I wanted to put this comment in the open - these are probably not the MOST expensive colored pencils out there, but it was a big deal to me. Of all the research I did for pencils I considered, this happened to be the priciest. I don’t think I actually came across any that topped this (not why I got them though). Anyway, please don’t give me hash! Also, prices fluctuate quite a lot, so what I paid may be different than what it costs in stores and online. ☺️ This decision literally took me two years because I really am frugal. But I am excited to push myself more and have the confidence to sell more of my drawings!! Much love 💜
There about £235 that's about $280 But I got the wooden display box with them. They were the most expensive pencils out there as the range is only 72 colours but I love that you never need any other colour.
The Caran D’ache Luminance are actually the most expensive coloured pencil on the market. The Derwent Lightfast coloured pencils are a close second though.
Why would anyone give you grief over buying art supplies? You are a artist, a very good one at that. Are you supposed to use crayons all your life? This isn't really something that actually happens is it? No one would expect a jeweller to make sll his jewelry out ouf glass, no matter how pretty he could make it so why shouldn't you have the diamonds and emeralds of art supplies? The simple answer is..... you can and you better cuz you darn well deserve it young lady 😊
I am saddened anytime I see a creator have to explain themselves or “see comments from a mile away.” They are in a video, sure, but they’re still real people. People throw so many stones in their glass houses. 🤦🏻♀️
Mira Byler oh hey no need to get fretting over getting any hash over what you paid - I mean, it's your money right? None of anyone's biz what ya spend it on 😊 they are lookin pretty awesome though!! 😍😍
you are so blessed!! I'm 72 yrs young right now. when I was younger, I use to draw a good bit, got away from it, then back. I taught Sunday School n drew a lot of pictures. But, I'm the artist who has to LOOK at the picture. I don't draw much anymore, but I color a lot..God has totally blessed you.! I also use Prisms color, and I live them. I'm going to check the New Ones out m start saving. thank you for sharing, I may start back!!!! God bless you n yours
I love your realism stuff, whether it is an avocado or an eye. Please do more when you are able. I like watching your process because it is fascinating and it helps me to learn.
Good lord thats crazy amazing 😍 wow I’ve just invested in some polychromos and the watercolours too I’m just playing around nowhere near your level but those pencils look amazing too I think I may have dribbled they look so scrumptious 😆 you deserve them you you are an amazing artist i hope they bring you lots of joy💜
Lovely piece! Now I have to check these out. A tip for your prismas, if they break, wrap them in a warm wheat heat pack, the wax melts a little and then they are fine again.
Those pencils look AMAZING! Love your eye, totally understand the pressure realism puts you under though. Can only imagine how much work it is to edit.
I’m so pleased for you in finally getting your hearts desire! I love watching you chill on RUclips and as for realism, I adore it and would very much enjoy seeing more of it whenever you feel like sharing ❤️❤️
I love seeing my favorite artists dip into realism now and then, whether they do it off camera all the time, or not at all, it's fun to watch you guys do what you do
I totally know how you feel! I bought myself the Faber Castell Albrecht Durer pencils 3 years ago. The full wooden box and it cost me a fortune (€259) But everytime I see and open it, Infeel so fortunate to be able to buy this for myself! I think it’s the best gift ever. Never apologise for it 🤗
Mira, I just have to tell you that subbing to your channel was one of the best decisions I've made in A VERY long time! I especially love the realism sketches you do and the practical sketching trick videos you do as well. I am an amateur artist and sketching is my strong suit, but I'm trying to go more towards other artistic outlets and your videos make me seriously want to get back into serious sketching. I just wanted to pop in and thank you for making these types of videos because I am entertained and I also just love that when I am also stressed or need to relax, I can turn on one of your videos, turn down the volume, and just veg out on your art. You are so amazing, Mira! Please don't ever give up on your creativity because it is helping me and so many other people get through life. God bless you! 🙏🏻
Your happines and excitment in the opening process felt so good to watch haha. I hope you will have a good time using them! And when i get a new supply i don't even swatch them (I just start use them like nothing is happened) because i'm impatent.
