotary format was indeed simply called a "rotary" back in the day, as there was no other sort it needed to differentiate from. But today, as it's obviously a completely different design, there is a need to clarify with a more specific term. I guess Scotty didn't understand that the designs and their principles of operation are worlds apart.
That motorcycle sounds properly terrifying. Oil spitting out of all the exhausts coming from the front wheel, the panic when one realizes they need to stop...
@@aaroncake That motorcycle was called the Megola, made in Germany in the1920's.
I believe Jay Leno has one.

Never saw a video of him where he gave a correct information…
Rob Dahm (rotary fanatic) has the 12 rotor referenced in this video. He has posted multiple videos on his channel showing the disassembly, inner workings, and rebuild. He is now even designing and machining cnc rotary components. Aaron you and Rob are my favorite rotary guys and I have been hoping to see you cross paths some day. Hurt, you're not far either lol.
I've seen a few of Kilmer's videos and often think he's just talking out his ass for the views, he has a tendency to mix fact and bullshit to the point you can hardly tell which is which.
And that's the problem. Mixing truths in with misinformation is very dangerous because it gives the misinformation clout and muddies the waters.
I was about to comment with rage about how you shoved that Kilmer Krap back into my feed, but then I watched for just 30 seconds and realised this was going to be great.
So I grabbed the virtual popcorn (couldn’t be bothered getting out of bed) and turned up the volume. The roasting was glorious. Factual, with a clear dose of personal rotary passion sprinkled over the top. Sarcasm in a way only Aaron can do it - intelligent ant witty. I loved it. Great video, and I learnt some good rotary facts along the way too. My wife was puzzled as to why I was fist-pumping the air and saying “yes, awesome, you got him again” thinking I was watching a fishing or fighting video. Not often I have a physical reaction to a RUclips video😂
Now I’m hankering for some more Cosmo vids - but I know that real people have a career, a family, and a home to take care of. Cars are hobbies, and take years to complete. I’d rather watch real people like Aaron, doing great work, than “careertubers” who post copious amounts of rubbish with very little reality (or facts).
Now I just have to make sure SK is still “not recommended” and the algorithm stays true.
Keep up the great work Aaron. Your videos are appreciated down under.
Haha, thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it because I knew it would be a love/hate thing. If I do another, it will be better.
I was sick with COVID-19 for most of January, recovering into February and in some ways still recovering so it really slowed down work on the Cosmo. Gave me time to edit this.
Even a second hand Kilmer video is cringe. Thanks for the video this was satisfying to watch.
Most of Scottys videos contains about as much facts as any of the great encabulator commercials, except they contain a lot more "side fumbling".... Be interesting to see when Rob starts to get that 12 rotor monster back to life. :-)
Kilmer only makes click bait videos. Don't expect any kind of satisfaction or edification from watching his vids
So many low-effort "discovery channel" style YT channels with fancy graphics and very few facts. Atrocious lack of basic research. Crazy high subs and views. Sadly they get paid and its very unfortunate about the sheer amount of misinformation they spread.
Yeah and it's becoming so bad if I see a video with what I consider excessive views I most likely won't watch it, I find myself clicking on videos with lower view counts
I miss the good Discovery Channel from 20+ years ago.
Rob Dahm has been working on that 12 rotor. Still in progress I believe.
I hate that guy. He's gonna get someone killed with his practice of telling people not to use Jack stands or using compression fittings on brake lines. I remember the one video where he said not to worry about the jack stands because the car is high enough that it will just bounce on your chest and not hurt you. Both videos got deleted, but I'm sure he's made other ones. He's mentally sick, and it seems like every one of his videos he's been a professional mechanic for a different number of years. If that's the type of stuff he did as a "professional," I don't see how he kept his ase that he probably never got in the first place. Hack. I think he should be banned from RUclips
IT WILL BOUNCE ON YOUR CHEST?! I've had a car on my chest and it most certainly does not. If you could see my face right now I am actually SHOCKED.
@@aaroncake that's exactly what he said. I watched it happen to a neighbor when his jackstand failed. It didn't bounce on his chest. He's lucky to be alive. Kilmer is a dangerous hack.
Theres so much misinformation about rotaries out there. If I see a video I usually dont bother clicking on it
Neither do I. This one I took the bait. I have another in my watch later (not from Scotty) that is titled "Why You Shouldn't Port Your Mazda Rotary" that I am working up courage to watch.
That seemingly air-cooled "rotary" engine model depicted by Scotty is actually the Liquid Piston rotary design that's still in development in New England. It shows lots of promise, but has yet to deliver beyond anything bigger than say, a lawnmower. But yeah, lots of rotary misconceptions by Scotty here. I've seen lots of carbon-clogged and immovable side seals in my tear-downs - but no carboned rotor housing surfaces.
When I watched that video I laughed so hard I shat a lung.
My love with Scotty died when I sold my 97 celica...
Rob Dahm has that 12 rotor now and has some videos on it. You can actually change the position of the lobes on the eccentric shafts as they are splined in sections. Very cool engine
Didn't know about the splined shafts. That is rather cool. I will have to check out the videos...I just tried to watch Rob's videos in the past and they weren't for me.
IIRC, Rob has said that the rotors that came in the engine vary a few thousands of an inch. Hardly a variable width rotor!
@@aaroncake I cant really stand his videos to be honest either, but that 12 rotor is really interesting. I hope they do get it working and someoine uses it in something
From the pictures in the RX-7 Forum thread they appeared to be Mazda rotors. Which naturally do vary a bit due to manufacturing tolerances. There actually are instructions in the FSM to check rotor side clearances. Clearancing rotor sides is also a popular mod for really high HP/RPM applications.
Kilmer is a joke.
Most of what he is saying in any topic is BS.
And I can not tolerate his voice.
I don't know if it has been mentioned(Edit: it has but whatever ) the similar looking rotary engine is called the Liquid Piston Engine they are based in Bloomfield, CT.
To your point I just saw a video on a Brand New, NEVER seen before "sleeve" valve engine design... Yea internet.
To me, of you disregard the tapping noise, it sounded like it still ran fine when you turned it off. Re-time it and your fine💪
At this point, im not sure if Scotty is demented or its some sort of sophisticated long con of rage bait videos.
Im tired of seeing Scotty's Shillmers clickbait crap anytime I search anything remotely car related
I'm seeing it more and more, which is how I think I ended up with this video in my recommendations. Strange, because this was the only one I watched.
@@aaroncake I'm pretty sure he formats his videos/thumbnails in a way that suits RUclipss algorithm

