- Sri Lankan cuisine is known for its particular combinations of herbs, spices, fish, vegetables, rices, and fruits. The cuisine is highly centered around many varieties of rice, as well as coconut which is an ubiquitous plant throughout the country. Seafood also plays a significant role in the cuisine, be it fresh fish or preserved fish. As a country that was a hub in the historic oceanic silk road, contact with foreign traders brought new food items and cultural influences in addition to the local traditions of the country's ethnic groups, all of which have helped shape Sri Lankan cuisine. Influences from Indian (particularly South Indian), Indonesian and Dutch cuisines are most evident with Sri Lankan cuisine sharing close ties to other neighbouring South and Southeast Asian cuisines.

Dany, originally from Vietnam, showcased her culinary skills on Masterchef Australia Season 3, securing 4th place. A memorable highlight was when she prepared Sri Lankan cuisine for the Dalai Lama and emerged victorious in the challenge, despite her initial unfamiliarity with Sri Lankan food. Kumar, a fellow contestant hailing from Sri Lanka, generously imparted his knowledge to Dany, which she gratefully acknowledged during the episode featuring the Dalai Lama. Witnessing this video was truly surprising. Now, Dany has returned to the competition in a new season, demonstrating her mastery of delicious Sri Lankan dishes once again.

Why? In Australia, people eat Sri Lankan food with cutlery. Only in Sri Lankan households will there be people who might eat with the right hand but we generally use cutlery.

unfortunately I love their food in Sydney.. but I had them move in next door as well... they are ridiculously dumb neighbours. You do not treat people like they do... EVER. "I would not p.i.s.s on them" if their tiny tiny brain was on fire as we say in Australia...
