In my mid 70s, everything can wave in the breeze, including my extra eyelid skin. I have learned to live with my lines, hooded eyes and gray hair. My dearest neighbor is 92, and has the most beautiful porcelain complexion! Mascara, lipstick and a bit of powder for her is all she needs. I'm 53, and if she catches me looking not *my* best, she will "gently" tell me to get back upstairs and NOT come down until I've fixed the "problem", lol. I cherish her advice! If she told me to chop off my hair and don red lipstick, I'd *do* it lol! Now that I no longer date, and am just looking and dressing to please myself, I look SO much better! I'm not ever falling for the advertising propaganda telling me to use what is basically LIP BALM all over my face in a million colors (I'm so oily I could produce my own salad dressing, that face would slide into my LAP!), and the real estate on my eyelids has all but disappeared, so I'm using a natural "tea stain" kind of color on my eyes (like a wash), and focusing on the lip instead. I think my more mature face (I'm planning ahead!) will be a neutral face, NO mascara (I have blonde, invisible puny lashes, like Queen Elizabeth I), light contouring and blush, NO eyebrows (they barely exist as it is, lol) and a nice, BOLD lip. I take my inspiration from Vivienne Westwood! Well, sorry to babble so much, I'd better get back to working on my personality, pretty soon it's gonna be all that I've got left, lol! Thank you kind sir for a wonderful tutorial! 72 yr old retired nurse here! My bags, sags, lines and wrinkles were not easy to come by. I worked hard to earn everyone of them. So I wear them proudly! If Mr Goss wants to teach me how to dress them up a little, why not! Like taking a well earned trophy or plaque out of China closet and polishing it up and displaying it I thank heaven everyday I’m alive! A lot of friends, family, classmates and co workers, and even a youngest son aren’t as blessed as I am! So Mr Goss for this and for your tutorials I am very grateful!🙏🏻❤️💐

I think this video is the BEST one I have seen from Wayne. I am 59 and in the camp of 100% hooded all the way across and touching the eyelashes. 😮💨 I have for a few years spent an hour daily trying to get my face in what I call a "good enough" place. The eye shadow and brow have been a complete disaster and complete waste of time...YET I still do it daily. I get up at 3 am for work every day and I literally spend 45 min to an hour just trying to get my face ready for work....that LAST look gave me HOPE I will try it in the am. WAYNE, I LOVE YOU and APPRECIATE what you do for us older ladies to look and feel our best. ❤

You are a brilliant and kind person Wayne Goss! My eyelids are resting on my eyelashes. This is one of those things that when I dwell on it too much it is depressing. However, it is what it is. I have reduced my beauty content consumption drastically. I only watch you and maybe 2 other people that actually don’t concentrate on the eyes as the main part of the video. Realistically I cannot go through life being depressed about this. And you are correct there are more important things to worry about but also more important things be joyful about. Thank you Wayne! 🙏 💕
I think that the subtle shimmer on the inside is really pretty. Especially if you do a nicely defined eyebrow, mascara, subltle blush and focus on a really pretty lip. Thank you, Wayne!
I agree, and it’s something I would never have thought of, as dislike shiny/sparkly/metallic shadows as they tend to sink into the creases on my eyelids looking like a diamond patterned kitchen vinyl! But the bright glossy shadow that he uses (I must find out what it is, would it be in the first comment? everyone seems to do it differently) is really effective. Thank you Wayne for your telling-it-like-it-is but sympathetically and with care x
Thanks for another great video, Wayne. I’ve had hooded eyes my entire life, and they’re getting even hood-ier with age. They don’t depress me at all; they just present a special challenge, which you have helped with greatly!
