Why do these youtubers keep claiming this game is a boss rush? There are level designs and 120 different non-boss mobs in the game. A brief research shows that the boss-rush idea came out of nowhere. You guys are actually just smearing for no reason.
I think people are saying that because every time they show footage of the game FOR THE MOST PART, not all the time, it's just of boss fights. They haven't really shown much npc interaction, platforming for complicated level design, etc. Hell a lot of the footage shown in this video I hadn't even seen, so it looks more explorable than I thought. I saw somewhere that there's supposed to be over 80 bosses or something. I'm not sure what potentially 80 bosses in 15 hours says about the difficulty. I'm pretty excited about this. It feels closer to games like Nioh from what I've seen, and I love that.
I find it a bit concerning that weeks before launch, we have not seen uncut extended game sequences but only very selected individual fights. Like to this point from all I have seen this looks more like a boss rush game than anything else.
I've been pretty skeptical of this game since it was first announced. I hope I am wrong in my skeptisisms, but it would not be the first time that an extremely hyped and marketed game did not meet expectations.
true.. if this is something focusing on boss rush with a staged level like DMC5, I'm glad I cancel my preorder. But I still want to see the full walkthrough first. Hope we can see it sooner
Wukong is the monkey king....those who knows Chinese folklore stories knows who the monkey king is. This game gonna be fun. Definitely gonna buy it. It's gonna be super fun.
@user-oe9ov4dv4b it's attributed to Wu Cheng'un a Chinese novelist, poet and politian during the Ming Dynasty. It's based on a Buddhist monk travelling West to get sacred texts.
15 hour boss rush sounds terrible. Usually exploration you’ll mitigate this time but if there’s none of that and no way to grind and you have to have the perfect fight each time that would be frustrating as hell to just go from fight to fight. Something as deep as Chinese mythology should have an equally immersive a explorable world. I’m prepared for a huge let down.
🤦🏿♂️ I got u…it’s obviously not a boss rush. The bosses ARE an instrumental part of the game but the there will also be grunts and mini bosses. And as far as your immersion goes..good games immerse you with the actual STORY Also we don’t know the actual game length or the pacing so don’t judge so quickly bros. We don’t have the game yet.
there has been a comment of the devs that they changed the demo gameplay to have higher concentration of bosses, actual game probably be less boss rushy
Honestly the biggest interesting thing I took away from this was learning that the story is neither Journey to the West nor a prequel to it as I was starting to expect, but a SEQUEL. That's intriguing but also a bit worrying, am I gonna need to track down and actually read Journey to the West to know what's going on here? I have vague notions of it, mostly from a Playstation SRPG of the same name that introduced me to the concept, but I've never been able to get my hands on the original before.
I don’t think you need to read the fiction itself, just basic ideas of Wukong’s characters. Like he hides his Jingubang in his ear, he can change into 72 forms, he conquered 81 monsters with his fellowship… stuff like that, just basic knowledge that every Chinese grew up with without actually reading the novel
@@xueshang1035 I do think looking at some tldr can help, at least knowing yellow brow and the melon selling buddha. Not only because they are in the trailer, but also the game's background seems to be demon king pretend to be buddha, and all real buddha disappear. In the original story, yellow brow was the demo king that pretend to be buddha and fool the gang. He was stopped with the help of melon selling buddha.
I think going through tldr and getting to know some of the main demon king/ monster's plot will help. Because when you play through the game, then you see them again it's going to be amazing. Like "oh I remember how monkey king beat this guy, glad to see this monster is doing good" or "damn this guy didn't learn from his mistake " or "no way this deity is dead, that's his corpse" that sort of thing. I heard that phisical copy of the game "the box" will have not cd is that true? So in other world to play this on PS5 you need to have internet to install even if you buy box?
7:30 the devs expect it to take 15h to beat and it costs 60 euros? Unless the game is either extremely replayable/best thing ever created that sounds like horrible value.
I'm hoping I can squeeze at least 30 hours out of the game if I do absolutely everything. I also heard there were potentially multiple endings so that would up playtime and replay ability as well. But this game is definitely right up my alley, although I would definitely enjoy it more if it were a little bit more open ended as that's what I always enjoy, I'm sure it will be a blast either way.

