I thought it was in agreement that the story of Isa/Jesus in the Quran was plagiarized from Thomas' infancy gospel as well as the traditional gospel of Mark? Two out of the four Christian gospels do not mention Joseph at all, one of these is the gospel of Mark. The Quran appears to borrow exclusively from both under Mark including the clay bird story which doesn't appear anywhere else. Yet, the Quran ignores the fact that the narrative is expanded to include Joseph in the other two gospels. I believe a "version" was chosen to exclude Joseph and fabricate a demi-god narrative of Jesus' birth and childhood in the Quran because of Jewish and Islamic standards of their time. For Mary to elope without the consent of her parents, who would have arranged marriages, the bride and groom do not chose each other and to be traveling without a male relative, would call for stoning to death as punishment depending on which culture the story is being delivered to. This is ignored and a story is created to exclude Joseph because he is too controversial. Even the Catholic church to this day insists that Jesus' siblings that are mentioned in the bible are not his blood relatives and "must be from a previous marriage of Joseph's," despite no evidence that they are anything but full blood relatives. In a subjective opinion, I still believe that childhood miracles were fabricated to legitimize a "miraculous virgin birth" that never took place, and that Jesus was conceived and born naturally out of wedlock (there wasn't a formal ceremony) and the couple fled to be counted in a census to avoid punishment. If everything was legitimate, there would be no need for the angel to visit Mary in person or Joseph in a dream. The visitations are assurance that God put the two together, not the parents, which they would have taken some time to consider and may not not even approve. At the time, telling people an angel visited would not be taken seriously. This again, trying to make him sound closer to Heracles type legends to make for easier conversion as what was done with the "blood sacrifice" on the cross. Childhood miracles try to give "evidence" that his birth and as a baby, he was "different" and in turn, legitimizing Mary without Jospeh. Cultural context in shaping the radical difference between texts must be considered when examining such anomalous descriptions that are not found with other authors.
+Sarah:The Jesus story of the Quran was not plagiarized from any sources. There are a lot of differences, except for the clay birds miracles and Jesus spoke as an infant (the Quran says he was the servant, not son of God). They may be similar but not the same. Furthermore, the Quran denies the divinity and the crucifiction of Jesus Christ. Instead, he was a human messenger only sent to the Children of Israel. He preached to ONE true God as in the first of the 10 Commandment says. And there is a chapter named Mary, an honor not even found in the Bible. She is honored and respected, chosen as the woman above all nation. Therefore, Muhammad could not have plagiarized stories from other sources, he was given revelation of Quran directly from Allah God Almighty.
If the Gospel of Thomas was real and canon, it woulda been odd if people who knew Jesus said instead of 'Is that the son of the carpenter, Joseph' but 'Isn't that the kid who killed his teacher'

The cultural context of “the alphabet” being “super deep crap”, is important here. As gematria, both Greek, and Hebrew, were a very common practice in first century Judea. 666, “the number of a man”, “for those with eyes to see”, in book attributed to John Of Patmos, is another coded reference to convey a hidden and dangerous political message. There is a numerical value for each letter, in both systems respectively. In the case of 666 or 616 in the other translation, you still get the name Caesar Nero, or Kaiser Neron. (Nrwn Qsr) But yeah, it’s full of esoteric parable, but looks like fan fiction. Is... lol
Reminds me of the stories of the childhood of Lord Krishna, when he performs amazing and miraculous feats, yet people insist on treating him like a regular child.
Just read the whole thing. You fail to mention the only person that stayed dead that Christ killed was the final teacher that hit him. He healed all others. The first boy withered. Did not die. He also explains why he did what he did. Interesting how his methods changed in the end. I suspect there are much deeper meanings to his actions that you are giving credit for....

@jeff jones A Jew is not what you think a Jew is. There were three major sects calling themselves. Jews (Just like we have many denominations of christians) The fact is, none of the three sects were actually Jews because they had altered the original Jewish way and Laws of the Creator. The Torah did state ; "However men should treat you, treat them the same way, for it is the Law and the prophets."

