I miss swinging like this, most Spiderman games make me feel like I am on rails on an amusement park ride. There is no room for error anymore. You can't even die from fall damage anymore!

Boy was this refreshing. Videos like this and your swords with sauce review from a few years ago is such a fun lens to look at games through in my eyes. Something so simple and maybe even flawed in most ways could open the door to a deep and enriching experience if you’re willing to look. Thank you for sharing this with us 🙏

Oh yeah they are two completely different kinds of games. It’s hard to remember a time when spider-man games weren’t free-roaming. There are a lot of other titles that are more linear that I never got around to playing, though.

Cool coverage of small title! Love to see the continuing story of your relationship with Spider Man games. I'm beginning to find that the Insomniac titles have their shortcomings and are aging quickly. Love to hear your thoughts. Og PS2 spider man 2 has aged like a fine wine.

If you like it (as long as it is not a scam) then promote it.
Even tho' we play games to relax-- it is having something to master that makes it fun. The guy may have a small team and 10 bucks is the lowest he can push to make profit. If you want the game to be better and more stuff in it, then he has to make money; no one works for free.

When this was announced I thought it could be like a cross between Spiderman 2 and Jet Set Radio. Its a dhame it never was fleshed out like it could have been but I'm glad that its still something worth a bit of love. It'd have been cool if they put it out for the ten dollar but put it in something where fans were able to craft a more fleshed out game around it. I don't know how practical that would or wouldn't be but I've been enjoying seeing projects like the Simpsons Hit & Run remake or the Avatar The Last Airbender game in Dreams where people have veen able to collaborate and help develop a project.

I don’t know why but this really has the vibes of like…. A better open world version of the Bionic Commando reboot form like 2013.
Like it’s obv Spider-Man but I just can’t get over that for some reason. Probably bc it’s called energy hook

Great video! I have a number of games that are rough around the edges that I still love because they've got heart and charm.
Some that come to mind are Mega Man 3, which is unfinished and has a few notable glitches but has a really satisfying gameplay loop. The other is Sonic Heroes. I've heard every complaint about the game and agree with nearly all of them, but I love how it feels to get all teammates to level 3 and tear through the stages and enemies at high speeds to that kickass soundtrack.

This game looks really cool but if it added a story mode and different things to do aside from swinging it could be a genuine banger. I wonder if a sequel will be made?

Spiderman 2 is the only spiderman game I've played and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. I've heard that the insomniac spiderman games are on a similar level in terms of web swinging, but I don't actually know if that's true or not. If you have played those games I'd love to hear your thoughts on them, considering your perspective is closer to my own on Spiderman games.

I hate to be the "yes-man" who just says, "Yeah, I agree with all of this!" But I just skimmed over a few Steam reviews of this game, and whether the players recommended the game or not, every single player had much the same opinion: The core mechanic of grappling and flying is fun. The mechanics show potential for a game based on this to be truly amazing. However, it's lacking in just about everything else.
In my personal opinion, I can see why it's hard to recommend this game for $10 USD (about $12 CAN for me); the game looks cool, but feels more like a demo than a fully realized game. This is the kind of game I might try out if it went for a 50% discount. Or, I might buy it for full price if the creator announced that he needed funding, because he's making a sequel, developed by a larger team with more specialized expertise.
Jamie Fristrom is clearly good at making game mechanics; it would be great if he had people who were experts in level design, scenario planning, animation, etc., and if he had a composer and visual artist who could come up with a simple, distinctive art style to set the game's tone. (Maybe this would look cool with cel-shaded graphics like Wind Waker? And a soundtrack kind of like Mirror's Edge?)
And maybe this is just me grumbling about what can never be, but... in the past, I wrote a series of stories, more "future fantasy" than "sci-fi." Some were short stories, a couple of them were novella-length, and a few were even novel-length, but I never submitted any them for publishing. For one, I wasn't quite happy with them as they were; I kept wanting to edit things, before I finalized a lot of stuff. For another thing, I eventually thought to myself, "Maybe this kind of story is not best told through written words alone. Maybe what I've written... are actually dialogue and plots for video games. Hmm. I should try to put this into a game someday." Well... a few of the main characters in those stories happen to be covert operatives who avoid detection using parkour, and at least two of those characters used a grapple, much like you see in this game.
...Yeah. Yeah, I have to say, I think a game like this could be excellent with a good story. And I would have loved to offer to write one. It's too bad this game is six years old, and the developer(s) probably moved onto other things by now. Oh, well.
Anyway, it's cool to see this proof of concept today. Good review, Yungtown; I like these kinds of videos.
