I was honestly kind of bored when I watched it, I also hated the subtle jabs they were taking at the idea of the intimacy coordinator for trying to protect Jocelyn and acting like he was going overboard for doing his job. If she wanted nudity in that photo shot they should have negotiated it properly beforehand. I feel like they are going for the angle of Jocelyn being empowered in her sexuality but its coming off more forced than natural to the character. I am hoping it gets explored later down the line but I have a feeling this show is quickly going to turn into The Weeknd’s character being the focal point and Jocelyn being more like a plot piece to be moved around without any growth or depth
@@Silverscreenfreak the trailer and the marketing kinda sold me on it but I was extremely disappointed, the show is deprived of story.. like I’m not really sure why I should care for the protagonist as well as I don’t even know where the story is meant to go.. it just felt like watching a random person do a photo shoot and dance practice in the morning, go to a party in the evening and oh wait she met someone! this could be exciting … and then you’re hit with the line “hey angel” and a monologue on how prince was a great artist lol this show is just so random
I personally thought the episode was solid and think the show has potential be rly good. I agree with u on the part where u said u hope it doesn't go in a predictable way and does something interesting. There's some minor details I noticed in the show. While shooting the album cover and going through all those diff emotions, when the photographer told Jocelyn to be sad and the tears started falling down her face, I think it's safe to assume she's invoking those emotions from memories of her mother as she's still quite clearly dealing with grief. Also her smoking cigarattes so much is her way of coping with the loss of her mother and all the pressure that her team and people put on her, specifically seen when Talia asked her about her mother in the interview and she immediately grabbed a cigarette. I think her going to the club and partying is also her way of coping with things.
well, she was crying before the dance practice. I think she definitely doesn’t like the way she’s being treated and she’s very aware of that. You can tell she has a hard time deciding what’s right for her
I found the first episode interesting. It could end up being a good show. I don’t think it’s trying to portray the poor little rich girl/celeb trope at all. If you’re looking, you can see more depth in the main character. The only thing I thought was “male gaze-y” was the masturbation scene. It was boring and seemed unnecessary, but hey, maybe something about it comes back around in the rest of the show. Who knows.

There are so many shitty reviews out there that are hating on this show for the sake of it but this one is def not one of them. It's actually pretty unbiased and fair, which is why I respect it.

Yup there’s still a chance of it subverting all our expectations! I’m not gonna judge it fully until I’ve watched the whole seasons
