Kim, totally agree with you on the whole "looked down on because you are young", or even just looking young, people these days want to be able t get away with the absolute minimum and would rather not go out of their way to make someones day tbh, which is why you just have to put your foot down to a lot of people. That happened to me once on a trip to Asia. My connecting flight in O'Hare was delayed because of mechanical problems--for four hours! Which of course meant my connecting flight in Asia was blown. United gave me a crappy $10 voucher for food. Since then, I've always tried to make sure my trips have no more than one connecting flight.
I won't book flights with less than 2 hours between connections for this reason. I'm really glad we have direct flights from Melbourne to Tokyo now. My flight has always been 40 minutes to an hour late leaving Melbourne and we were 2 hours late leaving Tokyo last week :/
As a flight crew, we really do not know if you will make your connecting flight or not. Things happen beyond our control all the time (maintenance, flight time, taxiing, etc). All we can do is make sure ground staff takes care of you.
I know right! It annoys the hell out of me when pax ask me if I can predict if they'll make their flights.. how about you just make sure the connecting time is more then enough so I don't have to get my crystal ball out.

This happened to me and my husband coming back from our honeymoon, We got to the Bangkok airport 6 hours before our flight. Our flight was then delayed by 2 hours I spoke to the staff at the airport saying our flight from Sydney to Canberra was 1hour after we land and we are running over 2 hours late they advised they would talk to Sydney, we also advised the crew on the plane and they advised they couldn’t do anything. When we landed in Sydney one of the ground crew had a sign for Canberra and she advised we needed to speak to another lady who advised that the plane had left and that our next plane leaves 2 hours later that was okay and we both were given $20 food vouchers we then went to domestic to book in and they advised that our flight had been cancelled and the next flight was 8hours later they finally managed to get us on a flight a bit earlier but it was such a pain and even worst when you are tired. Good luck with the rest of your flight. 🙂
That sounds terrible!! I hate having to wait so long at airports :( I had that issue last year where my original flight with Cathay cancelled and I was stuck at Singapore airport for 8 hours :(
Good they gave you a lounge! I need to remember being brave enough to ask next time I have a huge delay :/ looks like you could make the best of the waiting time.

Gosh im so worried now!! This is what I hate about connection flights... Happened to my only twice until now luckily, but the worst time was in London when me and my brother went back from Scotland and the plane was broken. Ended up stranded in Heathrow with no luggage and had to stay at the hotel there. It was a hazzle! Second time I was luckily already in Japan when I missed my flight to Fukuoka, but after a 10 hour flight I was practically dead at that point so it really sucked haha
i thot it was your fault that u missed ur flight based on the title BUT as soon as i heard that u were connecting in hong kong... i knew u were flying with cathay pacific and couldn't make ur connecting flight cuz damn soooooo many of my cousin / family and friends flight from australia to wherever via cathay hong kong almost ALWAYS miss their connecting flight...
I've flown them a few times but this was the first time coming to an issue. Though a few of my friends flew them and had exactly the same issue as me recently :(

Cathay Pacific airline sucks. My flight with them got delayed for 12 hours and they were hoping to please me with some food vouchers as well. Never ever gonna book Cathay Pacific anymore since then. They got really lousy service.
I had the same experience with Cathay pacific airlines! I had air sickness on the plane, and during my transfer they wouldn’t let me board my next flight because they thought I wasn’t ok to fly (when I only threw up once due to turbulence?!) and they made me and my mum miss my flight. We had to wait 5 hours with two little vouchers at Hong Kong air port until we caught the next flight. Probably the worst airline experience Ever! And I fly lots
Omg now I'm nervous about my connecting flights to Japan, I'm from England so it connects in Paris which should be fine I hope but if something happens I'm glad to know what can be done/ be told to do something about it because normally I wouldn't say anything thanks Kim :) also luckily they didn't loose your luggage with a gap that long! I'm always scared the longer my layover is every minute feels like they are more likely to loose my bags! I know people it has happened to when they had a layover from the UK in Amsterdam on the way to Tokyo and they lost like half the flights bags ugh how even!! so I did avoid going through that airport on purpose haha

Xinyi Lim hello! I am currently living in Japan and been to Osaka and Kyoto as well. If you’ll arrive in Kansai airport at 6pm and will catch the train ASAP, more or less you’ll arrive in Kyoto station at 8 or 8:30 pm. The travel to Kyoto from Kansai airport is 1 hour and 58 mins via ordinary JR train and 1 hour and 18 mins vis bullet train. It would be nice if you’ll book a hotel earlier so that you can proceed to your hotel once you arrive at the Kyoto station. The advantage of doing this is you can start your tour early on the next day. Kyoto has a lot of beautiful places and for me, it will take 3-4 days to go around those famous tourist spots. Hope this helped! Have fun on your upcoming trip!
That would be too much rush :( It will take a while for you to get from Kansai Airport to Kyoto, and most of the temples close around 5pm so you won't be able to see much. Definitely keep a whole day or two for Kyoto!

This happened to me twice. I'm from the USA. Once on the way to London and once on the way home from Florence. Distressing both times, but I got hotels and vouchers. The first time also a $300 flight voucher for a future flight with them. I cried. Maybe I got them because I looked so lost and sad?

I know why I always get connecting flights with 2 or 3 hours layover. There's always a chance of delay of the airplane.
