Big fan of the two upper thought process.
Mk18 & Mk 12
11.5” & Mk 12
12.5” & Mk 12
13.7/9” & Mk 12
14.5” & Mk 12
16” and Mk 12
Mk 12 & Mk 12
20” and Mk 12
You really can’t go wrong with any of these combos.
Big fan of the mk12 and mk12 upper combo. I like how I can swap my mk12 upper out for a mk12
I went Mod-H and urgi. 11.5.
14.5" bcm mid length for fighting.
18" woa rifle for fun.
Mk12 cult for the win.
Same. I have a couple uppers of differing barrel length and optics that I’ll throw on the same lower depending on situation but my bastardized version of a MK 12 remains the same.
Anyone else a little annoyed how much Roy interrupts Eric mid thought? Idk. Great video though.
Dude 100%
Rude dude.
Mhmm
Yup!
I came to the comments to say the same thing. I would lose my train of thought being interrupted that much! Kudos to Eric for being able to get back on topic
Can't wait to get out and train with my 7.5 inch 5.56 with a cookie cutter brake and a 5-35X55 scope.

I'm hoping this is sarcasm.
Former US Army Ranger and spec ops combat medic here. (I also have a medical degree and worked quite a few years in critical care) I've actually been shot through the thigh with an AK. I bled out half my blood volume in under a minute. You've got about 2 Liters of blood per 60 lbs of body weight. I weighed about 180 lbs at the time and the EBL or Estimated Blood Loss was 2-3 liters. Tourniquet was applied roughly 45 seconds after i was shot. I couldn't put my own tourniquet on despite having it right there in my leg bag/IFAK because i was also shot through my R wrist and when i went to unzip the leg bag/IFAK, my R wrist just flopped around and didn't work for me.
I say all that to say this... if you dick around putting a tourniquet on someone like the end of this video shows, you may very well see them bleed out and die. Have a big ass loop set up in your tourniquet before hand and put it around the foot and move it quick as you can up the leg until you're a good 4-6" above the highest point of the wound and tighten that thing down til the bleeding stops and then some. Gen7 should be strong enough that you can really crank them down without having to worry about the polymer twist stick breaking. The tourniquet is going to hurt like a son of a bitch regardless. Like we always say in the SOF medic world, "PAIN, is the patients problem". IF you take the whole damn thing apart and fool around like that trying to put it back together you WILL lose precious seconds and perhaps a life.
YOU'RE WELCOME
Also... all this talk about 12.5 and 13.7" AR15's in 5.56 being your "all around"/"go to" set ups... sounds like insanity. I'd never go shorter than 14.5 or honestly, 16". In fact, i'd probably prefer 18". 16" middy in a CHF Chrome lined kind of upper is probably the best all around. 77 grain OTM's if you can afford them. 8x optic minimum with Christmas tree reticle and offset dot and or irons. You want to have the capability to hit targets at 800 yards MINIMUM IMHO. Always carry an extra bolt and firing pin in the grip and a small tube of CLP. I like any good 2 stage trigger and some good single stage triggers. The CMC flat 2 stage 2lb/2lb is a really nice, fast, good for close up and DMR work trigger. There are a lot of good options out there. Even the ALG ACT will get the job done... including at 750 yards etc.
Maximize LETHALITY. Maximize CAPABILITY. You really don't know WHERE you'll end up in a crisis situation or where your enemy will attack you from. If you're pinned down and don't have the range to effectively return fire.. you're screwed. Don't screw yourself. Don't be ignorant. Don't be arrogant with your little trendy 12.5 AR's. Wake yourselves up and THINK.
I was in 71st Cav, 10th mountain. Im sure our experiences differ quite a bit when it comes to being in combat. But my experiences make me think the opposite. In the military, you retreat when the order is given. Now as a civilian i cant think of any situation, whether its invading militaries or martial law, where i would need to lay down effective fire at 800 yards. Even at 300 yards. If they are that far, as a civilian, im gonna run. But i live in the hills of Texas, if i lived in an urban environment that could make retreat more difficult.
16" has been a nice all around package for me, even though it is tempting to have a short range specific completed upper in my pack if needed. thank you for your service.
@@matthewbarrett5445 If you choose something bigger than 5.56, you may be able to go shorter. Also, it does depend somewhat on where you live. If you live in a place like the guy above where it's rolling hills or you're surrounded by forest, do what you think is best. The MOST important thing is to KNOW what your systems capabilities are. THEN you can make an educated decision on what's best for you.