One day I hope to see an RE5 in person. Or maybe even own one when my projects list is much shorter.
@@aaroncake there amazing bikes just miss understood parts can be hard to find like the spark plug it's no longer available you have to get a adapter to fit a Yamaha R1 plug to them. Mines blue with metal flake and white stripes it has 30k miles on it she's well used definitely not show room quality she was a rust belt bike before I got her a few years back but she's got a permanent home with me now I got her from the original owner I get a lot of looks when I'm out with her and questions all the time because most don't even know what it is. They only made a little over 6000 of them so there super rare.
That sounds great. A driver is the best kind of have anyway because, you know, you can actually drive it. Had no idea about the spark plug issue.
@@aaroncake yeah the only company that made the plug was ngk and nothing else used them and when they didn't hit with people and the rotary project was cancelled they stopped making them which is a shame but the original plugs lasted about 400 to 500 miles is all I've always wished the Rx7 plug would have fit because it was a rotary plug so I didn't need the adapter. Unlike Mazda there's only one plug for the single rotor instead of 2 per rotor to help with a complete burn. But I really do hope you can find one of these bikes they are totally worth it.

I think I remember Australian company Adaptronic being involved in developing the engine management system for the 12 rotor Wankel engine.

@@aaroncake yea i talked to him through the comments for several weeks about it before he eventually took the video down, but the dude gives out so much dangerous misinformation its crazy.
You sir just got you're self blocked from killer's channel The bigger hack the bigger the fallowing go figure
Aaron, would you care to comment on the recent range extender rotary design, in relation to all the learnings over time that have taken place. Is it incorporating all the goodies or skimping something - putting efficiency and reliability at risk?
I haven't been following it in detail so I only know the basics. It seems to me a good design for what it is. I would assume that Mazda has chosen their port timing with a narrow RPM range in mind. This will give them the ability to eliminate overlap as compared to previous rotary designs. I don't think they've changed the fundamental dimensions? As in, the rotor is still 80MM wide and the housings are 13B dimensions but please don't quote me on that. Quick Googling hasn't been able to give me the answer. What is most interesting is the single spark plug. Clearly by going to direct injection they are able to avoid the trapped hydrocarbons on the trailing edge of the chamber via precise injection timing. They have also gone to 2 oil injectors per housing as per the later Renesis. No longer mixing any oil with the intake air stream. Plus if their port timing is constrained to a particular RPM range, they can shape the ports so any trailing hydrocarbons just pass by the port. I wonder how long term they will be able to keep the noise down. As a vehicle in general, well, it seems like a really weird concept.
I enjoyed this video. Love the passion.
Thanks, I appreciate that. I was fighting a headache when I recorded this. I think near the end I was just about out of energy.
for my neckar jagst (only rotary one in the world)
I just use a random 2 stroke oil
it is a carb engine and made for a 1:50 mix

Yep. Any two stroke oil works fine, honestly even with fuel injection.