This piece is gorgeous and so are the pencils 💕 When I try new art supplies, I usually draw/paint loose florals. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your new babies 😆
That. Was. Beautiful! I kid you not. I really loved how well the picture came out. You are so talented Mira. I would.really love to see.more of the art that beings you joy and peace. That would bring me joy.
I actually think that the texture of the paper coming through adds a bit of realistic dimension to it. If you get that up close and personal to your skin, it IS textured like that, with all the tiny little pores of your skin, and microscopic wrinkles. :)
your art is absolutely amazing Mira! Especially your realism, i'd love to see more of it! ive never really been good at it but i always catch myself drawing eyes on all my school work and because of that ive gotten better at drawing them so theres a plus.
What a beautiful piece! I love it! Yeah, I certainly have some things I naturally go to. I have a couple of OCs that I can draw instantly from heart and they are probably the most comfortable thing I can draw. And dinosaurs. I just love drawing them. Because there is no real pressure in making them look just right because we don't know what 'just right' really was. I like to go crazy coloring them.
Love, love, love this. I think you should do more of what makes you happy in art. From a viewers perspective I always enjoy the videos from RUclips artists when they are doing what they love. The passion comes across and is really infectious and always makes me want to do art more, and as a very enthusiastic amateur I feel I learn a lot more too. Thank you for this video.
Gorgeous😍 YES to more realism! But a big fat NO to more stress of course😉 I tend to art journal when I need to process stuff. Usually acrylics in an A4 sized journal, then I can really let go. Sometimes I write too. Hope you're feeling well 💕
Omg Myra that eye was AMAZING!! The highlight was so realistic I thought it was almost real lol.Your sooooooooo outstanding at drawing and your realism look real, I know I'd love to see more of realism on your channel it's very satisfying too. I really appreciate how much effort you put in to it, I can barely draw 1 eye straight and when I try and draw the other eye it always turns out lopsided! I know there is no chance you'll see this but I wanted to type it anyway so if you do you'll feel happy. Like so Myra can see this and if you agree! 👍
I loved this video and this piece! I found it so relaxing to watch. I would definitely watch more realism videos if you felt up to editing and posting them!
the lightfastness in these is what makes it worth it to me! i love prismacolor pencils (and i still think they are creamier than luminance) but i mix the most lightfast colors from prismacolor with my luminance. works great :) loved how the eye turned out!
Girl I feel you on this! I usually take forever to purchase pricier art supplies. I tend to draw still life objects because that is comfortable to me. I loved this! You're so talented!
It is a dream of mine to own a set of these pencils. I am so excited for you and that eye is amazing. Some days I just need to doodle and other days I really enjoy seeing how realistic I can draw or paint something. I do get lost in the shading here and shading there and building layers. So relaxing.
I own a sewing and bag making business and when im stressed and overwhelmed with pressure i pick up my art supplies and draw. You have just produced a beautiful drawing of the eye you definitely need to do more.
When I’m testing out marker’s I always draw a red bird’s eye with a few feathers around it. For some reason I feel like the pigmentation of the reds is a good indicator for the rest of the colors. When I’m testing watercolors I go for a fish or a flower bud in cool gem tones for the same reason, and when I’m testing colored pencils I draw a realistic m&m in whatever color has the widest range of shades, so I can test how realistic I can get with them and see how crappily the white layers over other colors.
Haha, I love the different things you go to for testing! Definitely agree with you on testing reds for colored pencil sets! It’s always hard to get a nice range of them!
Wow!!! And woah! You are awesome at realism! I'm not a realism artist, it's lovely seeing a realism piece come together on camera by you 😍😍😍😍👍 totally enjoyed the video Yep, when trying new art supplies I tend to go to my African Hunter designs, or Apple designs as my go to familiar things to draw. Those pencils are wicked expensive but a must for selling artwork as yes great light fastness but also they are the gold dust of professional pencil artists 😊
Beautiful piece. I love the realism even if it is just sharing your finished pieces. Gave me something to think about as an outlet. I used to do eyes or hands and have not in years. Might be a great destressing technique.
