I suspect the chrome is thin or missing in the bolt tail run of the carrier. This is a common thing going on with BCG's from Microbest as of late. It causes some gas inefficiency.
PAGUNGUY knows this, but many may not. Look up where Microbest is located, its no coincidence. Yes, Colt uses Microbest.
There has been a LOT of issues with Microbest in the past year. Many companies use Microbest and if they dont catch this, problems rear their head.
Colt uses a TDP sized port which is gassed for Nato Pressure 5.56. Any ammo that isnt similar or higher pressure may see these issues if there is inefficiency in the gas system.
Colt uses an H2 in most cases. This can also be a problem with some commercial pressure ammo. The H2 is used because of the heavier profile barrel on the M4A1. The Heavier buffer helps overcome the Newtons Cradle effect (carrier bounce) when firing full auto.
I also suspect there is no sealant between the carrier key and carrier. There could be a loose or broken carrier key screw. The carrier key isnt always loose when a screw is broken. Unfortunately doing checkikg on this part requires some destructive testing, then the key can be replaced. This will void the warranty.
If the carrier key to lower receiver gap wasnt right the key may have been striking the lower. This can break carrier key screws.
Those who claim Colt does not make a good AR are showing theor ignorance. Colt does better than just about everyone in the business when it comes to Q.C. and the TDP.
FN does not sell parts made to TDP spec to the public. The TDP licensing from Colt prevents that. DoD only.

9:30 is really a non issue. One time I tried to make it real pretty using a plastic Glock rod and a nylon bore brush for a shotgun and it got _some_ of it out but it dirtied up the same way again in a few mags so it’s not worth it and doesn’t impact function

I have a 2 year old colt that has eaten 2 sets of gas rings in only 2800 rounds. I will replace it soon enough but the first time I called colt about it they told me tough sht

Yea that’s trash honestly I don’t think there were gonna replace this BCG until I found the flacking of the AR15A4 carrier and they only asked me for pictures of the AR15A4 but I sent them this video and called them out so I think they decided it would be better to replace both. I’m gonna be making a colt warranty/ customer service video once I get the bolts replaced. I really like colt but they need a better warranty at least 5 years and they need better CS beck primary arms replaced the chrome BCG in this video for me based off 2 pictures and told me to keep the only BCG and I didn’t even mention my channel. I have a video up about that I just posted it.

Hello, That’s crazy with the pitting in the chrome. Let me just throw this out there without having any additional knowledge and with the caveat it’s only what I see in your video (which means I’m probably totally wrong, but trying to eliminate possibilities), but I’m looking at that buildup in the back of the socom. That’s where the rings mostly ride, isn’t it? Maybe that bolt can’t ride back far enough…..again, just a wild guess in the process of elimination. Keep us updated!

I really hope Colt takes care of this for you. I’ve really been wanting to buy a Colt AR15A4 because in my mind Colt IS the standard. But seeing this it is truly giving me pause when it comes to making the purchase. Would I be better off getting a FN or a BCM? I really wish I weren’t feeling this way. Thanks for the content

You know I really wanna tell you to get the colt and I’ll tell you this go look at my page and you can see that I’ve had issues with a lot of MFG also check out school of American rifle he looks at all brands. The only thing I will say is I think the other companies will have better CS I would look at who has the best warranty and makes what you want. Everyone puts bad parts out. All this being said I would by my socom again same w the AR15A4. But moving forward I think I’ll look for a MFG with a better warranty.

If anything, FN is the standard these days. They get the government contracts. Colt doesn’t even build half their parts in house

    • @rifleshooterchannel208

@@Almost_Made_ItThey get the government contracts by paying licensing fees to use Colt’s TDP.
And FN also outsources their parts too.

I lived in Taiwan and would pay for medical and dental out of pocket because just that inexpensive and I was obviously a foreigner. Medical and dental in the US is multibillion dollar a year industry…it’s a business. It’s a fact which will probably not change anytime soon.

The only way to visual check these bolts or any bolt or barrel is with a bore scope. They are cheap now and great quality.Colt should take those carriers back. As far as cleaning the inside of the carrier use a brass rod and a good solvent.

