  • Mercury Lynx L Station Wagon 5 Door Hatchback 85 1.9L Ford Escort Test Drive Walk Around Video www.1OwnerCarGuy.com This is a very nice 1985 Mercury Lynx L Station Wagon that is just as clean as can be. I believe it is a 1 Owner and it only has 72K Original Miles on it. It has the nice 1.9L engine which is a good motor that runs great and gets really good gas mileage so you can actually afford to drive it. Someone took very good care of this car over the years. The exterior is very nice and the paint has a really nice shine to it. The car looks like it was parked in a garage most of the time. Everything about the car is just as nice as it gets. The body is straight as can be on this car and all the trim and moldings are clean and dry. The interior is the most impressive thing on this car. The seats are as nice as it gets and none of them really look like they were sat in much. The carpets are in the same great condition. From the headliner to door panels and dash the interior is just as nice as can be. The back seat even folds down to give you plenty of room in the back. You will be hard pressed to find a cleaner car like this. Dont' miss out.

    From Wikipedia:
The Mercury Lynx was a compact car produced by the Ford Motor Company for its Mercury division from 1981 to 1987. It was a rebadged version of the Ford Escort. In 1987, the Lynx was dropped after slumping sales (although at one point, it was Mercury's best-selling car). In 1988, Mercury launched the Tracer as the Lynx's replacement. The Tracer was based on the Mazda 323, was built in Mexico and Japan (depending on model), and shared nothing with the Lynx.

I owned a reliable green 1982 Ford Escort L wagon with a white vinyl interior. It had a 4 speed that I loved shifting because of the neat exhaust sound it had. I loved the car so much, I bought a black 1986 Escort L hatchback with tan cloth. A few days after I traded the 1986 in for a 1991 Escort, the salesman at the Ford dealership stated that my trade-in was the hottest car on the lot. I had added a rear window louver, higher wide black body side moldings (which transformed the look of the car for the better), an AM/FM cassette radio, upgraded speakers using the existing tan speaker covers, chrome trim rings, and legal window tint on the side windows. The mileage was in the low 30,000 mile range, which didn't hurt either.

I was wonderin about the Cougar steering wheel too!
This one brings back memories. You just don't see these wagons anymore, let alone a Lynx in this good of shape! My mom had the Escort version of this brand new back in 88. My brother and I both learned how to drive and took our road tests in it. I'm surprised the clutch never had to be replaced. Sure it wasn't a hot rod but the reliability couldn't be beat. At just about 200,000mi the head gasket blew and it got junked. It did serve well.

My mom had an '87 Escort wagon GL from new until about '95 ish or so. It was a GL which means it had high dollar options like cruise control, a roof rack, and I believe a center armrest. Haha..killer options for an '80s economy car. Ran great but by no means any power especially with the A/C on. I think it got sold and rusted out around the strut towers and got junked.

My parents had the Escort version of this, except in baby blue. Same interior but in blue. Had a blue pin stripe even. You can tell these are 85.5's because they don't have the third stop light in the tailgate. It was reliable and took us (me, my dad, my mom, and my infant brother) on our first family road trip from Wichita Kansas to Santa Fe New Mexico. One time ants got in the air conditioner and blew all over my Mom when she used it. Fun times.

Technically, this is a "1985-1/2" model owing to both the engine size and the improved sheetmetal. 1985MY units which were made in the fall 1984 (9/84-12/84) period still used the older-style sheetmetal and the 1.6L engine.

I had a 1983 Mercury Lynx LTS 5 door hatchback, with the 5 speed and the high output motor. It was a blast to drive! So good on gas and you could move a house in that hatchback. Unfortunately, some guy crossed over into my lane one night and ran the Lynx into a curb, witch was a death knell for the front wheel drive. Had to total it. It was a sad day for me.

By the way, the "L" stands for luxury, which was one notch above the base model...the L had chrome on the grille. I also agree the interior shots are best at the house. :) cheers, Nathan!

No problem. Just some pointless information I retained from reading brochures my dad would give me when he was working for Ford. The 85 is a special model as a few months later they introduced a 85 1/2 model with the 3rd brake light to comply with the new law in 86. Some 85 models were even retrofitted with that 3rd brake light.

the L badging is reminiscent of Ford Europe's trim spec monikers at that time in the 70's and 80's. No additional badge at all, ie Mercury Lynx in this case would have been the bare-bones model with no a/c, manual gearbox, and probably no tachometer on the dash etc. L trim added some more creature comforts like a/c, automatic tranny, tacho, and probably nicer fabric on the seats among others. Then there was GL with more equipment yet, followed by the top spec GLX... known as Ghia in Europe

Some European cars of this era had chimes if you left the headlights on. The Volvos had the same seat belt warning from 75 in Europe as did in the US. It also had a buzzer if you left your headlights on. Interestingly it's silent if you both leave the key in the ignition and the headlights on. The Euro Mercedes 124 is the same. But if you take your keys it starts to make noise. My 09 W211 Mercedes also is silent if you leave your keys, but dings as a US car if you leve your lights on.

My first car was an '84 gs wagon. I've driven and owned other cars but, I would love to drive around another mercury lynx gs wagon as a day to day driver.
Edit: i see drivers dissin the lynx wagon... They will pay... Someday someway.

With good reason. Had 85 1/2 big disappointment. Slow, unreliable, rust prone, ill equipped, mediocre build quality (the plastic grill could be moved back and forth), noisy . No standard passenger side mirror, rear wiper, cruise. No wonder by then, Civics and Corollas led to its eventual demise. Mercury tried with the Tracer, by then too little too late.

Not a fan of these Escort/Lynx cars but great job finding a Lynx in good shape such as this one. I actually like the pinstripe.
    - I prefer the interior in the shade. (Even though I had no problem with the interior in the day time.)
    - LOL! @ The "buttholes" in the test drive.
    - Does Ford think the LYNX & COUGAR cats look identical?

Reason why they're cutting you off its cause they see a old station wagon and they think it's too slow (In reality people got no passion) they gotta hurry in their own little world. I also get lots of cars passing me cause I own a 1985 Nissan Sentra (69 HP) slowest car in town. Never race it and abuse just slow and takes time to get up to speed I got passion with my classic, maintenance and care ❤