I also draw eyes when I’m testing new art supplies, it’s nice to have something you can just autopilot so you can focus on the actual art supplies you are using not what you are drawing ☺️
I have the full set of Caran d’Ache, but I actually prefer the Polychromos. Don’t get me wrong, I really do like the Caran d’Ache, but for me, the feel of the Polychromos is better. They do work quite well together, though, so I use both. I do agree that the packaging for the Caran d’Ache is top notch! I think the biggest problem for me is that I did ONE drawing with my Caran d’Ache pencils when I first got them, and the 2 colors I used most were over 30% gone. I mean, these pencils are ridiculously expensive to get used up that quickly. By contrast, my Polychromos look almost unused after quite a few drawings. It just makes a huge difference for me. And I have to sharpen the Polychromos less often, too.
I would love to see more realism drawings or realism mini tutorials. For instance, the eye you drew in this video, just talking through your process would be cool...as long as it doesn’t take out the fun and relaxing nature of doing realism for you ☺️
I LOVE the realism thing! Im sorry you've been so stressed out but happy you love your new pencils. I could go on... But... I wanna see that Snape picture now!!! 💖💖💖
I only have the neutral shades in that product range and a few light shade because they are WAY more opaque than my polychromos but I never made the decision to get a full set. They are amazing still, and Caran d'ache is like THE best brand for pencils. Even their more affordable range, the pablo pencils are super pigmented and opaque, I love using this on top of watercolors.
Wow. Just... Wow. That looks ABSOLUTELY stunning. That iris.. Wow. I don't comment on a lot of videos but this time I had to. It looks amazing, please keep doing realism. Actually always keep doing what YOU like, cuz I believe that brings out the best art. ❤
I'm a artist myself, and sadly I don't have the equipment or courage to become a art youtuber. However, I love watching all the other artist on here doing things they love, and I say if you love realism do more of it and show off to others on RUclips even if its small pieces like this for just an eye this is a amazing piece! And my distressing process is either drawing cartoony/anime style or animals (realistically or somewhere between realism and cartoon/anime style)
I totally love this!! I think if you stop doing the things you love, you won't want to create RUclips videos anymore. We don't want you to leave!!! I love watching your videos
EVERY NOW AND THEN U DESERVE TO GET SOMETHING REALLY SPECIAL,ESPECIALLY IF U WORK HARD AND DONT SPLURGE ALOT ON URSELF. I AM SAVING FOR PENCILS WHICH I HOPE TO GET BY UPCOMING BIRTHDAY AND CHRISTMAS .GLUCK WITH THEM.
That's stunning! 😁 I find watercolour very calming (even though they used to frustrate me in the past! 😁. I also like being out in my garden, potting up containers. 😊
Wooooow Mira!!!! That eye!! 😱😱😍😍 you are gonna looooove these pencils sooo much and I would looove to see some more realism. This is soo damn nice!!! Have fun with your new pencils!!!
This is so good! Something for me to aspire to. I’m sorry you felt you had to justify buying them though and I hope it didn’t spoil it for you when you had waited so long for them. Looking forward to seeing what else you do with them! I’m 17 pencils off a full set of Polychromos...gradually buying them over time...so these Luminance may be my next goal 🙂
As I'm a complete beginner artist, when I need to switch off I do paint by numbers (just the cheap stuff from ebay and then add more paint where I either feel it needs a bit extra or just simply run out - these pots are small!). Friends in the background and Bob's your uncle. :)
You should do more of whatever makes you happy! Your realism is amazing and you should incorporate more of that into your channel. But no matter what kind of content you create it will be awesome as long as YOU'RE having fun!
This is a great review! I’m so glad more people are giving attention to the luminance pencils. Just to let you know, when selling your art, the luminance are completely lightfast however the majority of the colours in the prismacolor range are not. So be careful when using them together because your drawings can no longer be labeled as lightfast :/ I would love to see more realism from you!
My go to is also eyes! If I like the supply, I go to full face. Man you're so fortunate to be able to afford those! :D I only just last year, bought my first prismacolours! I had been working with Crayola and Laurentian up until last year. And I'm in my 30s!
I love watching people draw realism but I understand all the work that goes into it, not personally but I get it. I can't wait to save up money for these as colored pencils are my favorite to work with. I love your art and yes I always go to what I'm comfortable with when trying new mediums. Love that eye, tfs!