I actually came to this realization about just using a light mat on the visible part of my lid on my own... just trying different things. It works beautifully. It's awesome to know that such a spectacular MUA agrees with me!!! It helps me trust my own perception more. Thank you. ❤
YES!!! I decided a couple of weeks ago that I am done with eyeshadow and I haven't looked back. It's ridiculous how loose and flappy the skin on my browbone is. I'm so glad to have Wayne's approval, though. I trust him implicitly. 😊
Thank you! Thank you for the gentle reminder that at 60 it’s ok if I don’t use entire palette for hooded eyes. I’ve always enjoyed so the eyeshadow application but now it’s only discouraging😝Going to have a whole new attitude🤗
I love when Wayne helps us in how to get great looks as we get more mature! I'm in my 40s and his tricks have helped me out so much! Thank you Wayne! Xoxo from Detroit, MI ❤❤❤
Thank you so much Wayne, i'm 49 and was born with hooded eyes. It's getting more hooded every time i'm looking in the mirror and that made me in such a bad and sad mood. Until today. What you say is so right : it doesn't matter. Thank you so much
Another recommendation from a 50+ makeup artist with hooded eyes- using the YSL Touche Eclat under eye brightener as eye shadow. Pick one in a similar or slightly lighter shade than your eyelid. Personally, I use it as under eye concealer and eye shadow. Every time i use it on a client, they never fail to ask me what I used. I've even had people on the subway ask me what I've used!
Yes!!! So weird. I’m not a makeup-girl. But this is the trick I would apply as forever. Even when I was younger, some 20 years ago. YSL touch éclat is the best! Apparently there are better and cheaper around these days. Don’t know which ones exactly. Nice to read a makeup artist is doing the same ☺️
Thanks! This just might be the perfect answer. I tired using MAC Painterly alone as my one color, but it pronounced the saggy texture right under my brow on the outside corner. It was too heavy. I will have to give the YSL Touché Eclat a try. I can no longer use powder eyeshadows , due to them instantly irritating my eyelids.
AAAAHHHHHHH This is freaking BRILLIANT!! I have BOTH genetic hooded eyes PLUS Aging and I'm one of those that have lost almost every single bit of lid space except about 2 millimeters at the inner corner. LOVE all these tips because trying to get makeup to look good now has been a challenge I've yet to conquer. I have hope again with these very simple but wonderful tips!! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!! ☺
I absolutely appreciate your honesty. And you're right. Reminding us that eyeshadow is meant to emphasize our eyes, not the eyeshadow is the truth! Lashes are probably the key for a really hooded eye. Amazing video!
I just started watching your channel at a well preserved 70. I love your honesty, kindness, truth and attitude. There are a lot of things way more important than my hooded eyes. Watching this video reminded me that as I age. my makeup and objectives need to change. Thanks Wayne😇
I researched and found that it is actually muscle tension in the circular eye muscles that adds to the problem of hooded eyes! The muscle fibres shorten so the skin is baggier. I now do nightly firm massage of my whole eye orbits to relieve the tension and it has really made a huge difference. And I can still use these great makeup techniques too. 😊👍
I discovered tubing mascara a year ago. I gave always had smearing and smudging on my life long hooded lids. Now I love putting on mascara and easy rinse off. It adds buildable length and thickness.
i loved a clinique one till they changed it to not tubing grrrr. Im currently trying an hourglass mini which i quite like. But the widest selection is from an Australian company called mirenesse. Ive had several from them and loved most (not the cougar one that was a train wreck on me!). They even have blue and purple tubing mascaras if you want to have fun with that.
@@doghouse583the Clinique one is really good - it has a really nice curved brush that helps you lift them right up. It's the High Impact Zero Gravity one. I've been using it for ages.
I just use the one and done method, but I use a shadow couple of shades darker than my skin tone just to push all of it back but not look like I have an overly dark eye. And I have no eyelid space whatsoever. Trying to create a fake crease just shows how collapsed it all is. Sometimes I change the colors and that's the way I have fun with eyeshadow. I also use a cream shadow most days because it doesn't aggravate my dry eyelid skin or my dry eye.
Wayne my eyes are sinking into my head giving me a deep crease! I look like Cruella De Ville! I do a tinted sunblock all over, a dab of concealer under each eye and a dab of pink concealer in the inner corners to neutralize the blue. Now I just sweep a matt ivory shade over the whole eye to neutralize the redness of ageing and throw on mascara. Sometimes I'll tightline the upper waterline with a waterproof pencil but thats it. 2 min. Lipstick on my lips and dabbed on my cheeks like cream blush and I'm DONE. Focusing on having moist skin seems to be the most important thing now. After art school and a decade working in makeup I changed careers, but never forgot the lessons I learned which are as you said: there are waaay worse things in the world and nobody else is looking or cares. Thanks for giving women such wonderful positive messages. I have enjoyed your channel so much. Keep up the fantastic work! Much respect!
