I heard a story that during the beginning of rehearsals Pete asked if anyone had contacted Steve & no one replied.
At the same time Steve was in South America touring so he may not have been able to make rehearsals.
In his book Steve says his dad had heard the band were reuniting for a one off gig but he doesn’t say how his dad found out.
Either way, dick move. No Genesis reunion without Steve in my view.

What a pleasure to see all 5 guys being honest about the wrangling among the group and more so that they are all able to sit together and reminisce. Things may have been tense at times back in the day but it really shines through that they have mutual respect for each other.

I was at the concert in 1982 and it just pissed down all day long. Was absolutely soaking wet, but it was fabulous nevertheless, (and I ended up with flu for about the next month! - probably unrelated) lovely to see all of them together and getting on and it would’ve been great if they could’ve perhaps done one more joint album, perhaps impossible but at least they’re not as hostile as Roger and David from another band I happened to have been a fan of for the last 50 years.

I heard a few times from several sources over the years that musically it wasn't up to snuff, but I heard the bootleg on here a few days ago, recording quality isn't great but they all played excellently. I didn't recall one "ooooh, that was rough" moment. Even Peter's drumming on Turn It On Again, wasn't really noticeable as Chester was with him keeping fort.

I still have the programme and ticket stub for this. Like it was only yesterday. In a funny way Phil's remarks about no mobile phones back then is somewhat a blessing. People who spend entire shows with arms held up filming is pretty sad and also fu@king annoying!! In hindsight they should have filmed it properly with the proceeds also going to the WOMAD cause. For me this concert still remains top of the pile of genesis shows I've seen.

The amazement about the turnout and stoicism of the audience in that one-time reunion says a lot about the fact that these great musicians still don't quite understand the greatness of what they've composed. I don't think there's a venue that could serve the attendance, if such a reunion was possible, today. But it's OK. Many others have failed to understand their own relevance in their living years.

Well, Hackett was not really part of this apart from the encore. I think he came down from Latin America. What I suppose is that he wasn't really part of the organization given it was a pretty hasty job and it probably made sense from a logistical perspective to just stick with Stuermer (who probably was the best prepared guy on stage that night-irregardless if you like his playing style or not). At least they had some of the material already in the setlists of the Abacab and Encore tours and were prepared sufficiently on those tracks (Lamb, Carpet Crawlers, Firth of Fifth, Supper's Ready, In the Cage, The Knife was also played as an encore on just a few shows of the Abacab tour, Back in NYC was still being played on the Duke tour).