I live in UTAH. I'm surrounded by wide open expanses and mountain ranges. 800 yds is nothing for me. I hit milk jugs at 1,000 plus with 5.56 and Soda cans at 750 yds.
Think outside the box though. What if you lived in a forest type area... trees everywhere.. .but you had to move out and cross a valley ? How's that 12.5" with 55 grains working for you now when you start taking fire and get pinned down? Not only that but what kind of ballistics/lethality are you getting at 500 yards with that set up? You may hit a guy and he lives because your small 5.56 at 500 yards out of a 12.5" set up isn't moving very fast. Does it even penetrate soft armor at 4-500 yds ? It's moving slower, which will effect lethality to some degree BUT ALSO, it will be much more effected by the WIND while moving slower. All things to think about.
In all honestly, 12.5" with a dot and magnifier or Eotech with magnifier may be all you need. Just KNOW that... don't guess.
@@LswKid Agreed, aside from some very specific situations, I am never going to voluntarily fire on any level of enemy force past 500 yards. It's just so much smarter to avoid the conflict, especially as an individual or small group. This isn't a video game.
Bro, thank you! Marine vet here, and Army medics and Navy Corpsmen are super heroes to many of us! Your information is soooooo valuable. Thank you for your service as well bud! EDIT, also, I have to agree on the shorter barrel lengths people continue to promote. I don't hate on people who run shorter than 14.5. I have one, and a few 16s. I also prefer the 18" and honestly miss my older Marine Corps 20" M16A2. But hey, you know why the private market are all for the shorties is because of SOCOM and the fact that now at least in the Marine Corps infantry, the standard issue rifle for grunts is an M4, which is 14.5". I was a PMI (weapons instructor) and I was out before the Marine Corps went to M4s as standard for much of the Corps. But like you said, we shot our qualifications with iron sights long before ACOGs were standard issue out to 500 yards for annual rifle qualifications. It's insane to me. I respect B&H, but I don't subscribe to the short barrel mentality as the sole gun, especially a 12.5" blows my mind. Marines and Army did room clearing with long 20 to 24 inch rifles if you take the M16 and the M14s into account.
I've just assembled a 12.5" upper in 6mm ARC. I have a Nightforce ATACR LPVO, an Aimpoint ACRO on a Badger Ordnance mount, an OSS (HUX WRX) 30 cal can, a Radian Mod 1 build kit, Geissele SSA-EX Lightning Bow trigger, a Mos-Tek custom 12.5" bull barrel in 6ARC, an ATPIAL laser, a Surefire weapon light, a Sharps Rifle Company BCG, a JP Enterprises captured spring system, and Magpul furniture. She's a little heavy, but well balanced. This thing rocks. This has quickly become my all around SHTF rig.
BCM KD4 upper with 3 prong flash hider, Vortex Razor 1-6, Lunar Concepts Baseline 2 point sling, Surefire Scout light, and Harris bipod. That K.I.S.S. setup worked for me during a AMTAC and Defoor course out to 600+ yards and a couple of hunting trips.
Most basic but my favorite is a BCM upper with an Aero lower and geissele trigger. Bang for your buck and gets the job done well
Put a LaRue trigger instead and than you’ll really be gettin a good bang
The 11.5 to 16 BCM is about the standered IMO ..sold mine but they just run
@@RyanLovesReds gonna check them out!
The r/ar15 special
I used to have BCM upper on aero lower and didn't like it. Mostly the upper, didn't have that many issues with the Aero lower
I run a BCM rifle with a 14.5 pinned and welded with a Surefire Warcomp, Socom MINI can, cloud defense rein light and EOtech exps2 optic.
Throw on a good sling (bfg vickers, ferro slingster, WPS sling) and you’re good to go, son. Oh, and some spray paint 😅
I use LMT lowers and custom built 14.5 upper. By switching from Eotech to aimpont and from a B5 to a magpul stock I shed a half pound
Why lmt ? I love their stuff just curious
@@jayblemsin4226 I feel as though they offer one of the better ambi lowers on the market

11.5 aero upper with Primary Arms SLx 1X MicroPrism™ Scope - Red Illuminated ACSS Cyclops Reticle - Gen II gr. And SLX 3x magnifier
@ryanperkins22 yes. As a lefty I like ambi lowers. I have a rainier sbr and Cross machine and tool ambi lowers.