Thank you for sharing this information about the upcoming game Black Myth Wukong. I think that a point has now been reached where the term Soulslike starts to get overstretched, doing both the original Souls games and the new games from other developers no justice imo. And it sometimes raises expectations in the player which the game can not fulfil, because it is meant to be something very different than a classical Soulslike. I am myself quite happy that the level structure in Wukong is more similar to DMC or Bayonetta than what is usually used in Soulslike games. Many Soulslike games (excluding the recent Lords of the Fallen game from Hexworks) suffer from a boring and not really challenging level design where it is often possible to run to the next bonfire without having to have any enemy encounters (you just run or ride past them). Making the levels between the bosses only something like filler content for providing the player with upgrade materials and things like this. For an action combat game like Wukong it doesn't make any sense to have such a level structure at all and it is good that it seems that the gameplay density is going to be high due to this approach the developers have used for the game.
I woulda never thought this was a third person action adventure game. How did i survive through the 90s without RUclips telling me what kind of game im buying
Would the story be good for people who don't know the ming dynasty novel or havent seen any references in media or will the game just expect you to know certain things?
I love Souls Like games. I have played all Dark Souls, Demons souls, Elden ring, Bloodborne and Sekiro. But the souls like tag has to STOP, its getting tiresome, we already know that is a marketing ploy, but it has to stop
it's not a marketing ploy at all in this case. the devs flat out said it's not a soulslike. however, having played it, it's mechanically a soulslike. and also, yeah every studio slaps soulslike tag on stream to try to gain steam. pun intended
My expectations were right in line with this, and I'm glad to get away from something gigantic, open world, long, mazelike, or really long for a little bit. In my mind I was comparing it to Stellar Blade with a little bit of Nioh and a pinch of Sekiro, but I think a Devil May Cry or God of War comparison might be more apt? Souls games and their ilk may be my favorite to sink my teeth into, but I really do want more games emphasizing gratifying soulslike combat in a smaller, tighter package, so I'm hoping Wukong won't disappoint. At the end of the day all I want is just a great experience.
The 15 hour length was said back in 2015. It’s been 4 years and many things have changed since then. According to a leaked review it took 90 hours to 100% the game
This shit is Soulslike I can't take it anymore I'm going to buy a combat game in this style expecting some innovation and no it's Soulslike THEY DON'T INNOVATE ANYMORE IN ANYTHING