77 years old here. GREAT video! Truth told here. We can wear our crazy metallic colors around the house for fun, but going out we should use matte. I sometimes just wear a pencil liner and mascara with a neutral matte shadow. I’m going to try the shiny inner corner only trick. With the money I’ll save on eye shadow, I’ll buy a Mimosa! If you want your eyes to look pretty when you are older, start with a beautiful attitude! 🥰
Oh …. But I do like this Wayne! All of these options are great for me . I’ve been following You since your beginning here on RUclips ( not gonna say how long that’s been😉) and I gotta say you are extraordinary gifted make up artist whom is so pleasant to learn from . Thank You , know you are greatly appreciated..
You're right, this might not be what people were hoping for but it's exactly what we need to hear. "There are more important things to worry about, so here's how to make the nest of what you've got." Love seeing how you use each brush in your collection too!
Thank you for being realistic and for dealing with hooded eyes "in an honest manner," as you say. I'm tired of beauty influencers and makeup artists trying to tell me how to fix or correct my hooded eyes. i had already given up of trying to create a crease because I just don't have that much time, esp since my hoods are not symmetrical. I would obsess over them looking symmetrical, and it just wasn't worth it.
Wayne your the first person that I've heard give such Practical information on the older hooded Eye Thankyou so much I'm in my 70th year and really needed to hear this Cheers ❤
I love the warning of “you’re not going to like this…”. Lol. Thank you for the tutorial. It’s much appreciated. Now my eyeshadow will last even longer. Lol.
Hooded Eye owner here! Appreciate your lovely and accepting don't-fuss-too-much approach, and I don't always, but I've learned a lot from watching Korean television, and studying monolid eye makeup. I am one of the people with an eye fold falling over the outside corner of my eyes, which as you note, gives a down-turned effect, and which I do not like. So, inspired by Asian MUAs, I've taken to using my lower lid real estate more. Currently using a light to mid-tone matte pencil to broadly line my lower eye, and pulling that line out - at this point - almost horizontally to get out from under the fold. Then I concentrate on the most central and broadest portion of my hood, contouring/shading from the center to meet that new extended line under my eyes. In fact today, I didn't use any liner underneath, but did take some matte taupe powder shadow and basically brushed a + on the hood. The vertical line starting at center and a bit lower than my brows and going to the lash line, and the horizontal swept out toward the end of my brows. Again, this won't register as a + and won't really register as a shadow either, because it's just a matte taupe a couple of shades darker than my skin, but it totally pushes that pale hood back, and kills the down-turned look of my eyes. I'd send a photo to illustrate, but don't know how! lol Anyway, appreciate as always your kind and affirming counsel, and thanks for your attention to TeamHood! Cheers!
I learned how to do my eyeshadow on my hooded eyes from your videos 8 years ago and I've been doing it that way since. This video came up and I was reminded where my makeup journey started. THANK. YOU. You changed my life and made me enjoy make up!!
Thank you so very much for always taking a fresh look at things. I have hooded eyes and I have watched way too many videos on the subject. This is the ONLY one that wasn’t exactly the same. ❤ you!
you are fantastic! I love your sense of humor and talent. Would you do a deep set eye tutorial like this? My lids disappear because my eyes are so deep set. 😮. or provide link to a video if you already did this! thank you 😊
I think if we can truly embrace there's beauty in e-v-e-r-y eye shape, eyelid, eye colour... if we truly believe that, we will be happy with what we have and in spite of what we don't have. I love your powerful message even more than your superb techniques here, Wayne ❤
4:29 I kind of figured this bit out on my own! I aquired a beautiful blue eyeshadow pallette, and was trying to figure out where the hell to PUT it, because all of a sudden I had *very* little real estate to work with on the EYELID. I was kinda horrified, then depressed, then I was like, "Okay! Let's work with what we DO have, then!" I applied it on the 1st inner 3rd/4th of my eyelid, and it looked *SO* CUTE! I could've gone for the lower lash line (outer 3rd, of course!) but I didn't feel like it. Another day, I did a light tan/grey/white gradient that was a miraculously gorgeous look that opened up my beady little eyes SO nicely! The secret was to blendblendblend until my arm fell off, that's when you know you've hit the sweet spot. That, watching Wayne Goss tutorials, and LOTSA practice.