I was actually shocked, i did a BCM 14.5 medium weight fluted barrel. And its INCREDIBLY well balanced like you guys said. It feels about the same as my 11.5 gov profile as far as manuevering aside from length.
They are similar in maneuverability. Difference is when you run a suppressor. They are vastly different when a 6-7” suppressor is hanging off the end.
I just complete my first buil. Aero precision 14.5, rise armament trigger, aero pro BCG, lvpo 1-6 with backup iron sights.
"13.7-13.9 is my long gun" lol 😂. To me 16 inches to me is my short gun i just refuse to compromise on lethality and a 20 inch upper is my long gun.
After running a 20 inch a 16 feels like a pistol 😂 but I’m with ya
After running a 20 inch a 16 feels like a pistol 😂 but I’m with ya
Even though this is about AR uppers, a bullpup let's one have a long barrel in a smaller form factor. There are trade offs in weight, trigger and manual of arms though.
I’m a old Ranger but I love your content…I’m in Texas I can’t come out but, Great Work!!!! Tri-Arc System’s 13.9 👍
Been shooting a 13.7 with an ACOG, a top dot, and my sandman S for some time now, definitely my favorite do it all set up.
11.5 BCM MCMR & a 14.5 Daniel Defense RIS 2…those have been my go to rifles for the last 4 years🔨
Cant go wrong.
These new vids are great. Just what we need! Thank
My go to will always be an 18" upper. Whether it's cold hammer forged or stainless, what type of optic I'm using, and what kind of additions I have on it may vary. But I'm always going to go with an 18" upper and a Wilson Combat low mass bcg. Softer shooting, more velocity, and a bit quieter are more important factors to me than portability. People act like a corner can't be pied with anything over a 16" barrel. Some believe 16" is too long.

20in are great. I have one set up as an "overwatch" gun with a 2-10 and a thermal clip on and Rein 3.0 light.
For setting up in a fighting position up on the hill overlooking the family property. Sight lines out to 600+ yds overlooking the 2 roads and the fields surrounding our plot.

Custom 11.5 SBR (mostly BCM & Geissele parts, but a triarc barrel). VLTOR A5H3, T2 & G33 on Unity mounts, Modlite OKW, Surefire RC2. Serves me well both personally & professionally
Like you two, I also live in Florida and am used to the environment. In my personal experience, my suppressed BCM 11.5 is the "grab and go" option for me. It does what I need it to do in the ranges that are realistic for me to be shooting to. Are there things that it isn't really suited towards? Yes, absolutely. But, it is the rifle that I feel most confident with. These are always fun videos & discussions, and I have watched you two for a while now. I am now subscribed and plan on taking the short drive to visit you guys some day soon. Keep up the great content.
18” 308, 16” DD, 11.5” DD and 9” 300 BO . Getting Huxwrk 7.62 Ti soon hopefully! Cheers to content guys!❤
It's unfortunate that DD took the stance they did. Good thing there are other companies worth buying from.

I love my self-tuned AR15. I have a BA 12.3 mid-length with tubbs flatwire and H3 buffer. It cycles everything I feed it, 55-77grn whether supressed or not. #ThisIsTheWay
As a southpaw myself, I'd like to see some of how you set up your rifles and kit as a lefty.
Always curious to see new ideas!
BCM KD4 upper with 7.7 twist is my friend's choice. As for me, I like LWRCi with the spiral fluted barrels and short stroke system.
White light, IR laser/illum, AND a dedicated IR light is overkill imo. A few things I've found that helped is going to a vampire IR/white WML, changing from standard size muzzle device to a kurz version, running a kurz kit (YHM) on the can itself, and changing barrel profile. This isn't something I see brought up a lot, but going from the typical gov't profile front-heavy barrel to something like a Criterion Core which is tapered profile can really help the weight distribution and feels lighter even if it's technically same weight.
I am really liking my 14.5 w/ RC2 and a "best"PVO. It really gets the job done. I need to replace the barrel on my 10.5, to get the short upper back on line, but for a one rifle to do it all, a well gassed, suppressed 14.5 is really nice.
I love coming back and rewatching these. So much info that gets missed on the first watch. Currently, building out my 13.7 GPR. Next on the list is to build out a .300BLK (possibly with night vision capability) upper to swap it around with.
