      I have both the sets, of these pencils (except for the newer colors) and both are great. However if you like to use OMS to blend I find the lightfast blends better that way. Luminance is slightly less opaque and need to be layered a bit more. They both hold a good tip and are great for details. The lightfast lays down a bit faster and opaque so a good choice for backgrounds. I still end up reaching for my Polychromos a lot over these, but it might be because I’m just more used to the colors and can pick my colors faster. Hope that helps a bit ❤️

    I still love watching reviews despite owning the pencil already😂 (pencil obsession). As you were swatching the colors in order, I really could see how many skin tones there are. No wonder I’m having so much fun coloring the portrait with them right now! The picture came out bright and pretty, I’m tempted to buy that lightfast paper but eeekk the price! Also, I am excited for your lightfast + luminance video👀 they look so similar. My Cassel earth is scratchy also, but luckily my Indian yellow isn’t and I hear that one is a problem for a lot of people

    Hi Becky, sorry to see Melbourne is in another lock down, I'm sure we feel a bit bit smug here in the West, but it might be just a matter of time. Time will tell.
    Another great review, I only have a couple of pencils I bought from Jackson's UK. I haven't found a stockist here in the West. I have just completed my collection of all polychromos buying a half dozen at time over the past five years, feels wonderful and I just loved swatching them out. I also lashed out with birthday money I got and bought the full set of prismacolors as raved about by Lindsay the frugal crafter. I loved them both swatching and running my fingers over them and admiring the colour spectrum...mmm. love your videos and watching you draw, sketch and colour paint or even diamond, keep safe and a big thanks for great content

    Hi I actually was looking at videos on RUclips to see what people were saying about these pencils specifically for some of the reveiws on the darker earthier tones as I had found them gritty and almost a hard chalky consistency it's been very frustrating as I can't seem to get a smooth line on these colours even when the led is at its sharpest ... not good when doing portrait drawings where fine line work is needed . Im actually wanting to know are the prisma colour pencils better for this I just spent so much money on the luminance :(

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  2 года назад

      Oh I'm sorry to hear that! I have found the darkest Cassel Earth to be the worst in the bunch. Prismacolor are usually smoother but my set has been an absolute nightmare for sharpening as they will break really, really easily and it drives me insane! Might I suggest Derwent Lightfast. They have some nice dark browns, such as chocolate, which I've found to be very good. Somewhere in my video collection is a review on the Lightfast pencils, and I also swatched both entire sets of Luminance and Lightfast together, so you can see how the colours complement each other. I hope this helps!

    Such an expensive set and there are barely any purple pencils. Polychromos has better colour selection in my opinion.

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  2 года назад

      Fair point! I think the difference is when you start looking at the lightfast ratings of the purples as they are notoriously difficult to gain a high rating, and so I think from memory Caran d'Ache's ones are the limited few which are known to be lightfast, whereas Polychromos do have a few in there which are rated closer to the fugitive side. I'd need to go through both sets to compare them, but I am sure that's one of the main differences. Otherwise, Polys are a great set of pencils so I have nothing to complain about with them either. I enjoy both brands! 😆❤

    • @Carolina-rd3gh
      @Carolina-rd3gh 2 года назад

      @@BeckyTregear I think that’s exactly the reason: sacrificing colour scheme to be able to market them as more light fast. However, for me I’d prefer the inclusion of more purple even if they aren’t the most light fast instead of colours too similar to the existing ones because when you have barely any purples you’ll have to create them from scratch every time, which can be a hassle if you want to use a type of purple that is simply not included quite frequently. Because of this, Caran D’Ache have a less versatile colour scheme that is more suited to portraits or very nature centric visuals (with more neutrals, greens, browns, blue-greens) , whereas with the Polychromos there’s a more versatile colour range that enables you to do that but also space themed and a bit more fantastical visuals (with a more balanced amount of pencils per colour, including more pinks and purples and also great blues).

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  2 года назад

      @@Carolina-rd3gh Have you checked out the Derwent Lightfast range of pencils? There are some interesting purples in that set. Somewhere in my video collection is one swatching out all of the Luminance and Lightfast together as a set of 200 - the colours are all different so it makes for a pretty huge set, haha!
