This has got to be one of the most underrated channels I’ve ever seen. Love this content, but you gotta change up the thumbnails to get the clicks man! Love your stuff though!
Have been using for a month with a BMPCC4k and it's great! Always use the internal recording of the mic for safety as the signal might drop here and there and it's super easy to synchronize later in case needed, otherwise, the one direct to the camera works fine. For the price, awesome device!
best fulaim review so far. you test it on different scenario. hope you can make an example also in events/seminar with many people gathering in that area.
At the time of posting this reply, the UK Amazon list price is £139 but they currently have a £35 discount on so it actually makes it a little of £100. Bargain! I consider myself well into my tech. Like a magpie drawn to shiny things, electronic gear instantly has me interested and wanting it. I've moved from wanting the Rode Wireless Go II, to the DJI Mic to not being able to afford the £300 price ticket of either so researching the hell out of alternatives and their worth. The Fulaim X5 is currently sat in my basket awaiting me to click the BUY IT NOW button. I just hope I won't be disappointed
I did the same thing. Moved out of the UK so had to wait for my son to bring it to me (Xmas present to myself 😊). He brought it today - so, super excited to start playing with it.
Got the Neewer version of this mic set….few days ago Shot a few interviews, I am very surprised by the quality. Got it from Amazon for £90. Highly recommended it.
Great review! I just used mine at a wedding ceremony this past weekend and I was blown away. I had one attached to the officiants jacket and the second one was attached at the end of the officiants portfolio which picked up the Bride and Groom. I was at the back of the room around 40 feet away with minimal line of sight. These worked flawlessly and even the photographers were surprised with them.
Great review. However, all the options (other than the Comico) you are comparing the Fuliam to, have 24-bit audio hence the price. Your chart is a bit misleading. As a bonus to my comment, all these mics will have audio dropouts (to various degrees and conditions) if Bluetooth is turned on. The best audio (IMO) from wireless mics to prevent Bluetooth audio dropouts would be anything from 5.4 Ghz and above. All these mics are in the 2.4ghz range. Still good mics though. Some are better than others.
Thanks! I've had my Fulaim for a month now using it with my iphone12pm and CinemaP3. I set the gain at 3. Higher induces some distortion at higher frequencies.
Now 6 months on I'm super happy with my Fulaim. After doing tons of tests its audio is definitely best at 150mm in front of my mouth. Underneath my T-shirt is definitely better than on the outside.
Such a great review. Are you still using and loving these? Or do you prefer the other wireless systems? Seems like these are a great bang for buck option.
I now have a 32bit float system that suits my needs better, however they cost farrr more than these do and in 85% of the time I find sound quality very similar. I do still own them, and lend them to friends or keep them as a backup etc though
With my camera I’ve found 2bars to be the go to gain as well. Some cameras might be slightly different but if unsure I’d recommend starting at 2bars and adjusting camera levels from there.
Fulaim X5 has THE BEST sound for a "sumer" level mic. I class it as prosumer for me. I've used it in film with no issues and it's by far more reliable than the Fulaim UHF system I have. I actually use the receiver to jam timecode too LOL. Seriously though I would by like 4-5 more of these so i can have split stereo and run 2 channels on my Zoom F8n. Fulaim has the best sound produced in my opinion. Rode is weak af and the DJI is too high.
Two things that are important to me, can I plug this to USB-C directly and use an an audio interface on a laptop? - and how secure is the included deadcat attachment? -- Also, what's the process of copying the internal footage over (it's very poor on Rode!)?
Yes the instruction booklet says you can hook it up to a laptop via the usbc, I didn’t do this, but fulaim say you can. The windsocks twist in to lock in place and I’d be very condition how secure they are. Copying the audio over is just like using a usb stick, however in rodes defence with the wireless go II they worked just like a usb stick stick as well, but I seem remember them requiring special software, so I’m not sure when that changed.
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography Yes, I think Rode fixed it eventually, but when I had it, having to use the software to manually copy and name recordings 1 file at a time? - that was painful! - Thank you for that :) One thing that's concerning me now is this is only 16bit while every other solution is 24bit. It's not a big deal if you get your levels just right, but if you set your levels, then your mic is slightly further away, you're losing about 48dB in terms of noise level and you can't boost the gain nearly as much in post - that's a bit disappointing, but I do wonder how much of a difference this makes in post for a lav mic hmm.
Hello, I would like to see/hear a video about the difference between Fulaim X5 and the Sonic QWM-10? Is there someone that can give me more info? Thanks.
Great video, I had the Wireless Go II which failed on me after a few months (Rode support were great but I sold the replacement mics as it shook my confidence a bit). The DJI look great but I've been reluctant to spend so much. This looks like a great option!
