My experience has taught me that exs who want to be friends either really like your attention (but not you) or want to keep you around as backup. Move on and don't look back... there is much better out there.

99% chances are that the ex doesn't want you to move on so fast, doesn't want you to find love, they want them to be in your mind all the time.. I feel my situation is different from most... Hear me out :) Okay so we had an argument one night and it lead up to taking some time to think about things. We both mutually agreed that a relationship is not going to work out right now. Mainly due to us having different priorities. He works a manual labor job 6 days a week up to 11 hours a day and I'm the one always asking to hang out and get upset when we can't due to him being busy. We both agreed that we could stay friends. We were never intimate (not even a kiss) so I don't think it would be weird. It was almost like all along it was just best friends. It's not like I'm trying to stay close to him to get sex or a backup if a future relationship fails... He's just kind of like my best friend and I don't want to lose a friend. But we talked in person about how things are going to work out right now due to our separate lives but a friendship may bring more happiness to both of us than trying to make a romantic relationship work.

I disagree. I felt a genuine friendship with my ex. I know we can't work out. I value his thoughts and opinions and we laughed a lot. He was my friend. Why is it that we keep so many other people in our lives that we've never gone deep with and that's ok, but we have a deep connection with someone we were once very intimate with and didn't work out romantically, we just discard them? I’m undergoing a similar situation. What I suggest in my best understanding is talk to him for a couple more days, be nice and collected. And then politely text that you can’t take just the friendship. And no, you aren’t glad about being friends. He’ll let you go at first and pretend being cool. But isn’t that better than admiring him from distance and sulking for not having him close? If he can’t give you a relationship, he must not rob your peace with breadcrumbs of attention. This sounds kind of exhausting. Basically feels as if you are doing everything to get them back, but, why? If they decided to throw the towel for whatever reason, even for valid reason due to a bad dynamic in the relationship, that's ok, but why we as the dumpees should even care about being friends and what to do to gain leverage? Remaining friends believing they can come back actually does not leave you do the things for yourself, because I'm the back of your mind your ex is there and you are hopeful he/she sees how great you are. If they didn't see it before they may ever see it and therefore that reconcilation may never happen and you are going to break your heart twice. It's possible platonic friendship between strange men and women, but after a romantic and sexual relationship, it is never. There are two options. Eighter, they get back together or cut the ties at all. I see what it was and cut myself off from him and had to evaluate what was going on with me and my relationship so I was able to pinpoint what it was and going to therapy for it to work through it. So yep during that situation I was emotional cheating.

Okay so we had an argument one night and it lead up to taking some time to think about things. We both mutually agreed that a relationship is not going to work out right now. Mainly due to us having different priorities. He works a manual labor job 6 days a week up to 11 hours a day and I'm the one always asking to hang out and get upset when we can't due to him being busy. We both agreed that we could stay friends. We were never intimate (not even a kiss) so I don't think it would be weird. It was almost like all along it was just best friends. It's not like I'm trying to stay close to him to get sex or a backup if a future relationship fails... He's just kind of like my best friend and I don't want to lose a friend. But we talked in person about how things are going to work out right now due to our separate lives but a friendship may bring more happiness to both of us than trying to make a romantic relationship work.

I disagree. I felt a genuine friendship with my ex. I know we can't work out. I value his thoughts and opinions and we laughed a lot. He was my friend. I’m undergoing a similar situation. What I suggest in my best understanding is talk to him for a couple more days, be nice and collected. And then politely text that you can’t take just the friendship. And no, you aren’t glad about being friends. He’ll let you go at first and pretend being cool. But isn’t that better than admiring him from distance and sulking for not having him close? If he can’t give you a relationship, he must not rob your peace with breadcrumbs of attention. This sounds kind of exhausting. Basically feels as if you are doing everything to get them back, but, why? If they decided to throw the towel for whatever reason, even for valid reason due to a bad dynamic in the relationship, that's ok, but why we as the dumpees should even care about being friends and what to do to gain leverage? Remaining friends believing they can come back actually does not leave you do the things for yourself, because I'm the back of your mind your ex is there and you are hopeful he/she sees how great you are. If they didn't see it before they may ever see it and therefore that reconcilation may never happen and you are going to break your heart twice. Isn't easy to just cut all contact and if they really think the relationship is worth it, after a while, they can find their way to you?

Okay so we had an argument one night and it lead up to taking some time to think about things. We both mutually agreed that a relationship is not going to work out right now. Mainly due to us having different priorities. He works a manual labor job 6 days a week up to 11 hours a day and I'm the one always asking to hang out and get upset when we can't due to him being busy. We both agreed that we could stay friends. We were never intimate (not even a kiss) so I don't think it would be weird. It was almost like all along it was just best friends. It's not like I'm trying to stay close to him to get sex or a backup if a future relationship fails... He's just kind of like my best friend and I don't want to lose a friend. But we talked in person about how things are going to work out right now due to our separate lives but a friendship may bring more happiness to both of us than trying to make a romantic relationship work.

@@junelee5975 Yep, I can take accountability after all is said and I was wrong in the situation. I see what it was and cut myself off from him and had to evaluate what was going on with me and my relationship so I was able to pinpoint what it was and going to therapy for it to work through it. So yep during that situation I was emotional cheating.
The best is to never fall for his tricks, i re still not sure if they really regret loosing you and want you back for love or perhaps he wants you back coz of jealousy? And thought u would never find someone else after a break up, what if you consider him back and do the same chakala again, feelings can fade away especially when u realized that they never deserve you in the first place, if you new boyfriend is really inlove with you please try transfering that love to him and appreciate him for choosing you unless he is also no showing signs of commitments and maybe you can risk it but invest in you by loving you first
