Looks like another advantage of lacquer is less worry about overspray drifting to damage objects 10 ft away since it evaporates fast to leave a dry dust that doesn't stick. Why that bed and car were left uncovered in the background. Is the primer also a lacquer? Did you use a 2-part catalyzed lacquer? Ever have problems with it lifting older finishes like a varnish or latex paint?
Primer or rather called sealer/ undercoater is also lacquer... Is a precatalized lacquer, so yes, mix lacquer with the hardener. Only once did I have issues with what's called alligator skin reaction, the homeowner had sprayed some cheap latex paint on handrails for touch ups, so when applied the sealer you could see the wrinkled paint and dried up as alligator skin......we sanded it all down, resealed it and no issues.
So you spray the M610 first over the cabinet?
Yes, it's like a primer, basically spray that over any surface that you will be applying lacquer finish to, it ensures proper bonding of the final coat.
Why are you playing music?
Same deal with my 2004, got pulled over buy sheriff. Running lights work no brake light. Thanks.
I always use a small brush to get inside the corners and edges first before a spray.
Next time cut the music off
Before you spend money on a new switch, adjust your current one! It is possible that it was installed wrong and either needs to be unscrewed before tightening, or screwed in further. My tacoma brake lights werent coming on unless I stomped really hard on the brakes. I unscrewed my stoplight switch probably 4 turns and then re-tightened it, now the light comes on if I breathe on the brake pedal!
what do you sand them with?
220 sand paper... worn out works best
Why did you go single turbo then?
Can't hear a damn thing you're saying with the music playing in the back ground.
I must have missed something. I was expecting a clear coat of lacquer. Came out beautiful but different color.
Went from a stained to solid color. Lacquer is integrated color and sheen finish in same can.
@@davidswestcoastpainting8510 thanks very much for explaining. I’m looking at videos trying to find a good precat lacquer to spray a large white oak frame I just completed. In looking I just came across your video. Great result. Thanks again.
Mohawk catalyzed white primer So that’s is water base? The one you just used
Do you ad retardant?
Thank you for your time it helped me understand. God bless you 🙏😇
Do your self a favor get some work horses
What product is this? I am at the store SW and they do not have any lacquer finish...
The Sherwin-williams paint company does have lacquer products like the sher-wood. Some stores carry it and some don't but they definitely sell lacquer. Ask for a sales representative as they have more knowledge than someone at the cash register...
@@davidswestcoastpainting8510 I found a store that carry gallery. Going to get it tomorrow.
At idle it sounds exactly like mine, very deep. Good mod overall. thanks for review and drive safe bro.
Butiful ❤
What kind caulking do you recommend for cabinets?
I like using the Alex fast dry and Sherwin-williams 1050 quick dry
If you start off with saying...no ngative comments... you're going to get negative comments.
What tip are you using . Is that a 208 or a 210 or a 311
I think I used a 312 or 410
Hello sir, what do you do with solvent pops with lacquer, how do you avoid them
I think you refer to "fish eye" looks like small 🫧 bubbles but most pops leaving a 0 ring...either thin down or let dry, sand and recoat.
@@davidswestcoastpainting8510 can I send you a picture of the door

Using a air sprayer from husky. I am using sw emerald spray for tip coats. Would you suggest the sw extreme bond or there shellac out of a spray gun for primer?
You should be okay to use extreme bond. However if the surface you are spraying has an existing paint that is oil, then use Shellac. Other wise you should be fine.
@@davidswestcoastpainting8510 Great thanks! Have you ever sprayed with it or emerald? It does say not to reduce but it would be impossible to shoot without thinning with water.
What lacquer spray you used? And spray tip?
I think we used the Sherwin-williams lacquer and used the 410 fine finish green tip....
Can't hear you
Are you using an airless sprayer to spray the lacquer? Where did you buy it and what brand and Medel number is it?
It's a special sprayer for Lacquer...look up the Titan ED655 plus. They work great, never brake down and will always deliver a great finish. Easy to setup and clean. I have a few other videos where I show the sprayer.
Thank you for getting back to me. I will buy one tomorrow. I’m doing my work old school with an air compressor and it gets tiring hauling it around and some times it takes a while to set up the hvlp and I’m limited on spray capacity. How do you clean yours if you don’t mind me asking also do you think the material? Have you ever sprayed clear lacquer with it?
@Juan Anguiano this is a game changer. It's easy to use, I clean with lacquer thinner and only spray lacquers with it. I have 2 sprayers. One for dark lacquer and the other for lite off whites and the clears. I clean them with lacquer and leave clean lacquer in the bucket at least 1qt and seal the lid with tape so it doesn't evaporate. I do use them constantly, so I'm not worried about rust or sticky parts. You can not go wrong with lacquer. It's a bit of trial and error if you don't have someone teaching you, but all can be fixed. Just keep air circulation on your job sites and no flames/smoking, etc, close to you when spraying.
Thanks for the tips. Any other tips i do have experience spraying lacquer paint and clear finish with hvlp guns. Do you thin the material at all I use vista paint lacquer clear and paint finishes I’ve been using them for about 2 years now. What would be your best tip in getting a fine finish for a first time user on airless? Thank you I really appreciate all your help. You should upload more videos you do great work brother.
Where do you get your Mohawk lacquer from?
i get it from Shilpark stores...i live in san diego California and we have a few stores.
I jokinglee tell my homeowners that tape is for homeowners.
Not using tape is for the lazy and the cheap. Be a pro....put the time and $ into it. Get pro results.
Can you share what kind of primer or lacquer you used. Help.
been a while on this video cant remember the primer/undercoater but its basically called undercoater (primer) and you can get different brands from mostly any paint company. always ask for undercoater and top coat.
