That is a love song, even performed at weddings. However, in my opinion, it is a song of a man, who killed his girlfriend and buried her in the woods. Then he misses her and got back to the place were she lies. The song goes: I cannot live without you, but also not with you (because you are dead).
Somehow I feel it is age related, at least in the grand scheme of things. I stopped going to massive gatherings when I reached the ripe old age of 56, though I will make an exception when Ayreon puts on a show. Too many people in a crowd make me nervous and it isn't music related but the massive attendance and how they interact with each other. Strike up a conversation isn't done, all they want to do is yell and strike out. And there is nothing wrong with either one of those experiences.
That said, old or young doesn't take away the music. Just the intimacy of that club or smaller venue has my preference. And yes, Ayreon would be the exeption.
One of my fave music festivals back in the day in Oz was called Soundwaves which had a punk/alternative/metal line-up.
Cool mixture of peeps in the crowd and mutual respect was still a thing.
If you wanted to go hard you went close to the stage and vice versa if you wanted to appreciate the sound you'd simply position yourself where you were comfortable and could still chat with mates.
Honestly don't know if I could handle a gig with 1000+ attendees now so in total agreement on the smaller venues being preferred.
