    I see a few others have stated this fact, but it bears repeating: Apple's password manager is better than nothing, but the fact that it's only protected by the simple 4-digit passcode most users use, means it's extremely vulnerable, especially if you're "shoulder surfed" for your PIN). Same for even a 6-digit numeric PIM. A longer alpha-numeric pin is a must to address that scenario, but a 3rd-party password manager is even better. Different password than the phone.
    Apple could go a long way to fix this vulnerability by allowing the user to set a separate PIN for settings like the changing the passcode on the phone, opening your resetting your iCloud password, and locking the password manager.
    Nice informative video for those who aren't worried about those concerns.

    Some more education about this section around two step authentication would be cool. I don’t use it often, but want to more. But iOS can’t be an authenticator, can it? 1:51

    • @beardfm
      @beardfm  10 месяцев назад +1

      2-Step auth is a second layer of security that most websites and services offer. Enabling it you *usually* have the option of SMS text codes or “authenticator app.” I would recommend the later in case your number changes, you don’t have service, and you can’t sync the auth codes across devices.
      iCloud Passwords can certainly act as 2FA authenticator like I showed here. And I find it to be one of the most seamless. Plus it syncs via iCloud so it’s not tied to a single “authenticator” stand-alone app! Let me know if that helps!

    I think Apple needs to make Passwords its own app, rather than it being embedded in Settings. They could have just turned Keychain Access into a Passwords app. Also, adding all the items you mentioned, like custom fields, user name, etc. There isn't really a reason to use this over other password managers yet. I have a bad feeling that this is as far as Apple will go with it as far as organization features goes. They also need to redo the entire Settings app on MacOS. Whoever thought up that redesign should be fired.

    • @beardfm
      @beardfm  10 месяцев назад

      Agreed on the standalone app. They've added new features with each iOS update so I'm hopeful they will continue to update it.

      If you open the 1Password app > File there’s an option to export all your items. And iCloud Passwords can import that!
