Thanks everyone for the help on the "Eton" pronunciation, we'll get it right next time! And BTW we used our hands on the fish because we just didn't really care for the tiny wooden forks 😂 Thanks for watching!
the cod and chips are amazing in cornwall
please come to suffolk
The zip on tent is called an awning and it gives you extra space when you are staying in a caravan (it's not actually zipped on BTW). The caravan you saw is a touring caravan and is towed by another vehicle (usually a car). A static caravan is what you call a trailer and we call an RV a motorhome.
Fingers is fine! thats how we eat them on the beach anyway! ;) Proper!
The Endless Adventure your not in America now....so it's not called a RV...they are called caravans
I can confirm - this was real and traditional fish and chips. You could tell the freshness from the video.
Yes proper stuff. Not like what they had in a pub in the Lake District.
False. It was not served in newspaper.
@@kjronning1 probably American with a comment like that, barely anyone does that now and hasn’t for about 30 years
they just needed to go up north and get the chips covered in proper chippy gravy.

why did it hurt so much when she said vinegar and salt instead or salt and vinegar 😂😭
just hearing the american accent say chippy i found real wierd ngl 😂

I was thinking the same thing 🤣
But we put the vinegar on first tho 😂mind blown!
I have to say that all of you come across as charming visitors (interested, polite and appreciative). You're all great young ambassadors for your country.
I really love seeing Americans or anyone who isn’t from England, go on a road trip and see everything your reactions are the best, especially to the caravans with the tents 😂
I'm from Scotland and just took my American husband to Scotland for the first time last month and his reactions were priceless!
Haha good description of your thoughts man haha if that makes sense? Your comment made me smile haha I know what you mean man.. peace x

This is England. The weather forecast is : if it's not raining, it's going to rain.
If it's not raining it's too cold and if not it's too hot
Charles Blains ikr
Yes, we have two seasons; the wet season and the very wet season.
England Home of unpredictable whether
It actually doesn’t rain that much in England though, at least in the South. It’s just overcast a lot of the time. Tropical countries have far more rain than we do. It’s a common misconception about England.
You haven't had a real British fish and chips experience until you have had to fight off a seagull!
the herring gulls on Ilfracombe Pier are dead hard..just saying
Like a boss fight init 😂
I got attacked by a seagull on the slipway in St Ives. It wanted my pasty and it ambushed me from behind. I held on for dear life and it did not get my pasty

£4.80 for Haddock & chips is pretty cheap! It's over £10 up here in Shetland.....No idea why, we're surrounded by bloody fish!
Because you have Sturgeon lol.
Unfortunately....