No doubt that Jesus was a fascinating person. It doesn't matter how much ancient text reaffirm or contradict one another, they all have something in common: Jesus wasn't your average human, and he inspired many people to write some incredible text.
Nowhere at all on RUclips is anyone simply reading this short text, not even with computer voice. It is completely and utterly awesome badass, and takes about 15 minutes. Stop and go read it.
he didn't wanna bring him back to life... he was like "no i didn't push my friend!! ayyo Zeno i didn't push you right?" and Zeno got up and was like "yea man that totally didn't happen."
If this was true then Jesus would have been famous all over the place he walked in. He wouldn't have been stranger to many by the time he started preaching. You can see early on his work people asking themselves as "isn't this Jesus the son of Joseph" while making reference to his profession. He was just a normal boy. Don't forget that miracles were at the centre of every human race so is today. That never happened. Plus no reference s ever made in the other gospels about his childhood meaning there was nothing serious to include. He was basically not known until He started his job He was asigned by his Father. One thing we miss here is the fact that when the bible was being written others wrote other stuff too. Things like secular writings, myths and so on were being written at the same time. Not every thing ancient should be linked to Christianity. Not everyone was Christian or religious back then just like today.
there is so much obvious failed apologetic in that I dont even know where to begin. No, Jesus didnt wither a young boy with a touch. and no, he didnt walk on water. no, he didnt raise anyone from the dead. and no, jesus didnt rise from his tomb. jesus wasnt a god. he was a jew who lived and died a natural life. Romans crucified him and left his body to rot on the cross for carrion birds. Because that was what the Romans did as a message to other political insurrectionists.
It’s not that unbelievable to me because in those days a woman giving birth outside of marriage would have been killed. Thats apparently when Jesus spoke
Thomas seems to tell the truth more so than any of the other disciples doubting Thomas just for example it was talking about not believing Thomas rather than Thomas not believing, I like this video and I like this gospel sounds more honest
I think many of these questions are what intrigued gnostics. The whole idea of esoteric or special knowledge (codes, special handshakes, secret word, those type of things) are indicative of the essential gnostic background of this story and, of course, the reason no one ever thought of including it in the gospel.
I like the idea that Jesus had to LEARN how to be kind. Makes him a more compelling character in general as it implies that we can all learn to be kind.
I remember somewhere in the New Testament Jesus had a burst of rage against a fig three and cursed him to wither on the spot. So the Gospel of Thomas might be true. I read the Gospel of Thomas and Jesus wasnt only killing people he was also healing his friend and resurrecting people that accidentally died around him. For what I understand Jesus used his divine powers against people that were unnecessarily mean towards Him. I didnt feel like he was walking around killing people.
Definitely going to read the link in the description. I have to admit I surprised myself with how shocked (and how immediate the shock was) at a so-called gospel account describing Jesus as killing not just someone, but multiple someones, and teachers and fellow children at that. I guess growing up with these stories of Jesus in scripture makes it really hard to imagine him killing anyone, and I didn't realize how fully I had internalized that idea as unthinkable.
You mean this gospel was the original "Kid Einstein schools atheist teacher" story? Like those stories what end with "that kids name? Albert Einstein!"
Well, presumably some Christians really liked it since it was circulated around enough to end up in Syriac, Greek, and Latin manuscripts. Since copying and translating was difficult back then (not too many skilled, literate scribes), they would have done this only if they found the text valuable. Having said that, some Christian authorities such as Irenaeus come out pretty early saying that this text is heretical. I believe Irenaeus mentions it in Adversus Haeresis 1.20.1
I wonder if it influenced the closing of schools. Education seemed to drop off unless it was by the Church. I would suspect a few followed his example and killed teachers in real life.
I'm happy to see at last a serious analysis of this gospel. Many christians believe that it's just pure nonsense but the way I understood the text is that is in fact a deep thought on the nature of the son of God. As you implied, during his childhood Jesus is little more than a brat with super powers. Thus, having powers over life and death is not enough to be the true son of God : it is when Jesus realizes the responsability that comes with this power and decides to use it for the good of others that he really becomes the son of God. Overall, a very interesting narration on the nature of power and its wielder.
I remember reading that document decades ago... I remember reading about how the child Jesus causing a boy too go blind because that boy bumped into Him. I stopped reading that book. Not because I believed in Jesus, but because I saw the evil in the child Jesus' activities. That told me that the child Jesus in those stories was a human, not a God. Merely a powerfully enlightened human. Yet as a child, had a lot to learn in a short period of time...
Regarding the childhood of Jesus......When I was visiting Egypt I was surprised to find that the Coptic church there had a narrative telling the travels of Jesus throughout Egypt while living there as a child. Do you know of any back up to this story or was it developed later as an incentive for pilgrimages etc.
@@pascalheimbach861 agreed. There seems to be a similar storytelling approach when you compare tales from the papyrus regarding the exploits of the Priest of Ptah to the prophets of the bible.
Great analysis, man! It really got me thinking that the first Christians would reject anything that could remind of Roman nobility. Classical education would certainly be a symbol of Roman nobility.
Actually Jesus was a threat to the Jewish way of life under Mosaic Law. His death symbolizing the end of the Mosaic Law and the beginning of Roman Christianity. This is why Jesus is portrayed as winning against his father and the Pharisees
Dr. Henry, do you think that the antimony between Jesus and his teachers mirrors the strain between 2nd century Christians and Jews? Does Jesus' cursings of his peers and elders represent (increasingly Gentile) Christians' anger toward Jews not accepting Jesus as Messiah?
Alarm bells started ringing when he kept referencing jesus with school boys and teachers like there was schools back then. This gospel sounds super fishy.
Ghost Emblem I was thinking the same thing. Why would a poor Jew boy attend school? But I think it might be more of a reference to going to temple and listening to scripture?
Regularly-scheduled schooling in a classroom with a contracted teacher was a well known fact of classical antiquity, especially in towns and cities around the eastern Mediterranean (including towns/villages along the Nile). Note that schools and schoolteachers in classical antiquity were a feature of urban life, but not rural life, where most of the population lived and worked. In classical antiquity, literacy and schooling were a mark of an urban upbringing considered superior to rural life.
There's a story in the Gospels of Thomas where a young Jesus is playing with a friend and angry he pushes him off a wall and he dies. Feeling grief at event Jesus resurrected his friend. I'm honestly upset that the stories of the childhood of Jesus were left out of the bible. I'd like to see more of Jesus's humanity.
I was about to say the same thing.Jesus, stop turning Joseph into a jack in the box or I’m going to take your gold silver and myrrh for an entire month.
I heard this story from about a birds from clay in Russia in my childhood from orthodox priest in school, so it seems it's part of orthodox tradition as well..
It seems like heresy because the creation event in Genesis was the last time God created anything. He was finished it says on the 6th day and rested the 7th.

