Thunderbolt front seat on-ride 4K POV Kennywood

- With a drop straight out of the station and terrific interaction with Phantom's Revenge, this is a classic wooden coaster unlike any other. Did you know that Thunderbolt opened in 1968 as a major expansion of the Pippin coaster built in 1924?
Kennywood is located near Pittsburgh in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania.

“I wanna do that again,”
“This is turning out to be the best birthday so far!”
Wholesome 100
thats me lol
thats what I said yesterday when I went on!
Looked up this coaster because I seen an old photo of it and its layout looked unique. Not only am I interested in the coaster, but we also got a really wholesome video of someones birthday and their first roller coaster ride. I'm so happy rn. I'm so glad they enjoyed themselves lol
It has been a while since I have been to kennywood. We went today on our class field trip, and I was just astonished. These videos DO NOT give the rides the reputation they deserve. It is so much more than this.
Nicholas Aldrich i went on every ride here all of them are light work try cedar point
lanethebeast 1234 not specifically outing you but, I hate it when people say this. I NEVER said it was better than cedar point I would be stupid to say it was.
@@nicholasaldrich8419 cedar point is wat newer kennywood is hands down the best oldest park
lanethebeast 1234 No Cedar Point coaster has a unique and rare track layout design like this one and not nearly as much history as Kennywood, Thunderbolt has NAD Century Flyer Trains in mint condition STILL in operation only 5 others of its kind left remaining in use in the world. Try that!
lanethebeast 1234 Cedar Point, hmmm, never heard of it
It's amazing how this old woodie dives right out of the station and saves its biggest drop for last.
One of the best examples of building around the terrain I've ever been on. Incorporating the Phantom is another example of using what you have.
This is my absolute favorite wooden coaster of all time. This video doesn’t even capture how fast this thing literally goes, even down the smaller hills you’re flying. Sitting in the back seat of this ride is the most terrifying but thrilling experience, you get sooooo much air time!
It's the best at night when it's going fast into a deep dark pit right out of the station, I love it!
Book of lists had it as the worlds greatest coaster back in the 70s.
I know, the hills are so much steeper than they look on camera
Riding this at night is the best
Ikr
“The coasters seem to go faster at night”
Haven't tried that yet
Hopefully the park is open again at night someday.
It's a bummer this year. I really miss riding these in the dark!
More true words could not be said
The pterodactyl scream at minute 1:40 lol
lmaooo
HEAVY METAL Voices I
My ex made that same sound when she ran after me with a knife!
I loved this coaster back in the 70's and it's still going strong.
It used to be called the Pippin' if you didn't already know.
Cornell Stephenson getting rough thou
Question though, do they repair these wooden roller coasters when it's being deteriorated over the decades?
@@Darkless4X Yep, although sometimes they look a little rough. Lol.
They have probably replaced all of the wood more than once I would think.
The Racers was completely rebuilt twice I belive. They changed it the first time several decades ago, and then rebuilt it again like the original at one point. Now it just gets maintenance.
I went to that park .. since I was 7 .. it is old as dirt and still going!! Over 100 years old!
Rode this 4 times today. Park was empty due to Covid but it was awesome to ride the rides over and over. Some of the coasters we got all to ourselves.
Wow 😎
Back when we were kids we would stay late all the time. Around the end of the day you can just circle around and ride over and over. Good times
Awwww the conversation at the end was just so cute!! 😊
The lateral G's on the helix are legendary. I've been squashed many times as the larger rider lol
Aww someone had a birthday.
"Your fine, relax" *literally hyperventilating*
That would be me
“it’s your birthday honey”
“yeeeee”
Quite the unique layout. Two good drops before the chain lift shows up, and as you said great interaction with Phantoms Revenge. It's also a great way to see just how big Phantom's second drop is!
I'm also glad the person behind you had such a great birthday.
T-bolt is running super smooth this year!
This is one of my favorite roller coasters
Best ride there, when it was almost closing time. We was the last bit then after that they let us ride like 5 more time lmao, best workers there
Dude facts kennywood workers are really chill about that. Once got to ride the Steel Phantom like three times in a row
@@seanm660 same sameee, hopefully we're having fright night this year
Man, Thunderbolt is a classic but what a rough ride! I'm so glad they're doing a retracking
Aww. Happee Burfdae to the newest member of the coaster community!
these vids make me feel so much better about going on them
anyone else pretending to be at kennywood during quarantine
Absolutely! About the only thing I can think of...