£3.50 in south leeds for a large fish and chips Nelson Fisheries Morley
@@aidenleeds Wow! Here in Plymouth that will cost almost twice as much at my local chippy.
4:34 "Now we're going to go back out into this sludge. This sucks, it hasn't let up a bit has it?" Just as a Brit walks past in a T shirt and jeans. HaHaHaHa.
XD
In Cornwall that is mizzle.
Drizzle for the rest of the UK, well the North West at least, or if you're Peter Kay "IT'S SPITTING, IT'S SPITTING!!!"
In the USA its shizzle :)
I remember the time it was supposed to be a massive heat wave so no one would brought their rain coats.. Then the obligatory rain storm would arrive and it would be the biggest downpour ever, everyone would be running into wilkos for bin liners.
That one summer when you'd be walking around and everyone in the town was wearing polythene black bin bags with holes cut out for head and arms was the most surreal I'd experienced, it was like some Vivien Westwood fashion extravaganza.
I don't know why, but in most chippies i've been in it's pretty normal to get enough chips to feed a small family with just one portion.
Yep, my local one is like that. Two fish and one portion of chips will do the job for two people. I asked the owner about it and his philosophy was that it's only a spud and costs him next to nothing. Large portions means people come back and the profit is on everything else. Massive profit on gravy and peas.
thomes............thats why you brexit brits are getting fatter than the yanks......at least your queen still eats good healthy german food.
Barbara Hallinan. I think you could be overgeneralising.
Because she is German.
My last trip to the UK I REALLY wanted chips, so I ordered two....they basically brought me a trough of them! Lesson learned.
What I find so funny is that you are SO positive! You’re like ‘oh it’s freezing... it’s gotten worse it hasn’t let up dang “ and it’s raining and we need extra blankets but hey ho it’s cool...” us brits would be like “Effin rain lets go home ! “ 😂
I've been to other countries where the rain came bucketing down but it was all part of the experience and didn't dampen our spirits at all. Maybe its because we were on holiday? I think we have had rain (or snow) just about every day since the new year started and I can truthfully say my spirits left about 3 weeks ago - but I'm at home and its different when your at home! In Italy at least it was warm rain... lol
with the temps in the USA at the moment I think you will find that a lot of Americans are used to far worse weather than the UK serves up. i saw it got down to -50 in part of Minnesota the other night! gulp! Too cold for an Aussie, -10C is about my limit.
A Tent settlement is called a campsite.
Unless it's in Europe for refugees
Chippies traditionally served their food wrapped in newspaper. It was stopped because of food safety standards. That's where the saying 'today's news is tomorrow's chip paper' comes from.
Wonder if they'll ever bring that back? Maybe it was eu thing.
Nicky L ours still use the unprinted paper....its makes em taste a helluva lot better.
Yeah most of the ones here in Scotland use the plain paper too. Defo better than polestyrene.
My local chippy still uses paper, but one of the owners said newspaper was better for some reason that I can't remember. Also those polystyrene cartons can get damaged by oil from the fish (i've seen it happen) so watch out for that.
i didnt hear anybody say that in ever.
In my student years in Britain from Hong Kong we have fish and chips wrapped in Newspaper and we always requested for The Sun Page 3 !
PlaceOfOrigin still, the daily star does it which is good 😂
Lar M good choice there my friend.
Simon Beresford indeed. She could sit on my face and peddle my ears like a tricycle
The Daily Star always had better page 3 girls anyway.
As for Sam Fox, she always reminded me of Sharon from Eastenders aka Miss Piggy so I never found her attractive.
Whats missing there mate is a load of Bread and Butter And a BIG mug of Tea.....
*salivates*
And proper chippy sauce.
mushy peas
Mushy Peas too
Possibly carton of small curry sauce for occasional dips
Has to be champagne . Trust me .
Fish and chips, full english breakfast... you need a mug of tea to strip the grease at the end. Then you'll understand our obsession with tea.

Or Ben Shaws Shandy works too
Hah. Agree... but the English Breakfast came from Italy via Scotland!!! I know... I found it hard to believe too...