who taught Jesus to walk who taught Jesus to walk who taught him to read and write who taught him the gospel who taught him to be a carpenter how did he know he was born of a virgin was he born knowing all things maybe his mother and farther had something to do with these things
I love little Jesus, he kind of represents, at least to me, the angry, exhausted and frustrated voice of youth everywhere by human storytelling, particularly in education and the theme of age and knowledge. Thank you little Jesus !!!
I have one question sir, are we supposed to take Jesus' miracles literally? Because I always interpreted as allegories for the power of good actions, am I mistaken?
Most of these extra-biblical accounts fail in one primary area in attempting to answer every question and filling in every gap. They just create more problems mainly making the text too tied too closely the age and time the texts were written. The other issue is that all human beings have to learn. Jesus's knowledge, wisdom, and power cannot be instantaneous, and not only because he was God but also the other reality he was "very much" man. Jesus cannot claim "secret" knowledge. He had to learn from some human teacher, learn to talk, learn to read the Tora like every other Jewish boy. Else this would disqualify him from being the human savor of the world, it would just be God going on the cross there would be "no risk" no weakness of the flesh to impede his progress. Further, this just contradicts all of the stuff in the other gospels. The biggest thing was his hometown friends not recognizing him, they thought him just an ordinary boy they grow up with. He may have been well behaved and kind but these attributes are not things your neighbors tend to remember too deeply about you.
Steve Spence Jesus is the son of satan, and the satanists don't want to let that cat out of the bag, then you'd know you have been praising a false idol and the son of satan. He is the one that garaunteed your soul will go to hell because your sins are not paid for.
Good points. Another one is that the Gospel of John clearly claims that changing water to wine at the wedding feast was His first miracle, and He only did it because His mom asked Him to. In the canonized Gospels, the purpose of Jesus' miracles were to demonstrate God's character and glory in healing the broken world and calling it to redemption. The stories in these kinds of apocryphal 'Gospels' demonstrate a very different sort of character
@@jameswhitley4101 Just to agree with you I was reading this other day Heb 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are-yet he did not sin.
Around the age of 14 Jesus built the very first Christian Church ... in England. It was on the slopes of the highest point on Bodmin Moor popularly known as Brown Willy. The actual place is known as Rough Tor (Rough being pronounced as Row, rhyming with now). This location was described by Blake (in Jerusalem) as the 'dark Satanic mills' - the dark hills of Bodmin Moor. Centuries later the original church fell into ruins and a chapel dedicated to St Michael was built on the spot, that later became one of the places called St Michael's Mount. The church was not at Glastonbury as tourist info states. The Virgin Mary's mother Anna lived in North Devon. It was there she became pregnant with Mary, but Mary was born in Nazareth. Mary returned to her mother's home after the crucifixion, and spent her last days there. A modern house now stands on the spot where Anna lived. She is still known as Saint Anne of Cornwall. The village was later for Centuries known as Mary's Combe, but later became Martin's Combe, and now Combe Martin. Just down the road from the house is a small wood where Mary used to go for walks. It is still known as Mary's Wood. Please use discrimination - there is a LOT of nonsense spoken about Jesus. After the crucifixion he spent some centuries travelling the world, and entered Central America, travelling up through the east coast, staying with various native tribes for weeks, months, and in some cases years. L. Taylor Hansen's book 'He walked the Americas' recounts the native American stories of Jesus' travels amongst them.