How hard is it? I’m not a fan of the insane difficulty of souls and prefer things like Jedi survivor, as such I just want an honest answer on how hard is it??
if theres something i hate in games in general its the long boss fights and it seems to be the alpha and omega of this game? or your build is so weak not doing a proper damage?
I was going to get it and probably still will but did u say 15hrs to complete it?! That's crazy and if I heard that right it's not worth it, we pay too much for that short of a game. Definitely a later game or sale pick up then.
It also has three endings and new game plus so there’s incentive to play it multiple times 👀 at least it isn’t a one and done thing like hellblade 2 is (which is only $10 cheaper but half the length)
Really hoping I enjoy this game. I’m fine with a game being linear, but to be just boss after boss with no places to explore will be a slight let down for me. Regardless, I’m extremely excited to play and preordered the deluxe version!
Can we just admit the game looks beautiful and stop picking apart something we haven’t even tried for ourselves?? A consumer can decide for his or herself whether or not the purchase was worth the money for them.
As much as I love Souls and Souls-likes, not every game needs to fit that mold. And I've been saying for years that we need more linear games, I'm getting very tired of open world everything.
Ah the souls brain rot has confused some people. I for one am so happy I don't have to deal with the open level design. I just want to get to boss and hit boss with staff. We don't need more open world/open level games, we have enough
I wanna go ahead and say that this guy's video is much more misleading than all the articles he claims are misleading. This game is NOTHING like Bayonetta/DMC gameplay. It is completely a "faster-paced Souls-like" through and through. Do NOT expect the insane combos and button inputs of DMC and Bayonetta. It is not even close to being like that. It's more like if Fromsoft actually made a character action game than it being literally like one of the popular existing character action games.
I don’t care what the developers say, everyone who has played the game early says it is a Souls like. If gamers are saying that’s what formula it follows. I believe them not the devs. The devs want everyone possible to buy their game & they know a majority will stay away if it’s a Souls like experience.
Back in 2020 the developers said it would take AT LEAST 15 hours to beat. But that was in early stages of development 4 years ago. I bet it's takes minimum double that to beat the base game.
@@p00ky76 I'm about 500 hours into Cyberpunk (purchased on release), 100 or so in Death Stranding, many hundreds in Skyrim, Elden Ring, and many more - I like to take my time lol. XD
CAN YOU JUMP IN THIS GAME? People keep calling things souls like not because of bonfires or stat management but because of the lock on, circling around enemies and attacking after a combo is done. Where something like dmc is also an action game but plays nothing like souls or nioh because it has air movement and enemy juggling etc etc. or even something like kingdom hearts or the new 40k space marine game play. Like im curious can you actually jump or is it more about the circular dance you attack then I attack almost turned based souls combat. Not saying it’s a souls like but is the combat more adjacent to it?
If it's a linear game, it's going to focus more on the story, then I recommend getting to know the tldr of the main plot with detail that introduce the battle with each demon kings. For the maximum experience. So when you see the some of the familiar monsters in game you will be like, oh I know him how did he end up like this, and wondering what happened. It's more engaging to found out previous deity is dead/ corrupted or previous little henchman become super strong. Or you when you get some op item you remember what they did in the original story, who were their previous owner. That's like another layer of experience.
So stellar blade could be its closest comparison? a hack and slash in which healing is done in real-time impeding other actions. Thnx for the info, indeed there are many people thinking this game is a souls like.
Can we all agree that we're doubling down and this IS GAME OF THE YEAR!!!!? So stoked for this specific game. It runs on handhelds too! Steam deck! Ally!
Darksiders 3 had a kind of souls hitboxy approach without stamina and with a perfect dodge system, and no other defensive options. While it had its moments, combat devolved into perfect dodging every attack and hitting the enemy straight after. Definitely need more meat on the bones than that- it seems like that is the case with WuKong.
Im glad its not a souls like game tbh 2009 Demon Souls and 2011 Dark Souls combat system is so old, it has become out dated, LET IT GO! "dodge parry, dodge parry, Attack, learn the, mobs and bosses movement", rinse and repeat .....ya ground breaking combat, let it go guys.