So realistic and beautiful! I don’t know if you can tell but just in case you can I would like to say… I haven’t watched your five ways to fill your sketchbook video yet because I’m waiting until I actually use my sketchbook. (with no idea what to draw)
I paint either lips or hands every time I try a new art supply or medium! I've been debating buying Polychromos or Luminance pencils for about 6 months now. I got an Arteza set just because I was sick of dealing with prismacolors breaking. Thank you for the demo!
I love your eye drawing! Such a beautiful eye! To fight stress I pick up one of my favorite coloring books and look for flowers or buildings, I also sing 😊🎨🎶🎼🎤
Just found you. Lovely piece. I haven't done much with colored pencils, I have no idea how to go about using them well. My go-to when I need to introvert is either a book or curling up in bed watching art videos on youtube :)
Wow...that eye!💜 My go to drawing is either intertwined vines or a tree with lots of twisty branches. My style is mostly landscape type art. I'm not a huge color pencil artist but I use them with watercolor a lot. I bought the Arteza professional 72 set. Which is fine for me because I scan my art and don't have to worry about lightfastness. The Luminescence should be great for you since you sell originals. I'm so happy you finally got them 😁
great looking eye :) adding the small bit of green really made iris pop. Love Luminance pencils, bit so much money, but worth it hmm my creative outlet would probably be etching, you just zone out doing it
I love caran d'ache colored pencils, Luminance are actually the most expensive colored pencils in the world, I know a box of Holbein costs 300 dollars, but it has 150 pencils, so Luminance are still more expensive, I have some mostly skin tones, and I also have the 120 box of caran d'ache Pablo, which are amazing too, in some ways I like them more than the Luminance, they don't blend as well, the lead is much harder which is great for details but they're still highly pigmented, I'm doing hyperrealistic art and they just work amazingly, polychromos has beautiful tones but they're too hard IMO, you made the right choice picking the Luminance over them. Amazing drawing btw! 😃
In 1981, San Francisco, I bought a 18 pencil Caran d'Ache set and paid what waa exorbitant to me...i still have it and just now discovered they are watercolor pencils.....never saw the little gold umbrella before. $20.00 now. Note to self: don't hoard out of fear of not having enough money to replace. Use your treasures and your art will bless others.
I love seeing the other side of your art which isn't necessarily your usual more simplistic style(don't get me wrong I love your style and other pieces)! For me, when trying out a new art supply or something I always tend to resort back to mushrooms haha
I just bought a set of pastel colored set of Holbein from Japan! Ohhhh myy they were spendy but I can’t wait to get them! You get excited over new art supplies like I do 😁
I’d love to see you doing more realism stuff. That eye looks so amazing!
shadow why do you steal “Art Whisps” comment
None of anyone's biz what ya spend it on 😊
they are lookin pretty awesome though!! 😍😍
you are so blessed!! I'm 72 yrs young right now. when I was younger, I use to draw a good bit, got away from it, then back. I taught Sunday School n drew a lot of pictures. I love your realism stuff, whether it is an avocado or an eye. Please do more when you are able. I like watching your process because it is fascinating and it helps me to learn.
Damn, Mira. I never knew how fun it would be to watch someone draw realism. That was stunning and inspiring.
You should definitely do more realism.
You should do it if it makes you feel happy and comfortable.
Those pencils are a dream come true!
Would love to see more realistic pieces! The eye looks amazing!

I like how the paper shows threw its different and its texture I love ur work. Thank You for sharing
I was just about to comment the same thing! I really liked that effect. :)
I’m so pleased for you in finally getting your hearts desire! I love watching you chill on RUclips and as for realism, I adore it and would very much enjoy seeing more of it whenever you feel like sharing ❤️❤️

Mira, I just have to tell you that subbing to your channel was one of the best decisions I've made in A VERY long time!
Aww thank you for sharing that! Your comment was honestly very inspiring and encouraging! 💜
i love the realism, you're so talented
I love watching you do realism. I struggle with realism myself and watching you helps me.
Your happines and excitment in the opening process felt so good to watch haha. I hope you will have a good time using them!
And when i get a new supply i don't even swatch them (I just start use them like nothing is happened) because i'm impatent.

This piece is gorgeous and so are the pencils 💕
When I try new art supplies, I usually draw/paint loose florals. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your new babies 😆
Yes...more realism drawings! You are very talented and I enjoy watching you work
Damn Mira! Where have you been hiding this amazing talent? This is stunning.