It's not called Breading, it's called batter. Glad you enjoyed it.
It honestly doesn't rain all the time in England! This summer has been ridiculously hot. And I would recommend Cornwall to any American who wants to visit England. Beautiful countryside, cute little seaside villages, good food, and it's probably the only part of the UK where the sea is actually blue and clear
Hearing the rain on the tent brings back some great childhood memories.
That's the proper way to eat fish & chips with your fingers, hope you really enjoyed your stay here in the UK, Cheers ;-)
I was quite jealous when I saw the fish & chips, it looked really good. Now I'm hungry!
These are very good ambassadors for the US!
What a charming vlog, I really enjoyed watching and am pleased you liked Cornwall.
The little “tents” on the side of the caravans are called awnings
The fish is cooked in batter made with beer! This makes it quickly form a light airtight crust around the fish, which therefore never even touches the cooking oil or fat. The steam you see on opening the result shows how the fish has basically been poached. Nothing could be better. I'm hungry.
Glad you liked it. There are real chippys in every town / main street in the UK, not just the coast by the way. You can only get 'real' fish and chips from a chippy, u will never get it the same at a pub or cafe or anywhere else, has to be a chippy, and they are everywhere. some better than others granted, but the taste is the same style. Oh, and you missed out on mushy peas!!!!!! Another point of interest is that i can confirm that having spent some time in New Zealand, their fish n chips is identical to the UK and just as popular, they took that over from us, also in Australia its exactly the same and very popular. I couldn't live without fish n chips, its a heavy meal sure, but boy is it satisfying!
I agree with what you say
But don't put down a pub lunch proper pubs do great food
But not fish and chips
I don't know bud , most fish and chips round my town and multiple others surrounding my town are absolute rubbish you actually get a bad stomach due to the oil that they are using :(
@@pezza2100
Depends on where u live tbh
From my experience fish and chips r better up north
@@robbybobby357 I found the fish & chips in NZ okay, but was really disappointed with the pies from the bakers.
In some of the towns up the Bruce Highway in Queensland there are some great 'traditional' pie shops that sell meat, meat and potato, cheese & onion and even found one serving Cornish Pasties that were pretty close to the ones from Hayle in Cornwall (If you know Hayle - you'll know which ones I mean).
Oops blimey... I sort of went off on one then didn't I?
Look! I like pies - OK?
You have ticked another requisite off the 'Typical British Holiday Experience' Checklist: Hearing the relentless rain bounce off your caravan or tent roof. I love that memory.
you two are just awesome. Loved watching your videos as they were all down-to-earth and you called it as you saw it. You were off the beaten track and took us to places we have never seen before. Thanks very much. How you put away all that food is beyond me lol
I'm watching this, literally thinking "Where are the wooden forks? Why are they using their hands to eat the fish? Why haven't the seagulls come and nicked the whole thing yet?" and then magically the wooden forks appeared.
SomeBloke8895 who eats fish and chips with a fork anyway??
SomeBloke8895 I'm thinking... I want 🐠 and chips right now lol
+bigkiwial , Ikr.. i've noticed allot of people in this comment section saying "head north for the best" or "X place has the best fish & chips" or "this town has the best". Having travelled all around the country the best barometer of a good/bad chippy _regardless_ of where you are in the country is weather you can eat it with your fingers & not get too greasy... because they taste the best with the only utensils you need... your fingers. :)
You dont eat Fish and chips with a wooden fork you great woooos
Fish and chips = fingers. No cutlery required.
I spent my childhood holidays camping in Cornwall with the pouring rain. Great times 😃
That was definitely proper fish and chips 100% and I've tasted loads!
As a Brit I would live off fish and chips if I could especially living on the south coast so it’s normally fresh 👍 Always buy a pint of strongbow when I go to the local chippy
Why not try cider one day instead?
As an old traveller I love your videos, reminds me of my younger self.
I feel your pain with the rain but just remember without it the UK wouldn,t be so beautiful and green.x
Mushy peas!! Need the mushy peas ;)
Not so common down here in the southwest. I like them but they're not so popular here.
they are on the wirral don't for get the butty
Hi guys. I moved away from Mevagissey, Cornwall more than 30 years ago and your video of the area has brought back many memories, especially fish and chips and Cornish pasties. I do remember Mr Kelly very well as he gave a lot of casual employment to the local people in the summer season. Thanks for the memory.
I just love the reactions. As stated below, you really should've tried a real cornish pasty too.
Fun fact: The design of the pasty, with the crust at the edge, was so the tin miners could hold the crust and eat the pasty, then throw the crust. ;)
those tent things attached to the caravans are called awnings , most caravaners use them in the UK so they can sit outside and not get soaked by the rain :)
David Culshaw europe in general... scandinavians use them aswell...
Awnings also shelter you from the hot sun but thats a Yorkshire thing (sunshine) ;)
I am glad you enjoyed our English food! The fish and chips looked great. Local Ice Cream is also worthwhile. Cornwall is a beautiful county. Being so far from London, the people love tourists because they are almost they only way to earn money in Cornwall. :-)
Uhh London’s not that far loool
Not far enough if you are Cornish. ;)
Wow, I have spent many holidays on Trevornick as a kid! I'm glad you enjoyed the wonder that is fish & chips. I'm also glad it rained, for the authentic Cornwall experience.
Love rewatching your older videos.
The Endless Adventure. You seem like nice people, I hope Britain treated you well on your stay, you are always welcome.
I'm afraid the weather is unpredictable, but it's what makes our country green and great too, we are rarely short of fresh water! It's also the number one talking point and conversation ice breaker! In my opinion there is nowhere better than a warm English summer morning in July, or sitting in a pub in front of roaring log fire in the winter, so you get the full extremes. Now onto the food!
Looks like you went to a good place for fish and chips, Mevagissey in Cornwall. Quality varies from chippy to chippy but yours looked so fresh and tasty I want to try it myself from this place! But if you do it again may I offers some tips? Like skip breakfast and wait till you're really hungry, it tastes even better then and you can eat it all. We hate waste you see.
Fish and chips is one of the top dishes of the world (even famous chefs and critics will agree), and no harm in dressing it up a bit! So...
Great on it's own with salt and vinegar eaten with fingers, but awesome with mushy peas, curry sauce, bread and butter, lashings of hot tea. Of course you can eat it this way with a knife and fork (no rules) but remember always go to a traditional chip shop, it's simply never the same in a posh restaurant. This is basically British street food and we love it that way. Now for pudding!
Cornish ice cream comes no better than what you tried so you had the best. How do I know? Long ago I once worked for Mr Kelly. He used the best Cornish milk and cream from Cornwall's lush wet green pastures. He was Italian.
Need I say more?
That fish looks absolutely perfect. A simple dish but it doesn't need any other flavourings.
Orrrrr! That looks so cosy to be in with the rain aswell! Great video! sorry about the weather guys! Summers coming😆
you need some mushy peas with your fish & chips
Have stayed in tents like that many many times all over France. Makes for a cheap family holiday.
These are great videos and have made me fall in love with my Country all over again!!! Thank you
I was lucky to travel to London, England and Edinburgh, Scotland in 1992 - while in Edinburgh I ate lunch two days in a row at The Clam Shell just down the street from St. Giles - the fish and chips were to die for - I thought I'd died and gone to heaven - VERY generous portions - and I was reminded by two elderly Scottish gents that the Scots use Haddock (which I love) and the English use Cod for their fish - the malt vinegar sauce is delicious - I have an empty bottle of Gold Star brown sauce that was a souvenior - love the memories - wish I had not waited so long to see both places.
Mikki Mack and yet the ignorant still love to mock British food and British teeth, both of which are terrific.
Never had any problems finding fish and chips when I was in Scotland. Seems like nearly every block had a fish bar, and they were all wonderful. Never tried any from a pub, though. Probably just as well.
Nothing WRONG with pub fish and chips (in general, I'm sure there are bad place and good places) it's jst not as good as a good dedicated fish and chip shop.
Make sure you try a Cornish Cream Tea. (Scones, fruit or plain with Clotted Cream and Strawberry or Raspberry jam). The tent attached to a caravan or motor home is called an awning. If we could guarantee sunshine they probably wouldn't be needed.
Nah, go to Devon for that
Jam First!!!!!
You guys are too cute. Your enthusiasm for everything you try warms my heart (even the pub fish and chips). Good luck to you x
Great adventure vid, guys! Glad you had a lovely time in Cornwall and really enjoyed the fish & chips! Thank you for being so polite about our food and sorry the weather was so bad. It usually is in Britain, I’m afraid.
I’ve been going to Cornwall for holidays so many times over the years, and there’re so many lovely towns/villages to explore. If you get the chance to come back to Cornwall, I recommend places like Bude, Mevagissey, Morgan Porth and Port Isaac (to name only a few). So many fab beaches and places. Cornwall is ace.
I’ve subscribed to your channel. Looking forward to seeing your other vids. Happy travelling!
Thick chips soak up less fat than fries.
Trucker Jay In the UK r
Not expecting to see you here 😂
Definitely. To a degree anyways as overly thick chips do end up soaking up oil and leeching starchy tattie water into your oil.
tomroberts101 Chip shop chips have less surface area than fries, so will ultimately soak up less of the oil.
@@EVILBUNNY28 hot oil and cooking twice they don't soak up oil, that only happens if the oil isn't hot enough, so true what you said thicker the chip soak less oil, American french fries are full of oil
You stayed where I used to holiday as a child! We used to stay in those exact tents hahaha!💛

