@Verycoolgun no it isn’t. Spidey is a superhero icon and was basically destined to have games(both good and bad) about him. Don’t let nostalgia blind you. If it wasn’t him it’d be someone else as most of the time any idea at any given time is more than likely shared by at least 2 people

The first Spider-Man game I played was Spider-Man 3 and never thought a Spider-Man game would ever get better but wow Marvel Spider-Man is awesome. I don’t like what they did to Peter Parker’s face in the remastered. I hope Insomniac brings back the original for Spider-Man 2.

There's also a kid drawing of him and balloons in one of the backpack collectibles. And spidey says something about getting the kids balloons back when you click on the picture.
Honestly...the 2004 game looks pretty impressive for the hardware of the time. The new one obviously blows it away (especially so with Remastered on the PC), but it's amazing how similar the mechanics are.
I just wish the OG had a PC port.... although with the recent PC port cash-grabs and the hobbyists making PC ports of Jak and Daxter and those type of games: it's only a matter of time.
His daughter playing Spiderman while the guy pours his heart out about how he has now someone to play his games and how he's proud of his accomplishments has something that is so heartwarming to me. Spiderman is dope, he always find a way of directing me to wholesome stuff
I always hated how in the older Spiderman Games, the webs just went up. You didn’t have to be near a building,, they just sort of stuck to the sky. I really appreciate the effort he took into making sure Spiderman 2 got that right. It really paved the way for the great Spiderman games we get today.
Or unknowingly funding your favorite RUclipsr's ad agency, thinking you're helping start up a news network that never came. Philip DeFranco's a scam! Can't believe he got away with it by sweeping it under the rug.
That's what paying for something does. When you pay a small pizza shop it can open up new avenues for them to do new stuff like bring in more chefs or open new stores or get better ingredients as well as compensate the person for that effort.
@@TheSpacecraftX Paying a small pizza shop _for their pizza_ and them eventually opening up new branches is NOT the same as donating to your favorite RUclipsr because they need funding to start a news network -- which they end up not starting at all, just dangling the idea in front of you, as they secretly use your money to start an ad agency instead but then eventually slipping up in one of your videos that that's where the money, in fact, went, then get backlash over it so you backpedal and claim you didn't use that money at all to start the ad agency, you only misspoke due to stress, etc. Completely different things. In one instance, you already got your pizza; in the other, you never got that news network at all.
I thought it was really wholesome when he said his friends and people he knew never had time to play his games he made but now he has a daughter, he can make games for them to play, it's really sweet.