Scotty 🤡 Kilmer
When Re we going to see more videos, been watching you for a millennium 😉
scotty clickbait's and shills all them amazon link products....
I don't know where that man got his knowledge from, but he is talking out of his head on so many points, and as for the 12 rotor, it has been running but has never been in the racing boat, and is now in the hands of Rob Dahm who has modified the housing for more cooling and better oil flow for lubrication, and he has improved the side plates where the seal of the rotor runs, and is now working on an improved intake manifold and exhaust manifold with a better flow so that the exhaust and intake influence each other as little as possible. but Aaron, when will you treat us to an update of your RX5 Cosmo again?
Hopefully Rob's improvements of the oil flow system involve adding more oil drain plugs because apparently, according to Scotty, that's a really important point!
I was sick for most of January and recovering in February so that really slowed down work on the Cosmo. That's really why this video exists; I had lots of time to sit down and edit it and needed something "easy" to do with my time. I've only just in the past week been able to work a bit on the Cosmo. Work is still very slow as I'm always tired.
@@aaroncake yeb Scottie sucs get well soon
The example motor he is using is Liquid Pistons design for a "Rotary/Wankel" type motor. The 12 Rotar he shows is the one that Rob Dahm is improving that was originally built for a boat. Scotty's videos on rotaries sound like they were written by big media writers (little to no proper research done).
YES!
I'm not sure if you're a fan of Rob Dahm or not, but he loves and swears by Valvoline VR1 oil and claims it's saved his motors multiple times. As I see also mentioned by others, he's actually currently working on that 12-rotor motor. Did a whole tear down analysis and working on making it properly functional.
I tried to watch his videos in the past but it just wasn't my style. Perhaps I'll have to revisit them. Definitely need to catch up on the 12 rotor. Curious too about the VR1 stories. I am always cautious of such claims because without extensive testing and control tests, anecdotal evidence is just that.
rob Dahn has the motor right now and fixing all of the problems with it
No, the most efficient way of converting fuel into noise without the side effect of horsepower is the Harley Davidsion haha
Or the temperature being hot and cold spots... That's why the rotors are offset
he didn’t say they were rare, he said they were relatively rare, which i would take to mean the rotory motor was rare in comparison to a regular piston engine
That makes sense. Compared to a piston engine of course. The insinuation that it made parts hard to find was where I took exception. Rotary parts were (and for the most part still are) available at any Mazda dealer within a day or few of ordering.
id love to see a debate between these 2
I doubt he's interested. All he probably wants to do is pump out as many videos as possible to game the algorithm and rake in the revenue. It's fairly clear he doesn't care about accuracy or even giving dangerous advice.
I can only hope that the people who subscribe to SK's channel are addicted to B.S. I refuse to click on any of his crap. Also, don't you know that rotary and radial engines start with an 'R'? Therefore they are the same.
Well, apparently "rotary" is a term for the style of radial with stationary pistons/crankshaft and rotating cylinders. As other commenters have pointed out. So I learned something!
You're going to be surprised when you finally watch Dahm's video on the 12 rotor construction/layout.
I'm not really a watcher of Rob's videos but I may watch this one. All of my info on the 12 rotor came from the original thread on the RX-7 forum but it would be nice to see it probably more thoroughly covered in a video format. Really interested to see those splined eccentric lobes.
you have a channel! I've never understood the Scotty hype even with piston engine stuff. He's gotten hella audi stuff wrong before.
Because in the kingdom of the blind, the one eyed man is king.
As a car guy, anytime someone brings up Scott i can assume they are misinformed.
See? I knew i loved you for a reason.
But back to that dude: every time he opens his mouth, there's something wrong coming out of it. And every time i hear someone say "yeah, but that kilmer guy said this and that", that's me knowing that you (the one bringing something up) have no clue what the hell you're talking about. This isn't just about rotary engines, this is about everything he speaks about. That channel spews out more bullsh!t than a megafarm.
edit: 2:06 that engine is the engine that Rob Dahm is "restoring" and modifying currently. It's presented in his video titled "I WAS GIVEN THE ONLY 12 ROTOR ENGINE IN THE WORLD!! WITH ONE GOAL IN MIND" from 9 months ago that Tyson Garvin built.
5:42 that dude calls it "oval" because he didn't pass basic grade math. He thinks he's talking about an "ellipse".
Whenever Kilmer is correct about something is about the same ratio as blind squirrels finding nuts - or blind chickens finding corn.
We know it happens, but....
Well.
To be fair, I think squirrels sniff out the nuts. ;-)
@@aaroncake
Maybe someone else has sniffed something. Solvents - maybe??
26:54 Don't you think the higher ignition temperature of E85(Compared to pump gas) would help?!
Yes, but not for N/A applications. They just don't see the kind of chamber pressures which will cause pre-ignition or detonation unless timing is WAY advanced. Even then in an NA rotary it is very difficult to cause damaging detonation. The cooling effects and resistance to pre-ignition and detonation are definitely beneficial in a forced induction application. E85 is very popular with turbo rotarys.
Pulse performance is from New Zealand not Australia
Part of the reason I drifted away from rotary Mazdas (ex-owner of RX-4, FB, FC, FD) was the dense cloud of misinformation surrounding them. It is so tedious when nearly every individual who wants to talk to you about your car is completely mired in ignorance, and also, super sure of themselves and inclined to argue about everything. This SK vid isn't helping.
Preach it! The number of times I have been at a car show with my FC when someone looks under the hood then tries to explain to me things about the rotary...It is absolutely Dunning-Kruger. I don't fault people for not knowing. Because the more one knows, the more one knows how much they don't know. What I fault people for is the absolute inability to accept they may be misinformed, and their absolute sureness that their misinformation is correct.
@@aaroncakeRight on. I used to follow your videos & rx7club posts 10-15 years ago, and like I said I kinda drifted away from everything. I'm not sure why you popped up in my feed again, but thanks be to the benevolent algorithm. I realize I've been missing your stuff.

