As a Melburnian, we can sometimes be a miserable lot and bitch and moan about the state of our city. The roads are bad, the weather is shite, the cost of living is too high…whatever. I've been living in Melbourne for a few years now and I'm always finding new cool areas to explore. Best place I've ever lived in. Glad your having a great time :)
I remember as a child dad taking us to the Vic Market in the 1960s to buy a big box of fruit and veggies. Then he brought us all one of those donuts. My Nan lived in suburb next to the city, Carlton, so sleeping over at Nans on weekends and nan taking me into the city was so exciting as a child. As a teenager I remember often just sitting and reading in the botanical gardens. I worked in the city for quite a few years. Now my daughter and husband have moved to live in the city in an apartment. Finally their 1st own home as he’s just retired from the army. Now she jogs around the parks and tracks before work. Watching both of you in the city - virtually covered over 60 happy years of my life, connected to the City of Melbourne 💞
I can remember when the Vic Market sold really good fruit, veggies and meat. Then the cheap and nasty tat sellers heard what a good place it was to sell stuff and they took over the market, paying higher rents than the real food sellers could afford. The same thing happened in Acland St, St Kilda. The best cakes and pastries in the world. People traveled from Europe and the USA to buy their pastries. Then the landlords heard how well the little pastry shops were doing and they jacked up the rents. The pastry shops could no longer afford to stay there and cheap and nasty tat sellers took over. I'm sure that it happens anywhere there's something good and unique. Greedy philistines take it over and destroy it.

ive grown up in melbourne my entire life that i forget how magical the city is, but watching you guys appreciate the city so much makes me so much more grateful that i get to live here!! thank you for reminding me how beautiful our city can be
A couple of things, the NGV ( National Gallery of Victoria) is not the museum, that’s the Melbourne Museum which is next door to the Royal Exhibition Building. Secondly the Sydney Melbourne rivalry dates back to the early 1900 when our original government was trying to work out which city should be the capital. It was decided that Melbourne should hold the Federal Parliament and Sydney would hold the Stock Exchange. In the end it got so messy they created Canberra- which is in the middle of the 2 cities. Move onto the 2020’s and Melbourne is now the biggest city in Australia. Sydney used to hold this title…. So the grumbling will continue. I heard the other day a great description Melbourne is the book and Sydney is the film, I think that says it all.
That's not entirely true. The 'Significant Urban Area' of Melbourne has now overtaken Sydney... albeit marginally, as Melton is now officially included as part of Melbourne (should've been all along anyway). However, Sydney is still bigger in the 'Greater Capital City Statistical Area' category. Again, by a very small and ever-decreasing margin. Don't ask me how these two different metrics work. I'm just going off what ABS and Wikipedia states. Yes, it seems inevitable now that Melbourne is going to overtake Sydney outright judging from the trend of the last two decades (excluding the pandemic years). But for me as a fellow Melbournian, I don't really see that as much to celebrate about if our infrastructure isn't up to Sydney's standard. While not exactly world class itself, Sydney's public transport network is better than ours... in my opinion, despite not having much of a tram network. Been living in Sydney for two years now. Things just run a little more smoothly here.
So is a book or a film better? I think Melbourne is also a film. Melbourne has so much life and soul. Somehow it feels so intimate. I used to think Singapore is great as a food haven with cuisines from all over the world. But Melbourne is better. ❤❤❤❤❤

P.S I appreciate your perspective, the perspective of people into art, culture, natural beauty, fashion, architecture and food...... Based on your Australian choices your opinions are valid and worth listening to. Again, thank you!
In answer to the question in the title, yes (IMO, obviously). I love Melbourne so much. All our major cities are different (Launceston is probably my fav), but Melbourne is extra special. BTW, in the brief shot looking at the city down the avenue of the Shrine (8.57) did you spot the face? That’s a portrait of William Barak on the Barak building. It’s one of my favourite things that people easily overlook at the time and only spot later in photos!
The Vic Market is about the fresh produce; the fish and meat hall, the amazing fruit and vegetables. It's famous amongst chef's and householders alike! The donuts we get after we do the shop :) Plus, there's amazing pet stores and vintage fashion, as well as made in Melbourne original artisan souvenirs.
You guys are so sweet. I'm glad you liked our city. Every time I come back from travelling I appreciate it anew. At $5M people it has now attained critical cultural mass. Yes, different vibes to Sydney, definitely.

You are so right. Melbourne is a top tier City with all the favourite cities roll into One. Before Covid it was the most Liveable City for 7 years in a roll. And I love the expressions from both of you tasting the food. Because it makes me want to cry. 😂
wow, awesome 1:21 - that’s our restaurant, Farro Organic Spelt Pizzeria. Next time you’re in Fitzroy drop in and say g’day.
So nice to see you guys enjoy Melbourne. ❤
That doughnut van has been there for decades and FYI that line is actually short. You were lucky!
My hometown ❤ Beautiful video, thankyou for doing fellow Melburnians proud!
You guys saying how Melbourne is like all your favourite cities in one just shows how diverse we are. That makes us unique ☺️ so glad you guys enjoyed my home city!
This woman absolutely adores her man
You really captured the beauty of our city. Glad you enjoyed your time here.
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed my beautiful city ❤
Looks like you missed the stained glass ceiling in the National Gallery. ( which is an art gallery, not a museum) . Glad you like Melbourne! 😊
Hey team, I was overly excited to hear your thoughts on Australia. I grew up in Tasmania, lived in Melbourne and the GC now residing in Sydney. You have done Australia well, done it justice and made an incredible story along the way. Thank you for sharing! Thank you for your opinions, thank you for showing our country to the world. I don't speak on behalf of immigration or the country but if it means anything, you are always welcome here! Bless you both. P.S I appreciate your perspective, the perspective of people into art, culture, natural beauty, fashion, architecture and food...... Based on your Australian choices your opinions are valid and worth listening to. Again, thank you!
Nice video! Well done🎉 You inspired me to do some videos of Melbourne even on my channel😍
Loving the Australia series, can't wait for Japan! Hugs from Argentina
Those of us who live here thank you for your great review of what we think is the greatest city on earth...
Good job showing off my home town...tastefully done..thanks
Thanks so much 🤍
Great video guy’s, keep up the good work 👍🇨🇦😎❤️

That fact you knew to order a magic is very impressive! Even a lot of Melburnians don't know it... it's my daily coffee... Glad you guys enjoyed my city!

Love seeing travel videos about Melbourne. Hope you guys had a chance to check out the Yarra Ranges during your time here.
You should try to eat “Yukimi daifuku ” which is Japanese famous mochi ice cream !! You can buy it convenience store or supermarket in Japan!!
Not sure if you noticed but 8:56 u can see a face on a building from where you are standing. Like right in line with where u r standing. Thought it would be a fun fact 😂
Melbourne is not just a city, it’s a feeling!! 😉
Aaah all familiar places to me, Melbourne is pretty cool. And yeah, HOT COFFEE
You do such a great job. A joy to watch.

Did you go into the original brick building that hosts the old proper Victoria Market shops (butchers etc?). That’s my favourite part.

It’s only cool because everyone tells you its cool….sporting capitol of the world !!! Can’t wait for the Comm games …ooops, and that lovely clear blue water of Yarra 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'm very proud to have spent my entire life in Melbourne. I don't know nor care if it's the ''coolest city ever''. I've lived in several other cities, but home is where the heart is. I know that's cliche, but that's how I feel...
Did you spend your entire life in Melbourne or lived in several cities?
@@serpserpserp Born and raised in Melbourne and temporarily lived in other cities.
