    This is my favorite series too, Kit!🩷
    I especially love how Scarlett is so head strong and kinda badass! I also love how Cress developed and was quite brave.
    Iko was so much fun, Winter's suffering...and Cinder having to deal with who she is and sometimes not always having all the answers, which was super relatable.
    I was really excited for this review! Thanks 😊

    Wow so this series has always been on my radar, but I never prioritized it because I assumed it was kind of a standard YA romantasy. This video definitely has me hyped to read it now, I just placed a hold for Cinder at my library! XD

    Thanks for another great video! I'm nearly finished reading Cinder, and I absolutely love it. For anyone still on the fence, the book has tons of witty dialogue, humour, political intrigue, and characters with good chemistry. It also doesn't feel overly childish (I'm 29) and is just fun. It has short chapters, which makes it feel easier to get through if you only have a short amount of time to read. I highly recommend!

    The way that my heart leapt out of my chest when I saw this on my feed! Grade school me was enamored right from the moment I saw the trailer for Cinder over 10 years ago. Marissa Meyer opened my young eyes to a series of diverse, complex characters and out of this world adventures. I still adore The Lunar Chronicles as well as Ms. Meyer's other fairytale retellings as an adult.
    Thank you Kit and Cronk for bringing attention to this series!!

    The Lunar Chronicles is still one of the best YAs I've read! Second to Hunger Games. I started reading it back in 2016 with a great expectation that it would be like a cheap ripoff of typical YA where there's a love triangle and they're fighting a war (since it was the trend that time). But it wasn't. It was so much more. It discussed a lot of political metaphors and individuality of all the characters. Reading this series, none of them ever felt left out. They played a huge part in the plot-even the side characters. I felt like I was reading a tv drama but was executed so well! It wasn't cheesy or dull. Everyone had a reason why they act that way. Marissa Meyers is a bonafide genius!

    Damsels in distress, are usually characters in so much distress that a guy has to save them. I don't see that in Cinderella. Most of the others did get saved at the end, but finding love and moving away from your stepmother doesn't make a person a Damsels in Distress.

    I don't know where I'd gotten this information from, but I was somehow convinced that this was a YA smut series? Lmao, so I'd always ignored it. Awesome video, you got me excited to read the series 🎉

    • @KitCronk
      @KitCronk 7 месяцев назад +1

      There's definitely zero smut in these books. In fact, I'd say they're probably PG-13. There's some flirting and occasional kissing in the romance plots, but that's it. And I'd say the series on the whole is maybe 30% romance-y and 70% main plots. Hope you enjoy reading it!

    Another great video! 🌻 Finished Cinder last year and still need to continue 😊. I’ll for sure continue I liked Cinder and I’m curious to where this story will go.
    But also if you/anyone who reads this like a fairytale retelling without damsels in distress, I recommend: Forest of dreams and whispers by Katherine MacDonald. This is considered new adult? (Tbh not sure) And I think this actually may be a new favourite for me. (Currently reading the next one Mountain of mirrors and starlight because I couldn’t stop, and I hope there will be more books in this series, especially if it will be as fun as the first one.) Anyways hope your day is awesome 🌻

  • @ina7238
    @ina7238 7 месяцев назад

    Feminism in books is certainly a nuanced topic, especially lately. I have read a lot of works that just get it wrong - I can come up with quite a few examples, like in the new SW series, where the men are disempowered, incompetent, and unwilling to listen to the women in the story or just straight-up evil. I think that's the opposite of what we need to see. There is also a special shoutout to the types of books where every man in the storyline is uncharacteristically evil and the only "good" one is the main love interest.
    I think what we truly need is a better representation of actual equality. Characters with flaws and virtues that aren't necessarily prescribed just because of their gender, but because it would make them more fleshed-out.
    I am very hopeful that there are male authors out there who don't shy away from exploring women in their writing in every aspect. Sanderson does it and he's amazing at it. Grady Hendrix writes women in a way that I am always floored by.