Hi, I've read all the comments concerning this subject, and I see that the commentators are pretty well read and very accurate with whatever information they've gathered from various modes, though if you look at things written in olden days by various authors it's all about how they perceived the events in accordance to their mindsets, hence the debate on what was penned down and what is fact may not be consistent. The only way is to appeal to your inner self or what we call is the conscience which I feel is far more ancient than the books/ sources we read,so a perfect being pre-existing time comes into a physical realm there's bound to be incompatibility and for that reason they crucified lord Jesus Christ and to their surprise resurrection was something they couldn't fathom... regards.
Someone did make a comedy about the childhood of Jesus, they're called the Gnostics and they wrote the "gnostic gospels" they are a joke. Only it's really not all that funny.
Why would anyone be making fun of something we don’t know if that relates to our Lord and Savior? Why risk to be condemned for eternity? What gain would you obtain from it besides the praise of the world and yet lose your soul at the end? Are you not afraid of GOD’s power and might?! Would you like someone to make mockery of your mother or father? And would you find it funny? We out to love and respect and fear and honor our Lord and Savior JesusChrist. Amr Abuellil wa alaikum salaam! The ability to speak as a baby is one of the things mentioned in versions of the IGJ. I know the prophet (sws) was illiterate, but that wouldn't have stopped him from speaking to others. Also, the cave in which he went to meditate may have contained a cache of scrolls, similar to the one at Qumran, which he could then have taken to learned men to have read.