When it comes to brands I really wouldn’t know what the best would be but I do prefer using Bravo Companies products more than most when it comes to building an AR that fits your needs. I only use one lower with an A2 fixed stock and for uppers I have two for different reasoning. A Dissipator upper for closer range’s and quick shots for urban and slightly woodland areas and a SPR upper with a scope and bipod for longer to medium range’s in RECCE use
Type-A, ADMmfg and Aeroprecision are great platforms for builds.
@@derek3154 ADM is a much higher quality than Aero, reflected in their prices.
@@JustAverageJeff not as much as you’d think. Their handguards are Rosco which is slightly less quality than Aero, but the lower and upper is Defo better quality for sure also Ambi.

I put together a Gordon Carbine upper receiver. I did something different I used the PRI carbine length handguard to free float the barrel. My barrel is a Noveske 12.5" CHF chrome lined. I'm really liking the 12.5" length to do everything with. I'm able to hit steel silhouette targets at 400 yds effectively. My out the door upper is my 12.5" with my 1-6 lpvo on it and with my suppressor.
I put my own upper receivers together. I use ZEV uppers, Noveske BCG's, and Noveske barrel's with head spaced bolt's. To include my AR-10's.
Noveske has a reasonable price for their 7.62x51 bcg but their barrels and lowers are expensive.
Have you had any issues with Noveske barrels being way over gassed? I have a Noveske 16" chf barrel, I run H2 buffer with Sprinco blue and it still spits brass at 2 o' clock. My Colt barrel had same buffer and spring and ejected at 3:30 all day long. Just purchased Sprinco red spring but haven't had a chance to get to the range.
@@SlickSlack4pac I think the White sprinco spring might work best with that specific configuration.
@@makevelicustoms white Sprinco is standard, I bought the red its just a matter of trying it out. Thanks for the input 👍
@@SlickSlack4pacI don’t have a Noveske barrel for reference but I did have a 16” Faxon barrel that was shooting brass at 1 o’clock with an Omega300 can. Just adding a Geissele Super42 spring with their H2 buffer made the brass eject to 3 o’clock. Hope that helps ya!
I have three 16" uppers right now.
Two Radical Firearms RF-15 uppers. One chambered in .223Rem/5.56 NATO with a full length M-LOK handguard, an NcSTAR 1x25 red dot, polymer hop up angled iron sights, a UTG vertical grip, a toughsoul rechargeable flashlight, a QD mount for my sling, and a UUQ red laser sight.
The second upper is chambered in .300 Blackout with a 5-6 inch NcSTAR quad rail handguard, aluminum angled iron sights, A 4-12x50 UUQ rifle scope, and a Magpul MOE RVG vertical grip. No lights or lasers mounted on it.
Then lastly is a Bushmaster MOD.XM15-E2S chambered in .223Rem/5.56 NATO sporting a 5-6 inch polymer Magpul handguard with 3 M-LOK points, a UUQ red dot sight, another Toughsoul rechargeable flashlight, as well as another UTG vertical grip. No laser or angled irons on it.
All three uppers of course have an A2 flash hider, as well as your basic bolt carrier groups, charging handles, and forward assist devices. No fancy shit here... yet.
With my 12.5- and 14.5-inch guns, I am running Frankin builds using SOLGW uppers and lowers with Hodge rails, barrels and BCG's. Been extremely happy with overall shootability, accuracy, durability and fitment. I also run an 18-inch upper that's assembled using a 18" (Criterion) Compass Engineering Barrel with a SOLGW upper and a 16.75 Zev Wedge Lock rail.
As far as optics, I run a Aimpoint Comp M5 with an Aimpoint 6X Magnifier on Unity mounts. The 6x allows you to see better, but it is also longer so it helps with the eye relief. I know its heaver, but because of this the juice is worth the squeeze. The 12.5 has a MAWL and a Modlite for white light. On the 14.5 I run a 1x6 Razor with an ACRO mounted at the 12 o'clock. The 14.5 has a PEQ-15 and also uses a Modlite. The 18" upper has a 2x10 Credo and ACRO on an offset mount along with a Surefire Turbo light.
My newsiest addition is an upper assembled with a Rosco 13.9 Greenline Tactical barrel with a Ripcord 1.5 13.13 rail. Im really liking it and the Ripcord rail is a winner for sure. If I had to pick one it would be the 12.5. Thanks for sharing your rigs and methodology. Iron sharpens iron and I appreciate the work put into the channel for the viewers.
