- in todays video we will be taking a look at the Caran D' Ache Luminance Colored Pencils !!!! Unboxing, swatches and First Impressions! We will take a look at the texture , the colors , the smoothness and the overall quality of these colored pencils . as well as compare them to other brands. in this video i will compare them side by side with the derwent lightfast pencils , faber castell polychromos , derwent coloursoft and prismacolor . i will also compare the color selections . i will also test these pencils out with my favorite mediums such as the brush and pencil powder blender , solvents and the colorless blender the set comes with . In this video i will show the 76 set as well as the 24 portrait set of luminance plus 2 open stock. I currently have 98 of the 100 colors available by Caran d' ache. this is just a first impression and unboxing NOT a full review but i wanted to share my colored pencil art haul with all of you / enjoy !

I use all 3 or rather I don't like the Luminance it's so hard to get a reasonble solid color layer with them I rarely use them. I do love their colors , but here's where it ends for me.. I tested the polychromo's for almost 4 months and they all passed the test beside a pink color which faded a lot.
I love Holbein the most, love, LOVE their colors and the way they draw. Derwent Lightfast is ok and have more natural colors then the Polychromo's
The Polychromo's come in 2nd, some colors are scratchy but love their vibrancy but maybe sometimes too vibrant that it's somewhat unnatural. they work well with the work I'm producing!

Great video, love your energy, thank you for the review. I just purchased the Derwent lightfast and haven’t even opened it up as yet. I think I’ll just buy the luminance portrait and not the luminance set. I purchase a lot of my high end pencils on eBay marketplace, mostly brand new and unopened, I don’t have to fret over the price. I’m a big fan of all things Derwent.

I have the sets also. Just swatching so far, and love them. I’m new to colored pencils so I’m a beginner. I am interested in how you display all your pencils whether you use containers or leave in the boxes. I also have the polychromos and the Caran d’Ache aquarelle set! I hate to hide them. Thanks so much. Most of my colored pencils I keep in a clear plastic pencil caddy up on my desk ( it also rotates like a lazy Susan) . If I can see it , I'm more likely to use it . For me personally I very rarely keep my pencils in the original tin or packaging that they came in. Yes the tins or beautiful wood boxes are nice but they tend to be very inconvenient. I hate having to dig through storage trays and organizers to find just the right pencil that I'm looking for. Plus if it's put away it's out of sight , out of mind. I just find it so much more convenient and inspiring to be able to see all my colored pencils organized on my desk . Although I will say the trays for these luminance pencils are so light because of the foam and everything is package so sturdy that I probably will end up keeping these pencils in their original box ( atleast for now ). 🙂☺️

@@robinsamuelson3626 I got mine at tjmaxx but don't worry If you can't find my exact one . It's certainly possible to find similar items online or in stationary sections. I'll do a short showing mine and giving suggestions on what to look for as well as different options for storage like cabinets and pencil cases.

How would you perform at-home-lightfast-test? I live in tropical region, and probably the extreme end of "museum condition" requirement. So far I just trust the manufacturer, but it would be useful to see actual result in our current environment instead of lab test rite?
All the details of my lightfast testing is here in this video 😊 if your interested , I'd not trust the manufacturer in every case. Sadly some have been caught lying.

Don’t listen to the rumours about Polychromos and lightfastness. People start rumours without substantial evidence or any evidence at all……and so the rumour mills begin to turn.
Thanks for that. I'm scared now about it so I am doing my own lightfast testing. So far they seem to be holding up well and I'm about 6 months into testing. I love the polychomos, they are my favorite pencils and you can build such depth and realism with them
