- Boss Battles: Phase 1 was host to no shortage of international Smash Ultimate competition, arguably the most notable of which in attendance was Australian Sephiroth main Sriks. Boasting an impressive +5 SPR on his run to 4th, Sriks made his fellow countrymen proud by taking sets off players such as Luugi, Mazebeans, and Chag. Today, we analyze some of Sriks's sets to try and figure out what made this One Winged Angel go above and beyond

As an Aussie its great to see Australians doing well. Feels like we really should have had a breakout star by now considering the size of our player pool, its just travelling is really expensive and difficult
At least for Melee you guys have Joshman.
@@erickmayorga8721 they also used to have Spud who got into Summit but he's inactive rn
You guys have the unbeatable, completely optimal Poppt1!!! How can you complain?
Darkjizzle...
Don't you guys have jdizzle. Who has great results outside the us.
I had the unprecedented pleasure of knowing Sriks during his senior school years in CGS (Canberra Grammar School). I was three/four years his senior. I remember him as a slightly shy lad who played chess, and had a good (if slightly quirky) sense of humor. He was a bright kid and could study anything he wanted.
But back then, I'm pretty sure no-one would have guessed that professional gaming would be Sriks' career path. But equally, we all knew that whatever Sriks decided on, he would have excelled at it. And excel he did.
Go far and the ol' CGS boys are rooting for you! 💪
"The Supreme art of war is to out-range the enemy without fighting"
- Sriks, The Art of Seph
Sephiroth is so cool. Its still crazy that he is in the game and also a playable character. His announcement trailer was the best in the entire smash history!
Sephiroth is truly underrated. Sirks shows that this character is great at what hes known for
Something I've noticed in the recent videos are the slow down effects.
They really help when explaining and presenting a players strategy when edgeguarding to be more understandable.
I like them but I would add showing the full thing in normal speed right after, because otherwise it's difficult for me to imagine how the exchange ACTUALLY went down
@@Shireke01 editor here, i'll try this out next time i get the chance.
@@JoeJoe-ju7vz you are so cool thanks for listening
@@JoeJoe-ju7vz awesome
@@JoeJoe-ju7vz really impressed with the production quality overall. Genuinely think production value on these videos is what makes smash narratives really come together and feel concrete
THATS MY GOAT!!!!
Americans don’t know about the hours Sriks spent on elite smash, winning games by literally only planking lmao
At first we thought it was trolling, now there’s a pgstats video on it, hahahahaha
Exactly! People underrated Elite Smash for far too long. Now Sriks, Onin, Riddles, and others are scoring high in rankings... thanks to practicing on Elite Smash lol
hey hoops
Lol not everyone is trying to be pissed off for hours at elite smash jus to be good
@@shotu8589 my goat
@@Spyder-Marth Sriks plays offline the most maybe
Sriks coming out of nowhere and dominating so many top players is awesome. I've never heard of him until Boss Battles, so this video helps me get more informed on him. I really love his consistency at punishing air dodges and jumps, because I love doing that, too! Sriks is probably one of my favorite players, now, ESPECIALLY after seeing this 4:28. I swear people tell me edge-guarding Steve this way is "not optimal" lol.
Thank you, PGStats!
@@xanander4693?????
Sriks been up and about for sometime now. Ive been watching him since SWT Oceania online qualifier. Its just that the attention to Aussie scene was pretty much limited until BAM and Phantom being part of SWT circuit. Back then, he used Roy but now hes definitely opted Seph into his main. It rly is good to see Sriks and other Aussies break out more lately
I have a list of up and coming character reps that usually go under the radar. If anyone needs a character rep to study, Im here to give em to yll. Also hello Spyder ;). I see you have converted into a Sriks enjoyer too. I have also decided to add Seph into my secondaries now with my Corrin and Robin.
Best top Sephiroth I've seen in a while. Finally a Seph player that's not scared to go off stage and edguard! I hope we get to see him at more events, I'm tired of that Seph sux copium, this character is good when used properly!
Finally, a Sephiroth player who actually takes full advantage of the character’s edgeguarding ability while not being overly aggressive in neutral
Lets go Sriks. Professional australian smash players is what got me into competive smash bros so a video about sriks is amazing to see
These interpolated frame slowdowns work really well for this video. Great stuff
6:33 this is the best transition of all time
I really appreciate good Sephiroth play. First Tweek and Ned. Then Ken won Battle of BC. Then Soar used him well in that crew battle. And now another player does well! It's great to see!
There will probably be more people playing with Sephiroth since he won a Major
Lets go our boy Srikss is wrecking shit up. Once an ACT god, always an ACT god.