2:11 where do I get the 12 rotor engine? 🤔
Rob Dahm is currently restoring and modifying that engine on behalf of Tyson Garvin. It's a legendary engine within the deeper rotary world. Rob has... 4~5 videos on it. Currently, he's working on the intake and exhaust mods, machining more space saving variants for a car (from boat) conversion, afaik.
Apparently it's Mazda's new engine that shocked the entire industry. Didn't you watch? ;) (my emjoi isn't showing up?)
Alcohol burners use about 10 times as much fuel to travel the same distance. Depending on induction etc.
the one kilmer keeps showing is called a liquid piston rotary engine .
Someone pointed that out to me on my Patreon so I had to look it up. Had never seen it before! Looks like a neat design. Though still very odd that he uses that picture when speaking of Mazda rotary engines. Like me showing a 2 stroke Detroit diesel when I'm talking about an LT5.

No he is actually referring to a rotary engine(Mostly used on WW1 era aeroplanes), which looks like radial but the blocks rotates and the crankshaft is stationary.
I don't think I've ever heard that referred to as a rotary, always a radial. Though of course common terms may vary based on geography, etc. It's such a common mistake I always assume they mean "radial". So we can give him that one.
Check out Rob Dahm, he’s working on that 12 rotor right now.
"I'm scared, reading is hard, so let's poop our pants" can be applied to pretty much anything Japanese. 20B Cosmo, Japanese market FDs, Infini FCs, etc. The entire English language has failed to produce a suitable adjective to describe such persons. However, it does exist in German, it's 35 letters and 10 syllables long. I originally discovered this in order to describe 3 unrelated people randomly going squirrelly over separate parts that all of them had, and for no logical reason.
Bullimischerscheißefressenderkobold is a hell of a drug.
Great word! Incidentally if you google it, zero results are returned. That's also quite an accomplishment.
@@aaroncake In a rather humorous twist, translating it back to English also produces zero results in Google. I guess I'm the first to refer to anyone as a "bullimic shit eating goblin" in any language, much less identify 3 such persons in less than a month. Maybe this is what happens when their mother was a hamster and their father smelt of elderberries...
Hahahaha im waiting for scotty to chime in
I doubt it will happen. Looks like all he does is pump out low quality videos and wait for the ad dollars.
Ugh. Absolutely abhor SK. Clickbait peddling, crap spewing, old man. And yeah, I agree, he probably yells at clouds. I don't even have to click a video. Just seeing a recommendation to one of his vids on the scroll through pooptube gets an eye roll hard enough to almost snap the optic nerves. More real enthusiasts should call him out.
Mazda didn’t make a 12 rotor but rob dahm has been building one for about a year.
Shame Scotty Kilmer didn't figure this out prior to misleading 800,000 viewers.
Unrelated but not so, most who recal or write about Plato havent read his works...just heard others...
Why dont you use adblock?
Usually I just ignore ads. I only use it on sites that are completely unusable with the ads allowed. Like the InsightCentral forum. Or the RX-7 Forum.
@@aaroncake I would not have patience with any amount of ads. Anyways, cant wait for more car videos. Watching you for like 10 years already. Thanks for good content.
I run PiHole but only a default config so it is probably not as effective as it could be.