This switch is super easy to take apart and clean. I just did mine because I was having brake light and cruise control issues. The OEM cruise control version costs 90 at the dealer and 65 online at the moment. Just take yours apart and clean the connections with a pencil eraser and some deoxit or alcohol, test the resistance with a volt meter to be 0 ohms when the first spring is down on the two small prongs, then 0 ohms when the second spring is down on the two big prongs. The two big prongs pop out and give you access to the bigger spring and copper plunger/connection. It will take you 30 minutes and save you 50-60 bucks. Don't throw your OEM parts away, especially small electrical switches, you can fix them in 10-30 minutes with some patience. Less waste, more money in your pocket, better quality product too, it lasted 23 years. Got a duralast starter that broke in just 2 years. Replaced it OEM. Never again. The OEM lasted 20+ years! If you're thinking "I don't know if I can do that might as well buy a new one..." Try it first! If you break it, then buy a new one!
where do you get the sprayer?
Get it at any paint store or go online and look up ed 655 plus...roughly 8-900 dollars...well worth it
why didn't you show which paint you used I went to sherwin Williams and they didn't know what I was talking about
they should know, ask for a sales rep or manager, sometimes the guy at the front desk dont have much experience as the sales rep and manager therefor might not know all the product they sell. williams carries the aqua lacquer and regular nitro along with the Sherwood lacquer. hope this helps
You’re able to paint lacquer over caulking?
Yes but caulking must be fully dry, usually over nigh, else it will crack very very soon rather than later.
Should I use siliconized or regular acrylic caulk ? For lacquer
Is that white under coat
Yes....undercoater 1st then the topcoat
I was told only use gel stain for door exterior, then top coat. What kind of stain was that and how long does it last
Gel stains are definitely heavier pigmented/concentrated and will last longer without "aging" per say however it really also depends on the top coat & sun exposure. I used mixwax stain but a special marine coating that lasts years without flaking, cracking, or hazing away. Maintaining the doors is a must, or else one must refinish which is lots of work and expensive. Every 3-4yrs lite sanding and topcoat.
@David's West Coast Painting thanks. I've purchased old masters gel stain and total boat spar varnish. But I really like the water base Minwax solid color stain I bought from lowes, but Minwax email & said not to use no matter what top coat.
@D R minwax water base solid color is like a paint, you will not see the wood grain but can be used directly without the need of a primer. What are you trying to achieve? Is it a door, fence or? Solid, semi-solid are usually water base but mostly used for fences, decks, gazebos etc...
@@davidswestcoastpainting8510 exterior side of wood doors( mahogany). Dont want a light tint to the stain. Tried 3 coats oil base penetrating, just didn't get dark enough to make look black. Want the solid paint look but without painting . Want to be able to tell it's a real wood door
@D R why don't you try Ebony or dark walnut or a combination of both or one coat after the other.....
Is that a low pressure machine. ? Was the psi. Thx
How do you clean the sprayer after using lacquer?
Run clean Lacquer Thinner.
@@davidswestcoastpainting8510 thanks!
How do you paint the cabinet base when it’s fake wood? Like plastic veneer?
Use a vinyl sealer or Shellac primer from zinsser. Can't go wrong either one
Supras are absolute beasts, its a shame they are so rare in my area
they are rare but there are so many out still, just some owners don't drive them since they are such a gem...
320 grid. its a better super fine finish. good job ..
Thanks for info
Awesome job. What laquer products do you use? I'm planning on getting into spraying laquer paints with my hvlp system
I use a variety of lacquers, why? shortages have driven me to use all and makes me more practical. I use alot of mohawk and axalta/Gemini. Hvlp is great for touchups but if you are doing kitchens and bigger projects then might want to consider the ED655 Plus by Titan. It's great sprayer and can make u lots of $$
@@davidswestcoastpainting8510 thanks I was just curious what most pros use since I'm fairly new to solvent based products. I'm planning to use waterborne laquer products to cut the smell down since my shop is small and not the greatest air flow. I hear they are just as good if not more durable. not sure if you use those or solvent only.
@@DRV_Woodworks I have used William's Aqua Chem and must say I'm impressed with the way it flows and dries..smell is for sure less and clean up is water 💧 👌 but I still clean up with regular lacquer...it's best as they claim it's a none yellowing in the long run and its resistant to scuffs and hot/cold or even long time water marks...spill water and forget to clean it it's a problem....but I stick to the 550voc as they are great
Shouldn't caulk
Some clients want it caulked...client is always ✅️....I do get you though...
I know this is an old video, but I thought lacquer was only white do you add color or does it come in colors. thanks
Sup KR...video is not that old man..and yes the lacquer comes white or any color you like it all depends where u go buy it and if they Tint them. Almost every paint stores carries lacquers although some stores will not custom Tint them but they will most likely refer you to one of their stores that does. Lacquer comes in any color you'd like and in abfew sheens (shininess) matte, satin, semi-gloss, gloss and piano high gloss....it's a great product.
@@davidswestcoastpainting8510 thanks for replying so fast this helps

It is super easy but that's cause I've been at it for some 20+yrs....good luck with the flips....retirement? What's that? Lol
still on hybrid twins?
Still on them...but this is a single turbo supra....those twin are reliable and fun....double the power and engine bay still looking stock
So this is a colored lacquer? Like a solid pigment type lacquer?
Beautiful door!
Thank you!
Hi, what set up were you using here (pump, gun, comp?) Thanks
I am using a Titan ED655+ with regular contractor gun and fine finish 410/412 tip. The sprayers are sold at any williams or dunn edwards stores but i am sure Amazon has them too for maybe $900-$1K. Reliable.
@@davidswestcoastpainting8510 love the finish, thank you