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography One thing I did just notice is these are 16bit recording, everything else on the market is 24bit - that's a bit of a bummer, if you don't get your levels quite right, that could be quite a big difference hmm.
@DigiDriftZone everything I can find from most brands don’t let you set your internally recorded levels and as I showed in this video they are all way to low for my tastes. But I also feel fulaim recovered just as well as the others
Hey buddy, question. When outdoor vlogging with the action 4 and the x5 what settings should i use? Mono or stereo? What gain should i set the action 4 too? Do i need to use backup audio setting? Anything else you can think of please let me know. Thank you so much
Do some real basic tests at home to answer that, in ending ya want ya audio just hitting over -5dp, but never over 0dp. If you’re unsure when recording, record at a quieter gain and boost it a little in editing, as you can remove distortion in post but you can remove some noise from lifting the volume
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography thanks so much for that info. Will try as you suggested. Im never sure what to set the gain at . I see many people say set to 6 or 12db . Thanks again
@ralex6786 I’d set the x5 at 1 or 2 (I’ve been happy with that on different cameras) and then keep upping your action 4 gain until things are good. I’m not sure if the action 4 shows audio levels on it, so if it doesn’t when you do your testing talk a little louder and a little quieter than normal (don’t shout or whisper just act like you’re tired or excited etc) bring it in to editing and make camera gain adjustments from there, it might take a few goes but then you’ll know
No it can not, I’d also like to point out that there is no way to adjust the level of what’s recorded internally and I’ve found both to be every quiet, ok as a back up, but still disappointing. If internal recording is a requirement for you I’d go all out and get a system with 32bit float internal recording
Hey , thanks for the video! i need your advice friend! my charity organization is adding content creation to the work , we did some filming but the audio was not good , and even worse , out of sync with the video . I was bracing myself for these expensive purchases like the rode pro seeing as everyone is hyping it up so much and saying 32 bit float over and over , which , i dont understand any of this as a lamen , i just want clear audio , outdoors , on the go , filming from a huwawei p20pro smartphone . I am okay with the screen not being as bright , not enough room in the charging case for accessories , i can see why it would be nicer , but for the price of this unit , i can put up with it until i am more experienced and knowledgeable to make a bigger purchase . My main concern is simply getting clear audio on the go as i speak outside on a mic + speaker system , and walk around interacting with people , so what seems to be my dilemma with any mic , would be that it cuts out when you turn your back to the camera , and then i assume , if people walk through the shot this could be an issue since i will be walking around organically doing my thing and interacting , i wont be in a perfectly setup , scripted scenario where i just always face the mic perfect , no on walks between the shot , some of these areas might have a lot of noise around being high traffic areas where lots of people can be , so , another concern . any advice you have is amazing! i can get this unit for literally just above 100 dollars after the coupon i have then i just pay shipping and CAD dollars ...... so .........if its a great contender as you mention , maybe its worth starting off , if its not good enough , at least i didn't lost much money , the rode pro for me is like 500 CAD + ....thats a HUGE jump , and , i do love that they give 2 lav mics , they have this 32 bit float which is apparently amazing according to everyone i been reading , i love that , but , is it worth like 350+ dollars more .....since ....the mic / unit itself did not change , same as old rode mics . i dont have the wisdom to make the choices , i dont know the power of editing , i need advice on this stuff , simple filming with a smartphone either on a tripod or someone holding and filming , sometimes on me as a gopro to get first person view , all with good audio , ill try to learn how to get good video for my specific phone , its older , but its actually pretty good . I then need some advice on editing , what software , probably davinci for me as a beginner , but , where do i learn to edit? what do i need to know? i feel very lost your advice will mean a lot to me ... please help , thank you for your time friend :) this was a great vid , i hit like for you too and im subbed now!
Oh the magic of 32bit float is that you don’t have to worry about your audio being too quiet or two loud at the time of recording, you can adjust it later. But if you’re recording to your phone or GoPro, those don’t have 32bit audio so this awesome feature wouldn’t work for you. So to get good audio on what you have you HAVE to have a way to seeing the levels to know if things are too loud or quiet but even more so I’d highly suggest someone wearing headphones so they can tell if you audio dropped out etc and that you need to “ask that question again” Most wireless mics (these X5 included) have a headphone out so even if the device you are recording to you doesn’t let you plug in headphones AND a mic someone can still be listening. You can also record the audio on the transmitters so if it does cut out you can line it up later in edited as a back up. Yes I’d suggest davinchi as this is what I use, and learnt it all just from RUclips videos and putting in the hours of practice. But if you can get a camera app for your phone that shows audio levels and teach someone what to look for and listen for you’ll be able to get good results on a phone etc. Hope this all helps.
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography yes, I do the same with a recorder, but looking to upgrade to 32 bit float soon. Looking forward to the Deity PR-2 for around 200-300.
