I was stop by a motorcyclist and he literally told me that none of my brakes lights were on and I could've sworn all my lights were places 6 months ago and when I saw the check engine light. I google and now here I am on RUclips watching your video so I can finish replacing my switch as well because god damn...driving at night without brake lights is a major no no. Thank you
Thanks for sharing your work with us! Just a tip here: Before replacing the switch, check the condition of the plastic bushing on the brake pedal bracket that contacts the switch plunger. For me, it was disintegrating and worth the check (green plastic on my ‘03). I simply siliconed a nickel on the bracket and the switch was able to make good contact again! 😆
This switch is super easy to take apart and clean. I just did mine because I was having brake light and cruise control issues. The OEM cruise control version costs 90 at the dealer and 65 online at the moment. Just take yours apart and clean the connections with a pencil eraser and some deoxit or alcohol, test the resistance with a volt meter to be 0 ohms when the first spring is down on the two small prongs, then 0 ohms when the second spring is down on the two big prongs. The two big prongs pop out and give you access to the bigger spring and copper plunger/connection. It will take you 30 minutes and save you 50-60 bucks. Don't throw your OEM parts away, especially small electrical switches, you can fix them in 10-30 minutes with some patience. Less waste, more money in your pocket, better quality product too, it lasted 23 years. Got a duralast starter that broke in just 2 years. Replaced it OEM. Never again. The OEM lasted 20+ years! If you're thinking "I don't know if I can do that might as well buy a new one..." Try it first! If you break it, then buy a new one!
Thanks for posting this video, this helps out a bunch as my brake lights blew a fuse and all diagnosis are pointing to this switch on my Tacoma. I'll pass on the Supra! Many thanks!
Thanks for the awesome vid- you already know about the music level (but I still heard the ice cream truck in the background :) A bad switch in a Gen 2 Prius will mean a no-start situation; pretty much a similar job so thanks for the demo.
Before you spend money on a new switch, adjust your current one! It is possible that it was installed wrong and either needs to be unscrewed before tightening, or screwed in further. My tacoma brake lights werent coming on unless I stomped really hard on the brakes. I unscrewed my stoplight switch probably 4 turns and then re-tightened it, now the light comes on if I breathe on the brake pedal!
@@davidswestcoastpainting8510 hey buddy thanks for the reply back, I found my problem it was just a fuse for the stoplight under the dash..... Again thanks for the video 👍
My brake lights only come on when I turn on my high beam head light. The fuses are good. All bulbs good. Can the brake lights come on without the brakes when turning on the head lights?
When your headlights are on, your low dim rear lights must also come on, when you step on the brakes the brighter red should turn on. Check fuses again, something has to be loose or you have s shortage somewhere. Check all cables.

Thank you for the help! The other guy's videos were too much rambling about car parts and not enough instruction.
Excellent Video. All together it was a Commando Operation. Well Done!

The music is to loud

Would’ve been better without the music so I could actually hear what you’re saying
Good job buddy keep up good videos
Thanks
Hey thanks for the video was just wondering was your vehicle stuck in park with the bad switch.... Also was your ABS light on... Thanks again

Didn't show how to get the dash and ducting out of the way. Can't hear you for the music.
Was this switch being broken making it so you could not take your truck out of park ?
I have a 05 Toyota Avalon the brake light switch I need to find out where it's located in the car to change
.
Check the brake pedal...switch should be there along the brake pedal....unless it has changed over the years....
1st comment gets the Supra.
Same deal with my 2004, got pulled over buy sheriff. Running lights work no brake light. Thanks.
Can't hear a damn thing you're saying with the music playing in the back ground.