Game developers don't get enough love for the happiness they bring to all our childhoods. Jamie, even tho I don't play games as much as I used to, I want to thank you for the work you did from behind the scenes that truly enriched my younger years in a way only a developer could, putting in those countless hours programming and getting little to no love for it (besides the paycheck). Thank you for agreeing to do this video, since now so many of us have the opportunity to look at you (even if on a screen), who did the grinding so we could enjoy that immersive swinging, and say that we appreciate you more than we ever got to let you know back in the day.
Yea and then at the end you can tell he was like "Honey you don't know how to play, noq let your old man show you" and forcibly takes the controller lmao
Playing Spider-man 2 was THE most immersive game for me from that era, I remember trying to show my dad being all excited thinking "DAD YOU WON'T BELIEVE HOW MUCH THIS MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE SPIDER MAN". I miss those days
No bs, this style of interview is the absolute best to watch. There's no layer of overly-sanitized laboratory atmosphere that a lot of interviews have, but it also doesn't look amateurish either. I don't exactly know how to explain it, but this style of video is really easy to watch and stay tuned in to. You've got the chillest vibe of all the interviewers I've seen.
There's no stopping it -- someday, some generation, they will develop a Spider-Man game where you can go into any building in NYC. Just be swinging around, then take a horizontal arc outward, and slam straight into a window and bust through into the office. Technology marches on, and it will happen someday. And EVEN THEN... they will be paying honor to Spider-Man 2.
Imagine 100 or 200 year from now we can like use a head gear to go to a virtual world which allow us to experience the game like its real. Like ready player one
I love how his kid came in and just started playing it herself. He didn't own a PS4 so she was definitely playing the PS4 he brought, and it most likely was Spiderman. This also proves you're never too old to play games.
"I finally made a videogame for an audiance that I´m connected to." - what a lucky dude. I am serious, be it about videogames or whatever other things,.. everyone on this planet should make this his/her personal credo. The world would be a better place.
That was great and I really relate to his sentiment at the end. As a 45 year old who still plays games, all my friends have aged out of them but getting to play games now with my kids is a whole new level of amazing.
Damn, I wonder how he feels knowing people still consider Spider-Man 2 the definitive Spider-Man game? I bet he's stoked people still love his work. What a legend.
@@1blackone He mentioned that he knows people say Spider-Man 2 is great, but he never completely said how he felt about the legacy of "Spider-Man 2 is the best". So yeah he kinda answered it, but I really want to see him toot his own horn about how awesome the game is lol.
People still consider Spider-Man 2 the definitive Spider-Man game? I feel like Insomniac’s Spider-Man is a much more complete game and, in my opinion, it’s now the definitive Spider-Man game.
It's strange how much nostalgia has an effect on you... I swear Spider man 2 looked just as good as this spider man when i was younger... looking back its aged so much
Its not really nostalgia, its the fact that back then the bar for graphics was much lower, so at the time it DID look amazing compared to everything else that was out at the time.
PeeJay Torres Spider-Man 2 absolutely did not look good compared to other games at the time. It came out the same year as Half-Life 2, Halo 2, Far Cry. Those games all looked good. Spider-Man 2 always looked pretty dismal. But it didn’t sell for its graphics, it sold because it felt good to play. And because it felt good to play, we ignored how sparse and gray it looked.
Really cool how he makes Roblox games, people might look down on it but if we're being honest, Roblox is simple, extremely kid friendly, and accessible, so him making games for his kids are pretty much the equivalent of a father building a treehouse for his kids.
People who make games on Roblox can earn millions from games using their DevEx programme, so it is an extremely good outlet and income source for hobbyists
Spider-Man 2 was one of my all-time favorite games when I was younger and I’d spend hours just swinging around and doing random street missions. I hope this guy knows how many people he has brought joy to with his idea, even to this day. Thanks for doing this video!
I find it really touching that he makes roblox games for his kid.Thats what a good father would do if he didn’t know what to turn to if he couldn’t catch another audience.Thats just really adorable
Ahmad Bitar That's pretty stupid. I doubt he's making inappropriate content for his own kid and you can turn chat off, so what's she gonna see that's inappropriate? This is a dumb approach anyway, would you deny your kid access to the internet because it's full of inappropriate content? No, you teach them how to use it safely and monitor their use of it.
@@ahmadbitar3819 Relax buddy. Roblox may be filled with inappropriate content but you know what? When I was a kid me and my dad would watch R rated movies from the 80s and those were some of the best memories I had growing up. @@dimkacracker IDK about activision as a whole but as far as Blizzard goes, they don't release unfinished games to the public. They have some of the most polished, balanced games I've ever seen on release.
Devs have never told management when a game was ready. They were given a deadline, either loose or very tight and then they had to do it. If they failed to get it done in time they either were not paid (leading to the developers going through periods of time without earning actual money) or thedeveloper just went "fuck it" and released it unfinished. The industry has not changed AT ALL. What changed was the attitude toward finishing the game, because now they don't feel the pressure to have the game done and quality checked before release. They are fine with releasing an untested or unfinished game and then fixing it in post-release patched. They couldn't do this in the past (on consoles at least).
My brother just sent me this video and for someone who used to play Spider-Man 2 a lot as a kid, this video got me all nostalgic and a little teary-eyed with how wholesome it was. Thanks for giving Jamie the chance to see how his work impacted Insomniac's take on Spider-Man and allow them to build upon the work he started many years ago.
This guy paved the way for the new game. He truly understood the wonder of swinging across the skyline of new york and managed to perfectly capture it in a way that anyone could feel it too. Thats what made that old Spider Man 2 game so good. Even if the story wasn't anything special, you didn't care, because the gameplay was so much fun. You could go for hours just swinging around and beating up random thugs. And the guys of this new Spider-Man game had the vision to follow in his footsteps and improve on everything the old game lacked, that is the reason this 2018 game did so well.
Tell Jamie he needs to apply for a job at Insomniac for a game designer position for the next Spider-Man game Insomniac puts out, so he can once again work on a "Spider-Man 2" and possibly make the swinging way better than it already is. The person who is currently making the swinging mechanics combined with the skill of Jamie could make the best swinging in any Spider-Man game to date.
He really needs to come aboard. The best part of spiderman 2's swinging that wasn't in the ps4 game was the physics and sound design which allowed for players with higher skill to perform better. With ps4 there's this safety net that prevents you from having true freedom
@@firesnakex8 Exactly, it looks very floaty. Seems like they didn't really want to challenge the players like spider-man 2 did. Take a look at the swing at 6:53 - spidey just magically floats upward from a low jump into a swing. In spider-man 2, you would have face-planted into the ground. There are also many instances in other videos of the web line magically getting shorter to prevent you from hitting the ground
True! PS4 web swinging is way too automated with almost no physics in comparison to the 2004 one. I own them both and I’m reasoning and analysing in a honest neutral way. He should design the web swinging
I haven't got a chance to play SM2 but I sure did play the Ultimate SM which has the same mechanics and physics, or nearly the same. And man, I'm sure 100% that he was responsible for the way that game was done and it was done greatly. This guy made my childhood colourful. We just simply can't appreciate his work enough because of how big his impact is.
I love ultimate (especially how clean the Web zipping feels). SM2 uses momentum better l especially how you can use charged jumps to gain so much speed and distance
Damn, first of all, your initiative is legendary. You just straight up went and searched the dude out and interviewed him in his house. That alone takes hilarious amounts of balls. Secondly, THANK YOU. This man is responsible for god only knows how many hours spent just dangling about in one of my all-time favorite games growing up. You're a trooper sir.
Waking up on Saturday mornings and playing this game along with other master pieces like battlefront 2, batman vengeance, marvel ultimate alliance, ratchet & clank. Priceless.
This is awesome! The animations for the Swinging in SM2 haven't really aged too well, but the core mechanics obviously shine through. It's funny because when you first start playing the PS4 game, the amount of moves you can do is overwhelming: it took me ages to intuitively web zip to points to speed up. But by the end you're doing Boosts on the end of your swings and point launching off of every water tower in sight.
The footage show from Spider-man 2 shows a low swing level, when you unlock the highest it is amazingly satisfying to swing and much faster than Spider-man PS4! :D But sure, the animation looks kinda old. :)
@@loketkarloff1965 Huh, I had no idea! All the footage I've seen has only ever been that really short web thing where you fly up from the bottom of the arc like you've got rocket boosters on, haha!

