    Here's a thought: Print plant image on heavy paper and on thin (rice) paper as well. Use rice paper as collage to amp up the textural effects. A soft torn edge can be made by drawing around the wanted bits (on the rice paper) with a lightly wet pointy brush, then carefully torn away from the rice paper. Let the edges of the bits dry before handling them. Use acrylic medium to secure to substrate. Add other collage (your zig zags) or crayon effects as wanted. Love the sweater, especially with the blue shirt. You and your snake plant make a lovely couple. looking forward to more art fun and "fashion" next Thursday.

    Awesome post Gaynor. Visually everything is stunning. Your home looks beautiful as do you -- so glad you decided to pull out that jumper - great choice as it suits you perfectly (as do the clunky boots)! Love your on-going experimentation with mono printing. I've found that gel plates are both a joy and a curse - especially when the results are frustrating. I've yet to purchase yet MORE paint but from what I've been able to understand thin coats of slow drying paint (e.g., Golden Open) appear to work best. I know in my climate despite it being winter (or perhaps because the heating is forced air in my place) paints dry extremely quickly and even with the best rice paper I end up with a mess occasionally. Thank you (over and over) for sharing your journey! As for what I'm up to - my January challenge is at least one page per day in my art journal and so far so good. Also set aside a series of 9 that I've gotten to that "certain point" where I've had to contemplate next step(s). Be well!

    • @gaynorpattle
      @gaynorpattle  Год назад

      Quite overwhelmed by such compliments ! Thank you doesn't really cover it ! I have read that it takes 30 days to make a habit - so you are well on your way ! Wow...a series on nine gives you plenty to play with but oh how I know that 'certain point' and all I would say is don't tighten up and don't think about the finish. See it as the 'certain point' stage ! Thank you again for such kindness, it really gives me confidence to keep going 🥰

    Another inspiring video. I really would love to delve into the sketchbooks though, to see how you notate your journey. With gelli/mono printing nothing can be reproduced exactly again which can be frustrating, but I love the happy accidents. Like you, I find the really good one you love after a session, is the one on the cheapest paper that’s perhaps torn or splattered with another colour accidentally. All good fun though. Thank you again Gaynor.

      Hi Fiona, I write in the A4 sketchbook everyday -- some pages are all writing about how I'm feeling, art ideas I have, what I've tried and liked. I date every entry. If my pen will work...I write over the top of drawings. I have drawings that I start and go back to over the life of the sketchbook. Crumbs....perhaps a delve into the sketchbooks would be a good video ! Can I mention it was your idea ? I will get the gel plate out again for more experimentation. Thank you for your positive encouragement 🥰

    Thankyou Gaynor - love the gelli plate too - thinner rice papers and heftier tissue paper work well and pick up more off the plate than thicker paper - these can then be ‘glued’ to another stiffer medium - paper or board - with gel medium. I’ve also played with some intaglio inks on the gelli plate which seem to pick up more detail but take ages to dry - a week later and still lifting a bit - must be doing something wrong - and I used thin layers of the ink 🤷 Back to the drawing board🙄