Awesome video. For me it’s a 12.5” as well. Mines a BCM. Currently waiting on my form 1 to get approved but it’s the best middle ground barrel length for me.

I did like my suppressed MK18 until I got the PWS MK111 MOD2 and I’m very happy with it. I do like how the MK18 is insanely smooth but the PWS with adjustable gas set up is a better set up for me. Great vids guys, you guys do a great job. I think a class in my future with you gents.

1-6 LPVO, offset enclosed emitter red dot in an Arisaka mount, Cloud Rein 3.0.
The thing is just bombproof. 1-1.5 MOA all day with basically any ammo. Tighter with good ammo.
My main "duty loads" are 77gr OTM, and 62gr Bonded Soft Points. (Federal TBBC and Speer Gold Dots.)

I would never pay full price for one, I was just lucky enough to score the complete upper for $740 on Black Friday a few years back, and my old lower already had an SSA-E, Maritime bolt catch and the Super 42/H2 so it just kind of worked out perfectly.
Sold my old upper for $700 an got the upgrade essentially for free. And couldn't be more happy with it
At first I just wanted a plain-jane, simple upper. I got one with some railing on top, but has a trapezoidal plastic fore end. Later, I wanted something I could put off set sights and a light on, so I got a quad rail upper. I got a third upper for fun. I actually call it my fun gun. Its a quad rail with anything and everything I can attach to it. Mostly rejects form my other upper. Looks incredibly cool, weighs as much as I do, but keeps me more entertained than saturday morning cartoons ever could. But still, the second upper is my go-to.
12.5 hodge defense with triarc wedge lock on DD SBR lower and Aimpoint comp 5 (add a turbo k when needed). 11.5 CQB full KAC with Raid XE, Sure turbo mini, sico omega, Aimpoint T2, 14.5 KAC w LMT lower, nx8 with Aimpoint T1 12 o’clock, Mawl, modlite and turbo K can.
How do you like the Raid XE? I just “bit the bullet” & bought a full kit NGAL but haven’t tried it out yet cause I just got it days ago.
My one go to, would be my ADM 12.5 on a Geissele lower. Unity riser with a 4T on top. Magnifier as well. Performs well.
Really liked this video, liked, subscribed, and commented. Lets go!
I started using some of the foxtrot Mike uppers that are fully self-contained can fire with stock folded. A HK style charging handle. The 102 model has locking charging handle takes traditional AK-47 magazines and does the HK SLAP CHARGING. After the initial couple hundred round break in. I started feeding it handloads from 35 Grain on up to 100 grain subsonic. 1000 rounds and big was only a little dirty. It does not need a traditional AR buffer tube and spring and makes a perfect truck or back pack gun. I have one in a 19in backpack. Many folding stock options to shed weight. Strike Industries offer folding stock that folds to either side and locked. Also is one second quick detach and attach. I also like that Foxtrot Mike came out with there own folding stock that's tough enough breach doors or a old school upper but stroke to the chin. You can literally stand on it across 2x4s and holds solid. But folds easy when you want. They even have a AR HK AK hybrid. Once I got used to it it's so much easier and faster to operate than a AR. With a bad lever your strong hand keeps gun and eyes on target while clearing a jam.
BCM QRF 16" with my EXPS3 and G30 flip up magnifier would be my go to! Great content keep up the videos!
I like the 12.5 upper I put together. Running a Rosco k9 12.5 with their patrol length gas system. Did a triarc pinned gas block, kak 4 inch flash hider pin and weld, and a 11.5 inch midwest industries combat rail, BCM mod 3b charging handle, eotech xps2, streamlight protac light, and Midwest industries combat fixed sights. The BCG is a young manufacturing and the receiver is an Anderson I believe. Mainly just parts I slowly compiled and already had laying around and it’s a great shooter but she chonky for sure. My fav in the rifle game is my 13.9 SOLGW in my FCD upper with canted RMR and the new Leupold 1-5 with the Mod lite and YHM Turbo K suppressor on it. Crazy light weight and I can crush 800 yard shots with consistently. I strip the light off and run it in my run and gun events as well.
No you can't lol
- 13.9 Daniel Defense w/ Geissele mk16 handguard.
- 9” SOLGW .300 blk.
Great video
My go to is my 12.7" B&T APC223. I've got a qd 5x eotech and an MPS, peq15, and SF600.
