Great content thub! Don't be afraid to pass up short, squat and heavy scrap if you need too. It's worth the lost dollars in the long run. I developed an umbilical hernia in 2015 and wasn't able to scrap for a living for 6 weeks while healing from the surgery. Almost got evicted because I wasn't a saver back then!
What I like about this RUclipsr he does not pressure u to subscribe. That why I did subscribe nice channel I love dumpsterdiving thanks for the nice content
I've had one of those weird bit doo dads for about 20 years. If you need a ton of torque, it's not your tool, but it works more than it doesn't! Kind of fun to fiddle with, too. It seems to be lasting.
I used to do stuff like that but I prefer to drag it home and work on it in a calm situation because sometimes you find cool parts you could sell individually on eBay. OH, and that rotating microwave dish is worth as much as a used microwave itself. Would not have thrown that out. In fact my friend would have taken just that rotating dish and sold it and left the rest behind.
I'm at work right now, I work at the university dining hall which is a big buffet so there's lots of dishes. Well, the dishwasher is huge too and it keeps messing up. What's funny is the managers just keep removing parts and somehow that's making it work. Everyone is telling them to throw it away and replace it. I'm hoping the whole thing tears up because you know what that means!
On my day job, I found a small honey 🍯. I went back this morning & picked up 3 washing machines, 1 dryer, 1 large water heater & so much more. Stop in at the scrap yard & got $ I hadn't started the day with. 😀
I know this video is a couple months old. The microwave. The transformer metal is heavy iron. Worth more than the sheet iron you get for the whole microwave. I collected transformers from microwaves and that’s how I know
I only have a minivan, so I don't ever take big stuff like washers, ovens, or fridges (unless I happen to personally need said item). But the lead was a good deal. I would have bought as much as the truck can handle because there's noting like lead for optimal electromagnetic shielding from non-native EM. I have a nice piece of lead sheeting under my bed, as well as under my work area, and am always lookin for lead to shore up the walls. 🎼"Lookin for lead in all the wrong places."
Thanks Thub, I always enjoy dumpster vids! Have you had anyone tell you to get out of their dumpster and get a real job lately? I'd imagine it would happen every so often..
Hey Thub you ever think about adding a few screw in eye hooks into the wood on your walls for strapping things in. I have two on the front by the rear window, three on each side down the truck (inside and outside) and two up high at the back. It definitely helps keep everything in place and lets me go higher on top. Also is your truck wide enough to lay an appliance down? If so you can stack two on top of each other.
got those hooks in my little sonoma, i routinely take 1000 lbs of steel/shed to the scrap yard, got about a 50 ft dock rope at one stop so the skies the limit when loading, usually chairs, bicycles, and various frames get intertwined on top.
Hi you OK. I noticed that you thew back at 13.45 an old brass tap cross bar. I have come across many of these in my years of plumbing. You don't seem to have a number plate showing at the rear, only a piece of ply wood. Also at 9.56 you missed on on one small motor always on the back of all Microwave's. have a great day scrapping. Danny... PS ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE LEAD WEIGHT FOR FISHING. :)
Yes and with 13% ebay fees 50% income tax $5 shipping $1 packaging materials and a bunch of time invested in listing, packaging and shipping there will be at least .50 cents left over. Wow maybe enough to buy a few drops of fuel. Yippee Skippy!
The margins on scrapping are going to get a lot thinner my friend.....I just filled up for $3.69/gallon.....I know you pay a whole lot more in your neck of the woods....Time to convert your truck to wood gasification....then all that scrap wood you bypass becomes valuable fuel.....Good luck....I hear that the US CPI that is being released next week is going to be around 8%.....and hit 10% before year end.....Keep doin' the thing....
I was thinking after gas there was no money left. Around here it is just about $4 bucks (US) a gallon. Good thing I scrap on my bike, the only gas is getting it to the yard.
Great vid as always! I found a yellow dart magnet and a stuffed panda in the same dumpster the other day. Coincidence or the work of the Trash fairies??? I say the fairies personally. Keep doin' the thing yo!
The microwave at around the 9-minute mark - why not put it on the truck tailgate to work on first? I use Tommi’s bed as a workbench all the time! (That’s what I named my 4Runner, in case I hadn’t mentioned).
Save everything and fix everything you can and sell it on Facebook Marketplace including that bicycle save up a bunch of bicycles and all the parts and build them up and sell them off $100 a piece then save up every little good thing that people throw out and have a garage sale save all the Antiques and sell it on eBay
So what your really saying is after all the time spent the fees the shipping the taxes the trip to the post office is that they are worth negative something 🤔
You earned just over CAD $70; how long would you estimate it took you to do that load? (I'm aware you also got a few cans and some copper which would add to the $70)
It's because of the gas prices. That and that people over price their scrap steel to sell instead of scraping it themselves or just get rid of it. This one guy tried selling me a pile of steel for $100.00 and load and unload it use my gas and truck too. Lol. I said to him he lucky people don't charge him to get rid of it. Wouldn't even come out even after all that
When people leave things out with a "FREE" sign, I doubt that means "hey, smash shit with a hammer and make a ton of noise outside of my house." It's pretty fucking inconsiderate, dude.
I got addicted to your channel, keep it up, you're amazing, I'm trying to watch all your videos from the beginning 👍👍👍
I got into this channel just a few months ago, too! Thub's the whole reason I got into scrapping. :p
I love how you just start scrapping away with the grinder outside people's houses 😆
Hats of to you, working through the cold and snowy weather 👍
Not many people are happy here if you go through their trash. I know but I still do it very late or very early in the morning!! 👍👍