No. It’s perfect. We don’t need it slogged down by tons of crap for padding. 15-20 hrs is ENOUGH time for a perfect game. Plus I don’t doubt that later on free dlc will come out.
It's strange to me how many creative properties can't just be their own thing these days. There's this addictive compulsion to compare something to everything else.
What I like about the game is its graphic design, the story, Buddha temples everywhere. What I didn't like is the fact that no matter what armour, defence, mana and life points you have, your enemies may beat you with 3 attacks. If your defence, mana and life are at the maximum level you should at least be at the same level as your opponent. He cannot attack you 2/3 times in a row and almost kill you. That's unfair. The gap between normal monsters and bosses compared to the boss of every final chapter was too high. the difficulty level had to be in progression from one boss to another. Then the fact that to beat Erlang you have to use the armor from the third chapter instead of the armor you get in the sixth chapter is quite absurd. Finally, the fact that the spear you get against Erlang (the secret boss) doesn't work against the Monkey King is absurd, too. However, I'm happy that I finished the game. My rating is 6/7. Hoping they will do a better sequel.
I adored Nioh 1&2 so very happy its not a souls game. I loved Dark souls also, however loved Nioh like an Irish samurai brother. Great info thanks for posting👌
I will call Black Myth: Wukong a Soulslike the same way I call Wo Long a Soulslike, the same way I call Nioh a Soulslike, the same way I call the Remnant series Soulslike, the same way I call Thymesia a Soulslike, and the same way I call Sekiro a Soulsborne. I do not care what anyone else says. Call it what you want I'll call it what I want.
Finally, someone. It's not yet another Soulslike, thank god! And it should be visible by the footage that it isn't. I'll just copy an earlier post from me in here: "...I've played Black Myth Wukong last year at GamesCom for half an hour and it's a definite recommendation. At that time (and a year is a long time for development) it did not everything perfect but it was impressive and fun. The nitpicks I had were things that are usually fixed, like an easy exploit that led to an infinite for example. And based on that I have to disagree with the video here [the one the original comment was refering to, not this one] and agree with Game Science, it's not a Soulslike. It share some similarities because Soulslike share similarities with other action games, it's mainly the bonfires and the flask. But then you also have him do Table Hopper like evades with an after image, also a bit similar to 2B, you have four stances, or let's just call them styles you switch just like a famous style switcher and he has a Devil Trigger. There's as much, actually way more, DNA of another subgenre of third person action games in there. At least based on that playable demo that included four bosses. Even the banther before the fight, with those who can talk was familiar. It feels more like an easy to grasp character action game, somewhere between Soulslikes and those in complexity. And even if only comparing to From Software games, it would be way closer to Sekiro than the Dark Souls games. And if the dev also says it, then this is good news! The one bad thing I can say is the release date, then I'm on the way to this years GamesCom, which starts the next day, and I can't play it for almost a whole week." Oh, and it also has the crappy kind of lock on the Soulsgames, new God of War and others have. That's annoying but it's the style of the time, I guess...

Because it is... Have you seen any NPC in all the trailers and gameplay they've shown? Each video out there shows Woukon fighting a single boss like creature.
So unless we see some NPCs we gonna call it a Boss Rush.
And that's not us being negative. We are just calling it for what we've seen.

black myth DOES have a "come back when you are stronger" approach. chapter 2 is case in point:

I trust the devs know exactly what they're doing. Combat and bosses. Who cares if it's linear or whatever. You're here to fight demon after demon. I for one and super excited for that. As much as I enjoyed Elden Ring/Shadow of the Erdtree, I am really needing something that doesn't compel me to wander around investigating every corner of an open world. That's because the devs made the D E M O a boss rush.

Thats whT im thinking now too ....
🤦🏿♂️ I got u…it’s obviously not a boss rush. The bosses ARE an instrumental part of the game but the there will also be grunts and mini bosses. And as far as your immersion goes..good games immerse you with the actual STORY
Also we don’t know the actual game length or the pacing so don’t judge so quickly bros. We don’t have the game yet.
there has been a comment of the devs that they changed the demo gameplay to have higher concentration of bosses, actual game probably be less boss rushy
Monster Hunter is essentialy a 100 h boss Rush Game and people love it (theres of course more to it but i think this game wont be bad)
Because I think if the game is linear, it's probably more focus on the plot. There is a animated journey to the west youtube series you can check out. It's really quick, and the story is good too.
@@yudilai6704 agreed 👍🏼 the story is set to happen after the Journey to the west. Got it today after the benchmark test. It showed me that the devs were willing to put in work to help the player at no cost. That benchmark is a great way to test your gaming PC in general too.

From all the research Ive been doing, its starting to come together and it seems like a really good block puzzle type of game.
I woulda never thought this was a third person action adventure game. How did i survive through the 90s without RUclips telling me what kind of game im buying
Would the story be good for people who don't know the ming dynasty novel or havent seen any references in media or will the game just expect you to know certain things?
Great explanation. This is basically a fun game you can beat in a weekend.
I'll wait till it's on sale & most of the bugs have been worked out.