Let's all meet up when this is over... smoke a fat doobie.. and go on all the coasters lol.
Imposter is among us!?!
Aww that kids audio is so cute
One of hte most brilliant pieces of terrain following I've ever seen; the double drops into the valley are incredible.
I love the coaching going on in the background and the end result “I wanna do that again 🤪”
This is one of my favorite rides!
Such a classic right here in my city!!🎢
Am I the only one who feels safer on wooden coasters?😂
Kylah G. Yes
yes
No
Yes I ment
No.
Such a fun classic! The first part of it is slow and then it really halls after that lift hill!
Was at Kennywood last night. This ride was down to have some track re-done. Maybe next year it will be a little less rough? Still a good ride and its deceptive when I rode it for the first time I was really impressed with how high it was. Didn’t seem it was from the ground but that hill where you go up and then around before dropping is pretty high.
what a cool layout
The only coaster with the IMMEDIATE drop wow loved this thing one of the most original tracks ive been on the new age ride critics are morons this is what a coaster is imo
There's Time Traveler. Thunderbolt came a long time before, but Time Traveler starts with a drop.
@@Stephenp503 so it copied the Thunderbolt then ....
and I meant the entire ride is original not just a drop
There's Mystery Mine at Dollywood and Red Demon/Cliffhanger at Ghost Town in the Sky that both feature drops right out of the station, though only the former ride is still operational today.
2:00 raging rapids is pop'in
Is that woman teaching girls to scream? Can we sue her?
Remco Slotboom I second that
Screaming helps it not hurt as much-
Sinister yeah but she doesn’t have to scream like she’s being murdered, it’s so annoying
Legend has it the coaster is faster if you ride it at night
Because they grease it with potatoe patch oil.
@@mattsteffey9959 - LMAO !
Actually true, coasters warm up over time so at night they’re fully warmed up and faster
I’m going today just looking at some of the rides since I never rode any of the roller coasters
screw the haters this rides immediate drop and rough ride is apart of what makes it great its meant to scare the shit outta you lol
Rough?IT ISNT ROUGH EVEN A LITTLE BIT
@@M1dn1ghtclub yeah it is what ride you talking about been a Pittsburgh native for 40 years
@@phootphetishphilip5551 It is not rough
@@phootphetishphilip5551 it's from the 20's so not 40 years
@@M1dn1ghtclub moron im 40
I recently went here with my dad and my uncle. My uncle was tired so my and my dad went on this ride, and it freaking crazy. There were like 6 drops which you probably already know because this is a recording of it.
This one is my favorite
My favorite ride
Still a classic.
I rode the Pippin back in the day. 🎢
I hope they had the best birthday
There used to be no (or very minimal) brakes in the tunnel before it dips under the Phantom and it was a much better (though slightly more violent) ride!
Greatest coaster in the world
happy ALMOST 100K
I’ve been on this with my Cusin it’s fast as hell especially on the last hill but very fun
This Is Amazing
wtf, was that women giving birth on this or something
Sam Barnes just GP
Sam Barnes lmao
Right 😂
Sam Barnes you can actually here their conversation on the ride. Apparently this person doesn’t ride roller coaster often and used to not like them so that’s probably why
AAAAAHHHHHKELLYCLARKSTON!!!
I would love to see those girls that were scared ride the phantom
Just rode it today let me tell you if you thinking of riding it DO IT!!!! It is amazing and I mean it you will love it for me the line took forever which was the only down side but it was for sure worth the wait.
Shy Little Bear 21 my mom is going to make me ride it and I’ve never ridden it before
Just a random person don’t worry you will love it 😁
“How terrain-based do you want this coaster to be?”
“Yes.”
The topography in that park is amazing. Jack Rabbit is the same.
@@andyknight1 It has to be. Kennywood sits on and next to a bunch of really weird zoning ordinances, so all of their bigger rides have to be built in a specific way. That's why they built the Steel Curtain up and over a section of the park instead of literally any other way.
It's the best birthday ever!
im listen to the CONVO IN THE BACK
KID: I WANNNA GO AGAIN
MOM :WELL IT IS UR BDAY
KID :YAY
kid : this is the bday so far
ME JUST CRACKING UP AND SAYIN HAPPY BDAY STILL CRACKIN UP
its funny because that literally me 4 years ago lol
the conversation in the background is so god damn cute!