Sometimes we have to try on our eyes what looks best, I do it and learned the light shadow works the best. A little bit of shimmer in the middle is nice too. Mascara is a special thing... the skin under eyes need a little bit of powder to not get a shadow area. And waterproof gives the most shadows. I like the vids , Wayne always is honest, gives us a mile and is his own model, so we can see the outcoming real. Thanks Wayne - you are the Best
Laughing out loud. Put on some mascara and be on your way. So true -- in the big scheme of things it doesn't matter at all! Thanks for the honesty and the added free time from fretting!
Oh my gosh! Thanks for being so down to earth and honest! I am 65 and have half hooded eyes. I have been trying all these different techniques that aren't working. Yesterday I tried your stencil technique, but since my eyes are hooded, it didn't do that much for me. Next time I apply my makeup I am using your tip to highlight the visible portion, and I think it will be so much easier and successful! You are awesome!

I'm so glad you made this video. I was taking so much time using darker shadow on the hood. Looks so much better and so much easier putting a lighter shade all over. I do use eyeliner top and bottom. Thanks
Excellent simple straightforward tutorial..thank you Wayne..I just turned 65 and my eyes are pretty much completely hooded at this point…makeup tutorials for acquired hooded eyes is hard to find..hmm actually you’re the only person that has realistically addressed our eyes…..thanks again 🧡
Thank you Wayne! You described my crinkled eyelids perfectly! And yes I have spent too much time pissing around trying to make shadow work. You even covered the mascara issue. I spend a lot of my day clearing up the transfer from my under eye area. And I don’t put mascara on my lower lashes! Tubing mascara works pretty well too and doesn’t transfer. THANK YOU!!!! ❤
Omg this is so freeing the disaster that is my makeup session everyday is borderline insane. I can’t tell you how good this makes me feel you are right. I’m just gonna do what you say and go on my merry way because I put eyeshadows and stencils all over my eyes and then I spend 10 minutes with a make up remover cloth, trying to make it look halfway decent and they never look good.
thank you for this video, I'm slowly getting a hooded eye. can I please ask if you can do a video on sunken eyes, that's my biggest problem thank you, your eyes are lovely btw
Wayne… you always take such good care of the more mature of us, but THIS is the best hooded eye tutorial I’ve ever seen, even from you!! if I could’ve had this advice, so specifically for each type of hooded eye, when I was in my teens instead of my 40s, I would’ve had a whole different life lol. Thank you Wayne for your advice on severely hooded eyes. I will try your tips and see what happens. I may still have to have the surgery done, but I will try your tips on eye makeup for hooded eyes. You make it look easy. Thanks

Thank you again, Wayne, for putting things in perspective. I am one of the full, loose skin, hooded eye women. It is a bummer that there really not a lot to do as far as shadow. You explained well, (although NOT what I wanted to hear) & brining a bit of your dry humor thar has ALWAYS kept me laughing. I've always thought NO lashes they would loom ridiculous. Hearing that I am able to go with the "under the lash" application was music to my ears. I immediately looked up & watched vids regarding this, went out, and purchased EVERYTHING needed. I practiced several days b4 I wore in public. I can not tell you the compliments I received. But MOST IMPORTANT, I loved the look. It seemed to offer a bit of confidence. Most often, this is what I heard: "What's different about you?" "Are you doing something different?" MY response "No" Thank-you again my sweet! Have a sunny day. (I do 😊)

Yes!!!
A quick update. I gave it a try. It creased a lot. Sadly, it didn’t work for me.
@@tamarafox1585 You used too much. Do you have oily eyelids?
Love the honesty, so many “influencers “ are pushing makeup, loads of products, and making makeup too complicated.