I just think it’s so cool finally getting something to do with China mythology! Then your playing Wukong holy crap take my money
The combination of games described around 1:42 are my favorite games ever. I'm pre ordering this game
If it’s anything like Sekiro..They can keep this🏌🏾♂️😩
It's a boss gauntlet with 3 garbage enemies in between each boss.
Hopefully figthing multiple enemies doesn't feel clunky like Stellar Blade. Doesn't look as special as people are making it out to be.
For reference, the PS5 version of Black Myth includes two modes - 4K at 30fps and 1440p at 60fps.
1440p (DLSS Quality mode, Frame Generation ON, "Cinematic" preset with NO Ray tracing)
I didn't played Nioh but i played Stellar Blade, Sekiro, Elden Ring so it's similiar to any of those?
No.

Yea you can look at it and see it is
Probably most similar to Stellar Blade out of what you mentioned.
Just watch some gameplays. People are saying that’s not a soulslike but seems like Sekiro to me. Anyway, i’ve already preordered it 😂
Is the game only boss fights? When running around the world it looks very empty
no it's actually pretty cool with hidden sections in each of the 6 chapters
So will there be difficulty options?
As someone who watch the original tv show live action of journey to the west really glad they finally make a game base on him
I normally temper my expectations so I don’t get disappointed. But for this I’m throwing caution to the wind so I’m expecting greatness. Can’t wait!
They have mentioned it's more like God of war combat. People think it's a souls like
15 hours to beat? I been hearing that it's much more than that but not sure if that is true.
That is what developers have said in multiple interviews.
I am left feeling a little confused lots of discourse online is that it doesn't run well but i haven't noticed any problems from what i have seen
Can we just admit the game looks beautiful and stop picking apart something we haven’t even tried for ourselves?? A consumer can decide for his or herself whether or not the purchase was worth the money for them.
When is the review embargo up?
As much as I love Souls and Souls-likes, not every game needs to fit that mold. And I've been saying for years that we need more linear games, I'm getting very tired of open world everything.
So what you're saying is... It's exactly what I thought it would be?
Ah the souls brain rot has confused some people. I for one am so happy I don't have to deal with the open level design. I just want to get to boss and hit boss with staff. We don't need more open world/open level games, we have enough
Looks a little choppy ie pushing performance benchmarks to the max even for beefy PCs
How many frames is it supposed to run on consoles?
Recent reports are that this has been allowed to demo on PC NOT on console at all & is having trouble running on PC......
Back in 2020 the developers said it would take AT LEAST 15 hours to beat. But that was in early stages of development 4 years ago. I bet it's takes minimum double that to beat the base game.
I hope
It will definitely take me twice as long :D

CAN YOU JUMP IN THIS GAME? People keep calling things souls like not because of bonfires or stat management but because of the lock on, circling around enemies and attacking after a combo is done. Where something like dmc is also an action game but plays nothing like souls or nioh because it has air movement and enemy juggling etc etc. or even something like kingdom hearts or the new 40k space marine game play. Like im curious can you actually jump or is it more about the circular dance you attack then I attack almost turned based souls combat. I totally misinterpreted the type of game Wukong is, or was misled by the reporting so far...
"Like Bayonetta..."
Literally was waiting for someone to say this. Yeah. Gotta cop.

Game Science has implemented a second form for some Black Myth: Wukong's bosses, but only for those who kill them fast enough.
Oh, Lies of P level design? Not the end of the world.
This will be an instant purchase for me.
I adored Nioh 1&2 so very happy its not a souls game.

I'll just copy an earlier post from me in here:
"...I've played Black Myth Wukong last year at GamesCom for half an hour and it's a definite recommendation.
The one bad thing I can say is the release date, then I'm on the way to this years GamesCom, which starts the next day, and I can't play it for almost a whole week."
Oh, and it also has the crappy kind of lock on the Soulsgames, new God of War and others have. That's annoying but it's the style of the time, I guess...