I love the thunderbolt
Riding at night is the best
Me and my cousin rode this so many times today
Perfecto!!!
thats me talking in the background saying its my birthday and it was the best birthday (and im a boy my voice was just so bad
The bumpiness on this ride is horrible but 10/10 will ride again
Miranda Ann it needs a retracking. If the retracking doesn’t go well, maybe in 10-20 years RMC this thing. It might not be the biggest or wildest but it still be fun
*50TH anniversary today*
This coaster literally gives you whiplash and a concussion all in the same ride. Trust me, It's fun but so rough
Imazombie1 not really
idk about all that but my brother broke my dads ribs on this def make sure the smaller rider enters first
not that bad. ever ride wildcat at HP?
Can anybody name me a combo where 2 coasters intertwine like TBolt and Phantom with such a beautiful backdrop and use of the land?
I was there on a day where the ride operator for the thunderbolt was timing it so that the Phantom went down its second drop while the Thunderbolt went down its second to last drop. The operator kept hitting the timing perfectly. It was magical.
wholesome chatter in the bkg
this is fast as hell at night
We rode The Very last run on may 11 2026 for thunderbolt at Kennywood
so cool
I love this ride so much😜😜😜😜😜😜😝😝😝😝😝
Definitely looks fun but the tracks are very rough.
Man when you are in the front you break your spine
Ride that like 15 times
The best seat is in the back.
Idk if anyone can tell but when u hit that bend it looks so slow on video but is actually sp scary and feels like ur about to falk out
1:12 AAAAAHHH WHOS TORTURING THAT PIIIGG??!?!
Kennywood My last ride on thunderbolt 1968-2026
Say Goodbye to thunderbolt
My chiropractor always asks me if I rode this before visiting him, Lol.
I used to hate roller coasters but my stomach stops dropping by the middle or 4th way through the drop. I don’t even scream on the thunderbolt. I wanna go on the phantom so bad but last time it’s like was…. Loooooong
My online friend said she went on this before
Happy birthday background girl
This coaster is now important because time traveler
I heard you have to ride with someone or else they don’t let you on. I get that, that’s for safety but what if you are on a trip by yourself what do you do?
David Baines You wait until another single rider comes along.
I think the kid had a good bday
Pika?
Is that rykel

This doesn’t look like 55 mph
The fastest moment is at the bottom of the final drop.
oh its faster than it looks and its a scary ride love it
ThunderBolt is getting rough now. It’s not the laterals. They need to retrack it and add banking or RMC it. I had a bumpy ride the whole time. I liked the parts where you slam into the other rider but still it needs a retrack or RMC
Hi I Bob it was retracted over this past winter... so it should be much smoother now..
I went on this it's a WHOLE HEADACHE AFTER
It got too rough in 2 years
Oh woman thunder bolt look raggedy as Heck but fun
The video does no justice for this coaster. The speed and drops need to be experienced in person. Also highly recommend riding at night.
looks neglected. they need to show this ol school classic some love with a little re track and a paint job. js
shawn wprley It's not neglected, it's probably the best wooden coaster at the park, you should see the light show at night
They just retracted it this past winter... but they do take very good care of all of their rides..
Love roller coasters but don't think I'll ever ride this. I mean, there's a reason you have to ride with a partner. Not a fan of rough rides that give you whiplash afterwards.
WTF, does this thing have square wheels?
i like the roughness what people hate about this ride i love
built in 1924 fixed in 1968 what do you expect
@@phootphetishphilip5551 It was actually re-tracked in 2001 when they re-did Phantom
@@angryfrigginliberalinpenns1314 then why ask lol its meant to be bumpy thats what makes it great coaster fams are babies now
@@angryfrigginliberalinpenns1314 with 9/11 remains i guess lol but makes the thunderbolt great is what everyone bitches about it throws your ass around and scares yah
Went to this park for the first time with my husband last year. I wanted to ride this but for some reason don't allow "single riders" on this ride! (My husband has back problems). It had rained that morning and the place was EMPTY. Still wouldn't let me ride. Very disappointing.
its for your saftey. This ride is extremely rough. Sometimes if you just get in line and sit down they see you are a single they ask who wants to ride twice.
TPR mounts their cameras way better, just sayin
Screamers are very annoying
Is that what your stepdad told you?
That woman screaming sounded like a pig getting slaughtered
Let's talk during this amazing ride! Der...stupid
Even though it's their birthday their scream is annyoing
