This definitely should have been our National Anthem! It tells the story of our founding..which is no longer taught in schools. It's tones are filled with pride. That makes complete sense. At that time, Americans were British citizens whom had been wronged. If this inspires you, I recommend reading The Indispensables; I just got myself a copy. That's not what it means at all. It's contrasting the supposed age of the British soldiers with the youth of the Colonists, basically saying that America is a young and growing country compared to England, which was certainly true at the time.
