Thanks, this brings back great memories of watching Knicks and Rangers away games on WOR channel 9 during the 1970s. In those days, only NYC metropolitan-area cable systems had MSG, so we didn't have it in upstate NY. The only time we got see home games was when the Knicks and Rangers were on national TV, which wasn't often.
@@RovingRoy when i got cable in 81' msg and usa were on a shared station and msg was only on during gametimes. The rest of the time it was the usa network!
It's funny but I always associated this particular composition with the Rangers because this one would always play on the WOR Rangers telecasts but not evidently on MSG, which we didn't get at the time because we weren't wired for cable.

I think this is a tad older than '79 - more like the mid '70's. And it was used by both the Knicks and the Rangers with montages of various MSG events.
Can't say for sure about the Knicks but the Rangers stopped using it on WOR after the 1979-80 season. It was probably also abandoned for the Knicks telecasts at the same time.

DOES ANYONE HAVE OR REMEMBER THE MUCH FASTER HIGH ENERGY THEME THAT WOULD COME ON AT THE TOP OF ALL KNICKS GAMES ON CHANNEL 9 WOR IN THE EARLY TO MID 80s. THEY WOULD HAVE THE CAMERA ON THE STATUE IN FRONT OF MADISON SQUARE GARDEN AND AT THE END OF THE THEME WOULD TURN TO MARV ALBERT AND JOHN ANDREISE ( RIP) WAS A GREAT THEME AND A GREAT TIME WATCHING BERNARD KING....DAMN THAT SONG GOT MY JUICES PUMPING !

Yes! Didn't realize it at the time, but we in Ithaca had one of the earlier non-metropolitan cable systems back in the day.

This was the WOR opening theme song for Rangers games.
This was a universal Garden sports theme. They even played it when they did a Pro Wrestling Spotlight from the Garden too.
Sounds like Shaft's gonna watch a game at the Garden.

It was replaced in 1980-81 when UA/Columbia Sports became MSG Network and the national feed was renamed USA Network.