In a desert were maybe only one in a million could read, what would bring those scrolls all this way fron jerushalem? And u should consider the thinking of the arabs at that time when u consider "speaking" to others might inlight them about religion, they actually looked down to others because they thought they were the guardians of Ibrahim's religion. And Allah swt mentioned this argument of yoyrs in the Quran : " We know indeed that they say, "It is a man that teaches him." The tongue of him they wickedly point to is notably foreign, while this is Arabic, pure and clear." S16V103 *btw, English is my 3rd lang. Sorry :)

Well the other killings in the same text are a lot less ambiguous. It is certainly not hard to see how I Infancy missed being canonized. (There is a II Infancy as well BTW, but it is only fragmentary.)
I just found your channel and love how you present these ancient non-canon works in a nuanced way. I do wonder, though, if the first instance was truly meant to be interpreted as "killed", because "withered" seems very vague. When I first read it, I assumed that the kid was either rendered sterile, physically weakened, or both.
Thomas, greek for Twin, Didymus, also means Twins or testicles, (there are usially 2) Didymus Judas Thomas, was Jesus christs Brother, which is how he was able to write about the infant God! And growing up, because he was there, they may have even been twins!
These stories are really interesting! Especially since they don’t seem consistent with the canonical NT texts. Jesus turning water into wine at Canna (when he was an adult) is considered his first miracle according to the canonical gospels. Also, Jesus killing people seems inconsistent with the “he who lives by the sword dies by the sword” quote.

(Nrwn Qsr)

Seems like this Jesus would have no trouble handling a few Roman guards, leading to the conclusion Jesus planned on dying on the cross
Yuuuup
bruh he said he will die
He even said he can call upon the angels and they could help him if he wanted but he did not
If this was true then Jesus would have been famous all over the place he walked in.
Jews were familiar with miracles so that didn't amaze a lot of them and I'm pretty amazed how they didn't accept him as the messiah.

THIS IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!! this has got to be made into a movie.
"This would have struck an ancient audience as very weird."
I'm pretty sure this strikes a modern audience as very weird too.
How was the infancy gospel received among early Christians? What was the general consensus on it?
Thanks for the feedback. I do think most people make fun of this text instead of trying to figure out what it is trying to say.
Karakta you call this "serious analysis"?
Karakta to be fair, Gnostic texts and thr Gospel of Thomas is hilarious. #Barbelo

Great analysis, man! It really got me thinking that the first Christians would reject anything that could remind of Roman nobility. Classical education would certainly be a symbol of Roman nobility.

At the time, boys went to the temple and rabbis would teach them about scriptures and stuff. I think that's what "Thomas" was referring to
Regularly-scheduled schooling in a classroom with a contracted teacher was a well known fact of classical antiquity, especially in towns and cities around the eastern Mediterranean (including towns/villages along the Nile). Note that schools and schoolteachers in classical antiquity were a feature of urban life, but not rural life, where most of the population lived and worked. In classical antiquity, literacy and schooling were a mark of an urban upbringing considered superior to rural life.

I have one question sir, are we supposed to take Jesus' miracles literally? Because I always interpreted as allegories for the power of good actions, am I mistaken?
Well, virtually all of the Biblical miracles of Jesus, yes.
@Steve Good point. If Jesus had been behaving like a character from a Steven King story, local people would really have remembered Him.

The only way is to appeal to your inner self or what we call is the conscience which I feel is far more ancient than the books/ sources we read,so a perfect being pre-existing time comes into a physical realm there's bound to be incompatibility and for that reason they crucified lord Jesus Christ and to their surprise resurrection was something they couldn't fathom... regards.

Didymus Judas Thomas, was Jesus christs Brother, which is how he was able to write about the infant God! And growing up, because he was there, they may have even been twins!
Thomas's writings made for good episodes of *The Twilight Zone*, but not so much the gospels