Lots of misinformed people making comments. I have seen comments that PSA toolcraft bcg’s are the same company Colt uses. False. As schooloftherifleman has said and explained extensively in the top pinned post Colt uses Microbest. So in fact he had THREE Microbest bcg’s in the video. One being chrome. He stated Microbest had a bad run of BCG’s and MANY use them. Even Honda and Toyota at peak quality put out a lemon. So people are saying buy a Microbest to replace (the Microbest Colt uses) and be done with it. Notice the chrome Microbest seemed to be the quality of Colt? Probably because it isn’t part of the bad runs as OF LATE. Internet “experts” that are not experts telling people that if your barrel or upper doesn’t have a C instead a it’s military cage code seem ridiculous if someone would actually put thought instead of following like sheep. No C?! Military designation cage code means it’s crap now and not QCed properly!!!😂 PSA can stamp a C on their barrels and uppers, it’s a stamp. Colt could have continued putting the C after changing the LE prefix to CR? Could they have possibly made these changes because the AR market was saturated and they thought maybe changing it up to “military cage codes” instead of a C might entice people to choose it because the LE’s with the C’s weren’t moving at the time? They have the same forge markings on the upper they always used. Many have the square. I have the Keyhole next to my cage code and have seen the C’s with a Keyhole next to it also. It’s Cerre lone(spelling?). The Keyhole represents they forged the upper and are used by Colt, BCM etc.. The square is another reputable forging company that does Colt, BCM etc. My Bushmaster has a broken (A) on the upper. Anchor Harvey forging. Another reputable forger that MANY use. They no longer have the white little paint dot on the bolt… See the military wouldn’t except this bolt without the dot!? Colt could have continued to slap on dot on. And if Colt hadn’t changed the LE prefix and other markings then the guy that sounded like a conspiracy crackpot to me would have said yep this is still a “true” Colt and up to military standards. They probably don’t put a useless white dot because they aren’t for the US military anymore 🤷‍♂️. The bolt still made by the same company that had the white dots to the same specs. I see a growing problem with internet “influencers”. And the AK guys? Which I collect mostly… are worse! They will convince poor people trying to enjoy the rifle they purchased with 8k rounds thru it no issues that it’s garbage, a hand grenade that is going to blow up in the face, safety at stake! But that’s all they have, no evidence that it’s true. Do imports like the WASR 10 last much longer? Yes. It’s a military grade rifle made on a military line by people that have been producing them since 1961. Does it make one that may last 20k rounds or so garbage? No. And you pay less for them. If you can afford the ammunition to break one you can afford to 5 others on hand to replace it! My Colt LE 6920 FDE SL Magpul edition was made in July 2018. Has the M4 carbine marked lower with both Colt logos and but the CR prefix. My MPC marking on my bolt is colored in (laser) yellow. Just like the ones with that all important white paint dot. It’s a Colt. Oh and them changing the lower and putting the horsie in the circle only looks like the old military versions and AR versions. So you think maybe the changes were made to entice people to buy them? The removed the M4 on newer versions also and put just Carbine. It’s still the same rifle. Now my rifle was made before Colt was bought by CZ but by 2020 the changes were already made. I am surprised his upper has no cage code. BUT it has the square forging mark like I have seen on BCM uppers I’ve looked at. Companies sell all the time. It’s still a Colt only corporate owners are different. BTW, the European CIP Colt rifles made for .223 ONLY that an over run has them for sale now has that all important “C” instead of the cage codes. It’s also got serial numbers on all major parts like Eastern European AK’s. I personally don’t want a .223 only “M4”. Now for a collectible? Let’s please stop the madness. Colts warranty I agree isn’t long enough but how many people got the bad run of these Microbest BCG’s? They either caught it early enough or just put another bcg? 🤷‍♂️ How many companies got them? Those would have made it to the military and been corrected. The bolts are held to the TDP military specifications. Microbest dropped the ball or maybe tried to see if they could get away with it with no notice. They haven’t. And like the maker of these videos keeps saying, he isn’t bashing Colt. Videos like these are informative for anyone to look out for an issue that can occur to any manufacturer. If you pay 4k for it, it can still happen to your GUCCI rifle. Buy whatever rifle you like and enjoy it while being mindful if you run into issues. If so have it fixed. Almost all defects show up quickly. PSA has that warranty due to the QC backlog they have. I have seen pictures of their brand new Nickle Toolcraft BCG’s unusable out of the box. Dents and nicks. EMPTY packages with NO bolt in them. Colt doesn’t have these problems. Do they have some occasionally like everyone? Yes. No manufacturer is perfect. But not like THAT. You buy COLT for its quality and 99% of people receive it out of the box. The other 1% warranty give or take a few exceptions where the customer didn’t catch it. And that’s why he made these videos. This happens🤷‍♂️ Good luck and happy shooting man. Am looking to make a Colt M4fery that looks like your set up! I was looking at the FN but I know now they can’t sell the military TDP parts on their rifles to civilians as Colt is able. So my ABC’s of AR’s is still Armalite, Bushmaster and Colt. I don’t need a 4k AR. I’m an AK guy and may drop that on a pre ban AK! Armalite rifles with 2 stage match triggers, a 416 R nitrided match barrel and an adjustable gas block are being sold on PSA’s website for as low as 699$ for the “M4” version and $749 for the 16 inch free float mlok rail mid length gas system version right now. An 18 in barrel version for 789$! You couldn’t buy the parts and build these for half the cost they are selling them right now!? List cost on Armalites website is $1800 for these models. I am grabbing one because when they are gone I will kick myself for passing on them! Peace shooters!

I think you need to email SOTAR and see if he will do physicals on both bcgs for you, or you need to get the gages to check for yourself. The other bcg with the pitting looks like they tried to "fill in" the pitting with chrome and it has seemed to work but its still no excuse for poor work. The rough matte finish on the socom chrome is strange tho, like it has oxidized (which it shouldnt) but it could be the same case of shoddy craftmanship trying to be covered up by chrome. I inspect any firearm I buy new and if the dealer wont let me do a full inspection I dont give them my money. I know you dont want it to be a bash Colt video, but the truth of it seems to be shoddy work from them and they got your money and you got the short end of the deal. Replace both BCGs and dont buy anything else Colt again.

Ive actually been communicating with him over the past week he is willing to take both BCGs in just trying to get Colt to do the right thing and replace both BCGs. He is gonna watch this video and give me his thoughts I’m gonna sent this to Colt give it a week or so see what happens if they don’t replace both or even the one. There both gonna be sent to him.

@@THEPAGUNGUY cool, hope it works out for you. I would steer clear of Colt anymore. They are not what they used to be as a firearms manufacturer and CZ buying them has not impressed me. There are so many AR manufacturers that surpass Colt in quality and customer service that for Colt money you can get a reliable rifle, ammo, and maybe even a training class for the money. Have a good one!