What a lovely video - thank you for posting and glad you liked our country we share with so many :-)
Awesome, better than any so called "professional" travel programme I've ever seen because it gives a more real experience of the places they go and the sort things you're likely to see when travel programmes go places most people can't afford, so give you a true experience of what it's like to visit these places on a budget.
That ice-cream flavour is pronounced EE-ton mess. Eton is a famous and elite school, the kind of place where David Cameron the previous Prime-Minister went. It was (apparently) a dessert that got invented by accident with bits of broken meringue and sugared (and for adults, some liqueur) strawberries rippling through whipped vanilla cream. It's delicious :D
I appreciate that it's tough, but the amount of mispronounced English words/place names is this video really got to me by the end.
Meh, only time and experience will fix that, just as if I were to go to the USA, probably.
TheBaconWizard - Exactly. If you've never heard a certain word how are you supposed to know how it's pronounced?
+ Jay Smith Yes, but Eton is one of the most famous schools in the world. Do people really not know how to pronounce it?
No. It is Pronounced "EE" not "EH"
fish and chips are the best - best eaten near the sea - the mix of fish n chips and sea air can't be beaten - best eaten out of newspaper, although they don't do that anymore - i remember that when i was a kid in the 50s and 60s - delicious!!!
The main reason for the preferal as regards British fish & chips is the fact that you One could be eating fish that was caught that very day of eating
Fish n chips looked lush and the tent/caravan holiday I've had great times, even when it's rained 👍
Hey guys, it's not always rainy and horrible it's just that it's so changeable particularly in the south-west where the land is so exposed to the sea.
Hot summer days are obviously the best and the blue skies and blue seas really change the dimension of the place.
Still my most favourite place in the country.
In the city I live in Bloomington Ill, there is a double decker English style bus that serves authentic English food, called Two Blokes and A Bus, you can get you food and leave, or go up to the second floor and sit and dine. They are always in a different location, but the food is really good. I have had the fish and chips, and if it any thing like what you had, I completely understand what you were saying.
James Masters: The 'second floor' (first floor throughout the British Isles) is correctly termed upper deck, or even top deck. That's why they are known by the colloguial term 'double-decker'.
The ice cream flavour you chose Eton Mess is pronounced Eeee - ton Mess after a pudding dropped in the posh school - hence the mess! :)
wow that tent looks super cosy!!! and the fish n chips looks amazing, man it must be cosy eating fish n chips by the docks and staying in super cosy a tent when its raining outside!
Lol sorry about the weather, that is a proper British Holiday you are enjoying, getting soaked is part of the fun! Looks like you enjoyed it despite the rain! Dealing with this weather is character building!