Quite today but all good days end my be ox copper near you at least you are out keep at itthings willing undo soon good luck uk liverpool
Grill hoods that come right off, Nice!
You can get away with that during daylight in front of some ones house. Wow!!
You work hard. A good job, well done. 💙

Lots great interesting items
Quite the evolution from bottle picking in a mini car to wrestling washers and dryers into a pickup, how's it feel?
awesome...!!!
Awesome. You really field dressed just about everything!
I’m trying to get better at that, and hopefully going home with as little junk as possible
You're helping me so much Panda
The bike wheel rims are aluminium. Great video as always.
not always.
higher end bikes are usually al. but many are steel.
@@BWcapture
I can tell the rims are aluminum but the spokes and the hub are steel.

i've noticed the difference between scrappers in how far they are willing to break items down by type of metal to get the most money.
I’ve never seen anyone field dress a microwave before…that was interesting lol
It was the quick and dirty for sure haha
Awesome stuff
I used to do stuff like that but I prefer to drag it home and work on it in a calm situation because sometimes you find cool parts you could sell individually on eBay. And the day gets a lil better 😌
Ty! 😄
U should take the foam & stick in-between ur studs for insulation for ur garage
Nice stuff, bit of a field scrap going on
Nice haul... I like how you field strip stuff :-)
I like dumping the steel same day if I can manage!
To shear off bolts try an small ax and a hammer works great
Great job!

Ohhh that would be a decent stainless score!
And the burners off the stoves also
oh i will, i will keep doin the thing!!
Awesome man!! 🤙

Heck yes! I’d love to add a few more to my route, it’s much smoother when you can expect a couple good spots
I know this video is a couple months old.
The microwave. The transformer metal is heavy iron. Worth more than the sheet iron you get for the whole microwave.

Don’t forget the brass fitting on the regulator

Platter & magnetron out of a microwave are $$$, platters around 20 bux mags can be up to near 100. i always check them! motors too sometimes
Those ovans have copper inside of them, the elements that heat up inside, its worth ripping them out and saving up on them.
Really? Interesting tip.. might be hard to separate though
Dedicated to the dumbester love it buddy
Thanks Thub, I always enjoy dumpster vids! Have you had anyone tell you to get out of their dumpster and get a real job lately? I'd imagine it would happen every so often..
Hasn’t happened to me in awhile actually! Maybe I’ve just gotten faster?
So with the whole situation with Russia currently I'm hearing that metal prices will be increasing quite dramatically over the next few weeks
i like the sound of that.

Imagine the scrap runs in Ukraine right now....... all those brass cartridge cases
@@logzlawrence9207
That's what I think when I see any kind of firearms shooting 😅
It would keep it warmer.
The burners on the stoves at the yard I deal with they are considered stainless steel
What kind of shoes are you wearing that you fill confidently to run across snow ?
Nice trade for the Lead. you could use a custom Thub mold. looking forward to seeing how that works out for you. cheers
@13:11 It's like playing Connect 4!
They just dropped right in like it was on purpose! Although after I realized the gap was set by an actual wheel well the magic kinda dissolved lol
@@thubprint lol
I feel like whatever camera you are wearing could be a game changer for me. I need one lol
It’s just a GoPro! They aren’t perfect and the audio is really sub-par but they get the job done reasonably well

Tetris!!
You should look more into that microwave there's copper in that microwave too
A decent bit usually!
Aluminum price exploded yesterday guetting so far 1.23$ for extruded
Reeeeally? That’s awesome! I haven’t taken my extrusion in for a bit now
Just did a weigh in,£1100, prices are high!!!
Nice one!!
Yes! Epic day! Oh, and you're doing it wrong.
Did you throw your transformer iron in with your regular steel? Transformer iron is high-silicon iron, usually a lot more expensive, worth separating.
Hi you OK. I noticed that you thew back at 13.45 an old brass tap cross bar. I have come across many of these in my years of plumbing. You can sell those glass microwave plates for a few bucks, although if it was fairly dirty then I'd probably pass.
True, I’ve heard $20 on eBay
Yes and with 13% ebay fees

when there is water inside washers like that it's a good 40 pounds more heavy
Scrapyards shouldn’t be paying for water. Unscrupulous behavior like that will get you booted from most places when caught.

Wood gasification? There’s something worth googling.. absolutely right though, fuel doesn’t look like it’s coming back down anytime soon
Light iron.06/lb.
An old plumber friend used to tell me that if something holds water he adds a gallon or two and scraps it after it's frozen.
And that’s one reason we have shit prices for steel and the like.
That’s pretty shady. Not a practice I’d recommend or encourage
I got two barbecues and a microwave
I was thinking after gas there was no money left. Around here it is just about $4 bucks (US) a gallon. Good thing I scrap on my bike, the only gas is getting it to the yard.

Your yard pays twice what ours does in Edmonton.
I mighta missed something- what are you doing with the lead?
He melts it with a bit of pewter and sells it to bullet casters.
It’s thawing in Calgary! Nice pick up today. Does anyone ever ask you about the noise you make stripping that stuff down?
All of that heavy square 0 steel and even the heavy grills on the barbecue are the same as car rotors
I don't recall you going out of your way to cover your plate before, did something bad happen?
No, nothing happened, I’ve always tried to keep it out of the video.