Congratts in the new pencil treasure! And what a magnificent eye you make, so shiny! I was amazing. Greatings from Buenos Aires Argentina
Thanks Mariela!! :)

I love realism! I also love your enthusiasm for art. Please share more of what you enjoy creating!
I actually just drew a realistic cat eye and now since I’ve watched this, I’ve found so many more things I can improve on! Thank u!😄
Gorgeous😍 YES to more realism! But a big fat NO to more stress of course😉 I tend to art journal when I need to process stuff. Usually acrylics in an A4 sized journal, then I can really let go. Sometimes I write too. Hope you're feeling well 💕
I love your realism,. I like to draw and listen to music to help me cope with life.

Like so Myra can see this and if you agree! 👍
Ah thanks Heather!
So happy for you, you are obviously delighted with your new pencil and the eye is gorgeous
My go to is eyes too.
I even draw them as something fun to draw.
They are probably the thing I draw the most.

Wow, so realistic! Thanks for sharing, Mira.
Wow Mira! The final drawing looked amazing!!! :D
That eye you done is absolutely superb😊I really enjoyed watching you create it and I'd love to see you do more like this😊
Thank you!
Oh my goodness! I’m very happy for you! You surely deserve these pencils! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Wow!!! And woah! You are awesome at realism! I'm not a realism artist, it's lovely seeing a realism piece come together on camera by you 😍😍😍😍👍 totally enjoyed the video

And my distressing process is either drawing cartoony/anime style or animals (realistically or somewhere between realism and cartoon/anime style)
This is actually one of my favorite pieces from you and I look forward to seeing you do more realism cause, it seems to be your passion
I totally love this!! I think if you stop doing the things you love, you won't want to create RUclips videos anymore. We don't want you to leave!!! I love watching your videos
I love drawing eyes! That's like what I practice realism on!
I love seeing your realism work
EVERY NOW AND THEN U DESERVE TO GET SOMETHING REALLY SPECIAL,ESPECIALLY IF U WORK HARD AND DONT SPLURGE ALOT ON URSELF.
Thank you! I think I'm going to be hooked on using these pencils for a while, haha!!
It’s your business.. it’s your money .., the luminance are such a joy to work with. They’re sooo soft and smooth.
Hey, you’re almost to 100K. Woohoo 🎉
Ahh, that's so exciting! :D
Thanks!
I love both your stylistic art and the realism 😊
When ever I buy anything for art I check ALL the RUclips reviews ALL Amazon reviews I check EVERYTHING before I even think about buying it!
OMG I WISH I HAD ART SKILL LIKE THAT LOVE UR REALISM LIKE ITS AWSOME!!! Love u and ur drawing pieces❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
My go to is also eyes! If I like the supply, I go to full face.
Man you're so fortunate to be able to afford those! :D
I only just last year, bought my first prismacolours!
Ahh that’s so cool! What kind of stuff do you like to draw with colored pencils?
This is the first video of yours I’ve ever seen, but wow. You’re so talented!!! I’d love to see some realism!!
Love the detail! It looks great and I would love to see more work like this :)
Thanks!
I always draw eyes when I get new supplies...so I really feel you😂
I love your eye drawing!
I'm so happy you finally got them 😁
Your artwork sounds so beautiful from the way you describe it! The arteza colored pencils are amazing quality!!
great looking eye :) adding the small bit of green really made iris pop. Love Luminance pencils, bit so much money, but worth it
hmm my creative outlet would probably be etching, you just zone out doing it
Etching!!! Whoa!! So cool!
I absolutely love that eye! I'd think it'd be awesome to see a little more of your realistic work.
That eye looks amazing ♥
I would love to see more realism from you!
My go to are eyes too!
Very well said!
I have literally been waiting for this video
Woohoo!! I feel like colored pencils have been hiding in the shadows of RUclips lately. Haha
Mira Byler I agree
This was amazing, the drawing is exactly what I love to do “not that I am good at it” but I am glad i clicked on this video.
You get excited over new art supplies like I do 😁
That sounds like a beautiful color selection!
What a beautiful work! And beautiful coloured pencils, too.