You really diminish the stereotype of Americans being loud obnoxious bigots, glad you enjoyed my country
As an english expat living in thailand for the last 12 years, I sooooo miss my english fish and chips, but not the weather.
Being able to have fun even when it’s raining. That’s a British holiday.
I feel I should apologise for the horrible weather...but that's the UK for you I'm afraid!
Where does that idea come from? It’s so hot here
Don't apologize. The weather is brilliant
Jokes on you were having best summer in decades
Why apologise? We have no shortage of fresh water, lovely green fields and a conversation point!
MouthstickGaming why? At least we in the uk have real weather, it varies. We can and do have four seasons in one day. Our countryside is lush and green most of the time, our cattle is outside for more than half the year, our seasons change, we rarely suffer extremes of weather, we are quite warm for such a northern country. Yet *you* feel you need to apologise.

Regrettably I live in Manchester, UK and you just can't get decent fish and chips for love or money. I could tell from your video you both hit Fish and Chip gold in Cornwall, as would be expected. Regrettably I live far too far away to be able to pop in to the shop and get some. Glad you got to sample what used to be our national dish. These days curry is said to be our favourite. Well, not for this ancient fish n chips lover!!
Tootle on over to the Yorkshire coast for the weekend if you have the time and cash. Places like Whitby and Scarborough will have you covered on the Fish and Chip front.
Hi Vicky, yes you are quite right. Unfortunately I don't drive and at 70 tootling anywhere, especially on a Sunday, is a bit of a pain!! That said, I used to travel by train to Harrogate and bus to Knaresborough and have thoroughly enjoyed gorgeous fish and chips in the famous shop there. Maybe it's time to stir the olde stumps and stay in a B&B for a few nights!! Thanks for the reply!
I thought living in Manchester you would have a decent chippy in walking distance ,but I suppose like all the great English things it's rapidly all disappearing.
Cornish clotted cream fudge is amazing...

