Hi, my name is Elie Moses and I am a 24 Year-Old Law and Film student here in Sydney, Australia. I have decided to watch what is considered one of the greatest and highest rated war TV SHOW's of all time 'THE PACIFIC' for the FIRST TIME!! This show is created by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks and is a follow up to Band of Brothers! Here is my reaction to episode 3 of season 1. WE IN AUSTRALIA!

YOU IN MY ENDS NOW!!! 😂😂
The fact that you’re enjoying the series so much (this is most people’s weakest episode) makes me excited for what’s to come, because the back half of the series is so good!!!
This episode was 🔥🔥🔥
I love how Puller calls John “old man.” John was not yet 26 when he won the Medal of Honor, and he was old for his unit. Insane
Few things: I wish I had been able to spend more than a couple days in Australia and cant wait to go again. A lot like the US where a lot of places are so far apart compared to Europe, so it doesnt seem surprising that you havent been to Melbourne.
I also laughed out loud when you were saying he shouldnt fully unwind, then she rolls in and then you thought maybe he should lol.
I love this episode too. This series does a great job showing some sides of war and soldiers lives that we didnt get in BoB. And thats not really a detriment for BoB, this just chooses to examine some slightly different aspects. Such a great companion series.
Another great reaction! Americans want to be liked when they are overseas, sometimes this causes conflicts with those locals that are more reserved. Australia had a strict rationing program which didn't apply to the Americans. The bar fight was probably reflective of both the Americans' attitude and the rationing. This also explains how Leckie could get the leg of lamb. One thing most Americans don't realize (and probably some Australians) is Australia has fought alongside the US in every major conflict the US has been since WW1 (WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan.) Even the UK can't make this claim. Thank you, Australia!
The story of Calvin Leon Graham is no ordinary tale. Be sure to read through this comment to some of things that make his story so amazing.
The Naval battles off Guadacanal were deadly for both the Americans and the Japanese. So many ships were sunk (almost equal numbers for both sides) that they named the area off the coast Iron Bottom Sound. In the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal and the Naval Battle of Santa Cruz a sailor aboard the Battleship South Dakota made history. Sailor Calvin Leon Graham was assigned to a 40mm anti-aircraft gun. During the Battle of Santa Cruz his battery was hit killing and wounding many of the men in Calvin's area. Though wounded, Calvin began to assist in the rescue of fellow crew mates. For his actions he was awarded the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. So what, lots of men were awarded those metals but Calvin wasn't a man. Calvin was born April 3, 1930 which made him a 12 year old boy, the youngest person to serve in combat in WW2. He was kicked out but enlisted in the Marines in 1948 and went on to fight in Korea. Quite a boy and quite a man.
Wasnt there a 6 or so year old russian boy who was enlisted as like a foster child for a unit in russia?
@@paddington1670 Yes, Sergei Aleshkov, "Son of the Regiment" the youngest soldier to serve in WW2. He was in the bloodiest battle in history, The Battle of Stalingrad and was awarded The Military Merit Medal. Sadly he died at age 53. He started smoking as a child and this was before filtered cigarettes were invented. He died of a heart attack in 1990.
The Union Army had its own boy soldier in Johnny Clem. At age 10 he signed up as the youngest drummer, but in the Battle of Shiloh he picked up a gun and fought. He is actually credited with killing a Confederate Colonel during the battle.
@@mikealvarez2322 good info, thanks
I've been waiting for you to react to this episode since I discovered your channel because Australia, lol. You did not disappoint; great reaction.
Thank you so much!!
The actress you were thinking of is Isabel Lucas, who got her start in Home and Away. Her dad is played by the late, great Bill Hunter. Famed Greek-Australian actress Zoe Carides plays Stella’s mum.
I love the way the Colonel takes care of his men. He's the polar opposite of Sobel. He doesn't care if their uniforms are a mess, or if they're a mess, if they did their job their debt is paid in his book. He clearly hasn't forgotten that the men in his regiment are human, not just numbers. Sobel was more concerned with his ego and with Easy company making him look good than anything else.
1st marines stay in Australia had a pretty profound effect on the division to the point its official marching song is “waltzing matilda”
Haha a lot of people probably will be surprised by you not visiting a (seemingly) big city in your country but have done the same (especially if they're American lol). Us Americans forget how big other countries are. Australia being its own continent should clue those in that don't know: it's big!!! Parents are going this July and I'm jealous. I've never been but hope to go one day and spend as much time as I can spare and then go and bother the kiwis too while out there. Every inch of Australia looks beautiful and the amount of diverse biomes you all have is crazy... Even the driest and most "boring" parts of the Bush look exotic and beautiful to an outsider
Central Australia is said to be absolutely beautiful
I am not surpised it would be like someone being surprised someone from USA hasn’t been to New York. Like I’m from Iowa and have 0 desire to go to New York but to people outside of the states I imagine they would be surprised to know most people don’t go to those city’s.
You yellin when they were at it again outside made me laugh. I was in the Marines and the guys I served with that got a chance to deploy to Australia said it was the best time they ever had.
Don't do it, Elie! Those ladies from the WWII era have to be 90-something years old by now. 😂
I could set my watch to your upload schedule lol.
@47:28 EM- there wasn't any bloodshed in it
Poor farmers cow- moo
After this episode, this show becomes very brutal. The pacific front was nasty business.
The whole Stella situation isnt entirely accurate. Leckie was actually involved with 2 women, the first being Molly but then when he met Sheila, Molly broke it off. The family thing pretty much happens how its shown (though on of Leckie's buddies also stays with them) but the reason why Sheila ( Stella) breaks up with Bob isnt the same. In the show it's because she doesnt want her family or herself to be hurt if he gets killed, in actuality it was because she was married and this was just a fling while her husband was in Tasmania.
Im glad people are still watching The Pacific, it's HBO's most expensive production ever
I usually watch once a year. I just really like the series. And I recommend it to everyone. Not sure if it is still on Netflix or HBO only.
You may find this interesting. It's a killer song by an excellent Aussie band about the Australian girls who married US soldiers/sailors, and then came to the States after the war.

Did you miss Samuel Johnson as the belligerent Aussie soldier in the bar?
Yippee!!!
I like The Pacific just as much as BOB. But please remember, though this is a script, the script is based on real people and real events. Lecky did fall in love in Australia...and this episode showed the result. It's not a story line to drag you along for further episodes. But, I'm enjoying your reaction. You're thinking like a writer.
There was one huge brawl between Australians and Americans, but everybody got over it quickly. Too similar (no offense, lol). Some parts of reality were much crazier than this episode shows. The MPs opened fire on anyone who ran from them. Leckie and his boys were dodging bullets to stay AWOL. Because that at least was an enemy they could escape into something palatable.
@@richardstephens5570 Not in the brawl. It was just because they caught Marines out and they ran. You think that's weird, but it was normal before that. The world was a harder place before victory in WW2 made it slightly less hard.
A nicer episode. Will get darker ;-(
This film is very bad. It should be clear to anyone that the proper respect was not given in the production or presentation. It's so awful.
name something disrespectful or unrealistic.
Hello there, I know it is a strong opinion. I felt it lacking the sincerity of its predecessor. The romance and family scenes we're forced and cliché. The writing seemed designed to just back the truck up to the bank vault. We were not "moved" as we should have been. That's disrespectful considering the events.