My mind has changed over time as well mostly driven by ballistics and ammo options. Love my 10.5 but moving to a 12.5” piston on my LMT and building a 14.5” w criterion core barrel middy for a scoped gun. Mostly trees around here with cattle farms interspersed thus 100-400yard possible engagements. Also run a Huxwrx for fresh air. Enjoy your dialogue
You will love the 14.5" Core. I'm running the same barrel. Tapered barrel profile on it makes it feel good and handles like a much lighter/shorter gun. It's very well gassed too - with a huxwrx can I imagine you'll have almost no issues with gas. Just remember you will need a .675 gas block for the Core.
Baer standards and Bill drill are probably my 2 favorite. The Baer is a good way of quickly estimating overall skill level as it incorporates a reload. Hence the “standard” in the name.
Genesis Arms 'Gen 12' shotgun and 8.6 Blackout and .308 upper to swap on the fly.
Make my fuckn day.
My go to is my PWS 14.5 with my vortex 1 to 10 ffp lpvo on a Unity fast mount also with the holosun HS507C red dot on the 45. Also with a surfire vampire light
Love my 12.5!
Great video fellas
My overall 1 gun
13.7 midlength pencil barreled lightweight carbine.
Primary arms 5x prism scope with piggy backed Holosun eps.
Using the LWRC ultra compact stock and receiver extension, it get a very short, handy rifle that has good long range and short range capability that’s easy to maneuver.
With an adjustable gas block and YHM turbo K with kurz kit. A little longer than a mk 18 but better velocity, less wear on parts and longer range. I couldn’t be happier
"im a normal person!" hahaha 10\10 cast my dudes
I just ordered the new Daniel Defense WPSM4A1
Can’t wait to get it
I like that the multi dot eo tech got some love
8 in 300 blackout and a 13.7 5.56
3 uppers, mk18, mk12 and and any length 7.62x39 with all spare essential parts of course.
223/5.56, 300 blackout, 350 legend, 450 bushmaster, and 50 beowolf hanging on the wall
I have one rifle with a 12.5 rosco and I’m in love.
My do it all rifle is a Block II ish 14.5,
Eotech on unity, 3x magnifier, surefire light and IR laser.
WOW! “What light COVERS are you using - bungee lines”. Great light discipline control !!!
Nice that the uppers, rifles or pistols, can be shipped right to one's door without dealing with an FFL or the ATF forms.
11.5 SR15 upper on radian lower, eotech with mag (both on unity mounts) modlite, surefire rc2 waiting on new hux
Short gun is an 11.5 BCM running a BCM QRF, Streamlight, Eotech XPS3 with A5 buffer system. Long gun is a BCM 14.5 middy with 12" RIS 2, 1- 6 LPVO, MBUS Pro sights and a Streamlight.
first pick, my 13.5 lpvo, suppressed with a IR laser/ light. Second pick, a 16" with 2.5-10x44 scope. My go to, first pick is my 13.5. It has NV capabilities over the other rifle. Both work great and its a hard decision.
Whats up from palm beach county? Thanks for the videos and hard work!
I got my 14.5 BCM medium weight barrel fluted upper. Love it. My go too
Spr/dmr, seekins precision dmr upper with 20in criterion barrel, bcm flash hider comp thingy, b5 systems prescion stock, ssae trugger and atlas bipod. Topped with a vortex 3-18 stroke eagle mil reticle. Love ma musket 👌
I've got mostly 14.5s but my current favorite is an 18. I think the 13.something to 14.5 is a good "all around" fighting rifle. Shorter than that is a specialty case. I dig the 18 because that rifle length gas system is so reliable and controllable. I kind of wish I'd gone with the 20 though, since that barrel length just seems to do things that shorter barrels don't, especially in terms of terminal ballistics.
My 1:7 20” FN CHF Chrome barrel can put M855 into 3/4” at 100 and run pretty hard before it strings
@@basrutten641I can confirm similar results.
This is a long debated and discussed topic, as for myself and what I prefer; for my Short barrel would be a 12.5 with the Rosco Patrol barrel and gas system. Long barrel is a 16 mid length with the Faxon Gunner profile barrel. My 13.9 mid length (Ballistic Advantage Hanson profile) is right in-between the two; the 13.7/9 is the do all barrel length for most performance shooting application in my experience. 14.5 held that role for the longest time, but with the tech advancement of the 13.7/9 is has become that sweet spot length for rifles in terms of short maneuverability and extended distance applications (300-600 yards).