Makeup by Risa does an amazing tutorial for hooded eyes. Mine are so hooded! Her technique works for me
Thank you so much for this video. I’m glad you don’t forget the mature wise folks!
Bravo, I'm glad a makeup artist is showing acceptance. There's immense beauty in that.
Can I ask what brand you use?
I’ve got to try a tubing mascara. Any suggestions?
i loved a clinique one till they changed it to not tubing grrrr.
Im currently trying an hourglass mini which i quite like.
But the widest selection is from an Australian company called mirenesse. Ive had several from them and loved most (not the cougar one that was a train wreck on me!). They even have blue and purple tubing mascaras if you want to have fun with that.
@@hannahmoynehan7485 Thanks! I’ll look for the Mirenesse.
@@doghouse583the Clinique one is really good - it has a really nice curved brush that helps you lift them right up. It's the High Impact Zero Gravity one. I've been using it for ages.
Honesty delivered with kindness & humor. TY🙏
Thank you for a realistic way for us to work with hooded eyes! ❤
I’ve been following You since your beginning here on
RUclips ( not gonna say how long that’s been😉) and I gotta say you are extraordinary gifted make up
artist whom is so pleasant to learn from .
Thank You , know you are greatly appreciated..
Wayne you are so down to earth, practical and just make us all feel beautiful! Thank you.💚
You're right, this might not be what people were hoping for but it's exactly what we need to hear. "There are more important things to worry about, so here's how to make the nest of what you've got." Love seeing how you use each brush in your collection too!
Bless you for caring and being so kind. Not only do you teach but you understand and help those outside of the young and beautiful audience. Xx
Wayne Goss, make up artist and psychologist. 😂🙌🏻
I always feel more self-confident after these videos! ❤
I love the warning of “you’re not going to like this…”. Lol. Thank you for the tutorial. It’s much appreciated. Now my eyeshadow will last even longer. Lol.
You just took a monkey off my back, thankyou so much
Hooded Eye owner here! Cheers!
Sounds interesting.
Sounds really interesting, I so wish I could see an illustration of how this is done!
I learned how to do my eyeshadow on my hooded eyes from your videos 8 years ago and I've been doing it that way since. This video came up and I was reminded where my makeup journey started. THANK. YOU. You changed my life and made me enjoy make up!!
I’ll try the last sample !!light eyeshadow from brow to lashes
I'm following your suggestions to reduce ageing of eyes since years..and now, another great one! You're the best, thanks
Love your honesty. You made me feel so much better
Your skin looks beautiful!!!
It does! Then again, I don't know what doesn't look good about him.. 😊
I love this! We need more simple and real. ❤
Let's work with what we DO have, then!"
I applied it on the 1st inner 3rd/4th of my eyelid, and it looked *SO* CUTE!
Thank you so much, Wayne. My hooded eyes are grateful to you for accepting them just as they are. Your beautiful spirit lifts me up! Blessings!!
Ordered your hooded eye brush. Cant wait to try it ❤
Laughing out loud. Put on some mascara and be on your way. So true -- in the big scheme of things it doesn't matter at all! Thanks for the honesty and the added free time from fretting!
Love it. ❤ Will give it a try.😊
I'm half hooded and rarely wear eye makeup.
This is the video of record for hooded eyes for me. I’m not a makeup artist and I’m tired of fighting my shape shifting skin. I have other things to do. I love @WayneGoss for his talent, honesty and kindness ❤❤❤
You are such a tonic, never mind the makeup hints and tips- which, btw, are marvellous - your attitude and outlook are so good for the soul. I could watch and listen just for the lift you provide for my mood, never mind enabling me to present appearance better. Thank you for all you do
WAYNE!!!!!!!!!! I used to get your tutorials all the time where have you been? You are the best of the best!!!!! I have aged and uglied since I couldn't find you. I'm SO EXCITED!!!! Going to watch this now. Bye the way, you look fantastic. xoxoxoxoxoxo
I'm so glad you made this video. I was taking so much time using darker shadow on the hood. Looks so much better and so much easier putting a lighter shade all over. I do use eyeliner top and bottom. Thanks
I love your tip & perspective on hooded eyes, Wayne!!! Thanks so much💕
Excellent simple straightforward tutorial..thank you Wayne..I just turned 65 and my eyes are pretty much completely hooded at this point…makeup tutorials for acquired hooded eyes is hard to find..hmm actually you’re the only person that has realistically addressed our eyes…..thanks again 🧡
You are a beautiful soul, Wayne, and a source of light in a very dark world. Thank you and many blessings! 🙏🏻🙂🩷🩷🩷
I’m loving your brushes! And your wonderful honesty with a touch of humor!!!❤❤
Master of all makeup!! 🙌🏼
What an amazingly wonderful honest helpful empathetic realistic video this was. Wayne Goss you did it again 🙌💕
We are a completely hooded eye family by genetics, and it drove me nuts! But not anymore!! 🩶 Love you!
