    You have, by a wide margin, the best music production tutorials on youtube. It's crazy that you don't have more subs. There are a heap of youtubers with hundreds of thousands of subs who aren't half as good---both in their own production skill, as well as their teaching skills---as you. I've been producing as a hobby for about two decades now, and because there was no youtube, and not even a lot of online content in general, when I started, I had to work out most of this stuff for myself. I consider myself not too bad for an amateur, and most of the time when I watch youtube tutorials, I either already know everything they're explaining, or I disagree with their approach. With your videos, everything seems spot on, and I always learn something.
    The style of music you produce is quite different to the stuff I work on. I mostly do hard (anthem) trance, but the level of clarity you have in your mixes is 100% professional, and the techniques you use to achieve this are just as important for styles that don't have that inherent transparency. If someone's mixing metal or something, for example, the ability to get clarity is in some ways _more_ important because otherwise the mix just ends up sounding messy. To put it another way: every aspiring producer, regardless of the genres they work on could benefit greatly from learning your approach to getting a clean mix.

    • @beatsxlucas8021
      @beatsxlucas8021 4 года назад

      If u mean system overload, it’s caused by cpu usage and synths like serum and omnisphere usually use a ton of it. Layering audio will also cause it. So I would recommend freezing the tracks that overuse cpu. That usually does the trick 👍🏽

    Excellent tutorial! One question.... i noticed that you have the OTT on most of your tracks and then the Fab Filter MB on the bus. Both are multi band compressors so what are they doing differently? Why the need for both? Thanks Big Z.

    • @BigZMusic
      @BigZMusic  6 лет назад +1

      OTT doesn’t have nearly as much control and precision as you can have with fabfilter. Also I don’t push OTT very hard so it’s fine to have 2 different compressions on a sound. I use OTT to compress all the frequencies first then use Fabfilter MB to pinpoint specific frequencies

    • @PaddySimmons

    Question on the MB compressor by FF: the colors showing that are being shown, means that’s how much it’s being compressed?
    I’ve had this for so long sitting collecting dust, definitely going to start using this for my tracks! Thank you big z you da man

    • @OfficialRocNation
      @OfficialRocNation 6 лет назад

      the colors on the FF is the amount of gain reduction on the compressor/expander.

  • @him6944
    @him6944 6 лет назад +1

    This is a very good tutorial but I still dont get when to use an EQ or a Multiband Compressor?
    because u say to use an eq when the problem is constant and when you want the frequency reduction to be permenant, but with the Fabfilter pro MB, the effect IS constant because the threshhold is always being hit when the bass/ lead are playing.?

    • @OfficialRocNation
      @OfficialRocNation 6 лет назад +1

      it's kind of a case by case basis. In this case the compression worked well because it didn't completely get rid of the noisey frequencies it just tamed them according to the threshold and gain reduction. But with an EQ that entire frequency band is being reduce constantly. So it really depends but basically if the problem isn't constant than multiband compression wouldn't supress that frequency band constantly as EQ would.

    • @BigZMusic
      @BigZMusic  6 лет назад +1

      It may look like the effect is constant with the MB compressor but it’s really compressing the sound by different amounts over time depending on how high the input goes over the threshold. It’s not really constant

    • @him6944
      @him6944 6 лет назад

      @@BigZMusic ahh okay I understand. It does give the impression though that everytime the sound plays, it does hit the threshold and is compressing by pretty much the same amount but I guess that's not actually what is happening, thanks man

    • @BigZMusic

    • @PeachLover91
      @PeachLover91 6 лет назад

      too much compression... OTT is a multiband compressor but a bit simpler, I almost never find myself needing more than 2 at the most. Otherwise, your sounds are going to have ZERO character. I get that EDM doesn't worry about dynamics but totally DEMOLISHING a sound with compression usually just makes it sound tinny and weak...

    • @BigZMusic
      @BigZMusic  6 лет назад

      I use very little OTT, and sounds sit better in the mix when you compress in stages

    • @OlaB245
      @OlaB245 6 лет назад

      well sorry, but 3 multiband compressors AND 3 EQs in a row is asking for trouble. Try to fix things using a bit of EQ and if needed compression first. If you need that amount of processing to get sounds to sit in the mix you may want to look at the acoustics of your room. Not trying to be an ass, just genuine advice. (y)