One that does it all, 14.5. 1-6 vortex razor gen 2, with rmr at 12 with a reptilla clamp on mt. I live in a place that has forests all the way to desert flats. Geissele mk16 rail (URG-I)
BCM 14.5 pinned with my rugged razor and plxc 1-8, with cloud defense owl.
16 inch Head Down upper on an Anderson lower with a PA 1-6 and tac light, 18 inch PSA 6.8 SPC upper on an Anderson lower, PA 4-14 on top with a Peq-15 on the rail.
14.5 is still the best overall fighter. I've just seen them handle so much. But if I'm only grabbing one it'll be my 12.5 with 1-6 sfp. With quad rail of course.
I shoot in a weekly 3 Gun league. Not tactical, but it is shooting. My rifle is a 16” pencil profile carbine gas from Rosco with pretty much all Aero parts besides that. Dead Air Nomad 30 can. I have the gas adjusted to be smooth as silk with M193, but it can be a touch sketch with pud loaded .223. Just an EOTech up top, making shots to 200 yards on reduced torsos.
We don’t have a JTAC ranch here in MI, but my home range, Blue Water Sportsman’s Association, does have a lot of good dudes that actually shoot comps and practice in their gear.
It is a bit of an issue with a pencil profile barrel if you really have to start slinging lead tho.
Kac 11.5 with T2 on Kac high rise and eotech 3x. Steiner cqbl and kiji. Cloud rein 1.0 short. Unity hit button on resessed laser.
Kac 13.9 custom, elcan 1/4, eotech ogl fp, cloud owl
The two I decided to go with, (what I actually have at the moment) an 18" and a 12.5"
I have a 14.5 and it's the one I have the most rounds on. So that's my go to. Runs with a Dot and 3x magnifier.
Since quality ARs are quite expensive in Europe, I went for one do-all rifle from the start. 12.5 piston with EXPS and 5x. 18" SPR would be my 2nd upper if I ever went for it.
18” 223 Wylde (Criterion Core) with an NX8 1-8 and a Vltor 10.5” 300 Blackout upper with an MRO and 3X magnifier both suppressed
The new RC3 is definitely where it's at for the MK18. Admittedly I still ran the hell out of it getting gassed with the RC2 because I just have a love for the platform. But was lucky enough to run both the RC3, the & the Huxwrx 556k. Over the past 2 days around 1k rounds, between 2 rifle uppers. 1st. being a CQBR block 2, & 2nd. a URGI upper "both clone correct"... While I have nothing bad to say about the Huxwrx, the RC3 was noticeably less gassy to the rear, and recoil impulse felt softer. I can definitely say the 60% reduction that SF claims is valid. There was a larger gas cloud at the muzzle, and in my face with the Huxwrx. But nothing like the RC2. Also with the Huxwrx you could see muzzle flash ever so slightly, but was definitely noticeable at night. With the RC3 flash was nonexistent. Also there wasn't a noticeable difference in weight while on the gun between either can. However off the gun, the Huxwrx is lighter. Honestly It could have went either way for the URGI, but the DD 14.5 mid is soft shooting, with hardly any noticeable gas anyway that neither can made a difference. However owning SF cans and mostly all muzzle devices being SF, I personally wouldn't make the change unless I just wanted to run something different. Either way you go, your not going to be making a bad decision. Even though the RC3 out preformed the Huxwrx on a short barrel, it is just my perception and opinion. Your experience, and feelings could be totally different based on rifle setup. Ammo used was BH MK262, IMI Razor Core 77gr & some M855A1. Accuracy was as to be expected with each round. And POA/POI shift were basically equal between the 2 also.
10.3 mk18 eotech with g33 and Unity & 16 in light weight build with Vortex razor 1-6 and offset DPP . Both suppressed
With the lack of the brace’s, there is no fricken way I’m going to send my information and register my firearm with the federal government. It’s bad enough they are going around to gun shops and getting the information from the shops. 14.5 13.9 is the only way.
Big fan of this
KAC sr15 upper (14.5 inch) on an LMT lower + geissele trigger is an unbeatable combination. I couldn't imagine running another AR.
Do you have a video or pictures of it
*adm lower
have you tried larue's MBT trigger? less pricy than the geissele triggers but damn good.
@@bama2579 not on youtube, but on discord and reddit I do.
@JG_1998 I imagine that's a nice set up