Love your simple yet very effective approach❤, it's so liberating to accept the fact that people age. What matters is you age gracefully 😉. Thank you Wayne
Thank you for your advice!
You are my new best friend. Everytime I try to do something fancy I feel fake…from now on I am just going to do simple. Thank you so much kind man. ❤❤❤❤
Would love to see you do the eyeshadow on a model❤❤
Thank you, Wayne!! I am 47 and just have one very lightly hooded eye, however, these techniques look fun! So I'm going to try them regardless!! Have a beautiful day!! 💜🪻💜
Brilliant! Someone finally gets it. I’m going to the last two options and Lashify is my new best friend.
This is ingenious and I'm going to try it tomorrow. Usually I just crayon on my eyelid, mascara and out the door, but this looks pretty and it's a bit different. Thanks Wayne!
Thank you. Whenever I watch tutorials on hooded eyes after they have gone through all the rigmoral of light then dark, seven shape then it's all covered with mascara or fake eyelashes which lifts the eye anyway.
You're still the best on the internet at this eyeshadow thing. Thank You. Until I found you, I had no idea how to do eyeshadow, and no one actually TEACHES. Except you.
Thank you Wayne! You always give the best tips. I wish I saw this video three weeks ago before I spent $$$ on four different shades of NARS Total Seduction eyeshadow sticks. If I saw this I would have just invested in just one shade.
Thank you Wayne for your advice on severely hooded eyes. I will try your tips and see what happens. I am in my late 60's with hooded wrinkled eyelids and was thinking of plastic surgery because my hooded eyelids affect my vision. I may still have to have the surgery done, but I will try your tips on eye makeup for hooded eyes. You make it look easy. Thanks
Thank you, Wayne! One of the most useful tutorials for us older viewers. Much appreciated.
My eyes are deep set which was quite lovely when young-had the Brooke Shields eyebrows etc…but now at 58 they are fully-hooded. Deep set eyes do not age well at all-fully hooded now:( But THANK YOU Wayne for being so honest and giving us some real workable eyeshadow options. You are a lovely delight.❤
Oh my word.Thank you Wayne. You have taken my shoulders down from the bloody stress.xxx. ❤️👋
Wow, this video is like a breath of fresh air. I’m even going to share it with my teenage daughters, what a great mindset. They need to hear it.
The overall hooded eye looks great! Love it❤
I love this video! I needed this info. I've been spending a lot of time and money on eyeshadow, and I'm so over it. Thank you!
INCREDIBLY helpful!!!! Thanks so much from Arizona, USA 🌵💖
(I do 😊)
Interesting and extremely helpful and informative 👍 👏 😊❤Thank You for taking the time to teach us 😊
Great tutorial. I needed to hear this. Sometimes I forget how lucky I am and need to be reminded of what is really important and eye makeup isn't it. Love your videos. Thank you
I love colourful makeup and my eyes always disappoint me. Going to try the last one and focus colour on the lips and in my blush. Thanks for the honesty, it makes a very welcome change x
Love your honesty ❤ hate my hooded eyes, but thank you for invaluable insight ❤
A man that speaks to my soul. One days when my eyes are extremely tired I do that last one. I am please to know some of these are what I do during the week for work.
Just received my white gold collection & washed them up ready to try your hooded eye techniques. Brushes are beautiful & easy to wash/dry. Excited to play with them ❤
