  • Welcome to my channel! I'm Shika, a passionate mental health advocate and a trained mental health professional specializing in Occupational Therapy (OT). Join me on this journey as I dive into the realm of mental health, sharing both my personal experiences as a mental health care user and the unique perspective of being a mental health care professional.
In today's video, I'm opening up about a deeply personal chapter of my life - my journey within a mental health care facility in South Africa. As a young South African woman, I found myself grappling with serious mental health concerns that led to my admission to this facility. I want to take you through every aspect of this experience, shedding light on the challenges and triumphs that I faced during this time. From the environment to the interactions with fellow individuals facing their own battles, I leave no detail unexplored.
Let me emphasize that I am not a medical doctor, and the information I share in this video is not a substitute for professional medical advice. My intention is solely to share my personal journey and contribute to breaking down the stigma that surrounds mental health. By raising awareness and fostering open conversations, we can create a more compassionate and understanding society.
If you or someone you know is currently struggling with their mental health, it's important to reach out for help. Remember, you are not alone on this journey. If you're in South Africa, you can contact the SADAG Suicide Helpline at 0800 567 567. Trained professionals are available to provide support, guidance, and a listening ear during difficult times.
Prioritizing your mental well-being is crucial, and seeking help is a sign of strength. Don't hesitate to reach out and take the first step towards healing. Remember, there is hope, and there are people who care and want to support you.
Thank you for being a part of this community and joining me on this mission. Thank you so much for sharing this vulnerable part of your life friend. I loved the part of the 19 days admission versus 19 doctsor's visits...Being committed to healing and choosing yourself really requires you to be an active participant in how your story ends. Looking forward to more videos!!!!!😍🤗🤗🤗

Proud of your courage... not just to share, and to enter the YT world (which... by the way, congratulations on your 1st post🎊 ) or to stand up and speak for mental health, but mostly for the courage it takes to get up every day and face the diagnosis and life as a whole. May God continue to see you through it Shiks, and I know you're going to continue shining brighter and brighter to be that "sunshine ☀" for others that need it... through OT, through your story/personal testament and just by you keeping on! 🌻

Amazing video, Shika! KFC is my fighter too 😂❤️ Thank you for sharing your experience. What you said about 19 days of admission versus 19 appointments as an outpatient really puts things into perspective on how significant the impact of admission can be. Lovely 🌸🌸

Thank you so much for sharing, you have motivated me on so many levels. I have recently been diagnosed with MDD & GAD I also have FND. I am being admitted soon but its government i am a bit concerned because i have no idea what to expect and how i am going to deal. I am fully committed to healing and I want to but i am not sure how government will be. I am going Groote Schuur Hosp. If anyone has experience please can you advise me. Hi, there. I was at Vista Clinic in Centurion. It costs about R60000 and my Gems medical aid covered it. Hospital plans also cover it.