And later he takes the controller wanting to play some more...So cute. I wish my parents play video games but hey! It's okay because I'm gonna be that type of parent in the future! 😁👍❤

I just gotta say, Nick. This video of yours is the main reason why I finally bought a PS4 Pro. I first watched this in 2018 and then I got to play Spider-Man in a Playstation Road Event near me. I was so entranced by the swinging because it really reminded me of my childhood playing Spider-Man 2 in PJs with friends. I just kept coming back to your video over and over again for weeks until I finally gave in and saved up for it. It's the very first time in a long time that I have wanted something so bad. I haven't watched this video since and I gotta say the video is still so good. I have clocked hundreds of hours with my PS4 Pro ever since. I have enjoyed a lot of your videos, but this one is just so special.
@Kel Rowland what problem? Do you think hes being racist? You know "swagger" isnt a bad thing. Its kinda a good thing to call someone, though it would be cringy to call someone swag, it really just means their cool.
There is something really sad about this video. This dude is responsible for creating one of the most impeccable senses of locomotion ever in a game, and with Spider-Man 2, he perfected the Raimi-esque ballet of swinging through a sprawling. I was sort of hoping that he would be a tad more upbeat, but it really does come across like's sort of...given up. Everytime he says, "all those years ago" and what-not in mentioning his own game, his sense of the passage of time seems colored by melancholy. Jamie needs to keep his chin up because I absolutely adored Spider-Man 2. He made an absolutely compelling superhero game and deserves way more recognition for his contributions to the genre and style of gameplay.
Does No one else notice the early swing animations. You start swnging before your web shoots out. Spider man can levitate? The test footage looked better. Is nobody seeing this?!
I think you're looking way too hard into it...looking at his Twitter he still has things he works on himself, it's not like Spiderman 2 was the peak of his life. Sure he's proud of it but he still has other experiences in life to go through.
I'd never heard of him, and I never played Spider Man 2, though I LOVE Spider Man 2018. Even so, I was really moved by this. Must feel good to see his legacy.
Taking the time to go and share with one of the developers that shaped how we will always want Spider man games to be is incredible! I love how you didnt wait for anyone like Gameinformer or IGN or Insomniac to bring it to him, you brought your own ps4 to him all by yourself. Your attitude towards this video is just so amazing and I really appreciate the time you took to put together this video!

zhaquiri this is the reason why I give people food, not money

Back when the devs TOLD management when a game was ready...now management tells devs when it’s ready...sad

gtaiv1000 *cough* *cough* film industry

Your attitude towards this video is just so amazing and I really appreciate the time you took to put together this video!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Watching this after 2023 Spiderman 2, I love how much content is out there on RUclips after playing these games. Great video!