Out of all the Americans that post VLOGs about being in the UK - YOU are the most grounded, gracious, interesting and intelligent. Keep up the good work, love it!
I love hearing the rain.
RE: Your question about zip on RV tents. Those aren't RVs, we call them Caravans. Because our caravans are hooked up to a car, and often smaller than one of your large RVs, it allows us to have an extra bit of room so a family aren't climbing all over eachother. They also provide fresh air without the risk of getting soaked.
I think if our Caravans were the size of your RVs, we would only have awnings rather than space maximising tents. But then, anyone who has a caravan needs to have their head examined, but that's a different topic for another day.
very unlucky with the weather 2018 was the hottest longest dryest summer ever...
So fascinating to get an outside point of view on things which seem so everyday, like fish and chips!
Great video! Love to see Americans trying British cuisine!
I'd already decided to have some fish, chips and mushy peas for my evening meal (maybe a couple of slices of brown bread and butter). The peas are steeping in some hot water and bicarb as I write this.
Ps. Before my health went sideways I used to own and run a chippy.
You want even better fish and chips. You should go up north.
Thomas Mayer Northern 🐵
Yeah, North East coast, e.g. Whitby or Scarborough.
just anywhere by the seaside is the best fish and chips - Cornwall included
Yup
North.. No.. Cornwall is great
Usually it is a malt vinegar which is fantastic. I loved exploring England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. So much history.
There's nothing better than real fish and chips followed up by ice cream! Lovely part of the world,i must get back there soon as my best childhood holiday memories are there!
next time have fish and chips with mushy peas and some bread and butter. The best place for fish and chips is Whitby, North Yorkshire, Padstow & Looe in Cornwall are also very good for fish 'n' chips
David Heptinstall Definitely the best I've had were in Looe!
Hey boys and girls you were not in St Austell eating your fish and chips you were in a fish village called Mevagissey.
+fred ekaeron we were actually in St Austell at first, then drove to Mevagissey - forgot to mention it!
Mevagissey is amazing. Didn't know anything about it but was staying at a Travel Lodge in St Austell and we went out for a little drive before bed, found this gem of a place and was absolutely blown away!
Buckblacket Meva is nice to look at but full of chavs
You are brave to call Cornwall, English.
Keith Mathews well whether Cornish people like it or not Cornwall is in England
The zip on to the caravan/trailer is called an annex. A lot of caravans in Australia have them. They can be used as an extra bedroom or a eating/ family area. A lot of the newer vans just have a pull-out awning.
I camp every year in Trevornick, have a few videos on my channel. It's a great place, very nice in the sun too. BTW that 'little tent on the RV', they're called 'Awnings'. They effective double your living area, and people tend to use them as the lounge area. Good when it's raining, and you want to get your good gear off before going in your RV.
Great video guys!
If you ever come back over to the UK and travel thought Staffordshire you have to try a north staffordshire oatcake

Haha yes they should! Personal favourite, cheese, bacon and tomato!
Paul Hurst: Just picture the average tourist making the journey to England and then making a bee-line for Staffordshire just to sample bloody oatcakes. Then once they've sated their hunger for oatckakes heading straight back home.

Ive found that chippy on big curved corner on the east side to be the best in Whitby so far. They do skin on like fried fish is meant to be.
Whats it called mate ? The one i got to, is just a little bit outside of the centre so its not so well known to tourists, but is always full with the locals. The people in there are really lovely people too.
Hadleys on church street. Occasionally a queue but nothing like the touristy second mortgage type places like Trenchers and The Magpie.
Emperor of Yorkshire I'm American, spent a month in GB this past July, I miss proper fish & chips as well. And, Toad in the Hole.
Ill try it next time im over mate. My brother insisted to go the the magpie last year, fish was about half the size what you get at the other places, and it was more expensive. Wont be going there again.
Enjoyed your video.
You were very sensible to try fish and chips at the coast.
Lol. It was great to see you having fun and showing a bit of the good old Stiff Upper Lip with the rain. Next time try rock pooling or come across to my part of Dorset to fossil find on Mudeford beach.
