  • @MiraByler
    @MiraByler  5 лет назад +230

    I wanted to put this comment in the open - these are probably not the MOST expensive colored pencils out there, but it was a big deal to me. Of all the research I did for pencils I considered, this happened to be the priciest. I don’t think I actually came across any that topped this (not why I got them though). Anyway, please don’t give me hash! Also, prices fluctuate quite a lot, so what I paid may be different than what it costs in stores and online. ☺️ This decision literally took me two years because I really am frugal. But I am excited to push myself more and have the confidence to sell more of my drawings!! Much love 💜

      There about £235 that's about $280 But I got the wooden display box with them. They were the most expensive pencils out there as the range is only 72 colours but I love that you never need any other colour.

      The Caran D’ache Luminance are actually the most expensive coloured pencil on the market. The Derwent Lightfast coloured pencils are a close second though.

      Why would anyone give you grief over buying art supplies? You are a artist, a very good one at that. Are you supposed to use crayons all your life? This isn't really something that actually happens is it? No one would expect a jeweller to make sll his jewelry out ouf glass, no matter how pretty he could make it so why shouldn't you have the diamonds and emeralds of art supplies? The simple answer is..... you can and you better cuz you darn well deserve it young lady 😊

      I am saddened anytime I see a creator have to explain themselves or “see comments from a mile away.” They are in a video, sure, but they’re still real people. People throw so many stones in their glass houses. 🤦🏻‍♀️

    Mira, I just have to tell you that subbing to your channel was one of the best decisions I've made in A VERY long time! I especially love the realism sketches you do and the practical sketching trick videos you do as well. I am an amateur artist and sketching is my strong suit, but I'm trying to go more towards other artistic outlets and your videos make me seriously want to get back into serious sketching.
    I just wanted to pop in and thank you for making these types of videos because I am entertained and I also just love that when I am also stressed or need to relax, I can turn on one of your videos, turn down the volume, and just veg out on your art. You are so amazing, Mira! Please don't ever give up on your creativity because it is helping me and so many other people get through life.
    God bless you! 🙏🏻

    I actually think that the texture of the paper coming through adds a bit of realistic dimension to it. If you get that up close and personal to your skin, it IS textured like that, with all the tiny little pores of your skin, and microscopic wrinkles. :)

    What a beautiful piece! I love it! Yeah, I certainly have some things I naturally go to. I have a couple of OCs that I can draw instantly from heart and they are probably the most comfortable thing I can draw. And dinosaurs. I just love drawing them. Because there is no real pressure in making them look just right because we don't know what 'just right' really was. I like to go crazy coloring them.

    Omg Myra that eye was AMAZING!! The highlight was so realistic I thought it was almost real lol.Your sooooooooo outstanding at drawing and your realism look real, I know I'd love to see more of realism on your channel it's very satisfying too. I really appreciate how much effort you put in to it, I can barely draw 1 eye straight and when I try and draw the other eye it always turns out lopsided! When I’m testing out marker’s I always draw a red bird’s eye with a few feathers around it. For some reason I feel like the pigmentation of the reds is a good indicator for the rest of the colors. When I’m testing watercolors I go for a fish or a flower bud in cool gem tones for the same reason, and when I’m testing colored pencils I draw a realistic m&m in whatever color has the widest range of shades, so I can test how realistic I can get with them and see how crappily the white layers over other colors.

    • @MiraByler
      @MiraByler  5 лет назад

    I have the full set of Caran d’Ache, but I actually prefer the Polychromos. Don’t get me wrong, I really do like the Caran d’Ache, but for me, the feel of the Polychromos is better. They do work quite well together, though, so I use both. I do agree that the packaging for the Caran d’Ache is top notch!
    I think the biggest problem for me is that I did ONE drawing with my Caran d’Ache pencils when I first got them, and the 2 colors I used most were over 30% gone. I mean, these pencils are ridiculously expensive to get used up that quickly. By contrast, my Polychromos look almost unused after quite a few drawings. It just makes a huge difference for me. And I have to sharpen the Polychromos less often, too.

    • @MiraByler

    I only have the neutral shades in that product range and a few light shade because they are WAY more opaque than my polychromos but I never made the decision to get a full set. They are amazing still, and Caran d'ache is like THE best brand for pencils. Even their more affordable range, the pablo pencils are super pigmented and opaque, I love using this on top of watercolors.

    This is a great review! I’m so glad more people are giving attention to the luminance pencils. Just to let you know, when selling your art, the luminance are completely lightfast however the majority of the colours in the prismacolor range are not. So be careful when using them together because your drawings can no longer be labeled as lightfast :/ I would love to see more realism from you!

    I paint either lips or hands every time I try a new art supply or medium!
    I've been debating buying Polychromos or Luminance pencils for about 6 months now. I got an Arteza set just because I was sick of dealing with prismacolors breaking. Thank you for the demo!

    To fight stress I pick up one of my favorite coloring books and look for flowers or buildings, I also sing 😊🎨🎶🎼🎤

    Just found you. Lovely piece. I haven't done much with colored pencils, I have no idea how to go about using them well.
    My go-to when I need to introvert is either a book or curling up in bed watching art videos on youtube :)

    Wow...that eye!💜 My go to drawing is either intertwined vines or a tree with lots of twisty branches. My style is mostly landscape type art. I'm not a huge color pencil artist but I use them with watercolor a lot. I bought the Arteza professional 72 set. Which is fine for me because I scan my art and don't have to worry about lightfastness. The Luminescence should be great for you since you sell originals. I'm so happy you finally got them 😁

    great looking eye :) adding the small bit of green really made iris pop. Love Luminance pencils, bit so much money, but worth it
    hmm my creative outlet would probably be etching, you just zone out doing it

    I love caran d'ache colored pencils, Luminance are actually the most expensive colored pencils in the world, I know a box of Holbein costs 300 dollars, but it has 150 pencils, so Luminance are still more expensive, I have some mostly skin tones, and I also have the 120 box of caran d'ache Pablo, which are amazing too, in some ways I like them more than the Luminance, they don't blend as well, the lead is much harder which is great for details but they're still highly pigmented, I'm doing hyperrealistic art and they just work amazingly, polychromos has beautiful tones but they're too hard IMO, you made the right choice picking the Luminance over them. Amazing drawing btw! 😃

    In 1981, San Francisco, I bought a 18 pencil Caran d'Ache set and paid what waa exorbitant to me...i still have it and just now discovered they are watercolor pencils.....never saw the little gold umbrella before. $20.00 now. Note to self: don't hoard out of fear of not having enough money to replace. Use your treasures and your art will bless others.

    I love seeing the other side of your art which isn't necessarily your usual more simplistic style(don't get me wrong I love your style and other pieces)! For me, when trying out a new art supply or something I always tend to resort back to mushrooms haha