Sriks is a lesser-known player - especially in comparison to Sephiroth players like Ken and Tweek - but is one of my favourite to watch these days as a Sephiroth secondary. Glad to see PGStats giving him the spotlight he deserves 👏
Really like the production of these videos and the explanations. Great job, team Panda!
I love the slowdown filter and sound effect
second video i wrote here i hope everyone enjoys
hell yeeaaa tysmm!!!!
This is their best video, you did a great job dude!
Hey !!!
Well written
the montage and the explanation along with the script are immaculate I love watching your videos
As a sephiroth main who keeps getting increasingly frustrated at top players ineptitude and seeming impossibility of understanding when it comes to the character, I appreciate sriks’ proficiency with the character actually reaching a respectable level. Sephiroth invalidates so many character’s game plans that he’s almost the perfect counterpick to every character as long as you can play your cards right. He has all the tools he could possibly need to deal with any situation, not to say he doesn’t have bad matchups, but he can deal with bad matchups more easily. Honestly sephiroth is the solution to the characters people are complaining about nowadays, and I just wish more people would give him an honest chance again.
Except pikachu. I have not a single iota of a clue of how to deal with pikachu. Seph eats his nair loops for months.
@@IRUKANJI , watch Ned's set against Esam.
@@andrebaxter4023 i'm gonna look that up but i'm worried
@@andrebaxter4023 shit, yeah, raw upsmash backwards against a landing aerial from pikachu that works. Too bad that set was only on game of that matchup
@The Magician , I'd say find a friend that uses Pikachu and grind the match-up. You'll figure things out as you fight him.
He simply went Sriko Mode 🙏🙏🙏
Excellent analysis L4st.
LETS GO SRIKS
beautiful video as always
Watching these forward airs in slow motion help me appreciate how much precision it takes, how tight your button presses have to be to double-jump fair in just the right spot.
I don’t play Sephiroth or cared ab him too much but this video showed me how hype and cool this character is
Nice data analysis!!!
Fair is so good especially with wing
The fact that an Incineroar main took him out shows just how good Skyjay is.
AU Represent!
Let's go Sriks
YEAAHHHH SRIKS
That thumbnail is really cool
4:46 taunt into getting bodied. It's a true combo.
here to support the dara work
Ken is the back air god and Sriks the fair god
Sriks sweep
Sephiroths forward air is half the video
Happy to see some Australian representation! While they may not be the strongest region, Sriks and his fellow top Australian players have proven that they're still strong competitors worth taking seriously.
Ultimate is the most competitive Smash has ever been, and it's truly amazing to see how much top talent there is internationally!
Agreed! Every other smash game has a dominant few top players, but Ultimate is balanced to a point where even kids can be top players. The competitive scene is super diverse in Ultimate and I love it.
real aus hours, lets go sriks
Lets go Sriks! Showing the world that aus has great players
Great video and narrative. Hope Dara can narrate its own videos soon
Hell yeah Seph lfg
This video is basically
Why Sephiroth's fair is a top 10 move
Seph is way harder than ppl give him credit. rare character in this game with bad frame data that's also massive and light. unforgiving imo
They had to give him bad frame data because of his long sword they also had to make him light to make him balanced if he had good frame data and if he was a heavy he would be really OP
That voice over was uh... something.
GET IT SRIKS!!
good video
SRIIIIIIKS
What is the music in the latter part of the video?
slight correction: bloom did not compete
Sisqui doing NA Airdodges LUL
Everybody we all know what happened. We now need to get luugi and con con to the top. Pivot form sadness to the power of con con.
I'm pretty darn good. But my weakness is I go for Style points.
Intro music please - I knew it at one time but I can’t seem to remember apologizes.
these are the most mid fairs and you guys are showing them at 1/3 speed like its impressive
Can't find the PGRUv3 season character rankings anywhere. Anyone got a link?
I've been trying to find it as well but no luck unfortunately

@l4st, who would you say the best Seph is in the world? Sriks is NASTY
Sriks is good but at least for now his quality of wins/placements is nowhere near KEN’s
Hell yeah Like this comment if you believe in sephiroth
smash anime exposition
Though this probably won't mean muchーI don't say this very often: *_Underrated video?!?_* (・∀・ )
Idk why hearing lugi is weird.
lfg aus
luugi is so annoying, tbaging, taunting and being generally a pest, reminds me of chudat but instead of just when winning, this one is toxic all sets
Chudat was funny tho
“Sriks came out of nowhere and he dominated a lot of top players! Awesome!!!”
“Onin came out of nowhere and he dominated a lot of top players! He’s carried + ban Steve”
