What a fun hobby. We are from Canada(although my husband is English) who have lived all over northern Canada. In 2005 we took a year away from our wilderness small town life to backpack around Europe with our 3 sons, who were 8,11,14 yrs at the time. The rest of the year we lived in Derbyshire. We had such great adventures that still live in our (now adult) kids memories. One of our boys found an old iron skeleton key on an old railway track near where Florence Nightingale lived. We imagined it might be the key to her home.😉 He was so excited. We hung it on a ribbon and it's been a Christmas tree decoration ever since. Brings back the excitement and discovery story when we hang it on the tree every year, even 20 years later. My husband and I have been big travellers in our life and have passed that down to our boys. Their passports are full, and they are very much 'citizens of the world'. I expect your daughters will have their horizons expanded greatly from your move to the UK. Wonder when their accents will change? Our 8 year old came back with quite the cute little accent after only 1 year. Looking forward to our own Bonfire night next weekend, with sausages and parkin...and 18 inches of snow..in the Yukon! Cheers from Canada.
@@haasfamfarm South west, I recommend visiting Devon/Cornwall, maybe even better in the winter on a sunny day, go for a brisk walk along the coast then find a pub with good fire and enjoy a good pub lunch it’s heaven. Dartmouth in Devon is beautiful. Anywhere coastal Cornwall, just avoid Newquay.
If your Daughter is interested in that kind of thing I recommend her getting a Metal Detector and becoming a Detectorist. You and she will need to research the regulations regarding that but keep in mind that here, unlike the USA, you can find objects dating back hundreds if not thousands of years! There may well be a Detectorists Club near where you live. Speaking of Detectorists, you have probably been here long enough now to understand our sense of humour so I strongly recommend the BBC comedy series "Detectorists". It is a subtle and gentle comedy featuring two friends played by its Writer Mackenzie Crook (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Office [Original UK version] and Game of Thrones) and his friend Toby Jones (Harry Potter, Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park). It is a very gentle but warming comedy with very well crafted characters and can be seen on the BBC's iPlayer via a Smart TV or on other devices.
I love Scarlets enthusiasm with the magnet fishing. She needs to play Poo sticks. It's what Winne The Pooh and his chums did on a bridge. Drop sticks into the flowing river/stream and see whos stick comes out first from under the bridge, thats the winner 😃
Good work little one 👏 👍. Keep at it, treasure hunting for old stuff. Mum and Dad should buy her a metal detector I reckon, hunting for roman coins etc in the fields 😉🙂👍
@@haasfamfarm At least the magnet fishing was not in a river or canal in a town or city and WWII unexploded ordnance pulled out, guns and other weapons have been found. Metal detecting can turn up valuable finds, the Landowners permission is needed and is entitled to a percentage agreed beforehand, anything of age or significant value must be reported to the local Coroners office who may claim it for the nation, you will receive the value. That applies to waterways as well.
That's a soggy Scarlet lol. Good to see such dedication though. All sorts of historical objects have been found by doing this and by metal detecting. Good luck out there kiddo. Definitely gate fittings; maybe Victorian and made by a local blacksmith. Might be worth checking any early pictures of the bridge to see if it had a gate at one time.
Great to see kids not being squeamish about outside stuff. Try putting knots in the rope about a forearms length apart to help with grip ;) The "H" is a really cool ffind :)
Looks like she's really taken with magnet fishing. When next you guys go to a major city that has a river running through it let her do a bit of 'fishing'. But be careful. Our cities were heavily bombed during WW2. Not all have been found, plus other ordanance. But there could be all sorts of other cool stuff. Coins and artiifacts.

All that time in the rain, then Dad comes and almost loses the magnet 😂

Aye, one looked like a H, but the other looked a little like a F. You could use them as your logo initials.
Scarlett is going to go really far ….she is tenacious and bright as a spark.
You are SO right. Very comfortable in her own skin too, same with Ella. Where are you in the UK? ❤️

Just recently watched your RUclips videos. They are so good 😊best wishes. Russell from north Yorkshire.👍

Oh my goodness! I know!
Making a mess of their drive - I'd have let him go up & turn round for my own sake.
One of the last things you'd expect to see on a walk.... Oh the Americans are magnet fishing again.... lol.

You can't leave us like this ! We gotta know what that "h" really was ? 😊
Good point! I think it’s from an old Victorian gate to the field
That magnet will disturb the wildlife living in and around the bridge and scare them away .
GET HER A REAL MAGNET!!!! THAT ONE IS TINY
Definitely want more!
The flg at the start was not the correct one.
A mistake usually made but just for future reference.
might needa stronger magnet

Show your dad how to do it, Scarlet . He's not very good is he ?😅😊😅
