The dcg414 is a beast. I use have it and now got the dcg418 which is a monster. The flexvolt grinders are hands down i believe dewalts VERY BEST cordless tools of any tools they have made i believe. Down to the ergonomics and everything and if you got enough batteries and a 4 port charger like me i believe it cant be beat corded or cordless
@@animal79thecat i did not keep the 414. I sold it to a co worker. Nothing wrong with it but i jus wanted the best as i always do with every tool but especially the grinder since its my most used tool aside from impact and drill. Im always selling my used tools to upgrade to the best model. I have an obsession lol. For my second grinder i have the dewalt 20v dcg413fb which is the flathead model for getting in tight spots. And you can remove the guard without taking the wheel off. Wish the flexvolt one could do that.
@@bossmanz28 Haha you sound like me! Iv e got the 414 and am holding off getting the 418...im spending a fortune.I have the flathead and its a great tool...no one seems to have a review on it tho.
@@animal79thecat yea i guess cuz most ppl arent trying to spend more for the flathead design when you can get same power out normal dcg413 for cheaper and now the power detect and flexvolt advantage are stronger for cheaper. Even the handle design and ergonomics are nicer on the flathead but to a lot of ppl its not worth the cost if they even know that. My key to upgrading is combining promotions that come with extra tools or batteries or jus a really good price with selling stuff i dont need. At Christmas time i jumped big on the power detect promotion at lowes that came with an additional free tool and was scoring an 8ah battery for myself everytime and pocketing $20 profit. I bought about 8 to 10 kits. Last couple i even sold the battery too and profited $100. Key is dont sell anything as a bundle not even the charger Edit: also when you choose free tool always choose which one has the most value not what will sell the easiest.
ran my 414 over with skidsteer today...this video cheered me up a bit lol. ordered the 418 this morning... out of all the cordless grinders ive tried, that 414 was the best, comparable to a corded grinder and its even better now
Love my DCG414 grinder. Cuts rebar quite nicely with a Lenox Type 1 Metal Max blade. I agree with you on the ergonomic grip, it's comfortable to hold with one hand while holding rebar with the other. Of course if this new one is the same with slightly more cutting power, I may have to sell mine and upgrade to the 418. Thanks for the review!
This grinder really shows the draw backs of the competition. These grinders maybe the best cordless tools ever made. It's clearly night and day from 60v and the other tool lines.
I think dewalt are way ahead in technology than other brands, flex volt is more effective and backwards compatible but they lack in impact wrench options, Milwaukee takes the lead there
@@mrbolo9217 yes. 60v in most cases is much more effective tool than Milwaukee high output tools. It's all down to heat control. Dewalt impacts and 12v now are not far behind. Dewalt Impacts have lots of potential to improve where Milwaukee needs to... such as the 1 inch guns. At 12 v Milwaukee is awesome but one nock is how the batteries clip on. Saves space but clip on more secure.
@@mrbolo9217 I agree. But dewalt is due for 2nd gen hi torque half and 3/4 guns. That would make them pretty even. Dewalt could do 60v gun as well. The Milwaukee 1 inch gun is usless. Kills batteries to quickly. But 3/4 is awesome.
@@philipjohn4149 I agree, I’ve tried the 54v battery’s on the dewalt high torque, not a massive difference, the Milwaukee 1inch is a beast, but needs 12ah to even be useful on site, 3/4 is in the post tho can’t wait!!
@@mrbolo9217 I am a Millwright and have managed to damage a 12amph Milwaukee battery. What I noticed with some Milwaukee HO tools is the heat is to high the batteries trip out... it's best to switch out. But pressing the fuel gage will reset and allow u to keep going. .. then u have multiple trip outs. Not good. Its a lot of battery management compared to flexvolt. My super charger also started to have problems. Took it apart to find the cooling fan snapped in half. Will not change without a new fan.
I just got the 414 1 battery and super charger kit on clearance for $220. I don’t feel like I’m missing out too much on the 418 when the price is that good.
This may be the wrong information as of 4-23-22 on my end. It appears as though the rpms have been slowed, and now its up to a 7 inch wheel for the latest version.
@@Protoolreviews it's such a shame they didn't make it so the tool can also flex down for use with 18V batteries for those of use with existing 18V batteries that might want a simple power upgrade in the future.
Anthony Sergeant it goes on upside down push in the button and rotate the guard around to the bottom. It is then locked into place and don’t budge until you push the button to rotate and adjust the angle of deflection.
Have you guys done a video on the difference between 12volt / 20volt / & 40volt lithium batteries? If you have could u link me to it, & if u havent could u do 1?
The difference is in how many individual 3.6v li-ion cells are wired in series. A 12 volt battery will have 3 cells in a series, 20 volt 5 cells, and a 40 volt 10 cells.
@@Protoolreviews I think you may be mistaken with that response. The tool is a 60v skin and 20v won't run it. 60v batteries will scale down to 20v skins but you can't up the 20v power to run a 60v tool

I just bought 418, I hope it is worth your money.
If you just replace the blade with a cutting disc you'll get far more cutting speed than replacing the grinder.

I hate the guard adjustment of these grinders. They fall off the rails and get it back on. Either that or I am missing the trick
You must be missing some thing I never have any trouble

Rip the fucker off
I haven't got this tool, but if it's like all the other DeWalt grinders I've had then there is a tensioner screw next to the lever for adjustment.

DGC418 vs DGC415
The new Power Detect DCG415 (20v) is rated at 1350 MWO, so it still isn't as powerful as the older DCG414 (60V), let alone the new DCG418 (60v).
